I stopped for a lunch break at Ming Cheng on Pleasant Street, just south of the downtown area. Ming Cheng serves up the standard Chinese dishes, appetizers, and chef's specialties for takeout or dine-in. The prices here are pretty good, most items are priced under $11 with a few special dishes $11.05-$13.75. 25 Daily Combination Platters served with choice of rice and choice of one appetizer are offered for lunch ($5.55-$6.15) and dinner (after 3PM $7.45-$8.05). This is the typical order at the counter Chinese restaurant with self serve booth seating for eating in. The temperature in the dining/waiting area was on the very warm side. The kitchen area is not open, but visible through the revolving door. For takeout, I ordered the Lunch Combo 4: Shrimp Lo Mein with Pork Fried Rice and 2 Chicken Teriyakis. The food was ready in under 10 minutes. The portion of food was a good amount. The lo mein noodles (light yellow) were soft and slightly overdone which had minimal vegetables (carrot & cabbage) and tender soft shrimp (cleaned). The lo mein dish had an unusual sweet taste. The pork fried rice (light tan) was decent, which had a mix of soft firm rice, egg, and tender roast pork cubes. The chicken teriyaki sticks were sweet tasting on the outside and the boneless chicken was chewy consisting of some yellow chicken fat, which I needed to trim off before eating. Overall, the lunch was filling, the price was reasonable (for lunch), and fairly decent and not bad. I may be back in here for lunch. NOTE: No checks accepted, but they accept MC and Visa. read more

I go here relatively often, more than I go anywhere else aside from Taco Bell when I need a quick meal. I usually get the same thing, General Tso's Chicken with Pork Fried Rice and two Chicken Teriyaki sticks. I've seen a lot of people complaining about the Chicken on here, so I'm going to put my two cents in. As someone that gets it regularly I quite enjoy it, the sauce is definitely thicker than a lot of other places but it doesn't really bother me that much, it still tastes great! As for the Pork Fried Rice, overall it's got good flavor, can be a little dry from time to time and usually color wise it looks pretty dull but definitely a good option if you're not a fan of white rice. The Chicken Teriyaki is consistently good, it's always tender, moist and flavorful. Overall, although I'm not familiar with all of their food I'd definitely recommend going and trying it yourself! read more

Very disappointed with the quality of food. Rice was undercooked, lo mein mushy and had no favor. Chicken teriyaki was undercooked and tasted like plain chicken on a stick. Hot soup melted the Styrofoam tray which caused everything inside to fall into the bag. Soup tasted burn and was thrown out. Okay so they sell us Tso's chicken that is so gummy you got to add a cup of water to dilute that mess on Friday night. Well tonight we order some food and get home and we get one order of spring rolls after ordering two. WOW so back goes hubby to get the other order. Oh yes and of course there's no duck sauce.... I am a long time customer always order a large amount of food, either they are not delivering or not taking a credit card. Placed a 100.00 order was told they will not take my card, I go down there to give card for this order .I ask why they are no longer taking cards was told by the owners children not taking cards for this order only , ask to speak to some, oh no one is here to talk to. They are the best in the Area, Unlike The Imperial who recycles their food off of peoples plates, Ming Cheng cooks to order and it quick. Food is Great, Would recommend them to all my friends and family. It's a family restaurant who unlike big chain places actually cares about their customers. Their Delivery is on and off but they're in a good location with a good enough parking area so it doesn't matter to go to them. The prices are unbeatabley LOW... I know people's past reviews are ehh to WTF, But thats because they're on high horses and think everyone should be a 5 star michelin Restaurant like big cities but this is Claremont, So they are to me the best in Sullivan County. Ming Cheng is our go to for Chinese food in the Claremont area. My favorite is their dumplings. We usually order the General Tso's chicken, Hunan chicken, crab rangoon, and egg roll as well. If you like any spice, I recommend ordering the extra spciy as even that is still pretty mild. They are takeout only due to COVID and you wait in your car until they call you to the window. read more

My hubby and I have lived in a lot of places and Chinese takeout is one of our favorite dinner options every couple months (or more if the food is good). We got the hunan chicken, house lo mein and egg rolls and everything was just sub-par. Rating it to the other Chinese restaurants we've ordered from, taste-wise this is bottom 3. The noodles were a little too thick for my liking, egg rolls were kind of dull, and the hunan chicken had no heat to it...sauce was blah, too. Overall, I would say your chances of getting good Chinese food in Claremont are slim to none. There are better options. read more

For take out this place is good!! The dining area was freezing at recent visit!! Delivery is local but, takes a super long time to arrive even 2/3 miles away! The chicken fingers are one of the best I have had never over cooked and the duck/sweet n sour sauce was way different then the typical red sauce! But for the most part the food is good!! Don't order delivery from them; read on to see why. I've eaten from here five or six times. The food is pretty good and well-priced, especially if you're getting a lunch combo. I've never stayed to eat, because the atmosphere isn't much better than an Exxon gas station, which is what the building used to be. However, that food quality is pretty hit-and-miss; half of the time, it was clearly leftovers, and disappointing, not to mention gross. And why are children handling my cash and cards? Is that even legal? Now, you can get delivery from here, which is rare for the area, but it's not worth it. This was appealing to me when I wanted to eat at work without leaving the building or bringing food from home. The business I work at is no more than ten minutes away from this restaurant; so why would it take them an hour and a half for a simple delivery? I'll tell you: I work in a retail establishment, and the delivery man always uses my orders as an opportunity to shop around for fifteen minutes or so, like that'll make up for repeated bad experiences. Either I'm on the bottom of their priority list because it's their shopping time, or they stop everywhere else long enough for my food to get cold. To decrease the wait time to 45 minutes the next time, I had to threaten not to pay, and they got to me in EXACTLY 45 minutes. If you call and pick up, it only takes fifteen minutes. agree with other posters on hit or miss. they don't honor their open time schedule, food could be good or terrible, and an 8 year old cashes you out. WTF is up with that? the only thing they have going is that after the 6 Chinese places in town was slimmed down to 2, they are more geared to take out than the buffet place. take the extra 15 minutes and go to Newport take out, and go home much happier. the food comes out so steaming hot by the time you get home it will be just right. read more
