This is a gem of a restaurant for sure! The options are so vast; from tepanyaki, ramen, poke, hotpot, and more, it's truly an asian food haven. I tried quite a few items here, but my favorite was the Spicy Pork Belly Ramen Noodle, the Hawaiian Poke Donburi, and the Sizzling Beef Udon. The broth in the ramen was super unique; a bit sweet but really tasty. The chashu was so so tender and the bowl was a great portion for only $12! The Hawaiian Poke Donburi was so well packaged and the poke was in a delicious sweet soy marinade. Loved the Beef Udon which had the perfect texture and light savory flavor. I think what really sets this restaurant apart is the reasonable prices for good, well-portioned dishes! Ordering 5 entrees and 1 appetizer only came out to around $70-80 The family that owns this restaurant is so sweet! They were really attentive and seemed open to suggestions for improvements. Would have given this spot five stars but the sizzling pork belly dish was a let down. The pieces of pork belly were not tender and juicy so we were a bit disappointed. Stopped by for a weekday dinner with my husband. There were many people already there. We tried the sizzling beef udon- it was very flavorful, more on the sweeter side. In this economy, to have sit-down food that costs less than $30 for two people is hard to find, especially in San Jose. We stumbled upon this hidden gem of a restaurant yesterday evening. I was starving and didn't want to drive to the other locations I usually frequent for food, so I found MiMi's Kitchen and the photos made my mouth water. MiMi's Kitchen is a family-owned, fusion restaurant that serves a variety of dishes from hot pot to ramen to sizzling rice plates. There are no physical menus, you order and pay from a QR code that is specific to your table. I found it neat that they had metal QR codes for every table! The dim lighting with the cute, minimalistic decor is very inviting and cozy. Everything was clean and the staff were welcoming and friendly. I wanted to see for myself if the prices were really that cheap, and they were. The ramen was only $13 for the beef, the sizzling plates were at most $16 for the unagi version, the hot pot was at most $20 for the kimchi seafood version, and I could go on and on. They even had donburi and udon dishes! Anyway, my husband and I were very interested to try the sizzling plates. I got the sizzling Korean style BBQ pepper rice, which comes with beef and is only $13. He got the sizzling pork belly pepper rice for $12. Our sizzling plates were out in less than 10 minutes, and boy were they sizzling! We were told to mix in the butter sauce into the rice asap, which we promptly did. They do not skimp on meat here! As I was enjoying my sizzling plate, I kept finding more pieces of beef under the rice. The rice and meats are very well seasoned and the butter sauce is rich and compliments the meat well. The green onions and corn that topped the sizzling plate were great to cut the fattiness of the rice. My sizzling rice plate also had some slivers of onions too. A couple next to us ordered the hot pot. It looked reallllly good. I'll have to order that next time. Do yourself a favor and try this place out before MiMi's Kitchen gets popular. As we ate, there were a few groups of people who came in, and basically filled up the entire restaurant. This place isn't huge, so come before the lunch or dinner rushes. I came here for a family dinner and everything was great! The interior felt very family oriented and the chair designs were interesting. Each table had a QR code for you to scan and see the menu. They don't have physical menus unfortunately, but I don't think that's much of an issue. Sizzling Beef Pepper Rice(4/5): The plate comes really hot, so if you're not trying to have burnt rice then I do recommend mixing it right away. The meat comes already cooked, so there isn't a lot of waiting besides eating it because it's so hot! Tried this place one random Thursday and it was exceptional! I really liked the service and the decor of this restaurant. Although it is tucked away just right beside kitchen nail bar, it is ALMOST a hidden gem for me. I like that they have sizzling plates here however, not a fan of how chewy the meat was. Also tried the takoyaki - absolutely delightful because it's crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside (my leftovers reheated super well in the toaster oven the next day too).
