Well, I hate doing two star reviews. This was definitely a night. I won't soon forget. When we arrived, parking was horrible. The pay parking lot for Minglewood Hall was completely full. The pay lots all around minglewood hall were also full. We drove two blocks in each direction and was having trouble trying to find somewhere to park. We finally seen other people parking at a closed Baskin And Robbins, one street over. We didn't see any no parking signs. This was gonna be our only option. By the time we got parked and in line. It was getting very close to show time. There was a line out the door and it was moving very slow. They were having trouble scanning tickets. Their scanners were not working, so they were sending people to a window, to get paper tickets. We finally got in and seated. The show obviously started a little late. I have only been to Minglewood Hall one other time and my experience then was also less than stellar. The seating was just fold up chairs. They were so uncomfortable! A tallboy beer was $12! My son and I both love Brad Williams. I figured it would be a great to spend some time with him and see a good show. Although Brad Williams and his openers were great! This would turn out to be quite a bad night for us. When the show was over, we headed out to where we had parked. As we were getting close to the car, we seen about 20 other people. They were just standing aroung in the cold looking confused. At that point, we realized all the cars had been towed. In my opinion, this is why people don't come to Memphis for shows or anything. Way to much greed! The parking always sucks! Come to find out PB & J towing sits around the corner and waits on everyone to enter the show. Then they start towing people. If you do a quick search for them on here, you will see that they are very predatory in their practice. They have been sued and reprimanded by the BBB. I'm not sure how a place like this continues to do business in Memphis. That will be for another upcoming review. I know this is not completely Minglewood Hall's fault. But if you know, you don't have enough parking for the amount of sold tickets. You should try to work with your neighbors or warn people. I mean, come on, it was a Sunday night! The Baskin-Robbins was closed. We looked around and finally seen two very small signs on the other side of the lot that just said PB & J towing with a number. When you call the number, it just goes to a voicemail or disconnects. They are closed on Sundays! We had to Uber all the way back to Southaven, Mississippi. The Uber driver told us this is a every weekend thing. He picks people up all the time from PB&J towing in this area. Needless to say, I won't be going back to Minglewood Hall for anything. Decent concert venue that provides enough space for a good amount of people and has good sound. A lot better than the smaller venue in the same "plaza"/building though. I purchased "seated" tickets though and there were no seats, so I'm not sure what that's about. During big shows at least, they do charge for parking and it's like $20, which I think is a bit much, but whatever. We had 2 back to back concerts here in a single week and enjoyed it, but wish we could have had some sort of seating since we paid for "seated tickets" because my husband had a back injury so I paid extra for "seats". read more

If you're looking for a decent dive bar, this is it! I popped in for a special event, a crawfish boil (I don't recommend it), hosted by the MAS (Memphis Art Salon). The space is large. Plenty of room for dancing during live performances and sitting if you want to chill with friends. Not sure if food is sold here, didn't see a menu. Drinks are standard bar offerings, beer and mixed drinks in a plastic cup with a straw. Nothing fancy. Come here for local bands and entertainment away from the crowds and hustle of downtown Memphis. read more

This venue used to be great! It is really going down now. There's nothing open in there except one bar and the venue. The parking is AWEFUL! They do not have adequate parking for ANY events and do nothing to try to solve the problem. People are being towed every time there is an event due to the shady tow dealers around that area. They need to do better or this venue won't be around long-term. Very sad. I used to enjoy going to things there. read more

This is my 3rd time visiting the Minglewood Hall and each time has been a delight. This is a multi-use venue. I visited once with a friend who was getting a piercing, once for a play (Down on Beale Street), and last night for a listening party. All events were in different areas. Last night's area was a bit of a surprise. I never knew of the room that it was hosted in, but it is nice. The venue is located in the heart of Midtown. It has adequate parking and space. Most concerts are stand-up so be prepared for that. Overall, the space is clean and the staff is friendly. Last night, I attended a Listening Party for Zii and it was wonderful! I had to select a Star - so I gave it 1. ADA policy is discriminatory, laughable at best. ADA policy should read: "ADA access - ask at the door, we might help, we might not!" We drove from out of town for a show here last weekend. It was our first visit to this venue and the city of Memphis. Prior to buying our tickets, I looked on the venue's website about ADA access as I am disabled and unable to stand for an entire show. Website is vague so I reached out directly to the venue and was assured "needs would be met upon arrival". I know with my local venues, these ADSA compliant seats are in limited supply. So we arrived at doors time to ensure we did not miss out. Upon arrival, I asked the venue staff about ADA access. I was told by the ticket checker guy to talk to someone inside, that it would be taken care of. There was a guy standing behind him at the door that pointed to a couple of chairs outside the door, he told me to "take one." I said "what about companion seating?" He barked the word "ONE." While holding up his index finger.so I hobbled away, dragging this one lone chair to find myself a suitable spot for the show. We dragged this chair thru a merch purchase, and then around the venue, looking for good spot. No one once asked what we were doing or offered us any assistance. We then took turn babysitting our chair while we bought beverages, used the restroom, etc. as it was the only one we could see in the entire venue except for those in the soundboard area... About 45 minutes later, we noticed an entire row of tables had been set up along the curtain wall. Several cocktail style table with chairs, with patrons seated. Then a sober support group table with 4 chairs and next to them, a large round table with 1 person sitting at it, surrounded by chairs with the universal ADA symbol on the table. I walked up and asked the one woman seated there if this was the ADA area... she said "Yes, it is." I explained my situation and asked if my wife and I could join her... she said "Yes, sure!". So door staff deemed I was not worthy of their ADA access. I've been to hundreds of concerts in my life and used many venues - I've NEVER been told by venue staff "here's your chair, take it with you and watch it all night if you want it." Policy should be revised to allow for in advance reservations, so ADA worthiness isn't put on door staff. Yes - I should have gone up the chain of command immediately about the douche-bag at the door. But antagonizing venue staff an hour before show time doesn't bode well for one's evening. Tipping Policy: this may be standard procedure but I've not yet encountered this. upon inspection of one of my payment receipts, I could see they factored in a 20% gratuity on a single drink purchase without telling me. Then - they prompted me to tip AGAIN on the total bill which already included the 20%! I'm sorry but I will tip once, maybe twice on single drink purchases then I'm done for the night unless the service is exceptional. At $14 a drink, the venue can pay afford to pay their people appropriately without double-dipping patrons. Whether it's normal or not - this is just shady business practice. Pros (yes there are some): Venue was nice, clean, sound was good. The people of the city of Memphis are some of the kindest, nicest people we've encountered. We'll back. But hopefully not for a visit to Minglewood Hall. read more

From V3 (MMA fights) and concerts to see Minglewood Hall is Midtown's Premier venue. with tons of parking available so you don't have to walk a long distance to get to the venue unlike downtown. Minglewood Hall offers the best line up in Concerts and Events. I came here Nov 30th with the girlfriend for the Justin Moore Sister Hazel concert. We enjoyed ourselves despite there wasn't any indoor seating standing room only. But as far as the lighting it was set up perfect. We were able to get great video of our friend & classmate Justin Moore as performed songs from his new country album & Ingram Hill classics. compared to other concert venues Minglewood Hall has an excellent sound system along with the acoustics delivering you the best in sound. Offering concert-goers a wonderful experience. When it came to the menu I wasn't feeling the selection that night. I found it quite limiting. Their beer prices are quite expensive. If you're looking for a night of drinking I suggest drinking at the bars close by before or after the show. After my 1st concert-going experience I would say I really enjoyed it so much. Nice big concert venue, and enjoyed the acoustics of the show I saw here. Would say that the entrance was lacking some in security, no one checked my small bag, and that made me feel a bit nervous inside. There are bars beside the stage and a larger bar with a wall of posters in another room outside of the main concert hall. The side bar with the posters had good beer and wine selections and you could get snack type food there. The two bartenders in the side bar seemed very unenthusiastic and swamped, but they eventually took my order. They seemed to keep taking the orders of people standing behind me. It was weird, but whatever. Maybe the place is full of locals. The show and the sound were very good. The venue could be a little safer and maybe they need a few more bartenders for busy nights. The bathroom was big and clean, so bonus for that. read more

Great Venue!!! I can't wait to see another show here! I saw Manson here and I was impressed by the sound in the place. It sounded great! The lighting was good too but that could have been the bands set up. The best thing that this place has going for it is the bathrooms! It was a sold out show and I didn't once have to wait to pee. Kudos to the brilliant people that designed this place! I hate having to wait to pee! There are only four toilets in the entire Mud Island Amphitheater! There also seemed to be the appropriate ratio of "bars to drunken people" and I didn't ever have to wait for more than a couple minutes to get refreshments. I like that! They had a little patio for the smoking kind and it was well used. I appreciate the fact that I did not have to breath in the smoke of others while there. I also appreciate the fact it was letting in some cooler air. On to my gripe... My only issue was it was about 55 degrees outside and 219 degrees inside. Cool venue for concerts in the heart of midtown. It's amazing how many artists have played here in its short time of existence. Loved the massive wall in the bar area that displays the posters of most (if not all) of the acts that have played there. The concert arena can be sized for large or small [intimate crowds]. Adequate and (seemingly) ever expanding parking. The building is huge and I love the East side entrance. Has that 'walking-the-city-streets- indoors' vibe. Could be developed some more. Maybe in time. Neon and lighting and the huge guitar in the parking lot are nice aesthetic touches. I've only attended a non musical event here so far but hope to attend a concert soon. read more

I came here for the Night Vale show and it was just so cool. I haven't been to other venues so I can't really compare it to anything. I was worried they would only sell beer but was pleasantly surprised that they sold a little bit of food. It takes a bit to cook it so you basically get your ticket then come back once it's been cooked, but that's fine with me. The fries were awesome though I couldn't finish the buffalo wings because they were just nope. The place itself was large, with nice lighting and sound system. The speakers looked huge and I was a tad nervous that I ended up sitting right in front of one of them because I have sensitive ears. But these didn't hurt me at all. A band opened up Night Vale and had some issues with their sound board but they still sounded pretty cool to me. I had a lot of fun listening to both them and the show I had come to see. Minglewood Hall is an events venue in Memphis that hosts musical acts and more. MH used to be a bread factory which explains the industrial, warehouse feel of it with multiple rooms. MH is one of the more unique venues I've been to, but in a positive way. Normally I would say what would be better than a bread factory but MH makes the cut. We came for the day for a block party with multiple bands which was right outside MH with multiple stands for vendors. MH was open for drinks, an photo exhibition and just for hanging out. We saw bands like Lucero and the Turnpike Troubadours for the block party and it was a blast. The bartenders were really nice and their prices aren't bad for beer. They sell a local beer from Wiseacre Brewing Co. called Memphis Sands that was great. Bathrooms were clean as was the venue. We parked across the street in a lot which was free the night we came. They are doing an awesome job and I would certainly return to see other acts! Fun atmosphere, nice staff and the event we went to was great. read more

Minglewood Hall is such a cool place to see concerts, definitely one of my favorite venues in Memphis.

I've worked with a lot of venues...I'm an event planner after all. But I have to say that Paula Davis is the best person in the world to work with. She makes planning your event easy peasy and that goes a long way. The last thing you need is someone who gives you a headache when you're super stressed about everything going off without a hitch! And she is a breath of fresh air - so nice and friendly! Aside from being a pleasure to work with, Minglewood is the only venue in town that has ample parking (at least in midtown...and I can't think of any place in downtown with a ton of parking). Memphians knows this goes a long way...the last thing I want to do is walk for miles in 5 inch heels. AND they also know how to properly air condition a place! This is a necessity in the sweltering southern heat. Oh, and they have a really awesome and eclectic range of events (concerts, art shows, dances). I've seen their space during so many different types of events and I'm always blown away thinking, "Is this the same space?" They have tables and chairs you can rent, but I love that it is sort of a "raw space" allowing you to transform it to whatever your little heart desires. I'm also a fan of their hookah bar, Oasis. I haven't been in awhile but it is definitely a fun, different place for a night out. read more

I have a love-hate relationship with Minglewood. The pros: 1) It seems the owners spared no expense in creating a sleek venue with all the bells and whistles. The lighting, sound, and technology are as good as any I've seen in any non-arena setting. And curtains are in place so the room can be enlarged/constricted based on ticket sales, which keeps smaller shows more intimate. As an understatement, the facility is impressive. 2) The shows always start and finish (11:00-ish?) at a reasonable hour for those aging rockers among us who want to catch a weeknight show without being a zombie for 2-3 days at work (I'm looking at you, Hi Tone). Not necessarily speaking from experience, of course, that's just what I hear... 3) MW is a modern retooling of a fantastic old building with tons of character, the kind that Memphis landlords have historically been too willing to doze. And they even kept those massive metal guitars that Strings N Things put up. High fives to someone! 4) Finally, I rarely notice bathrooms, but the dudes' room is larger than the ones at FedEx Forum and eerily clean. I bet the ladies' is even nicer. Of course, I'll concede that the prisoner-of-war-esque closets that serve as restrooms at some venues around town do have a certain charm, so this could be a pro or con, depending on your toilet tastes. See my con #1. The cons: 1) The place feels corporate to the core, from the slick lights to the meager beer selection. MW strikes me as contrived and sterile to the point of being soulless. Whereas the building oozes history and character, the performance space is all concrete and shimmer. I've had band crews echo my feelings. 2) I've (occasionally) seen Minglewood install barriers and security staff to push the crowd off the stage, which is absolutely ridiculous. Madonna is not playing here, folks. The stage is five feet tall, but you still need additional security measures? I'm personally insulted by that. 3) The ticket prices are prohibitively high - generally 2x-plus the price at the bar venues. I realize you probably sank mid-five figures into your lighting, but I will not pay these prices to check out unfamiliar bands on a whim. I've never seen a show at MW for less than $20, I don't think, and many are pushing $30 or more. Every band I've seen here, I probably own 60% of their catalog, and I'm invested in them emotionally and financially. 4) No food is available that I remember, certainly nothing I would consider buying - unlike other places. Summary: I appreciate the opportunities to see some great artists at MW that I can't imagine playing anywhere else in Memphis: Built to Spill, Interpol, St. Vincent, etc. Mid-size venues in Memphis are incredibly limited, and it seems that bands grow beyond the Hi Tone or New Daisy level and never come back unless they're booked at Beale St. Music Fest. Also, I'm absolutely convinced that the earlier starting times at the Hi Tone over the last year or so are directly attributable to Minglewood, and I'm thankful for that. At the same time, I'm one of those fans who wants to experience my favorite bands up close, and Minglewood is grossly lacking in intimacy. Of the bands that I've seen at multiple venues (e.g., Neko Case, Dinosaur Jr., MGMT, MUTEMATH), my experience is that the Minglewood shows invariably leave me achingly unfulfilled. read more

A really cool venue that hosts concerts and has a hookah lounge, a tattoo shop, a bar and even a workout session. I have seen Lauryn Hill and Marilyn Manson here! Both shows were great. The security has had to step in a few times and they do a very good job of handling problems or diffusing situations. read more

This outlet is the kind of gritty that takes me back to art school- smoking in the breezeway, sitting on filthy floors, and colorful tattoos. Depending on the artist or show, the venue is set up differently. The bar closes during the shows. Parking has recently become expensive, with a $10 fee EVEN FOR ACROSS THE STREET, which is absurd for the location. Still, pretty much everyone who works here is pleasant to deal with or at least has a sense of humor. What I love about this place is the artists who visit. Keep them on your radar, and get on the email list. Don't be that guy who misses Craig Ferguson or W. Kamau Bell! read more

This is easily my favourite music venue in the city. It's fantastic with a great vibe to it. The employees are always nice, and a bonus? They have so much parking. Free parking, at that. Not something that's easy to find at a lot of music venues. The crowds that come to these shows are way better than at most venues, no loud and obnoxious people. Plus, the venue itself allows for an intimate setting, whether you're at the main stage or the smaller one off to the side. Either way, you have the opportunity to be right at the front of the stage, and in either one there's also seats in case you don't want to stand. The acoustics are great, there's no echo or anything like in some venues in town. Another bonus...it's nice and cool inside. It's great especially in the summer, you're not dying of heat, whether you're waiting in line for the doors to open or during the concert itself, once the stage lights come on. read more

Minglewood Hall is great compared with other Memphis venues. It's not as sweltering inside (even when packed, in August) as other places I've been. Sound, lights, stage all great; we saw DJ Mary Jane and The Crystal Method, so I'm sure that helped. You can get a good view of the performance from standing just about anywhere, and there are some private booths on a second floor that have an excellent line of sight. It's a small enough space that you can feel connected to the performer without being so small that you feel stifled in a crowd. I like the way the interior is set up a lot more than the New Daisy. The building that Minglewood is in has a lot of character. As you come up to the venue entrance through the interior halls, you see exposed rafters, old skylights, lots of brickwork, shopfronts that look like they should face outdoors. There are some other businesses in there, like Oasis (membership smoking club), a large bay undergoing some renovation (something moving in? or out?), and the 1884 Lounge connected to the main Minglewood venue. I like the stained & polished concrete floors inside the main venue. They add a nice touch. All-in-all, it's a great venue, and I highly recommend it. read more

So with all the concerts I photograph, I am continually being asked about my favorite venues. I have to say #Memphis has a lot of incredible places to catch a gig. However, I find that I love the intimacy that Minglewood Hall offers. The room is dark, the stage has a sound I love and the lights are great. You are flanked on both sides by two large bars, and a great outdoor area. The staff and the security teams are second to none...from the stage to the parking lot, I have alway felt safe. I was lucky enough to photograph the St. Paul and the Broken Bones gig last night, and decided to walk around and take some shots showing you that there is not a bad spot in the house (and I'm a short guy). This is a great little venue for live music in the heart of Midtown Memphis! The space inside, where the stage is, is HUGE and expansive. There is a bar inside, which is also quite large so hopefully you won't be in line too long for a drink. The drinks here are pretty pricey. I'm not sure you can find anything less than $8, except maybe a Miller Lite. They offer an okay variety of beers and well drinks. The bar isn't very impressive and I haven't found the bartenders particularly friendly, but I bet working behind a bar during a loud concert isn't very fun so I try to be forgiving! There is a large patio space where you can step outside if it gets too hot inside. Don't plan on setting out for fresh air though, because this is where all the smokers hang out. The venue is neat though! The stage is really wide, so lots of people can be standing in that space right in front of the stage! The room is huuuuge. Tons of people can fit in there. In front of the stage is standing room only, but along the back wall there are some tables and chairs you can grab a seat in if you get to tired. There are several bathrooms inside the space and they're really large with lots of stalls, which is necessary during a concert! read more

My daughter has been to several shows at Minglewood, and has mentioned to me what a nice venue it is for concerts. I finally got to check it out myself this summer when I went with her to see Third Eye Blind when they came to town. I was really impressed with whole place. It was very clean and they were well staffed to handle the crowd. We didn't have to wait in line any time all, and there were plenty of people working the bar so the lines went quickly there as well. Same thing with the bathrooms. And the sound was good - nice and loud and clear - just the way you want it to be at a concert. The space was large and open and you could see the stage clearly from just about anywhere in the room. They don't allow smoking inside, so no smokey-chokey barroom feel to it, which was also nice. They do have a smoking porch with benches outside. I definitely look forward to seeing future shows here. read more

B-sides, a bar and music venue inside Minglewood, is offering another prime example tonight of what I keep seeing and saying: A lot more good music in Memphis than audience to enjoy it! Where are you people? Glued to your TVs or crowded around the beer taps at bars that don't deserve the audience this place does, especially with talent like the Mighty Souls Brass Band playing to a dozen people tonight. This is a very cool venue and and the guys are putting out some great jazz here. A bit bigger crowd (still the wrong word) for a hard rock band earlier, but the Mighty Souls deserve better. Minglewood Hall is a local venue that I recently discovered here in the Memphis area. It is a large venue that attracts a wide variety of musicians. A couple days ago, the girlfriend and I went to see Ingram Hill and Sister Hazel. Again, the venue is a spacious and the acoustics are very good. There really isn't a bad spot to view a concert in here, as the artists on stage are quite visible. They also provide seating in a small area, but you need to get there early to take advantage. They also have clean restroom facilities with plenty of stalls which is nice. On the negative end of things, I called the box office several times, but never got an answer. It would have been nice to speak to someone before driving down there to get tickets. Also, they did not accept card for drinks. Lastly, they only had one drinking fountain and it was not functional.
