Mint Leaf Thai Body Works is the sister location of Ayodhya, a Thai massage and meditation center (also in Claremont). Mint Leaf is located in the Claremont Village. I wanted to schedule a massage at Ayodhya, but they were closed and referred me to Mint Leaf. I was willing to give it a shot, and I booked an East-West Massage for 1 hour (cost: $65). It was truly phenomenal. As you walk into Mint Leaf you are greeted by friendly staff. If you are lucky the store's owner, a delightful Thai woman whose name I can't remember, will be there. She is charming, warm, and welcoming. You will be escorted to the back to change into loose-fitting clothing, and then taken to a small room where a bed and pillow await. The entire experience is marvelous. The place is clean, it smells delicious, and there is soft, soothing music playing. The person who massaged me was a very nice gentleman who had very powerful arms and hands. Since I got an East-West massage, I had a combination of Swedish massage (where they work out the kinks and tension in your back by rubbing, etc) and Thai massage. If you haven't experienced it, Thai massage is a type of massage where you are systematically stretched to relieve muscle tension. Thank god I am flexible, because I don't think I could have held those positions for long if I werent! (If you are not comfortable, just say so and they won't stretch you too far). The entire experience was soooo soothing, I feel like I got the best of both worlds with the East-West massage. My body feels spectacular today! After the massage, you may stay in the little room as long as you want, to meditate, stretch, whatever. Then, you change back into your clothes. When I came out, I was given a delicious Jasemine green tea, and I sat and chatted with the store's owner and her daughter. They are so friendly that I ended up staying and chatting with them for about 2 hours after my massage finished! Give this place a try, it is a true gem, and you won't be disappointed. read more

Oh my goodness, this was the BEST massage I have ever had! I was walking in the Village with some friends and noticed their sign out front ($45/hour Thai massage, walk-ins welcome) and we went in to check it out and I decided right then that I wanted my first Thai massage. The place is gorgeous inside, and Yim was very nice and courteous. I was happy they provide clothes to change into, as I was wearing a dress that day. Seriously, this massage was like doing yoga/pilates, a chiropractic adjustment and a massage all rolled into one. The prices are as followed: $45 for 1hr of Swedish massage $55 for 1hr of combo (Thai/Swedish) $65 for 1hr of Thai massage The first time I entered Mint Leaf, I was a little scared as I had never had a Thai massage before. I was searching for a good massage therapist for years. At the time, I just gave birth and my upper back was killing me! I thought Swedish massage will not do it so I opted for something more daring - the combo (a combination of Swedish/Thai massage). And - WOW - the massage therapist just melted away years of aches and pain in one hour. The combination massage is very different than the usual deep tissue as the therapist stretched me in places I didn't know I need stretching. I was aching the next day, but the muscular tensions were no longer there. And I felt GREAT many months afterward. Since that very first day 2.5 years ago, I have became a regular customer. What a find! We walked in on a Sunday afternoon asking for simultaneous massages. The sweet lady at the front couldn't book us immediately but sent someone to their other location to pick up another therapist. About 10 minutes later, we were bare foot and changed into loose fitting bottoms and a top. We were put into a "couples" room - two mats separated by a curtain - instead of the room which accommodates six clients. We have had several thai massages over the past 10 years, including a couple in Bangkok, and the treatment you receive here is nearly exactly the same. My therapist was Yiam who is soft spoken, kind, and STRONG. Loved the shoulder and neck focal work that he did on me for the first 30 minutes. Afterwards, he proceeded to the thai stretching, standing, and pushing -- all of it was awesome. By the time I walked out, I was relaxed and refreshed. If I lived in the area, I would be a regular. I was nervous and scared yet I wanted to experience a new type of massage. Tea Leaf is a small yet clean shop with a very calming ambience. The owner and staff don't speak English very well, but they're so friendly and professional!! I have been here twice so far. Both time - the experience is absolutely blissful. I usually give the typical 20% service tip for good service, but I found myself tipping $30 each time. I had different masseuses yet they're both absolutely wonderful. These masseuses work very hard and their hard work is reflected through their hands, which are pretty deformed. :( The first time I went there, I requested a traditional Thai massage ($45 for 1hr). I felt pretty shocked throughout the massage session as it's very different from the Swedish massage. With a Thai massage, the masseuse put me into very awkward yoga-like positions. There were a lot of stretching. I was stretched in areas I didn't even know that I needed stretching. For sure, this type of massage is not for the weak! My 2nd time here - I thought requested an east/west combo ($55 for 1hr). And - WOW - it's such a thrilling experience. The masseuse named Pest is absolutely wonderful. She melted away all my tension knots. I also got stretched with this type of massage but but not as much yoga-like as the regular Thai one. I am sored the next day in the areas she worked on, but I feel absolutely wonderful - tension and stress free. Thank you!!!!! Now that I am back to work, I shall definately need massages more often. Seems like I have the best group of students every year, but teaching can get very stressful at time!! Went back today and I feel very disappointed. I got a deal from Groupon in October 2015 and they wouldn't grant the deal today even though it was not expired. Yesterday when I walked in to make an appointment I already told them I have groupon and he said it was fine if it was in October. They said they're having a problem with Groupon with newly purchaser only. Today I went in and met another lady and she refused to grant it. She said they are helping my by 1. telling me to get a refund from Groupon (how is that helping me from their end?) 2. ask to have the copy of my voucher (yeah right, what if they mark it as redeemed then I wouldn't get a refund at all). 3. They told me what the full price is. I know that since I've been there before and it's posted right outside. 4. They told me Groupon doesn't pay them for 3 months. As if I could help them? 5. When I was trying to explain my husband(we were speaking in Thai so my husband was puzzled), they kept jumping in conversation between us and wouldn't let me talk to him, kept saying "I'm trying to help you, I'm trying to help you" very rude. 6. They asked me to pay $10 extra. I refused because I was already didn't like how they deal with the problem. Last time, my husband and I paid full price for 1 hour massage and tipped $20 for each person and it was a total of $40 just for tip alone. If we get the service today, we would tip the same amount if not more but no.... We live in Claremont and we understand it's expensive to run a small business here so we are generous about tips. I've gotten an East-West massage as well as a Thai massage. I prefer the Thai massage because I'm not a fan of the massage oils used in the East-West package (but I think that's more of a preference thing, both massages felt very good and worked out my knots and aches). I am reposting my review for Mint Leaf: I discovered Mint Leaf a few years ago after going to Ayodhya Thai (their sister location down the street in Pomona. I LOVED the latter, every time I went and it continued to be my favorite until I noticed all my favorite people left. Plus, I couldn't get in some time, so one day I opted for Mint Leaf instead. I've never been disappointed in the 5 or so times I've been here. (In fact, they have/had my review posted on a sign for awhile inside the door! Yeah!) When you get a Thai massage you have to truly give yourself over to the therapist and trust that he/she will read your body and give you what you need. Don't be modest, your bits are covered and if you slip a bit here or there, nobody judges or cares-its about your wellness that matters. You will be folded into origami shapes, you will experience Downward-Facing Dog at some point and you WILL walk away feeling better about yourself and the world in most cases. I had an Asian practitioner friend once tell me that "Thai a massage is a yoga fo lazee pepo" (insert accent). I have used that many times and think it is accurate. Book with confidence at MInt Leaf and browse their nice accouterments afterward, I especially like (and use) their Thai Balm. i have never had a massage before and after a lot of stress emotionally and physically, i needed another vice to put this to bed. i called and they immediately made me an appointment for an hour and a half later. I wasn't expecting it to be that soon, but OK! I walked in and they greeted me with smiles and a warm welcome. Genuine hospitality! I didn't know what massage to get so i asked them to recommend one. They did a basic assessment by asking a few questions about how i feel, if i am stressed, if i am sore, what activities if any i normally do, etc. They suggested the combo massage which consists of thai (stretching) and swedish. I took the recommendation. Wadee(my massage therapist) led me down into a very serene hallway and handed me this gignormous shirt and short. she explained to me that they do their massages with clothes on not in the nude. whew! that was my biggest concern! anyway, the hallway and the place hand candles, therapy music, and just lightly lit. As soon as i stepped into that area, i already felt relax and at peace. this was the start of my tranquility journey. i changed into the standard clothing given to me and wadee was waiting for me outside the changing room/bathroom. she then led me into a harem-like room where there was a futon and pillow. my massage was amazing! i felt like i let go of emotions and stress for an hour. she stretched my entire body and worked through all of my knots in my upper back and shoulders. She even was able to do some type of "chiropractic" moves on me that helped realign my spine. Anyway, I will definitely go back there and ask for Wadee again. this will be at least a once a month routine for me if not twice a month. It's a great way to just escape your demons and the battles in your head for an hour. It cleared my mind and I was able to focus on what I needed to do for myself!
