Natural light pours into the living room and fades into a breathtaking cityscape of the Chrysler Building and Long Island/East River by night. The building is very well maintained,service requests are addressed and serviced within 24 hours. The doormen know most residents by name. There is an overall sense of professionalism amongst the staff; as a tenant, it isn't possible to wish for more. I would always recommend living here to friends who are looking for quiet neighbors: Our building is mostly young families and older couples mixed in with a few young professionals. It's far from pretentious but also not a frat house. With all of the horror stories linked to NYC apartments, we feel so lucky to have found the Corinthian. :)

Peaceful, great neighbors, great pool and lots of paths to take long walks on. The only issue there is to worry about- is the flooding. In 3yrs, we experienced 2 MAJOR floods. Of course the townhouses are elevated, so they were not damaged, but no power for a few days and having to keep your cars out of the carports and look for parking in town on higher grounds was a real hassle. What we loved most- proximity to NYC. On the weekends, we could walk to the clubhouse, catch a bus to Port Authority and spend the entire day in the city.

Like my profile heading states, I am NYC Born and Raised so I have lived in my share of NYC apartments. I am by no means a regular contributor to Yelp as you can see from the number of reviews under my belt, but here it goes my honest review of not only the building itself, but of the incredible staff. Its sad that a keyboard and anonymity can lead many on yelp to lash out at those they feel wronged by but it can also be used for praise. No place is perfect. My wife and I moved to a 1 bedroom apt in May of 2015. From the moment we came to look at our 1st apt to the present, the managment team have been nothing short of stellar. 170 has probably one of the finest service managers in NYC Metus Osmanovic. Metus was the first person to greet me on my move in date. Facilities managment in NYC is not an easy task. Metus shines in his field. Knowing the inner workings of your property is key in service management, and Metus knows 170 Amsterdam intricately. Metus makes sure that all service request are met in a timely manner. The Concierge team is lead by the one and only Andres Medina. Andres epitomizes what a concierge should be. Always friendly, always there to lend a helping hand. Its not easy to put on a smiling face and really mean it in NYC but Andres does 365 days a year. Working a front desk not only involves greeting tenants. The hard working concierges at 170 deal with receiving hundreds of packages per day, the reception of guest, and first and foremost, the security of the building. it would take me all day to mention every concierge and all they do in the building, but the team works well together. The review of the 170 staff would not be complete without mentioning the Community Manager Hendrick Fernandez. Hendrick is a true professional. Dealing with the public in a general sense is not easy, dealing with rent paying tenants that expect the world from their buildings management is a whole different arena. Like most of the tenants living at 170 Amsterdam I have expected my fair share from the management. The first true test of how capable and how truly professional Hendrick is came when my growing family needed to move to a bigger apt. The upgrade to a 2 bedroom was seamless. Hendrick and his office staff particularly Olivia who has been promoted to another position within equity residential, made the move for me and my family effortless. All the paper work and headaches were non existent because Hendricks and his team worked diligently to expedite my move within the building. It is obvious that Hedrick Fernandez is passionate about his trade. I can truly say that my expectations have been met at 170 Amsterdam. The building speaks for itself. Beautiful modern apts, Roof Deck with Grills, Community Lounge, Awesome modern gym, Bike room, Music room for those would-be Philharmonic hopefuls, Golf Simulator and even a pet spa. No place within the city limits is perfect. When living in an NYC apt we have to have reasonable expectations.

In addition - everyone on the staff here make our lives so easy. Monica - the building Manager and John are across everything and nothing is a problem. Phil our Head of Maintenance has the absolute best team of people and oh my goodness, you put in a request and it is dealt with ASAP. Their attention to maintenance of building codes is second to none. Then Tom - our Head of Security - he makes our lives safer and easier. We have fantastic activities arranged at no charge by the amazing Jill ( I'm sad that most times work timezones prevents me attending ) We have fabulous amenities a full length lap pool and an amazing gym with classes. Finally we have a team of people - too many to name, from our front desk lead by Dritan, our doormen who even in the coldest days have a smile - Dino / Francois / Richie / Mario - Then the team of porters who are the nicest people -willing to do anything for you to make your life easier. If you are considering moving here - go speak to Richard Fite in leasing ! His honesty and assistance in finding an apartment in the building that suited me was spot on. I have no affiliation with Silverstein Properties but I know how hard it is to find a lovely apartment and did I mention there is a daily back and forth shuttle at peak times along 42nd St? Over the years, I've even moved apartments within the building, and that experience was also seamless and perfect. The apartments here are notably more spacious than those in other doorman buildings in the area, and the pricing is much more competitive as well. Although the building itself dates back to the late 1980s, the apartments have been thoughtfully renovated over time, offering modern and stylish interiors. One feature I particularly appreciate is the on-site gym, which is included without any additional fees--a rarity in the city. The building's staff, including the super and team members like Raul, Juan, and Pedro, are incredibly friendly and responsive. Anytime I've needed a repair or replacement, it's been handled quickly and efficiently, which makes living here all the more stress-free. My apartment faces 8th Avenue, but I have never had any noise issues. Also, there is amazing closet space in the apartments. One amenity I've always wished for is outdoor space, and I'm thrilled that a lounge with outdoor seating is set to open in the spring of 2025! I'm eagerly looking forward to enjoying this new addition--I'm hoping it will have an outdoor shower to make the summer days even better. I can't recommend The Ellington enough. It's a wonderful place to call home!

You can definitely find cheaper in the area - BUT you DEFINITELY get what you pay for. It's worth the extra $200-$300 a month (yes, that much!) to get the kind of service we get here. * Yes, excessive heat in winter. I just keep windows open. Easier than if there's not enough heat. I can deal. * I'm a light sleeper. I run a fan. It blocks out pretty much all the noise. And before anyone disputes whether I may be a heavier sleeper than Dave, just trust me that I'm not. I wake up in hotel rooms when the refrigerator turns on. I wake up if someone in the same room as me gets out of bed or coughs. So yes, I'm a light sleeper. And I have pretty much no trouble here. * I've locked myself out, tried to trap a bee, had an oven light fail within days of moving in, had the staircase light fail (it's 20 feet up so I can't replace it), and each time, the issue was fixed nearly instantly. * Never had a bug problem. If they even think there's one, in come the fumigators. * Finally, yes, it's a bit far from things here. I can't walk to a bar, is probably the single biggest drawback. (Then again, I can walk to work. Gotta choose my battles.) The bus to NYC is walking distance, the train is biking distance. I do wish there were more stuff in Parsippany, but I don't wish I were living anywhere else, at least at this point in my life. Don't forget to give them my name when you move in. I'll share the bonus with you. ;)

Our toilet was running a little so they replaced the entire thing while we were gone one weekend (and it still matched the pink bathroom, hah). Another time we accidentally hung too many towels on the towel rack and it fell off the wall. We felt too sheepish to tell them but when we did, they fixed it with no issue. Tons of parking, and there's a convenience store basically on the lot (not owned by CH of course). Air conditioning in the living room was a plus. We got our full security deposit back and they told us not to worry about it as long as we didn't punch holes in the wall. Management in general was super friendly and helpful. We had a weird request for a 9-month lease and they even helped us out with that. The only downfall is that Parsippany sucks and there's nothing to do there. You also can't control the heat and it got disgustingly hot in the winter, to the point where we had all the windows open while it was snowing. I miss this apartment - it was the best.

The owner initially agreed to return the security deposit in full (minus last month's electricity bill) but has not done so a month after our move-out. After our multiple requests for the deposit, the owner started to verbally harass my partner with misogynistic comments and outright refused to return the deposit. We are preparing to take legal actions. I would not recommend renting unit 51F. The building by itself is decent, e.g., friendly and helpful staff, close proximity to major subway lines. However, there are loud street noises from fire trucks, ambulances, policy vehicles in the morning and sometimes during the night.

I deeply regret moving here. The heating and air-conditioning units in both rooms are as loud as a…read moretruck running next to your bed. There is no wall thermostat, so you are constantly either too hot or too cold. I wake up throughout the night to manually adjust the temperature. I work from home and have to turn the unit off during calls just so I can hear people. I was also told that the units are not turned on during apartment viewings, which means prospective tenants have no way of understanding how disruptive the noise is before signing a lease. The shared washer and dryer are also unpleasant, and the hallways feel dated and depressing. I am counting the days until I can move out. At this point, the only resolution I want is for management to allow me to leave without penalty. The HVAC noise has made living and working here unbearable.
