Hidden gem in Hastings! Their lunch special is soooo worth the price. You can pick any two non-meat curry dishes and one vegetarian curry dish. It comes with naan, rice, and a gulab jamun. My parents are extremely picky and this is one place they request to go to regularly. I've pretty much tried everything on the menu and my favourites are the lamb korma (cashew base and a bit creamy), palak paneer which is a basic spinach base dish with cheese, and any of the chicken dishes really. They have a specialty Mango Chicken which is really nice and subtle as well. I am fairly good at handling spice, but I tend to order mild or medium here since there is already a base level of spice. Highly recommend this place to satisfy your Indian food fix!

Self isolating and craving spicy, savoury Chana Bhatura. I was told by a family friend that The Indian Chef restaurant is known for this dish. And that proved to be correct! The fluffy, chewy, Bhatura soaked up the thick, spicy, savoury, packed with flavour Chana gravy. The chickpeas weren't mushy, which lead me to believe, the chef did not use canned nor overcook them. Definite bonus! The plate was accompanied with raita and achar. The raita tasted like it was made in small batches. Perfection! No watered down raita here!! I would have given full 5 stars but my food was warm but, that's what you get when you order from a food delivery service.

BEST of the BEST !! This restaurant is literally the best Indian restaurant I have ever been to. I went for the first time one month ago, and I have been going back at least once a week this then. The food is absolutely delicious! PERFECT! My Indian friend who just moved to Canada keeps telling me the food is at least as good as what you would enjoy in India, if not more. The value is very great, so affordable. The staff is fantastic, the lady is so friendly, helpful and professional. The room itself is very clean, nice and even quite fancy. I really love the atmosphere of this place. Anyway, I have been there 5 times already, had the same food sometimes (very consistant) and try some other items (all great) !! I can't praise this place enough! Please if you are craving tasty food, give this restaurant a try, you won't regret it. I especially loved their naans, the chilli paneer and Malai Kofta. PS : If you can't handle spice too much, like me, definitely make sure to ask for "mild". Thank You Indian Chef's Cuisine !! see you soon !!

Doordashed Chilli Paneer but found a chicken piece in it. Disaster for a vegetarian! Please work on the quality of the food.

Butter chicken veggie pakora and naan

Super yum! Butter chicken and veggie pakora and garlic naan. Great prices and value. Fresh and ready in 15 mins. Will be back.

Amazing dining space, and even better food. Was seriously blown away by this place and am definitely coming back to try as much as I can.

It looked like a small place from the outside but they cater to bigger groups as well - we were a group of 10 that went there on a Sunday night. The restaurant wasn't too crowded. Their food was incredible! I only got one of their cocktails - the mithai wala which came with rose petals and a vodka base. It was delicious, I would recommend! For food, we got their achari chicken from their tandoor menu. It was really good, we went for a medium spice level for it but I think we could have done hot. The flavours were really good and chicken was cooked very well! We also got their kathal tikka (which is basically jackfruit), it's so hard to find that in Vancouver but Hariyali did an incredible job! Everyone on the table were a big fan of it! Their menu is pretty big and we didn't get a lot of their items but I will definitely come back to try more things. It is also pretty affordable! Would recommend a visit!

Not the most amazing Indian food I've tasted, but overall fairly tasty. I prefer South Indian offerings, but... Had a lamb thali and my wife had a veg thali. Only two dishes on the thali plate, where I would normally expect a couple more. The vegetable salad was a definite weak point, as it was just a few scraps of inexplicably blanched peppers and cucumber. Ample servings of the mains though. Price point was a little higher than I would have thought for a lunch special.

Dahi Puri was great. As server's advised, it is better to have them immediately, otherwise shell texture would be soggy. It was perfectly crispy, yogurt filling was paired so well, one of the best item of the dinner. Butter chicken was very mild as requested. It had rich buttery flavor and delicious. Biryani was so delicious, too! Large chicken pieces were a nice surprise and flavor was very strong, it was very good to have rice with yogurt as server's advice. it balanced the spice. Naan was very decent, nicely chewy and soft texture. Baigan Bharta had very spicy and bold flavor. If you like spicy item, you will love this. Mashed eggplant and tomato combination was good. It was good to have it with Naan. Overall, It was a great experience. Overall I enjoyed the vibes at this place and would visit again for nice decor and excellent service. I would mention that the ladies bathroom was not up to par that day. The bathroom door was prompted wide open with a huge humidifier in front of the door. I am guessing it has to be kept running but the size of the appliance made the bathroom felt very cramped and definitely took away the privacy level. Hopefully the situation is rectified and doesn't take away the meal experience at Sula. I haven't been to other Sula locations but this is a convenient location on Commercial Drive with paid street parking available.

Guessing the food is from a not so spicy part of India. The lamb and chicken curries were satisfying though. The one really disappointing thing though was the garlic naan. Not only were the smaller than most places, but I almost couldn't tell it was garlic. It seemed like plain naan with a bit of butter smudged on top. I would avoid this one. The naan also seemed like the store bought variety. Tasted like they came out of a bag. I would skip this item. Get the rice instead.

I made reservations for us for 4pm, so as to take advantage of their Happy Hour. We went earlier today (a Wednesday) and the place was empty at 4pm. I think it fills up later, for dinner. (I still advise making reservations as you never really know if it's going to be busy). Right off the bat, we were blown away by the interior. It is gorgeous! Small, but gorgeous. The murals, the chandeliers, the bar....and omg, the bathrooms. If you visit, you MUST check out the bathrooms. They have the most fabulous sinks I have ever seen. They didn't have a large selection of HH offerings, unfortunately, but what they did have was amazingly good. My friends who were extremely knowledgeable on Indian cuisine ordered for us, and we shared 3 different small plates (tandoori vegetable momos, cochin cauliflower bites, and some sort of delicious fried onions), and 2 desserts (soan paid malai khwaab, and foxtail millet pudding). And just...wow, everything was SO SO good. The three appetizers were so flavorful and the desserts, unlike anything I've ever had before and simply delicious. We also had drinks (but, of course!). One friend had a mango lassi which she loved, one friend had a high ball which she loved, and I had a mango mojito which I loved. (See a pattern? lol). All was great. Our server, Leesa (not sure of spelling) was so incredibly personable and lovely, and a gentleman I gather is the owner came by twice to make sure everything was okay. We felt like VIPs, with all the care and attention we got. Seriously, the folks here could not be nicer. I'm already planning on bringing my two daughters here. I know they'll love this place. Heck, anyone would love this place. My friends and I all plan on returning. Great great place!

We came around 4pm and had a couple of drinks from the regular menu plus the Kerala pepper chicken the momos and the veggie fritters. Again, the food is very good and the prices were reasonable. I will have to come back late night to see if the happy hour issue is rectified at that time as I see the menu is still the exact same as before. ********* Came here after hearing about the recent celebrity visit. First of all, the food is very good the portions are also decent and the prices are reasonable. I would have liked to have come back here for the lunch special as it's walking distance for me, but my visit left a bad taste in my mouth, which I will detail below. The dishes are inventive. There are the usual suspects, but also some that aren't often see at most Indian restaurants in Metro Van. The staff is also very attentive and friendly. The cocktails are pricey, but interesting. The decor is trendy. The bathrooms have an interesting sink feature that I have not seen before. If you're into social media, there's definitely some photo opportunities here. The service is a bit weird as there isn't really a dedicated server for the table. So, basically, we had all sorts of different people taking our drink and food orders, bringing us food, refilling our water and checking in on us. On the plus, it means that you are checked on a lot. On the minus, it is a bit inconsistent because there isn't one single person who knows what is going on with the table, but more a revolving door. For instance, one staff member came and took our drink order, however the wrong drink ended up being made and brought to me by the bartender, even though the drinks had been extensively discussed with the original server. So there's definitely communication issues. My biggest gripe with this restaurant is that we were denied ordering from the happy hour menu by the manager. I did not want to argue about it at the time as the bartender was told in front of us to deny us the happy hour menu, from which we wanted to order some cocktails. At this point, we had already ordered several menu items (in fact so many that the server had advised us we had more than enough food and that we did not need to order an additional dish we were considering) plus full priced cocktails. So it's not like they weren't making money off our table. The reason we were given, which I believe was told to the bartender (to be clear, I do not believe the bartender was at fault, but simply the messenger in this situation), was that the happy hour was only a summer thing. Again, we visually saw the manager instruct the bartender to tell us these things -- they were literally standing in front of our table, less than 5 feet away. This was not only unprofessional, but I found it incredibly dishonest. It was mid-December when we were at the restaurant, 3.5 months after summer had ended. The happy hour menu is literally the first page in the menu book. If a restaurant doesn't want to honour their own happy hour menu, it costs very little to simply reprint the happy hour menu, remove that page completely, or cross it out, if they really want to be cheap. At minimum, they should have honoured the menu for patrons that they gave it to and then rectified the situation for future. For this reason, I cannot recommend this establishment even though the food was very good and I would have otherwise come back and supported this small business.

The lamb curry combo not only consist of the Lamb but also a tandoori chicken drumstick, rice, garlic Naan, roasted potatoes, chana salad, and chutney.
