Updating my review from last year and I'm retaining my 5-star rating. The owner, Vanessa, is one of the main reasons for this rating. She truly cares about her clients and makes sure they are properly taken care of, either by her or her staff. I get my Aveda hair and skin products here and when the Mint does not have an item in stock, they order it for you and contact you when the product(s) come in. This was the reason I visited the store today. Vanessa also informed me that Aveda is changing its skin care product line, and she should know the results in December. She said she would inform me of any changes and if any of my favorites were being discontinued, she would let me know so I could "stock up". Now that is great customer service! Also, I noticed the sign at the front counter stating "American Express was no longer accepted" was missing. (During my last visit three weeks ago, the receptionist confirmed this per the sign.) I asked Vanessa about this, and she stated she is accepting AmEx again as she discovered this was the primary credit card for so many of her customers. Now, that's listening and responding to your clientele! Vanessa was working the receptionist station today as she is looking for a someone that is mature and has some professional experience as a receptionist or a salon team member to take over this position. Mistake in choosing this salon, holidays of 2025, in a prestigious area and did so as I felt I would receive the service, respect, and upscale stylists, normally in this area. I went to great lengths to explain to my stylist what I wanted, personal photos, inspiration photos, etc. Didn't get close at all. Was told to "live with it" but I got to thinking a few days afterwards, was it just that sytlist didn't really have the experience that was played up? So I contacted the owner Vanessa Minter/ Denney hoping for a resolution, perhaps another stylist, her professional opinion as to what went wrong with my color only to be met with intense hostility, rudeness, and non-compliance. I was stunned. Never have I ever been so verbally abused by anyone. Anyone singing her praises here must have caught her on a "good day" or it's a family member, such as Chloe her daughter posting another 5-star review, or friends giving her a boost on the ratings. Be a client at your own risk and pocketbook loss. read more

Finally I've found a great hair cut! After my barber moved I have spent the past few months in search of a good haircut. I went to Mint based on a friend's recommendation after having my hair utterly destroyed by another salon in town. I didn't have high hopes that Mint could make my hair look good, but that's exactly what they did! The interior is large, open, and clean. They have about 8-10 salon chairs, and 3 hair washing stations. They also have a large wall of hair products available for sale. After sitting down Vanessa took the time to look over my hair and the way it grows naturally, before beginning to cut it. She had no choice but to cut my hair pretty short to try to make up for the uneven-ness that existed from the previous cut, but the final result was terrific. 2 weeks later my hair looks perfect. Vanessa and her team were extremely friendly from start to finish, and even offered me a drink while I got my cut. She told me they will be doing some remodeling soon, and also adding a barber chair and shaving station, so I'm excited to see how it all turns out. While Mint is definitely a salon and serves more women than men, it's the best men's haircut I have ever received and I look forward to every visit! read more

if I could give zero stars, I would. The owner, Vanessa is just mean and high strung. She doesn't listen and talks over you. if you do manage to get a word in or ask a question, you'll be shut down. She talks badly about her other employees - how do I know? Because she said some not so nice things about her stylist, Marissa, to me... What kind of person does that?? I wanted to remove my five star review for this business but Yelp would not allow it. So I am updating my review. I loved this salon and the people in it, it was always so clean and professional in every way yet, I felt like I had a family here. I had two different stylists in the couple of years I went here both of them quit and I really never knew why. During the covid pandemic I did not cut my hair for over a year. When I finally went back in the stylist I absolutely adored had quit and I was told there was a new stylist who was just as good. Since I had not been disappointed in the past I went for it! I don't get my hair colored and I wanted my nearly waist length hair cut to a shorter length, to my collarbone. I also was going to donate my Virgin hair to an agency that makes wigs for cancer victims. I had everything with me needed for the hair donation. I gave the stylist all of the information about how to put my hair in four braids I brought the rubber bands I brought the Ziploc bag and I showed her, I actually pointed to my collar bones and said this is the length I want my hair. I told her we have to braid the hair first and then cut the braids off and I'll put them in the bag and mail them to the donation people. She lifted my hair up put it in a ponytail and cut it off at the base of my skull. I was floored. Absolutely stunned. What was I going to do? I told her this is not what I asked this is not what I wanted what did you just do to my hair? She just stood there and stared at me didn't say a word. Well now I needed to have this mess shaped and cut at least in a decent style. There was nothing I could do at this point and I wasn't going to get up and run out with this mop mess on my head. She proceeded to cut it and it got shorter and shorter and it was incredibly poorly done and uneven. My hair is not that important to me but I really wanted what I wanted. I paid her I tipped her but I would never go back to her. I waited four or five days before I called Vanessa and when I did I was absolutely floored at her reaction. One minute she's screaming at me calling me a terrible customer the next minute she's crying hysterically because she's dealing with a dying parent, then she's yelling at me again because I had not been in there in years and years, then she's crying hysterically again because she's trying to keep a hair salon open in the middle of a pandemic. Her emotions were all over the place and her attempts at gaslighting me were obvious. Pretty much all I could say was wow over and over again, wow. I have never in my life been treated this way. When my hair was all cut off and my wishes were not met I could have become hysterical, become irrational, become angry, become everything other than what I did which was I controlled myself and just went with it. I was not happy but it wasn't the end of the world it's only hair and it will grow back. But Vanessa's reaction was so bizarre, I felt embarrassed for her. She offered to give me my money back but I didn't want that the purpose of my call was to merely tell her I wasn't happy with this haircut, I wasn't happy my wishes weren't taken into consideration, I only wanted to tell her that I won't be back with this particular stylist again and I don't want it to be uncomfortable for her when I come in and see a different stylist. I actually had to have a second cut a week later as it was so jagged and irregular that it literally looked as if somebody hacked my hair off with a pair of dull scissors. I probably should mention here that I am legally blind and it is very difficult for me to see in a mirror so I couldn't tell any of this other than the length, prior to leaving the salon. It's really a shame because I liked this place very much and since I don't drive I could walk there from my home easily. But now, I totally understand why there is such a turnover with stylists. It's hard to work in a hostile work environment and I'm sure it's frustrating for them to see how clients are treated when they complain. I have read other reviews from customers and the response from the owner or the manager of the salon are absolute vitriol. I think a good business person should take criticism and try to change their practices. Anyway I'm not welcome there and I'm okay with that because I would never ever ever go back to this salon again. read more

I recently moved to the area and was looking for a new salon. I always choose Aveda salons because I like the environmentally focused products. My Aveda search led me to Mint, and it did not disappoint! There are a few levels of stylists by experience and price point. But no need to shy away from the less experienced; I went to the most beginner stylist, China, and she did an AMAZING job! I never like how hair color turns out on my dark hair but decided to give it another try, and she nailed it. China is a very talented colorist! I highly recommend Mint overall, and will definitely be going back. read more

I LOVE VANESSA AND MINT ON THE AVENUE!!!! I've been seeing Vanessa since November 2019 and have never gone to another salon since then. Vanessa was completely flexible on what I wanted (which is so rare because some colorists and stylists never listen to you, which happened to me last time at another salon). She even made her own recommendations based on her extensive hair experience, which made my hair turn out AMAZING!! You pay so much more at other places and don't even get what you want half the time. This place is worth every. single. penny! Don't waste your time at any other salon. She will do it right the first time and so much more! The Aveda products and experience at this salon are wonderful. I felt so relaxed and comfortable while I was there! Vanessa is insanely sweet and so are all of the other stylists (Michelle does AMAZING work for curly hair queens and special events!!) take my advice and visit this salon. You will not regret it!! I have never been happier and have never felt so confident with my hair. I'll never go to a different salon! Very nice people that work there, but for spending a collective total of about 9 hours and a chunk of some money later to walk out with no difference from how I went in is pretty upsetting. Was told that I wasn't ready for the change in what I had originally wanted (1st picture to the second(which should never be said) and actually was not the case, and then that I wanted it more natural and golden, (3rd photo that was shown to dresser) to not have that (4th photo, which is basically my natural hair). They did work hard and were kind throughout the process, however was not what I wanted at the end of the day. read more

I'm new to the area and was looking for stylist. Sonia at Mint on the Avenue was recommended by a friend and I was not disappointed. She gave me a beautiful short haircut which was exactly what I wanted. Sonia takes time to understand what you want, and make it happen. I was also impressed with the whole salon.
