    Garlic Naan
    Sam K.

Ordered the chicken curry with garlic naan and vegetable samosas. Overall I would say the food was so-so. The chicken curry tasted more like butter chicken in my opinion, but was filled with large pieces of meat with perfectly fluffy basmati rice on the side. The garlic naan was pretty disappointing as it hardly had a garlicky flavor and was fairly stale tasting (or at least definitely not fresh). The veggie samosas weren't as crispy as I like but the chutney they came with a good pairing. Overall the food and the prices were pretty typical but nothing that would set this place apart from other outstanding Indian restaurants I've visited in Austin and elsewhere.

This is our 3rd visit here. Each time has been a wildly different experience. Food ranges from avg to pretty good. Service is always crap. Won't be coming back anymore, but this visit was the first time I've hesitated when considering the tip. The server then stopped me and requested I give my tip as cash. I thought this was a bit presumptuous, why would crap service be entitled to a tip? I only had a few bucks on me, but gladly gave it to him since that's what he wanted. Tl;dr garbage service, decent food, this isn't Mirchi anymore despite their latest marketing to change the name back to Mirchi with "we're back" pamphlets.

I'm being generous with the 3 stars! I'm not sure how I really feel about it. It borders between a 2 and 3 The kabobs are fantastic!!! We enjoyed the mix combo platter of kabobs! The biryani was horrible! Not edible at all! We couldn't eat it! The samosas were good but the chef didn't fry it right. So too oily! The noodles were basic! Location is great but the place is basic! Nothing fancy about the restaurant! Service is basic as they have no reserves! The cashier does the service and helps in kitchen! So it's hard to catch his eyes! Honestly just the grilled items were good or else nothing else taht we tried!

Food was so good it was gone in an instant

The costumer service is amazing, and the food is even better! I had the chicken tikka leg, and had to back and try their chicken boti. Both were so good left with zero leftovers. Love the atmosphere 10/10 would recommend the food is so good.

Been wanting to try this place because I always pass by it and the food definitely hit the spot. I ordered their Garlic Naan, Masala Fries, Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Boti, Mutton Biryani, and Kheer for dessert. My favorite dish here was definitely their Chicken Boti! (Would definitely recommend it). Although I ordered a Chicken Tikka Masala but they actually made a mistake and ended up serving me Butter Chicken. Although they gave us the wrong dish, the Butter Chicken was still pretty solid (Would probably come back and try their Chicken Tikka Masala again. If you live nearby or are just craving some good food I would recommend coming here! The service was also really nice and the owners checked in on our group a couple of times throughout the meal. There was also plenty of parking available in their lot.

Dropped by here when we were craving some Indian food and it was a good choice! We got the kebab platter (the chicken leg was perfection and I'm someone who usually doesn't like them!), mutton biryani (they were generous with the mutton), tava chicken (first time trying it and was different and amazing, roasted bell pepper flavor with chicken) garlic naan and plain naan (that could have used a slab of butter). Safa's was great and provided good service all on his own.

I can't believe I put off going here for so long. It's been on my radar for three months. The menu looked interesting but many items I was unfamiliar with so scaredy cat me didn't go. This week I got brave and went. So glad I did. It's located in a very small strip mall. If you blink, you missed it. I walked in and it was void of other customers (That didn't bother me as I go at weird times.) The man behind the counter brought me to a booth and left me with a menu. A girl showed up a minute later with a glass and carafe of cold water. The man appeared five minutes later with a plate of sliced carrots and cucumbers with seasoning on top. Nice touch. Decided to order the Chicken Goti from the grill section along with a samosa and garlic naan. While waiting for my food I looked around. This is a no frills restaurant. I saw one man through the open window into the kitchen cooking away. There was another gentleman in the back corner booth on his phone the entire time. Later an older gentleman came in who I'm guessing is the owner and father for everyone in there. A family run place. My samosa arrives and it was hot. I cut it in half to let the steam escape. I couldn't wait anymore so I took my first bite. Still hot in both temperature and spice. Second bite was dipped in the tamarind sauce to cool it down. It was so good. I alternated between the sliced vegetables and the hot samosa. The chicken Goti was presented on a sizzling iron skillet. The aroma was intoxicating. Soon after the garlic naan was served. I broke my chicken into small pieces as the cubes were an inch big. The first taste was satisfying, spicy but not overwhelming hot, moist and tender. It was served with an avocado? yogurt sauce. I tried eating it plain and with the different sauces, all good. The naan was huge. Normally I get half the amount. Took half home and it reheated nicely. Great service, friendly people, reasonable pricing, and terrific food. Use your GPS and find this place.

Garlic Naan, veggie samosa, sang paneer, chicken tikka, chicken tikka marsala. Wow great flavor.

Atmosphere: Quiet, comfortable, and more "family dinner" than flashy date-night. It's a simple dining room, but it's clean and relaxed--easy to actually talk without yelling over music. The kind of place where you can tell regulars come in a lot. Food: This is what you come for. I went the kabob route--juicy, charred in the right spots, and seasoned so you actually taste the meat (not just smoke). Rice was fluffy and came out hot, and the grilled tomato/veggies were a perfect add-on. Also grabbed a yogurt-based side (maast style) and it was super refreshing between bites--especially if you're doing anything spicy or super savory. If you've never had Persian food, this is a solid entry point: it's flavorful without being intimidating, and everything feels filling without being heavy. Service: Friendly and patient--no rushing, no weird attitude, just genuinely helpful. They'll explain dishes if you're unsure, and everything came out at a good pace. It felt like they wanted you to enjoy your meal, not just flip the table. Wrap-up: If you're in NW Austin and want legit Persian comfort food--kabobs, rice, stews, the whole deal--Shandeez is a really easy recommendation. Great "treat yourself" dinner that still feels warm and low-key.

Thanksgiving came around and we had zero desire to cook or clean. Our "plan" (and I use that word…read moreloosely) was Golden Corral. We figured if we got there early, we'd beat the crowd. Cute of us, honestly. We pulled up and that parking lot looked like Beyoncé was performing. Cars everywhere: on the grass, on the curbs, people creating their own imaginary parking spaces. People circling like it was Black Friday. Absolutely not. We left with no backup plan and even less hope. Pulled up Yelp and I remembered that Dimassi's buffet had been on my radar for months, but was it open? Called them up and CHA-CHING!!! Money! They were open, guys. That phone call felt like hitting the lottery. Thanksgiving was saved. We arrived and Dimassi's was calm, clean, and the buffet bar was fully stocked with hot food fresh out of the kitchen. They had your Mediterranean favorites: dips, salads, gyro meat, dolma, chicken kabobs, saffron rice, the good garlicky toum, warm potatoes, fresh pita, everything. They even prepared a turkey for patrons who wanted some. Wow. They understood the assignment. Now a couple things could be tweaked. I like my baba ganoush served warm...and maybe they could have had some lamb options? But, honestly? For a buffet on Thanksgiving at $23 a person ($9 for the 3 yr old with us), they delivered HARD. Dimassi's didn't just feed us...they rescued us from the Golden Corral Hunger Games. Thank you for being open. Thank you for coming through in the clutch. You saved Thanksgiving.

Parking is plentiful right in front of the restaurant. We came by on a Saturday around 1 PM, worried it might be packed, but it was actually pretty quiet. You can sit anywhere you like, grab a plate, and pay when you're done. The space is large and open, with three full rows of food and drinks plus a dedicated station for fruit and desserts. Everything was fresh, not overly salty, and there were plenty of options. My favorites were the hummus with eggplant (so flavorful with great texture), the salad and cucumber salad (fresh and refreshing), the dolma (perfectly done), gyro (tender and tasty), baked cauliflower (so good), fried chicken (juicy, crispy, and not salty), falafel (extra crunchy), and the lentil soup (simple but delicious). And don't miss their coffee at the checkout--it has a hint of warm spice and is the perfect finish after a meal. Surprisingly, I ended up loving the vegetable dishes even more than the meats. Overall, yes, $26 per person is on the higher side (what doesn't cost these days, right?!), but it's a great spot to try a variety of Mediterranean dishes that are fresh, simply seasoned, and let the ingredients shine--perfect whether you're new to the cuisine or just want a bit of everything.

Spice Fine Indian Cuisine is a diamond (surely some of the best Indian food I have eaten in Austin) ... or a chunk of coal. Let me put it another way... I waited to see if I got sick before I wrote this review. For perspective, I grew up in Mexico. I'm not easily frightened away, but I can spot red flags. First thought upon arrival: "So glad I checked their health score on Yelp." See Spice Fine Indian Cuisine (95 out of 100). Upon closer inspection, Spice Fine Indian Cuisine (aka AG's Spice, aka Pushpa) has an abysmal record. In fact, this restaurant is simultaneously operating under three different names and has three different Yelp pages. Please see my photos to review their Food Establishment Inspection Scores from Austin's Open Data Portal. A score of 58 just last year would be considered poor and would indicate that the restaurant has had multiple critical violations, such as issues with food handling, storage, or cleanliness. In Texas, the lowest health rating a restaurant can receive is an F, or a score of 70 or below. This is a travesty, because the food really, truly was delicious, and their offerings are fascinating. If this place were truly cleaned up, it could easily become the toast of the town... it was that good. They specialize in Hyderabad cuisine- something I know nothing about - but they also serve many of American's favorite dishes, such as curry, or Tikka Masala. Red flags: - The man who came to our table to "check" on us was so unkempt that it was remarkable. His hair had not seen shampoo for a very long time. I speculate that he was one or all of the following: owner, manager, chef. - Tables and menus had been wiped clean with a very greasy cloth or sponge. The glass top was streaked everywhere. - Bits of dried old food on supposedly clean dishes (we were handed a stack of dinner plates, and two of them had them). I imagine that they use an industrial dishwasher, so I wasn't alarmed. Still... - We were the only people in the place for two hours (5-7pm) on a Saturday, which happened to be the restaurant's Happy Hour, according to their website. - A very dead potted plant right next to reception. - Three restaurant name changes? - We were seated in a booth which was not flush against the wall. In the crack, I spotted a fork, a newspaper and a wadded tissue.
