This boutique Target is good for small, popular items and groceries but not much else. The clothing area is sparse and crowded. The food and beverage area is fine and plenty of alcohol selections. I will say, my husband is able to get hard to find collectible cards at this location. What really had an impact on this low score is the small parking lot and that it takes over ten minutes to get a drive up order. I always tell my Target app when I'm on my way but despite prepping the staff, i still sit there and wait. The Goleta location is much quicker when it comes to this. read more

Parking can be a bit dodgy as few drive slowly in the parking lot. The two story format may cause you to take a couple of escalator trips before you find what you like. Shopping here is very low-key compared to the Goleta Target as you don't have to deal with students. read more

First time being in a two-story Target! Visited from out of state - we ordered something online since we forgot it at home. Easy access to the store. Pick up was super easy. For a smaller Target, there was a decent selection. Minimal clothing options (compared to full size stores), no shoes. Grocery area has all necessities along with more frequently purchased items. No outdoor items that we could find. Toiletries and bath sections were well stocked. Had some gift items as well, with lots of cute Hello Kitty and Target brand items. Santa Barbara is one of those places where you can keep coming back over and over for years on end and, you can find something new every time! My wifey and I have had the Santa Barbara area as our go-to getaway spot for 20 years now and we NEVER knew this place existed until our last visit! So we were in town for the weekend and a couple of weeks back for the Orchid Festival and we wanted to explore a bit of the "other side" of State Street; the Five-Points area in particular. We were about to turn onto the street leading to the mall and, Lo and Behold!, we saw a Target Logo on a small but cute-looking two-story building. We were intrigued!!! So we decided to park and go inside and take a look around. I gotta say, the store is kinda cute! It has almost everything a regular Target has but boiled down into a two-story mini location. The first floor is taken up with a clothing section, a mini-market of sorts, and the checkout lanes. The second floor has most of what you'd expect to find at Target: Housewares, home decor, small appliances, and even a small electronics section!. What we both found to be cool was the shopping cart escalator! That's right! Right next to the normal escalators are ones designed to take your cart with you to either the 1st or 2nd floor so you can continue with your shopping experience. They also have an elevator if that's more your speed or if you have a mobility scooter, etc. The wifey and I decided to do a little shopping in here for various sundries and supplies for our trip. We both liked the way things were laid out in the store and their use of existing space; although there was merchandise stacked on the floor in the electronics section that seemed a little out of place. This last part and my trip to the restroom is what leads me to deduct a star from my review. When I visited the men's restroom, I found it a mess. There were paper towels and toilet seat covers strewn about everywhere! Very offputting, especially since the restrooms are close to the janitorial area and the employee gathering rooms. All in all we are happy to have found this little gem of value in Santa Barbara. We might explore the larger location in Goleta on a future trip, but this one will do just fine in the meantime. read more

This target gets a bad reputation since it is so small..but you know what - it has the basics and sometimes i only need the basics and don't want to deal with navigating a giant store with millions of options! It's also more centrally located in Santa Barbara than the larger Goleta store. I drive by frequently and there is easy parking. I love that i can stop by quickly to buy an item or two. I also can check on the app in advance if they have items and place a drive-up order if I'm even more crunched for time and don't want to go in. They have a small selection of clothing, toys, toiletries, household products, alcohol, and food. I can also easily make returns from other target stores or online purchases. read more

Super excited about our very first Target in the 805!! I never thought I'd live to see the day that Santa Barbara would finally allow us to have one. Mind you this Target is more like an express mini shopping experience, and offers a taste of what they have to offer. Literally just a sample of everything they carry at a normal sized Target so don't come here with high expectations. At this mini target you will find a grocery section, clothing, household items, party supplies, toys, alcohol, beauty care, electronics, and more. I noticed the prices aren't as cheap as other Targets I've been to out of town. Hopefully they will have sales once they get established. It is a two story store located where the Galleria used to be. Parking is very limited here and only offers 91 parking spots. Right now they are in the soft opening period and will officially have their Grand Opening on Sunday, April 7th at 8:00 am. They will be giving away complimentary reusable bags to the first 1,000 guests. Overall this store is more like a 3 star rating but I'm looking at the positive side being that it's a start and I'm very happy to finally have a different place to shop and looking forward to the bigger Target coming soon this year in Goleta! read more

My first visit here in Santa Barbara, I had to work on some machines but was amazed that it was a 2 story Target! What a beauty, it just caught me by surprise, what a trip on how they have an escalator for the cart! And speaking with the Store Lead was very pleasant and watching how she interacted with all the customers, really nice. I wish I could come back more, but at least now if driving through Santa Barbara 101 it will be an easy on and off the freeway. read more

It's a Target. Unreasonably large so that you go for toothpaste and end up in the wine aisle. Or is that just me. Target continues to impress me by making me interested in items I was unaware could be relevant to me. This time it was a size small men's pink hoodie that fit me perfectly oversized (shopping goal: a stapler). My friend called this the "JV Target" once, and it's definitely stuck. The property isn't at all big enough for a full sized Target, but Santa Barbarians were tired of driving to Ventura for reasonable home goods, so this one got built in a fancy looking mini mall who's best previous tenant was a bagel shop. Then within a year, a real Target moved in to Goleta, and we now have a JV Target. That said, this has been THE best place to get groceries during the pandemic - really short lines and plenty of goods. Also, it doesn't smell terrible like the Smart and Final in 5 points. They have a good selection of toys, beauty products, and booze, good prices, and an unhurried atmosphere. If you're going to a birthday party anywhere near La Cumbre, or need a couple quick items, this is your spot. read more

Slight rant Fuck Target. Their system online states they have the piece of furniture I want at their Santa Barbara location with multiple units on hand. I drive 70 minutes to SB and find out that they have nothing in stock. The lady I spoke to ended up being the manager. I showed her my phone and what the system shows. Her system says the item was on clearance, but online it still shows full price. I ask her if she can order it and have it shipped to my house, she said she couldnt because it was a clearance item. I show her that I am able to order it online, but not at regular price. I ask her if she can give me the clearance price and she says there's nothing she can do. Fuck Target. I could've spent an additional $80 getting it on Amazon instead. I would've saved that much on time and gas. Shop on Amazon instead people! Rant over. read more

First reaction: Whoohoo! Finally! Although we will miss the easy occasional excuse to head to our southern sister cities. First impression: Meh. It is a petite Target with a little of many things but not a whole lot of selection. It DOES have an impressive grocery section for its size that I was not expecting including: produce, cold/frozen section and beer, wine, booze. It has self-check out, which can be nice, but with only a couple stations at the State Street side doors it also has long lines. How do people still not know how to self-check these days!! There are some traditional checkout tucked in corner near the parking lot main entrance side. This store will be nice for getting staples and for picking up online orders (I believe) but does not really fill the retain void like the upcoming Goleta store will. The parking lot is small and although they rearrange the street traffic patterns, it is nearly impossible to make a left turn into their lot due to the street traffic volume and intersection backups. Good luck to the neighboring businesses... Also, no restrooms that I could find. read more

If you are shopping late and are handicap, like me, they lock the door next to the handicap parking. They wouldn't unlock the entrance door to let me get to my car in the handicapped section. I told them I couldn't walk far and that I had a disability, but the manager said she wouldn't open it. I had to walk all the way the way around the building to get to my car, which honestly wouldn't be a big deal if I didn't have a disability. read more

This is just what Santa Barbara needed. As a lifelong resident of this beautiful city, I've come to appreciate the fact that there are a minimum of big box-style locales in the vicinity. Localized shops with more of a boutique approach are what make this city unique and vibrant. This particular Target is about as boutique as you can get. When this spot was being put in, I know that many complained they wouldn't be getting the "true" Target experience. Good! Go to Ventura for that! Leave the big box mentality out of here. I love this location because it's essentially a shrunken version of the real deal, but still features a large array at those discount prices we've all come to love. There are still all the departments that the full-scale stores have, just a smaller selection. I know that when this place was built, the idea was to order online and pick up here. Honestly, if you want something that this location doesn't carry, order online and have it shipped to the store (or your door) in a few short days. Not a big deal! Another initial complaint was the lack of parking. Well, the masses were correct - for the first two weeks when the entire city of Santa Barbara decided to shop at the exact same time. Now that those masses have been weeded out, parking is not an issue. I've been four times in the last week, all at differing times of the day, and have easily been able to find parking. I don't think that this will be an issue going forth, so worry not. Yes, it's a big business in a city where small businesses are king. No, it's not the full-scale Target that you've come to know. However, I feel these two points allow for that boutique-style big box that just seems to work here. Overall, a win-win in my book. read more

Target is finally has opened in Santa Barbara and I couldn't be more excited! I finally had the chance to stop by yesterday and check it out for myself. First of all this is a mini Target so it's not that big and with the location it was put into that understandable. It is two stories and has lots of selections but the building itself isn't that big. The parking lot is also very small and was super busy. I was able to get a spot right away since someone was leaving right when I pulled in so that was great but I can't even imagine how this place can be on the weekends. At this Target you will find the clothing section, household section, toys, alcohol, food, beauty care, electronics and more! The clothing section is very small but they do have sections for men, women and children. They do have an area with household stuff but it's not that big either. The beauty care section was pretty big and fully stocked. The food section was a good size too. They had tons of produce and groceries which was awesome! Overall since this is a mini Target so they don't have everything you might be looking for but atleast we finally have a Target now! I'll be back again soon to check it out again! All I can say is FINALLY!!! For us Santa Barbara locals, having one spot where you can buy basically anything you could need was a struggle, until now! Yes, this Target is smaller than regular locations but it still has all of the main sections target would have, they just have a smaller selection. I went on a weekday evening around 6pm, and although the parking lot is small, I was able to find a spot no problem. I loved how modern and clean everything was, and the employees were friendly. There are two restrooms on the second floor with a code lock, but they had the codes posted on the door, not sure if that's because it's still crowded and new. This location will be great for folks that live downtown, but I'll only be visiting this Target until our Goleta location opens up later this year! read more

I love that there finally is a target in Santa Barbara. What throws me off is how people are upset that the location is small. It was marketed as a neighborhood Target which is basically a small grocery store with the convenience of having readily accessible items found at a normal location. What I like about this location is even though everything is compact, the layout is easy and simple to navigate. The employees are very friendly (they seem to enjoy working there, let's see how long that lasts) and the store is super clean. I went to get baby hangers but they did not have any in store. They informed me I could order online and have anything Target carries shipped free to the store. Overall this location will do until the big Target opens later this year in Goleta (Really can't wait for it to open). To everyone complaining and saying they won't go to this location um, yeah have fun driving down to Oxnard or Santa Maria for goods. read more

This is one of the Biggest disappointments Ever for a retail store in Santa Barbara & my life!! Wednesday night, grand opening Sunday so 4 days of sales and the store is ripped! Empty shelves Everywhere!! I really expected a lot better! Before they whine and say "they were super busy" Duh! Was it surprising to sell a lot of goods? It shouldn't be! This is the TINIEST Target I have EVER been into. You cannot find sheeit here. 2 floors of absolutely frickin nothing. Drove over here looking for some basic stuff and they didn't have sheeit. Until recently Target was never in the Santa Barbara area. Kmart in Goleta dominated the market share here. There are now 2 Target stores here, this one on upper State Street, and the other where the former Kmart was in Goleta. This review is for the Target on upper State Street. I would describe this as a Target express, as it is very small, and the products here are very limited. From my personal experience, this resembled to me a small department store I have visited in Paris or London. So I this is not my qualm with this Target store, rather my problem with this Target is the lack of customer service. Every Target team member I encounter when I come here is not friendly, in fact they are just plain rude. If you are walking down an aisle, a Target team member will cross your path, walk in front of you, stop in front of you as you are walking, and will not even say, "Excuse me." They do not greet you, they ignore you as you are insignificant, even though you are the reason they have a job. This has happened every time I come here, even most recently. My other qualm with this Target is that there is a severe lack of customer service, this is most noticeable when you check out. They have self-checkout kiosks, it is very impersonal, and leaves a cold feeling. When I was exiting the store, I noticed a small bundle of confused customers wanting to check out, and having problems with the self-checkout kiosks. One elderly woman was pleading to the person behind the customer service counter to have someone assist her. The Target team member was arguing with the woman, rather than assist her, for her to use the kiosk. It was an eye opener to this brave new world of automation, lack of customer service, corporate priority over the bottom line over the guest experience...it is just sad. read more

Anyone who is a true target fan will simply appreciate the fact that we even have a target here! If anyone is disappointed by the size, it's because they didn't follow the news leading up to its arrival. It was so clear that this was going to be a small format store, and for being a small format (like many others) it's a 5 star!! The only thing they don't vary is shoes, which is a shame, but at least I can order them online and return in store. I am Target's biggest advocate, and while of course I wish we had 5 super targets in SB, that's never gonna happen and having a mini Target here is great for ordering online and making returns instead of having to drive to Ventura. If you're going to rate this store compared to regular targets, sure it'd be a 3, but if you do your research and understand that it's supposed to be a small format, it is a 5! read more
