It had been a long time since I had a massage, and I happened to see the sign for this place as I was walking by. I have been having a harder time recovering from workouts, so the fact that the sign mentioned athletic recovery caught my eye. I looked up the website and reviews, and seeing that Tao really wanted to focus on individualized concerns, I decided to contact him. He was quick to respond, and I was able to get an appointment as soon as I had availability. Tao asked questions via text to figure out what to schedule, and then asked more questions when I got there for my appointment. As we started, I could tell he was really focusing on areas that needed help. Both sides of my body were not the same, so I appreciated that he was trying to get to the root of things versus just doing a typical deep tissue massage. I have had other massages where I felt like they just had a "routine" massage, and while nice, I was really hoping for something tailored to me. If you are looking for someone who really knows how to target problem areas, give Tao a try. He can also do things like cupping if that is what is needed. He did end up going longer than we scheduled, but I felt so much better after. He was so kind and professional. His prices are reasonable, and the little extras like a face mask and water with electrolytes were really nice. I hope to go back and get another treatment soon. read more

We had sessions for 4 months and I always tipped Tao $20. Last week, I was suggested to Tao that I wanted Chinese cupping and gua sha. Tao got upset and cancelled my next appointment via text. I got the impression from his response that he didn't want to work any harder on me during my paid massage session. I never got another appointment booked, for Tao did not want me as a customer anymore. I never did get a reason from Tao as to why he cancelled my massage with no explanation. I am giving Tao one star for poor customer service. read more

This was literally the best massage I've ever had and I get them monthly. He was able to work out knots no one has ever resolved. I left completely pain free and feeling amazing. Booking. I went to Tao Jung because my thighs and calves were extremely tight, and it was uncomfortable, causing irritating pain. I wasn't sure if he would accept me as I was coming from work in Chula Vista (after 7:00), but he took me in. He asked me several questions when I first contacted him, which I found very professional. I opted for the 90-minute session ($130), and now I truly wish I had chosen the 2-hour option ($150). Arrival. When I first met him, I thought, "How is this skinny guy going to massage the tightness out of a chunky guy like me?" I must admit, I was a bit wary. I am on the chubbier side. However, I quickly learned not to mess with this handsome gentleman. Tao is a very humble, friendly, and hospitable man. He met me in front of the building, which was great because I might have driven right past it. Massage experience. After I got ready for the massage, and when he started, I thought, "Whoa." His fingers seamlessly melted into my skin and muscles. He is quite intuitive, employing a combination of deep-pressure and Swedish techniques to work on my left shoulder blade for a while. I never mentioned to him that the accident I had 9 years ago affected me in that area and continues to bother me. Using the same combination of massage techniques, he addressed my glutes, thighs, and hamstrings. He even incorporated stretching to help alleviate the pain I came in for. Surprisingly, he even put me to sleep! He wiped me down, understanding that I did not like excessive oil and creams on me. He was simply incredible! In the end, the tightness subsided, my sciatic and lower back pain decreased. I went home and was too relaxed to do anything else. I ended up falling asleep. I blame Tao for that. It is his fault for being an experienced and effective healer! I have been to several masseurs here in San Diego, trying to find someone who can heal and help me. I strongly believe that Tao is that person for me, and I have every intention of returning to him. I am hoping he will start yoga classes somewhere as he is a certified yoga instructor; I would totally attend. - - - - - - - - - WAIT! I forgot one more thing.... I have never had a 90-minute massage where the masseur really worked on my feet! A few of the masseurs here in SD maybe spent 30 seconds to a minute, but Tao really spent time on my feet. I felt like I was getting a Taiwanese foot massage. He literally cared for me from head to toe. - - - - - - - - - Overall. I hesitated to write this review because I am afraid that Tao will get too busy and not have the time to work on me! But I do not mind sharing one of San Diego's best with all of you.
