Mussel tartine
Yaxun J.

Mink is an absolute gem for anyone who appreciates thoughtfully curated tinned fish and creative, flavor-forward small plates. Their selection is both impressive and inviting. We ordered 3 tinned fish selections: the lingfjord cockles, smoked whitefish in oil with garlic and shallot, and then the smoked cod liver. The standout for me is the smoked cod liver--rich, soft, and deeply satisfying. It's one of those bites that lingers in the best possible way and keeps you thinking about it long after the meal. The other 2 were decent but this one is for sure the star. Besides the tinned fish, I was able to try their mussel tartine which was very unique but also incredibly delicious. The lobster roll was good as well, but unfortunately nothing overly unique about it. Compared to the rest, it felt a bit lacking. The oysters ordered were also fresh and the team does a great job pointing out which oyster is what type when you get several. Overall, it was a great experience and I'd be excited to go back!

Went to Mink for our anniversary dinner. What a treat if you like seafood. We got the tasting menu, which did not disappoint, and added on the lobster roll since we were celebrating. Everything was perfectly cooked and thoughtfully presented with wine pairings. What a treat! The service was very attentive, and I always enjoy sitting at the bar to watch the action. Highly recommended.

Hands down one of the best chef's menus I've experienced. I added the wine pairing, which featured several Scandinavian wines--excellent choices. Cute, intimate location and everything I ate was amazing. First time trying caviar ice cream and it's a must-try. My only "complaint" is that the menu changes so often, but that just means more opportunities to try something new.

My gosh, I am sooo happy I found this place via Yelp. We showed up on Saturday afternoon for an early dinner and was turned away because we were not aware we had to RSVP. Well after standing in the area for less than 5 minutes and seeing the dishes passing by our faces, we knew we had to come back. So as soon as I got in the car, I made us reservations for a 6pm dinner after running the Detroit International Half Marathon. When we walked in on Sunday evening, we were super giddy and happy to be dining here. The food, ambiance, service, wait staff all get 10+. We dined on the East Coast oysters (choose your own) $46/dozen, lobster roll with homemade potato chips and pickles, Chilean Sea Bass, a banana pudding (see photo) like dessert that was to die for. The whole dining experience felt 'rich' and deserved. I cannot say one disappointing thing about my experience. If I'm ever in Detroit again, I might have to make two visits to Mink. I enjoyed it that much.

This location is very small so reservations are recommended. They have a fixed menu and a couple things on their menu as well. Overall the food tasted good, some things better than others and the seafood was fresh, but for 3 of us to do the tasting menu, and 2 drinks each it was over $500. Nice to try once, but likely won't be back.

Mink was an incredible dining experience. My husband and I went for our first wedding anniversary to get the tasting menu and it did not disappoint- it actually exceeded every high expectation I had! The ambiance was perfect - small, intimate, nice background and not overbearing music, with top-notch service. I could go on. It was so quaint and reminded me of a small high-end restaurant in NYC. As for the food - every new course surpassed the prior, although my favorite was the trout tartare with coco melon. Every dish had perfectly complimenting flavors without trying to do too much. They somehow even made simple oysters so outstanding with huckleberry jam or truffle honey oil. We added on the lobster roll to split (amazing, but not traditional), and the Brie ice cream with caviar bump for desert....I might go back for that alone. We definitely went above what we'd get for our typical date night since it was our wedding anniversary celebration, and the staff made it extra special by providing us with complimentary champagne and sparkling moscato at the end. I wish I could go back every week - definitely recommend!!

Food 5/5 Fresh and delicious oysters. The lobster roll was on a brioche bun and coupled with pickled something. Service 5/5 I did not have a reservation, but the host made me feel welcomed and comfortable until a table opened up for me. My waitress was very attentive. Ambiance 5/5 This is a small quaint restaurant. It's ideal for a solo outing, a date or small group. I thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience and look forward to returning.

Plum Tarte

We were in the mood for seafood (visiting from Arizona) and were fortunate to stumble upon Mink. We decided on the Tasting Menu and it was one of the most memorable meals I have had. Each course was fantastic. The star was the trout tartare. The smoked mahi mahi in the radicchio salad was also next level. Each dish had great balance and a lot of creativity. The caviar sundae at the end tasted like salted caramel ice cream. Very unique. My only tweak would have been the lavender crème fresh that accompanied the plum tarte. It doubled down on the bitterness as opposed to enhancing with a sweet flavor. This is a small personal preference of mine and in no way detracts from the amazing meal we had. Melissa our server was also very attentive, kind and knowledgeable. Run, don't walk to this place.

Two different caviar with blinis potato chips

Fourth time here and it just keeps getting better. Solid caviar selection and plenty of alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages to choose from. We went overboard this last time and we're total glutton. The service staff was wonderful and didn't seem to mind that. Lol. Love the hole in the wall atmosphere with limited seating.

Mink was the location for a recent birthday night out. The restaurant was a surprise for me, and a new place for us both. While fun to check out, it won't be on our roster to repeat. We were promptly greeted at the door and shown to our seat. The interior is very cozy, and has a minimalistic elegance. There are 3 tables and a number of chairs at the bar, and that's it. We both decided on the tasting menu for the evening, as it seemed to have the best variety. Results are mixed for us. Oysters were fresh and delicious, the terrine was beautiful if a little bland, kale salad hit the spot for both of us, the Coquille St Jacques was not our favorite iteration of the dish, and the Bourride would have done better with a flakier fish. Dessert is where they really missed the mark. When asked about food sensitivities at the beginning, I mentioned that I avoid gluten, although not celiac and I don't need to be as strict as many people are. I was told that it was an easy menu to modify. Aside from the crackers that the terrine was served on, our meals looked identical. Before dessert, the server asked if either of us wanted to add on a scoop of house-made ice cream, and we declined. We both understood this to be in addition to the spice cake that was part of the fixed meal. They brought my husband the spice cake from the prix-fixe meal, and brought me a scoop of ice cream. And that was it. I was stunned. If I had known that I was only getting a scoop of ice cream, there were other flavors I would have chosen. I took one bite of my "Lingonberry" scoop that I wasn't asked if I wanted and I was done. It was way too tart. Conveniently, the server didn't ask if I had enjoyed my dessert as she took away my husband's plate but left my nearly full bowl in the table. Disappointing end to the meal, which admittedly we weren't blown away by. Not a place I would recommend for a birthday meal, just as a PSA. We won't be back.

Walked in on a Friday with no reservation and was lucky enough to be seated after a 15 minute wait. My friend and I got one of each oyster since we wanted to try. We absolutely loved the bay water indigo one. The waiters were also very sweet and helpful there. I would come back here again, but I highly recommend making a reservation as it can get packed. Super cute inside as well

Awesome food and equally amazing service! I got the lobster roll after a nice message upstairs at Meta! The ambiance is trendy and usually the food doesn't match the vibe but this gem exceeds expectations!

Wow! Wow! This place was so cool and funky! By far the best place we have visited in Detroit during our week long visit. First off, they are a seafood place. That said they had the best Oysters I have ever tasted. They had an amazing selection, and were so fresh. We also had one of the canned seafood dishes and it was served it a bunch of sides to mix and match and dip. It was like nothing I've had before. The staff were super friendly and helpful l I would highly recommend putting on your list of you make it out to historic Corktown

I think the employees like working here! The food was amazing. If you want to pair the wine, ask for a suggestion. I'm so glad we did, both the red and the white wines we had complemented the food perfectly. The menu changes regularly, so what we ordered likely won't be available next week. Except the bread - I rarely eat any bread, but I'm glad I did this evening. Tables are small, but so are the plates. Share your food, there's just too many good things to try. And yes, even dessert was amazing. Dress up or not, doesn't matter. Anything goes. A sport coat is fine, but so are sweaters and sneakers. Entrance is a really plain door on the side, not at all where we expected it to be - and with very little indication of where it was. Nate and I stopped in on our most recent visit to Detroit and had a lovely experience. The space is tucked away but had a surprising amount of outdoor space--we were there in January but I'd love to come back in the summer. We were greeted right away and given a spot near the bar. The menu includes cocktails, lots of wine, and several tasty food options. It was quite busy inside, so it took a bit of time for our server to come over to us, but we weren't in a rush. They had ten cocktails on their list and I tried the bullet proof soul and Nate got the negroni alla perra. The ingredients list for some of the cocktails include things I've never heard of, but at a place like this, I just know it's going to be good. Our drinks were perfectly balanced and very tasty. We also ordered the mortadella sandwich to split--this was delicious. It was pretty messy, but worth it. It was perfectly toasted and full of mortadella. Everything on the menu sounded delicious and I would love to try more of the food options. Can't wait to visit again!

They have a nice drink menu with a wide choice of wine (obviously) but also some interesting liquor and beer options. Their cocktail program is actually quite unique. If you want to buy bottles though, I think this is where they excel, because they have some really nice bottles available for sale, which of course you can drink on the spot, but they do charge a $20 corkage fee, which is why I knocked them down a star. I can understand if you're bringing your own bottle, but if you're buying the bottle there, I think it's kind of crazy to have that high of a fee. Just my opinion though. If everything is as good as what we ordered this time, I can't wait to try more! Firstly, the natural lighting in here is just fantastic, and I really like the layout - you have a bit more space than some of the other downtown restaurants, and it's fairly quiet. Nice cozy booth seating as well as chairs. The gated parking lot is also a huge plus downtown and service was absolutely excellent. We came on a Sunday to try their all day happy hour, and it did not disappoint. $2 oysters meant that we ordered 2 dozen, and while the east coast varieties tend to be our favorite, their west coast selection was also top notch. Just lovely, salty, briny fresh oysters with a great mignonette. We also both ordered dirty martinis, and they're perfect for $8. We also had the focaccia which comes with this amazing tomato pesto - it tasted like pizza concentrated into a sauce. Yum! And the focaccia is perfect - the kind of bread that makes you remember why bread is so good. Pillowy and soft inside, toasted crispy outside; an amazing app. For dinner, we had the squid ink and seafood pasta, the wild striped bass and the lamb. Everything was absolutely so delicious and perfectly cooked. They split the pasta for us, which was very nice, and I just can't get over the delicious unique flavor of that dish. Outstanding. This pasta is the kind of pasta you want to order when you go out. Lots of yummy seafood, perfectly seasoned al dente pasta, savory sauce. The bass was the most perfectly cooked piece of fish I've had in a long time - crispy skin, tender moist flesh, buttery sauce. And lastly, I was super impressed with the lamb - it was tender yet crispy on the edges, savory and satisfying. If a seafood restaurant is doing lamb this well, I've got to see what else they have to offer. Can't wait to try the tasting menu. Even hubby was impressed and had zero complaints about anything, and he's tough to please. What a gem of a restaurant.

My first impression: Noisy! Lots of hard surfaces. Difficult to hear the hostess, server and my wife. The tables were appropriately spaced for diners and servers to work with no bump & grind. We started by sharing a dozen oysters and the pear/walnuts salad. The oysters were a bit small-ish; but otherwise, excellent. Server took a drink order from my wife, but skipped me. Eh? I flagged down another server to order a Pino. It took a surprisingly long time to arrive. On the plus side, I was offered a taste to insure it was satisfactory - it was. The pear salad w/walnuts was excellent. The pears were sliced paper-thin. One of the joys of eating a properly ripened pear is the juicy explosion and thinly sliced pears defeat the juicy explosion. If the pears were fully ripe, perhaps cube them? Weirdly; the two sides (mushrooms, potatoes) were served before the entrees. The server noticed, seemed surprised and withdrew the sides, returning with our entrees (lamb shoulder, steak). Then the side returned. Both entrees were warm-ish and the sides were hot. The 14-day, dry-aged steak was ordered medium-rare and was seasoned and prepared as ordered. Again; warm-ish, not hot. I expected better beefy flavor for a dry-aged steak. One end was a bit chewy. Tenderness improved as I got to the other end of the steak. I ordered it with horseradish. I will admit to being a weirdo who loves spicy horseradish (and wasabi) that will clean the sinuses - this was "Ohio-spice'd" horseradish ... not creamy, but less spicy than Arby's Horsey sauce. The mushroom and the potato sides were served hot from the kitchen. Both were excellent, no complaints. The presentation of the steak needs improvement. It was a properly prepared, lonely lump of brown, served on a white plate with cracked ceramic glaze. The lamb shoulder was the better entree. For some reason, my wife was expecting Middle Eastern seasoning. The menu did not mention Middle Eastern seasoning and she did not ask, so that's on her, not the kitchen. I thought it was excellent. Gripe: After the entrees arrived, our server did not return to ask if the entrees were satisfactory. She did return later to ask if we wanted a second round of drinks. We did ... We were offered dessert and ordered, but never asked if we wanted coffee or an after dinner drink. Both desserts were excellent. Will we return? Probably ... not. With tip; dinner for two was $286. At this price point I expect better: Less noise, better beef and flawless service.
