Amazing Meals ,Joseph cooks from the heart his food has wonderful spices (flavour) well balanced and can add a kick (spicy) if requested. He was very accommodating when my wife and 2 year old ate here gave my little one some rice and veggies on the house. It is a mom and pop shop that has many regulars that come and eat or take out. While I was not blown away by the food, It was pretty decent in flavor and spice. The service is friendly, even though they did forget that part of my order was a Lassi which they never brought out to the table. The naans rock . soft fluffy and delicious. The rice was cooked to perfection. We ordered the samosa which came with two chutneys and some chole. Delicious. The butter chicken was the most recommended item, so we went for that, but the sauce - which is the essence of any butter chicken seemed like a tailored down to suit non ethnic taste buds. while it was not bad, It did not come close to any good one that I am used to. our next item on the menu was the chole. These chole are great. amazing taste and rich buttery flavor BUT the chole that we eat with rice or bhature are differently spiced than the ones we eat with samosa. So the chole that they serve with samosa is the chole they served as an entree. Not impressed. Tips:- It is a small place. Absolutely my all time favorite when I crave Indian food. Parveen and Joe are both really friendly (tho I haven't seen Parveen for months, hope she's alright.) I have practically ordered everthing from the entre section of the menu, and not one I didn't love. Also the naan.....so good! A fair warning tho, Joe starts cooking after food's ordered, so a 15-20+ (maybe even 30) min of wait is to be expected, but still totally worth it. Now especially with Parveen not being around, things can get a little hectic with Joe trying to take care of things both inside and outside of the kitchen. Sometimes their son comes and help out, but Parveen is still the best. What a cute restaurant. We sat in the same spot as Sean Burke and I only know this because there's a picture of him eating here right above our table. Otherwise, I know nada about hockey...anyway back to Mirchi...It's like walking into someone's kitchen...nothing fancy, just simple home cooked food. Most of the patrons were regulars because the owner seemed to know everyone. One lady even got up to help him clean up, pour water, set the tables and ring up the cash register since the owner was by himself. How many restauranteurs do you know have that kind of relationship with their patrons where the customer truly supports the small business owner!? As for the food, I enjoyed the butter chicken very much. We also ordered the daal and chicken biryani. The latter two were a bit on the spicier side but I just put a huge dollop of yogurt on top and they both went down nicely with a firey kick afterwards. I left feeling like I ate too much minus the nasty heart burn I usually get after eating at other Indian places. Chef Joseph really gives your palate a treat with his cooking. The chef prepares his dishes to order (with some very fluffy naan also baked to order). Some people may think his curries are a little oily (I like it so I don't mind - you could also spoon some of it off if you'd like) but they are packed with flavour. If you are not so good with spicy, maybe ask the chef to make it mild or even very mild. His classic chicken korma never disappoints. The chicken is tender and falls apart easily while the gravy is essentially the nectar of Gods. Dip some naan into that wondrous gravy and just feel the comfort sitting in your mouth. Review based on a dinner take-out order for two. Was curious how the only Indian place in the 'Pole would fare - pretty well, as it turns out. We had the aloo gobi (cauliflower + potato curry) and butter chicken. Both were fresh and fragrant with lots of subtle flavors. Tasty basmati rice as well. This place is why I love Yelp. On foot, looking for a quality lunch in a cool neighbourhood and this place pops up top of the pile. I love good Indian food and this small family place delivers. For around $10 amazing naan and butter chicken served by the chef. Don't come for fast food ( I was in and out in under 30mins) but do come for the flavours. Atmosphere is fine - they show they care with linen table cloths - but fall short of a modern atmosphere. No matter - the food more than makes up for it. Joseph is an amazing cook! Firstly, he is a hard worker. Very friendly. My husband and I had a pleasant conversation with him. We respect the fact that he does it all by himself, so patiently, while young people like us find it hard to be willing to work a little more than our paycheque hours. Let's talk about his food now. We had Chicken Boti kabob, Goat masala, chicken pakora and fish masala. All of it tasted so good! The Boti Kabob was so good, we ordered some to go.m. I never really liked naan (Yes. I have friends who are born in northern part of the Philippines and they do not like hot and spicy foods like the southern part of the Philippines. Some people from Canada do not like Indian or hot and spicy food. I love Malaysian and Thai food. They are like the Southern Philippines food. 3 stars for the food, 5 stars for the service; which evens out to 4 stars. We had a meeting near the Vancouver airport and were craving Indian food for lunch. The closest place we found with good ratings was Mirchi, so off we went. Once inside, we were blown over by amazing scents wafting about, the cheery yellow walls and the sight of several pots simmering away on the big stove. We then noticed that there was only one man handling everything - cooking, patrons, the whole shebang. We sat and were promptly served fresh water. The lunch menu was short (about seven items) but covered all the important bases. I ordered the butter chicken (medium) and the hubs went for the chicken curry (mild). We had a chance to speak with the owner, and as it turns out, he previously owned a great kabob place right down the street from our home in Seattle! Very cool coincidence. Lunch was served and the owner kindly included a bit of yogurt for the hubs so he could cool his mouth in case the curry was too spicy. His curry had a great taste and the base roux flavor shone through. My butter chicken was very good as well, loved the flavor of the chicken but the sauce seemed to separate out a bit, it didn't hold together as most butter chicken sauces do. Mirchi serves great food, but, to put it bluntly, is one of the worst managed restaurants I have ever seen. I have easily eaten Mirchi's food 10 times over the past 3 years. I love the food, but I am so exasperated by the experience that I have given up and no longer go there. The food is cooked with care - light Indian style food with a Pakistani flair. The sauces are lighter than typical S. Indian cuisine and wonderfully pungent. The portions are not large for the price, but the food is truly delicious and worth the money. The problem with Mirchi is systemic. From what I can tell, is the entire food map preparation process flows through one very talented elderly gentlemen. The daughters and family takes orders and serve the customers. However, the entire process seems to bottleneck through that one owner/cook. A times, we have gone in to the restaurant, ordered, and then sat for an hour as they filled a half dozen take out orders. We have gone in, ordered, then added another dish to our order which came out 45 minutes after the first set of dishes. We have ordered take out and they made the order wrong. Many times. The crowning moment was when we ordered take out, arrived at the restaurant, only to find THEY HAD GIVEN OUR ORDER TO SOMEONE ELSE. It took them an hour to remake the food and then they got the order wrong. I appreciate that they want to run a family business. However, they desperately need someone, trained in modern restaurant management, to come in and teach them how to run the business. read more

I heard about this place from a friend and had to check it out cause I really wanted some Indian food. It's kind of tiny but I guess you could call it cozy? Humble? Welcoming? We ordered the Karahi Chicken and and Karahi Lamb which came with some salad, rice and naan. It was prepared pretty well and I was surprised by the mango sauce on the salad. Though I will say this, if you want spicy to go with your curry, ask for spicy. Cause if you ask for "medium" it's not particularly spicy at all. Don't be a coward and eat it hot. We waited for a long time before we were given the menu (which was expected as the reviews say). But the waitress was rushing like crazy. Relied on her memory for the customer's order. When the food was served, the naan and aloo gobi were fine, but it was the WORST butter chicken I've ever had! Too bitter and too salty. Not even creamy. It doesn't taste like butter chicken, looks like she forgot my order, and was given something else, and she forgot to serve the drink that I ordered :( read more

Ordered take out. Chicken pikora, Beef curry and tandori chicken. After ordering over the phone I read some of these reviews and worried whether or not the negative ones were accurate. Unfortunately they were. For 40$ I got 6 cubed pieces of chicken each the size of what you would expect on a skewer, a beef curry so watered down there was no flavor and was primarily oil with 3 pieces of beef....That's right...3. I could not belive it, I called right away to explain that either there was a mistake or felt I had been ripped off. The curry was not edible nor worthy of being served to a customer, 3 pieces of beef soaked in flavoured oil. Instead of understanding my concern the lady on the phone argued saying that that was the correct portion size. I will NEVER order food here again and would never recommend. 7 minutes away drive would be Gingerie or Tandori Kona just over the bridge. Both great food and worthy of a 40$ meal for two. Chicken Pakoda - right spices, perfectly fried - couldn't have been better! The kebabs - the best I have eaten in a very long time - the last being in New Delhi. We used their new online service. From my computer I ordered a number of dishes. The system said ready in 25m for pickup. I showed up in 25m and the last item came off the grill. All the food was good, great flavours just the right amount of heat. My complaint were the veggie pakoras, my fault, they are very good and more in the style of indian tempura, i.e. one vegetable rather than a cluster but you have to eat them fresh. They put them in the bag so they would not get soggy but when will I learn not to get deep fried items for take out. Having the online system is now dangerous as it makes it easy to order. read more

This was my first visit and I ordered up my staple Saag Paneer as sort of a test. The sign beside my table said something about good fresh food taking time so please be patient. I enjoyed the sunny spot I'd found, relished in the spicy smells emanating from the kitchen and lost myself in the day's news from one of the papers they had at the door. I'd ordered a side of naan but it came with really delicious basmati rice as well. The Saag Paneer was perfect, probably top of my list in Vancouver now. Service was warm and welcoming. In my opinion Mirchi is the best Indian Restaurant in Vancouver. My wife and I have become big fans of Mirchi. We go there at least once a month but usually more frequently than that. The food is simply too delicious, I always end up eating more than I intend to. We have tried many Indian restaurants in Vancouver including Vij's. Mirchi is certainly the best. Most Indian Restaurants in downtown are tolerable at best. Vij's is good as a fusion Indian restaurant but for real taste of India, none beats Mirchi. I feel fortunate that I found Mirchi and got to meet the most amiable hosts ever. Everything is cooked fresh. The food is not just tasty but is served elegantly decorated with salad and dressing, and at very reasonable prices. I only wish they were located in downtown so that I could go there more easily and often. read more

Arrived at this restaurant 730pm with literally no other patron eating and the place is a little run down, like we were physically in India. skeptical about it but we sat down anyway bc of its good reviews. Asked the waitress for recommendations. By the way she described the dishes--"our spices are more authentic than most Indian restaurant around town" (she meant the mild spice here could be quite spicy for most ppl) gave us some hope. And the dishes have not disappointed us. Each of them are awesomely good! My favorite is the tandoori masala tikka. The mango lassi is quite sweet , so u can ask for half sweet. Mirchi's chef Joe is very respectful and experienced. He makes food after you order so have patience to wait 15-20 mins, but it is totally worth the wait! We Ordered Mix Veg curry, it comes with Rice and Salad. The food was steaming hot and it taste nothing like it was made in a restaurant, it was home cooked food. Being a desi, I try my best to stay away from south Asian restaurants. However, Mirchi definitely is worth making an exception for. Each dish we ordered was so flavorful, fresh and not overly spiced...we all enjoyed the experience very much so. Expect to wait for the food as the owner is the cook, the server, everything all in one we were told.
