This store is very expensive, often selling items for twice as much as other stores. Their selection is also quite limited. However, their service is the worst. The employees are friendly when you buy things but returns are completely different. I went to return a defective power tool. I was denied a return because I didn't have the battery which was not included in the first place. Additionally, I've also seen many used items sold as new at Ace. Furthermore, Ace employees often act very knowledgeable as they give incorrect advice on what to purchase. While the employees seem friendly and enthusiastic, I would strongly recommend shopping elsewhere. read more

I go to Specialty Tool and Bolt in Goleta for fasteners, and they are only open M-F On several occasions after typical business hours or on the weekend, I have found the fasteners that I needed (or a reasonable substitution) at the Goleta Miner's Ace Store. I needed a torsion-spring recently and found an extension-spring that was wound in the right direction to serve as a torsion-spring and that enabled me to use my boat... Otherwise, I literally would have been dead in the water for a family gathering. This past Tuesday I needed several stainless #6 lock nuts... Home Depot had none and there were a few in stock in the Goleta Miners Ace store, so I substituted zinc #6 lock nuts to make do. I expect that it is challenging to restock so many items in the fastener department. Miners could do better in this area and I typically find what I need in the way of SAE or metric fasteners I can tell you first hand that having a store on which I can count) especially with knowledgeable staff like in the fastener area in the Goleta store) makes a huge difference to me especially when trying to find a specific item in the numerous drawers in that area. read more

Just went to Ace. I have to downgrade my review... again. The woman cashier that checked me out was pretty rude. Asked me for my phone # - which is normal. I offered to enter It into the keypad but she said I could just tell her. When I started to tell her my #, she ignored me and answered the phone instead of listening to me. In a building full of background noise & masks, she could not hear me. I had to repeat it 2x. Then she started to read off my phone # and full address... is Ace at all concerned about customer service, identity theft? read more

4 stars for the store itself and also for the employee who knew exactly where to find the item we wanted when we asked her, but 2 stars for the very poor customer service we received from the unhelpful and unknowledgeable cashier. We recently purchased a steel strut, and it scanned at a higher price than what was posted. We told the cashier, and her response was "it scanned at this price". No offer to check the price or call someone else to check the price. In fact, I had to go check the price myself, and when I asked if she wanted me to show her, she said she "couldn't leave her station". Her stance was basically, "too bad, that's the price it scanned as, and I'm not going to do anything about it." Since the strut was extremely oily and grimy, after we paid at the corrected price, I asked her if there was any garden liner that we could use to line our car. Her response was "no, we don't have garden liner, we only have liner that you can buy." Well, of course I went to the garden area myself and found garden liner, which almost all garden stores have. Your cashier gave us misinformation at every step and needs actual training to have working knowledge of the store. read more

Just purchased a new Weber Genesis E-335 Grill at the Goleta Miner's Ace Hardware for $1300 plus on Saturday. Went to SB Home Improvement Center (Ace Hardware) on Sunday to purchase a cover and they have the same grill on sale for $300 cheaper. Who would have thought! I've always thought SB Home Improvement Center (Ace Hardware) was more expensive. And I know Goleta Miner's Ace Hardware is more expensive than Home Depot. Went back to Goleta Miner's (AH) to see if we could get a price match, but unfortunately they have different prices than SB Home Inprovement Center (AH) and each Ace Hardware is individually owned. Good to know. Lesson learned. Check competing stores even if you think they are higher!! My husband and I spend a lot of money in Goleta Miner's. Maybe not in the future! read more

This store has to rethink a sensible checkout system. Every time we are there the line is all the way across the store and moves VERY SLOWLY. OSH had a MUCH BETTER idea on how to handle crowds. I like going to this store because they always seem to willing to help. Over the Holidays I finally made leap to purchase one of the nicer Traeger Grills. I had been on the fence a while and finally pulled the trigger on this purchase. They assembled and delivered it and I had a few nice meals. Then around the middle of April I started having trouble with it. Three separate pieces were defective and the grill would not turn on. I spent hours with Traeger support and after several weeks it still did not work. I called Miner's and was immediately contacted by Shana who apologized for the inconvenience and would have another one assembled and delivered in a few days. This confirms my thought that this organization really cares for their customer, something not easy to find these days. Kudos and thanks to Miner's Hardware! read more

I love this neighborhood hardware store. They have a surprising diversity of products and I always feel that the staff is eager to help.

When shippers come into a store it's really handy to have things marked as to their prices. Apparently everything I came to shop for was not marked. Lawnmowers, wheelbarrows, patio heaters. The list is endless. When I worked in retail years ago nothing came to the floor without a price. The staff is pretty useful, but if you're in a time crunch, their system is not helpful.
