If you want to see a piece of Floridian nature and you are in this area, it is worthy of a stop. There are two trials to do, one which is right near the kiddies park area, where you can walk out onto a platform walkway which goes over the river. A five minute walk. Here I saw birds and turtles in the water. The other trial is on the other side of the park. It is approximately half a mile long, along a pathway. All I saw was HUGE crickets and lots of nice foliage to include cacti, see all my pictures for an idea. This makes for a pleasant hour in Miramar. Here is some information regarding this park https://www.broward.org/Parks/Pages/Park.aspx?park=25

Miramar Pineland Park is a 158.68 acre park located off Turnpike Homestead extension in Miramar, Fl. The entrance fee is $1.50 on weekends and holidays. When you drive in there is a sign warning about smash and grabs and instructions not to not leave anything valuable in your car. Not an auspicious start. This land as well as much of South Florida was the home of the Tequesta Indians from 500 B.C.E until the mid 1700's. The arrival of the Spanish in Florida in the 1500's led to their extinction. The land the park sits on was once traversed by Snake Creek, a waterway frequently traveled by the Seminoles in the 1800's to trade or traverse western settlements. It ran through this area and out to the east coast. The Everglades were drained in 1906 for development. Snake Creek was rerouted a mile south next to Hard Rock Stadium and renamed the Snake Creek Canal. In 1908, R.P. Davie who the town of Davie is named after, purchased 28,000 acres of land including this parcel. The land was then used for cattle grazing. In 1958 the Morton family purchased the parcel from Royal Dairy Farms. The family used the land for boarding horses and raising cattle while pursing development opportunities that were ultimately thwarted. The county purchased the main parcel of land that makes up the park in 1989. In 2001, using funds from two park bond issues they purchased the rest. They intended to open the park in 2009 but a downturn in the economy resulted in budget cuts and delayed the opening. In the meantime the area was enjoyed by off road enthusiasts who cut up the area with their ATV's. The county wanted to build a nature center but ended up scraping that plan. The 2.9 million dollar park opened on March 1, 2013. The county wanted to build a nature center but ended up scraping that plan. The high and dry topography of the land made it ideal for growing a hardwood hammock. Slash pine trees, Live Oak, and Maple grow on it's sandy ridges. A grove of slash pines dates back 80 years. It is hard to find hardwoods this old in South Florida because the high land was attractive to developers looking to build houses. Plants that grow here are the meadow beauty, nodding club moss, pickerelwood, Everglades Key False Buttonwood, wand goldenrod, buttonbrush, wild coffee, the giant orchid, and seaside primrosewillow. Migrant birds pass through here in fall, winter, and spring. They include black throated blue warblers, American kestrels, palm warblers, ovenbirds, yellow throated warblers, American redstarts, and red tailed hawks. Other animals that live here are gopher tortoises, lizards, squirrels, and snakes. The park has a splash pad and covered playground. Next to this area are three picnic pavilions that can be rented and a restroom. I came to the park to explore the Pineland Trail, a paved trail that runs through the natural area in the back of the park. There is a water fountain but it is currently closed due to the pandemic. The trails traverses through scrubby flatlands, restored wetlands, and prairie forest. There are interpretive signs along the way describing the history of the area and the flora and fauna. The boardwalk leads to a covered overlook over the wetlands. In the distance you can see Hard Rock Stadium that hosted the Super Bowl in February and now the parking lot has been turned into a drive through Corona virus testing site. The area is so natural that as you walk you can imagine that you are back in the time of the Native Americans except for the constant drone of the cars racing down the turnpike. The hike is an easy one and loops back to the start. There are plans for additional sandy trails. If you are looking for a nice place to walk this is a great park. Just leave your valuables a home. A hike here can be combined with one at nearby Snake Warrior Island.

If you enjoy long hiking along the trails, then Miramar Pineland Park might be for you. This large park is located on S. University Drive and has three large shelters where you can reserve to hold outdoor birthday parties or a barbecue. There is no entrance fee during the week, but on the weekends and holidays, the fee is $1.50 per person. There is a playground for the kids as well as a Splash Pad to keep them cool. There are two trails called Pineland and Wetland. I didn't walk along the Pineland trail, but I did walk along the Wetland trail...it was much shorter. The trail has a large lake, which was home to turtles and ducks. You can call the park office to pre-register for the Naturalist-LED Night Hikes, which is scheduled to take place in October, November, and December. Parents with kids (ages 2-4) can pre-register for the Nature Tots. It's a program where you can learn about nature with monthly themed activities and stories geared for the children. Cost is $5. You can call the park office for more information.

Came to this park to explore the Pineland Trail, which traverses the scrubby flatwoods section of the park. The signage at the trailhead indicates for visitors to stay on the trail, which is a sidewalk that loops back on itself. Part of the trail includes a gazebo lookout, which overlooks the wetland area of the park. There are a few benches scattered throughout the trail, which is less than a mile long. There are signs posted throughout the trail that explain the natural history of the park and the area, the types of plants and birds that populate the grounds, and the types of communities of this preserve (scrubby flatwoods, wet prairies, and freshwater marshes). Note that domesticated animals and pets are not allowed on the trail. The park is designed to preserve the natural fauna and flora of the area. The front section of the park has sheltered pavilions, super clean restrooms, a playground, and even a splash pad for kids. There is another small looped trail called the Wetland Trail and Boardwalk that passes over the wetlands which starts near the playground area. All in all a very neat and well maintained park.

I've always loved this park, so clean, neat, and beautiful, not expensive at all and with a splash pad you can not ask for that much more. We celebrated my son's third birthday and he just loved it, he went from the splash pad to the playground back and forth, it's a very secure park, bathrooms are very clean and I love the fact that they protect the wildlife from the park a lot. The cost to rent a gazebo is not stupid expensive, but you also have the chance to just get a picnic table with no cost and rent an umbrella from them (is $10 for the umbrella and a deposit of $25), and for the entrance is just $1.50 per person but there are days bat are for free, you cannot beat that.

There were multiple food trucks, a DJ, and a variety of tent vendors, including the city, fire rescue, PDQ, and other local businesses. One of the highlights was that the city gave out free kites to all guests. The turnout was great, and the atmosphere was lively. One large field was dedicated to kite flying, while a baseball outfield was set up as a kids' zone with several bounce houses for different age groups. We brought a picnic setup and beach chairs and truly enjoyed spending the day here. Overall, it was a wonderful event, and this park is a great place to visit!

You still have to pay for parking. I recommend the parking lot next door. The Pirate Park Playground was built by Superior Playgrounds who was tasked with designing a one-of-a-kind pirate theme play space to spark creative play and provide a safe place for budding buccaneers to play. The playground is made of recycled material like milk jugs and was created to be corrosion resistant so that it would always look good in this salt water coastal ecosystem. Located only 100 feet from the beach, the playground is fenced in for safety. There is a large pirate ship for older children to climb on and slide down and a smaller area for younger privateers. The crows nest with rigging looked especially fun to climb. Other playground play structures include clownfish and blue tang fish spring riders, a custom octopus playhouse, and palm tree shade. There are four triangle sail shades and poured-in-place safety surfacing to protect little knees and bottoms. Bathrooms are nearby. During my visit the playground was filled with kids and their families enjoying the nautical theme.
