My wife and I waiting for the show.

I've been in Memphis for 26+ years and I had never been to the Shell! My wife and I went to see Morgan James who was performing as part of Overton Park's Summer free concert series. We'd seen Morgan back in March at the Green Room so there was no way we were going to miss her in October at such a cool venue! Our only mistake was sitting down front. While you get a nice, close-up view of the performers, there is the problem of the concrete area in front of the stage. People tend to congregate there, which is very distracting and at times out right blocks your view. We will absolutely see another show there but we will setup further up the hill. Make sure you take some lawn chairs with you and we found the low beach kind really comfortable.

Love the free concert series here!! The vibes are always so good and fun! I usually come with friends. We bring lawn chairs or picnic blankets and some snacks and drinks! It's a really fun way to spend a summer evening. It's also pet friendly! They usually have food trucks and now they have built a really nice bar! Restrooms are also nearby and clean! Great little music venue...started with Friday night Opera Memphis -30 days of Opera...rather warm but do-able..not too crowded...beach chair seating after a hard week of work...arias, pops, and some creative twists ending with a creative rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody...loved it! Reminds me of a mini- Hollywood Bowl!! Returned Saturday night for The Dip from Seattle with friends, a cooler, turkey-feta sliders, champaigne, my trusty beach chair ...it was a hot-humid Memphis evening... great band, company and eats but the heat was uncomfortable and doesnt mix well with alcohol...kind of a drag for me...i cannot imagine sitting there during their "peak" season in the true summer! Not for the faint of heart!

We saw The Dip play at the half shell. The shell has been around since 1936. In 1954 Elvis took the stage it what has been listed as the first ever rock and roll show. Check it out if you get a chance.

Great outdoor venue. Perfect for families, friends and date nights. Clear viewpoint of stage regardless of seating area. They hosts events from all genres.

Well, I hate doing two star reviews. This was definitely a night. I won't soon forget. When we…read morearrived, parking was horrible. The pay parking lot for Minglewood Hall was completely full. The pay lots all around minglewood hall were also full. We drove two blocks in each direction and was having trouble trying to find somewhere to park. We finally seen other people parking at a closed Baskin And Robbins, one street over. We didn't see any no parking signs. This was gonna be our only option. By the time we got parked and in line. It was getting very close to show time. There was a line out the door and it was moving very slow. They were having trouble scanning tickets. Their scanners were not working, so they were sending people to a window, to get paper tickets. We finally got in and seated. The show obviously started a little late. I have only been to Minglewood Hall one other time and my experience then was also less than stellar. The seating was just fold up chairs. They were so uncomfortable! A tallboy beer was $12! My son and I both love Brad Williams. I figured it would be a great to spend some time with him and see a good show. Although Brad Williams and his openers were great! This would turn out to be quite a bad night for us. When the show was over, we headed out to where we had parked. As we were getting close to the car, we seen about 20 other people. They were just standing aroung in the cold looking confused. At that point, we realized all the cars had been towed. In my opinion, this is why people don't come to Memphis for shows or anything. Way to much greed! The parking always sucks! Come to find out PB & J towing sits around the corner and waits on everyone to enter the show. Then they start towing people. If you do a quick search for them on here, you will see that they are very predatory in their practice. They have been sued and reprimanded by the BBB. I'm not sure how a place like this continues to do business in Memphis. That will be for another upcoming review. I know this is not completely Minglewood Hall's fault. But if you know, you don't have enough parking for the amount of sold tickets. You should try to work with your neighbors or warn people. I mean, come on, it was a Sunday night! The Baskin-Robbins was closed. We looked around and finally seen two very small signs on the other side of the lot that just said PB & J towing with a number. When you call the number, it just goes to a voicemail or disconnects. They are closed on Sundays! We had to Uber all the way back to Southaven, Mississippi. The Uber driver told us this is a every weekend thing. He picks people up all the time from PB&J towing in this area. Needless to say, I won't be going back to Minglewood Hall for anything. This ended up being a very expensive night!

I purchased "seated" tickets though and there were no seats, so I'm not sure what that's about. During big shows at least, they do charge for parking and it's like $20, which I think is a bit much, but whatever. We had 2 back to back concerts here in a single week and enjoyed it, but wish we could have had some sort of seating since we paid for "seated tickets" because my husband had a back injury so I paid extra for "seats".

Not loud but a comfortable volume where you can listen to it and still hear the people at your table talk. The music choice was excellent. Had customers dancing in their seats. Old school soul funk Motown sound. You know Stevie Wonder, Donna Summer, Rick James, Gap Band, etc. Perfect for the atmosphere. I absolutely loved the lamp posts.
