We had the Pu Pu platter, and everything was delicious and fresh tasting! They serve exotic drinks and I was craving a Scorpion. So glad we went despite some reviews to the contrary. Our experience exceeded our expectations. Had we not known what we wanted, the menu choices are expansive and reasonably priced we thought for the amount of food served. The food was not fresh at all. The Generals chicken was hard and dried out. The beef with pea pods had a sourish taste to it. The pork fried rice was a big clump of blah. The freshest thing of all was the Crab Rangoon from the Pu Pu Plater. The waiter gave us good service, the place was not busy at all and the food came out of the kitchen very fast...this is how you could tell is was not made fresh...not even that day. If you have a food allergy, verify what is in your meal. They charged us for food we cannot eat. My Wife has a celiac allergy and was looking forward to an Alaskan Roll, which at every sushi place we have ever gone to consists of: Salmon, Avocado, and sometimes cucumber. We were surprised to find that Sampan puts Imitation crab meat in their Alaskan Roll which has wheat and is not gluten free. After driving home, we realized it had imitation crab meat. I called in and explained the situation, expecting they would exchange for an Alaskan Roll without the crab meat, but they refused. They were seeking to charge me again. Sanpan serves consistently good Asian food with excellent service. They always have fun drink specials and except on Mondays they have two different sushi rolls of the day along with their regular sushi menu. They offer a mix of both Chinese food and Japanese food. Their servers are the hardest working I have ever seen in the food industry. There have been days when reopening after the pandemic, they only had one server working, and he or she would literally run to serve all the tables. Even though they were alone, you would've never known it unless you were paying attention, because they still provided excellent service. We have a few favorites. The BBQ duck is always delicious, house fried rice, spicy garlic edamame, happy family, and lo mein top the list for us. They also do a voracious take-out business, and during the pandemic, they were a lifesaver. read more

My mom and I ate here a few days ago. I admit the outside of the place could use a little scrubbing but inside it was very clean. They do serve sushi here and have a pretty good variety. I haven't been able to bring myself to try sushi though, so so can't tell you anything about it. We were greeted by a smiling hostess and waiter and were seated promptly. We ordered tea which was delivered while we pondered over the menu. The tea was hot and very good. We had arrived for an early lunch and we both ordered from the lunch specials. After asking the waiter a few questions about the menu I chose the chicken curry and my mom ordered the sczechan chicken. We both chose egg rolls as a side, along with pork fried rice. I also ordered a side of spring rolls so we could each have one. Our entire order for lunch was just a little over 20 dollars for both of us. Our waiter brought the food out soon after we had ordered. The portion size was perfect. The curry sauce was really good. It wasn't spicy although it had a picture of a chili on the menu to say it was, but the flavor did not disappoint. My mom enjoyed her meal as well. The spring rolls were really crispy and packed full. The egg rolls were very good too, but I personally liked the crunch of the spring rolls best. The music wasn't turned up super loud and we were able to converse without yelling at each other, which was nice. They do have a buffet dinner Tuesday nights. The menu is posted on Facebook. Currently it's 10.50 a person and for those who like sushi it is the feature of the night. I hope to go soon! Who knows, maybe I'll get brave and try the sushi. read more

I've been coming here for years and always plan a trip here for lunch when I'm in town. The waitstaff is always friendly, tables are always clean, tea is always perfectly brewed and hot -- and most importantly the food is always delicious!! While I recognize there might be limited Chinese food options in the area, I still wouldn't recommend Sampan based on my recent takeout experience from there. We called to order the luncheon special, but were told it's no longer available on Sundays, so we ordered a number of combo plates instead. Our first sign that something was wrong was when we couldn't tell whose combo was whose, despite having drastically different dishes. It's not a good sign if the pork roast egg foo young and chicken chow mein are indistinguishable. To say I was unimpressed with my food is an understatement. The chicken chow mein was an unappetizing color and lacked vegetables. The pork fried rice was dry. The egg rolls were soggy and I was confused by what was inside. Boy small things can make a difference. Ordered sesame chicken and asked if it would feed two, they said yes, and it does, the problem is that the amount of rice-which I asked if it was included and they said yes, fits into a 4 ounce glass with room to spare. It was about half enough for 1 person. Talk about being stingy in an item that has almost no cost. I have never seen a take out container so small. Just hard to believe that they provide 2 portions of an entrée and .5 portions of rice. Food was good, but without the rice it was marginal. Recently ordered boneless ribs and egg foo young. We have an garlic and onion allergy. My husband more,as in a trip to the hospital. When we got the meal home the ribs were made in garlic. We took the ribs back and they told us there is no garlic in the ribs which was wrong. They did not offer to give us another appetizer or refund our money. Highlights: Wonton Soup Lunch specials are super reasonable. Very quiet (if you're into that) Overall, this is a pretty good spot. I was very impressed with the selection they offer. We went for a midweek lunch. You could hear a pin drop it was so quiet in there. The decor is nothing spectacular, but I wasn't expecting much anyway. The service was great--no complaints. I have to say that the best part of the meal was the wonton soup. They really nailed the flavor. Lots of veggies and the broth was delicious. That made us very hopeful for the meal itself. They have really well-priced (as well as generously portioned) lunch specials. I got the sesame tofu, crab rangoon (3), and veggie lo mein (all part of the $6.95 lunch special). The sesame tofu wasn't crispy, so that was a bit disappointing. It's just as greasy as you would expect Chinese food to be, so although I wasn't disappointed I wasn't thrilled with a plate full (and I mean full) of greasy food, but again, if you're into that... The crab rangoon were my favorite part and delicious, although I do also wish I had had some dipping sauce for them. I ended up taking half the meal home and not eating the leftovers (feel terrible being wasteful, but I just didn't feel inspired by it enough to consume the rest). My wife and eat here about once a week, on average. Their service is always good and staff is cheerful. Food is great every time we order. Slight issue here and there. But, overall safe bet for Chinese Food. And, decent value. The Vegetable Tempura is always good. The Boneless Spare Ribs, one of my personal favorites. I usually get the Won Ton Soup here as well. Just wish they offered more than one size for soups. Where we live (Hillsborough, NH) has a very limited selection and variety, as far as restaurants go. We tried Mind Du down the street from here. Disappointed with that and would not recommend it or ever return. I would give this place a 4.5 star rating if possible. But, the outside is run down looking and could use some attention. Decided to try takeout at this place for the first time, given the recent good reviews, and it was a mistake! The interior looked nice, but I didn't stick around so I can't comment on the cleanliness or the service. I tried a couple of the sushi rolls (salmon and spicy salmon with cucumber). They weren't bad, but they weren't all that good either. The "spicy" version was essentially the same as the not spicy version, but with a few drops of hot sauce on top. But that was a risk anyway...what can you really expect in Hillsboro, NH? I got Scallion Pancakes which were good, and General Tso's Chicken, which tasted good, but was a bit soggy. When I opened the tiniest container of all, I was surprised to find the rice. Really...skimping on rice? The House Lo-Mein was disappointing. Lo-Mein is typically one of my favorites, but it was dry and a light gray color. It smelled a bit strange, but it did have an umami smell in there. It didn't have any richness to it, and the texture was sticky. Maybe I needed to add some type of sauce to it? But the worst of it all was the Spicy Calamari. I'm not sure what it really was, but it was disgusting. Maybe freezer-burned or spoiled...or not calamari at all. I'm sorry to say that this went straight into the trash. Not even the spicy peppers could cover up the strange smell or bad flavor. So...for about $50 plus tip, I got a little bit of good food, mostly food that wasn't quite right, plus some garbage. My review is a little dated so i gave a try again considering all the good reviews and was pleasantly surprised. We used to go to private school here, my brother's hand is in a painting still framed in the lobby area. This kind of looks like a trailer, on second thought i am almost positive this is a trailer. This will always be a sentimental place for me as i used to go in high school with big 8-12 groups of people and our friends waiting on us. Don't know about the drinks i have never tried but they do have some regulars that would tell me not too bad. The apetizer items are very legit, the dishes i am not as impressed with but they are very good on the apps especially chicken fingers and crabby's which i think really is what people in this area want anyway. The dishes are still good, sauces are good and what not but sometimes feel like the pieces of meat come off more like scraps especially when they do the buffet and the veggie to meat ratio is a little off to me. I just tried Sampan's sushi for the first time and had to review it because I am amazed I can get this quality of fish in Hillsboro for a very reasonable price. The presentation was nice for takeout and the cuts of sashimi were thick, fresh, and melt in your mouth tender. I was impressed, I haven't been to Sampan in over a year after not being impressed with the quality of the takeout food but am excited to try it again under new ownership. I've gone to this restaurant multiple times over the years, before and after it fell under new ownership, and as a whole this is my opinion: The sushi isn't very good. It lacks flavor, it's mushy, and it's something I'd expect from a convenience store. The fried rice is pretty dry and usually flavorless. I wouldn't get the General Tso's chicken--the chicken there is dry and kind of stringy. You'll end up chewing it for half your lifetime. A big issue though is getting food you didn't order. This happens over and over again and I've finally had it which is why I've decided it's a 1 star restaurant. I can understand when everything changed and they renovated the place, new people came in to run it, etc. But that was a while ago, and the issue remains: people are constantly getting food they didn't order. This includes not getting something they did order, getting something extra they didn't order, or getting something in lieu of something they ordered. We recently placed an order and we didn't get what my mum ordered. Instead, we got something with meat in a brown sauce. Since she's allergic to beef and pork, she couldn't risk eating it. This is what happens if you tell them they gave you the wrong item: You call. They apologize. They offer to give you what you actually ordered for free if you go back to the restaurant that night, most people don't do this because General Tso's Chicken isn't worth driving back out for. Sometimes they offer to write down your name and number so next time you're in you can pick it up for free. Again, not worth it. Here's what they should actually do: stop getting orders wrong. And here's what you can do: Make sure the hostess taking your order repeats your order back to you correctly. However, this happens with me and they're right, but the order is still wrong so I think it's whoever is packing the food that makes the mistakes. SO when you pick up your food, open the bag/s and make sure you have everything you ordered. It's the only way to make sure you're getting what you pay for. I know, this is a long review. But I've tried for years to find out why people keep coming back here and I just can't figure it out. So I'm done with this one-star restaurant. read more

The crab rangoon was okay... we bough a pupu platter for 4, the egg rolls were terrible, i didn't even try the shrimp (i was afraid), the chicken fingers were mediocre at best.....
