There's a reason they're one of the top rental spots in Key West everything from the scooters to the carts is dialed in, and they make exploring the island easy, smooth, and honestly pretty hard to mess up... unless you're us. We started out like responsible adults early morning, clear heads, solid plan: cruise around for a couple hours, take in the island, maybe stop here and there. Somewhere around late morning, though, that plan quietly slipped overboard. Next thing you know, we've got a small fleet scooters buzzing, two carts rolling, music blasting off a Bose speaker, cooler packed like we were prepping for an expedition. We weren't just sightseeing we were inhabiting the island. Drifting through traffic at that slow, salty Key West pace, catching the breeze, waving at strangers, stopping at random corners, parks, and stretches of shade like a bunch of grown men pretending we didn't have responsibilities waiting back home. And then... the nonsense. I didn't know scooters could do wheelies turns out they can. Didn't know golf carts could drift turns out they absolutely will if you find even a whisper of wet pavement (and somehow, we always did). We probably broke every unwritten rule: music too loud, turns too wide, laughter echoing down streets like we owned the place. It wasn't fast, it wasn't reckless in the "life flashing before your eyes" kind of way it was that slow, careless, teenage kind of fun where the world just feels wide open. Looking back, we probably deserved an escort... or at least a warning. But that's the thing those scooters weren't just transportation, they were the excuse. The real experience was just us being us, a little wild, a little dumb, and having the kind of day you can't quite explain without smiling.

We've had some shady experiences in the past when renting ATV's and other scenarios where we rented a vehicle, but our experience with Sunshine Scooters was nothing like that at all. Nancy is the master planner and had already figured out everything we needed to do before arrival. She previously called the store several times before pickup to see what our scooter would cost, if we could park our car here while renting the scooter (which we could), to receive the lowdown on where we could park, and the basic rules of the road. When we arrived, we were promptly greeted by one gentleman behind the counter than handed off to Brandon. Brandon was a superstar - friendly, great smile, respectful, provided a map and circled several locations we had on our to-do list, and gave us all the other information we needed to survive a week on a scooter driving around in the Keys. Good job Brandon! They have helmets available at no additional charge and there are restrooms for customers as well. The restrooms are surprisingly in great shape and very clean, I did not expect this from a scooter rental store. The rental cost us a little over $200 for 6 days. I believe it is normally more than that but we were able to get a military discount, so be sure to let staff know if you are former military. One scooter fits two people and it's a 50 CC, so max speed is around 45 when you're going downhill. You can get around to just about anywhere in Key West on this thing and parking for scooters is free unless noted otherwise. If you are in a car or golf cart you're looking at spending $5-$10 an HOUR to park anywhere in this city, so scooters and bicycles are the way to go if you want to park for free. You will be required to sign some paperwork like any other rental place, but the one cool thing about renting the scooter is that the insurance coverage only cost $10 the entire time your rent it. The only stipulation is that if you do have an accident and there is visible damage to the vehicle be sure to get a police report filled out otherwise you will not be covered. The scooter gets roughly 100 miles to the gallon, I know because I used to have a 50 CC just like this one. If you do get low on gas the shop will fill it up for free. They also offer a pickup service if you are unable to bring the scooter back. Additionally, they have a key drop area out front where you can drop the scooter and key off after normal business hours if you need to head out of the Keys unexpectedly. All-in-all, riding around on this scooter made our vacation so much more enjoyable. We were free to drive anywhere we wanted and had access to free parking everywhere. If you are here on vacation, I highly recommend getting you a scooter from Sunshine Scooters.

We rented a 6-person golf cart for 3 days and also opted for the backpack cooler (that came with a lock so no one could steal it while leaving it on the cart). They delivered the golf cart to our condo and walked us through the rules, laws, and tips for parking. We had a blast driving around the island and the golf cart was in great condition. The only thing I wish they offered with the rental is a golf cart phone holder. Would have been nice to be able to have my phone up higher while looking at Waze for directions to places. You can buy a magnetic one on Amazon for $17 and I HIGHLY recommend doing that. The cart came with a killer sound system that you can connect to via Bluetooth on your phone. Also had fun color changing lights underneath for night driving. We ended up changing our pick up location for the cart on our last day and they had no issue with us changing that. Moped Hospital's customer service is top-notch and the pricing is exceptional. Even though I'm a frequent renter, the staff always takes the time to review all the policies and procedures, and they do a great job of checking out the scooter before it leaves the lots.
