I never like to admit that my sister is right. Never. But after her and I had both been to several nail salons in Santa Barbara and Goleta separately, she kept telling me that I needed to visit Minh Ly's for my next mani-pedi because they are simply the best for the price. Sure enough, I was well overdue for some self care with my cuticles beyond repair. My sister made us an appointment together. Sadly due to work I was running 20 minutes behind and I told them over the phone that if they need to move to their next customer appointment that I can reschedule. They simply said to take my time! I arrived all stressed and sweating, yet Me hong (Amy) and Huong (Bee) reassured me that all is well. After I had calmed down, the sweet Vietnamese gals of countless years of nail experience took amazing care of my sister's and my nails. We sadly suffer from horrible ingrown nails in our toes, yet they were sure to dig them out and clean up our feet to a brand new condition. The pedicure consisted of a foot bath, nail and cuticle trim, callus pumicing, a scrub, massage, and painting or buffing. Then they continued with the same services but on our hands. I just had the most amazing experience at Minhly's Nails. The ladies were so incredibly sweet and B (name of nail technician) did an excellent job on my nails. I went in today to get a gel manicure and pedicure. It was the BEST one I have ever received. B took her time and was very thorough. I get very bad ingrowns on my toe nails and they become very painful if not dealt with. She knew exactly how to cut the nails to relieve the pain. Others have just cut the big toes but she did all of them. I was shocked how much she focused on them to help me. The foot massage she gave me was also amazing and she did it for a decent amount of time. For the price and the service I received today, I will recommend this nail salon to everyone I know. I've been going here for 3 years, and it's the BEST nail salon. They're patient, they just got a bunch of new gel polishes so their color selection is pretty good. Also, you cannot beat the price for what they charge. I usually just get gel polish and removal which is about $30-ish with tip. And a gel manicure with removal is about $40-ish with tip. I've never seen a nail salon with such good prices for their services. Gel removal is only $5... the lowest I've seen at other salons is $7. Also when they remove the polish they're very gentle to make sure you don't mess up your nail bed. I got gel from them twice a month for 11 months straight and I was perfectly fine. I don't normally write reviews, unless it's absolutely excellent or absolutely terrible. Please do not go here. There were only two people who worked there. They were kind and clean. But everything else, good lordy.. It was run down, in how they had to fiddle with wiring for the curing lights, the seats were uncomfortable. It was dimly lit. Pedicure: The polish was old. Didn't get my callouses off or cut and shape my toe nails very well. The polish is messy around my cuticles, and it does not reach the sides of my nails.(They didn't cause the cut, I accidently ran a door over my toes, and it scraped along my big toe and bruised me a bit) Manicure: jfc what a disaster. If you want something super simple and are okay with imperfect polish then come here. Otherwise Don't.. anyways, I wanted a short stiletto. Dude didn't know how to do it, tried to give me a regular stiletto instead. I told him my pointer finger nails are a bit crooked, but with the correct filing, it looks like they're not. He couldn't do that either. I asked him to make my stiletto short again after he ignored/didn't hear/forgot my request. He clipped the tips off and started filing to a point. But didn't actually make a point as they were still flat at the tips when he was "done". I showed him how they were still flat and he somehow didn't see how they were flat, and showed them in the light and said I don't see what you're talking about. And so I asked can I see the file please? I had to attempt to fix my nails. I was able to fix the tips. However the sides I couldn't fix. As shown in pictures, my pointer fingers are crooked, one of my middle fingers is filed crookedly. The paint is messy around my cuticles and doesn't reach the sides of multiple nails. There are jagged edges of acrylic+gel+natural nail. One was so bad I had to clip the jaggedness when I got home. It's still not great though. It's just all bad. And to top it all off, dude didn't even fully cure my nails, so now certain nails/certain places aren't smooth to the touch, they're bumpy. Oh and btw, they didn't have the ability to properly do a basic flesh tone to green ombre nail. That's what I originally wanted. Said something about not having the color green in dip powder. I've gotten ombre before, they put paint in one of those mini paint/liquid makeup sprayer things. So I suggested red since they didn't have green. They tried to give me pink instead. Dude put pink dip powder in this little perfume like thing that he squeezed to make it go on my nail. Didn't even say they didn't have red, just tried to see if I would want pink by putting it on me. So I have mixed feelings about this place. I will start off by saying it's awesome for the price and the people are very nice. Minh is even there painting the nails himself. I went in for graduation nails and the place is a bit dirty and they kinda just shake the nail dust off before seating you. I did ask for a very complicated design, and they did an excellent job. I then went back later to get gel nails and they were nicely painted. My only complaint is that my nails weren't soaked and they didn't remove my cuticles or apply any lotion before painting my nails. They simply removed the old acrylics and threw the paint on top of my nails. But again, the people were nice and the nails will come out looking great, just don't expect to be pampered. read more

Came here last minute to get my nails done before prom (I didn't make an appointment or anything). I didn't have to wait very long and everyone was super nice! I just got a simple manicure with my own polish from home and it turned out great despite my nails being super short and hard to work with. The lady who did my nails told me to be really careful because they weren't gel or anything but it's been three days now and they haven't chipped at all and still look great. I was in town for a wedding and needed a manicure. I scheduled with Minh who provided a very nice, natural manicure as I had requested. He took his time to safely remove my gel and made recommendations to maintain the health/integrity of my nails, which I really appreciated. read more

I had booked a last minute appointment for a full acrylic set. The person doing them was a middle aged man with glasses and I do not reccommend booking with this person. He dumped the acrylic liquid that he used on my nails back into the orginal bottle. He cut my cuticles a couple times which I usually don't mind but I felt their practices were unhygenic and I didn't want to ge an infection. When I let him know, he was telling me I was sensitive. He then pushed the file against his skin saying," look its not going to cut you!" and then two seconds later my cuticle was bleeding. He then gave me a rectangle shape and when the picture I showed him was a coffin shape. Then he got flustered and said that's not what I told him. He kept saying, "I'm tired, I'm tired of this," like I was being difficult. The entire time he was also squeezing my hand and digging his nails into my skin (which had dirt under them). He got more frustrated saying, "I'm tired of this" and he was talking to the other workers about me and they proceeded to laugh. I decided to leave because not only were the employees unprofessional, the place was unhygenic, but my nails were also not shaped correctly and the acryclic paste was plastered on leaving my nails looking chunky. I paid for whatever they had done but went somewhere else to reshape the nails and do the design. I do not recommend this place and especially this nail artist. read more

I don't think acrylic nails can get much better unless you want those crazy nails with tons of decorations glued on them. I say, "No thanks, kinda tacky IMO." I ventured out to Minhly's during my lunch break to get stiletto acrylics. I wanted to get them for fun and I used Yelp to inspect all the nail studios in town to see which one does the best acrylics. I was not disappointed. My nails looked pretty realistic, and now that I've had them done I can see they looked great compared to a lot of others I've noticed. I made a reservation the same morning and showed up at 3 pm because that was the soonest available. While I was there a few regulars dropped in; I could tell from the conversations and familiarity. Minh himself did my nails and the entire session took an hour and fifteen minutes or so. He was very nice. I would definitely return here to get my nails done. I pretty much always do my nails pale pink, and not many options were available though, so it could be a good idea to bring in your own polish if you have a particular color preference. I paid $30. I only haven't returned because I'm on the computer basically all day so the nails make it difficult. read more

My friends constantly recommended this place so I finally gave it a try. I went on a Monday afternoon and it was empty so they were able to help me right away. My experience from start to finish was fantastic. For the first time in my life, none of the staff spoke in a different language in front of me, usually leaving me insecure and uncomfortable. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the beauty of another language as much as the next guy, but not when I get the feeling that it's being used to criticize my cuticles. In fact, every person working there was making conversation with and focusing on their customer! Unheard of, I know, so kudos to you Mihnly. I always only get gel ($21 including removal of old gel!) and they did one of the better jobs I've seen. This is my go to place for acrylics! They take the time and their impeccable attention to detail, you cannot get anywhere else. The customer service and their work is on point. Amy took the time to listen to what I wanted and how I wanted my nails to be shaped. I told her I wanted them on the shorter side since I type a lot and took the time to shape them to the rounded square shape that I had envisioned. I felt comfortable at this nail salon, unlike other places they attempt to rip you off and do not take pride in their work.
