Cherry blossom (~$13) it's basically a tuna roll with salmon wrapped in the outside. The salmon tasted very fresh. Dragon roll (~$13) unagi and avocado on the outside with shrimp tempura rolled up inside. The tempura was still crispy even when I brought it home. The food came in the same box. Arrived here at 630pm yesterday for a dinner date with hunny . We were greeted immediately and was told we could sit anywhere. There were 5 parties here already. The owner greeted us as we walked in. His name is Jimmy and he was very friendly. My husband remembered his name from his first visit a few months ago. There are about 11 tables for parties of 2s and 4s. I like that the tables aren't overcrowded and there is plenty of space in between tables. A carafe of ice cold water with slices of lemon was brought out immediately and we were asked to scan the QR for the menu and ordering. Both my husband and I each scanned the QR code and we were able to see what was added to our cart from our phones. That is nice making it easy for each customer in the party to add their choice w/o having to pass a designated phone around. Soon after, our plates and chopsticks were brought out. Hubby and I ordered the following: 1. Seaweed salad: very crunchy and fresh. Would've love it there was a little sesame oil. 2. Hamachi carpaccio: Very delish. Thick cuts and big. Very fresh! The flavor of each bite is so yummy and must eat with the thin slice of lemon which is hidden under the slice of hamachi. Each bite gives you a nice crunchy texture from the tobiko garnished on top, a spicy kick from the fresh wasabi and jalapeno slice with a tart flavor from the lime. Its a burst of texture and flavors all in 1. 3. Bimbimbap sizzling plate: Great combo of ingredients. Flavoring is somewhat light and the spiciness is barely there, however, I added the Shichimi Togarashi Red Pepper Mix to it and it gave me the spicy level I wanted. The sizzling plate kept the rice pretty hot and evetually warm by the time we were done eating about an hour-ish later. 4. Jala Hamachi and Fire Dragon rolls: Big rolls with thick & fresh sashimi cuts. Rice is cooked well and the rolls are intact. The food came out accordingly with appetizers then our rolls and lastly, the sizzling plate. Although I liked the order it came out as that's how it should be but I think the food came out too fast. Within 10 minutes we got all our dishes and we barely even ate our carpaccio and seaweed salad. I think pacing it out would have been better but we did take our time to enjoy the meal since it was our first time in a long time having dinner without our boys. Also, it would've been great if there is alcohol to enjoy the food with but they do not serve alcohol here. I ordered a Yuzu sparkling drink to enjoy with the meal but alcohol would have tasted better. The staff is friendly and service is quick and great! I definitely would like to return in the future to try other plates. *This restaurant can easily be missed as it is actually hidden in the corner plaza (CVS/McDonalds) in corner of Blossom Hill and Snell. It tasted great and they give you a large portion. My friend had some nigiri and the sushi was very fresh and reasonably priced. The service was top notch. Everyone was nice and helpful. If you like creamy ramen, then you 100% will not enjoy it here and I recommend you go to another spot. Based on the overall taste, everything also felt extremely overpriced and I wouldn't recommend it based on that either :( I also got the gyoza and the cheese corn. I came to Mimi's Kitchen on a Friday night, around 8pm. The restaurant is a bit hidden in the plaza, but there's a sign that points you in the right direction. The restaurant was about 80% full. We were seated right away and ordered with the QR code menu. We ordered the baked mussels, sizzling eel rice, and Hawaiian poke bowl. The baked mussels were chewy and fresh, topped with sushi bake sauce and unagi sauce. A bit on the sweeter end, but I did enjoy it. The sizzling eel rice had green onions, corn, garlic butter, eggs, and teriyaki sauce. I enjoyed the texture of the rice and combination of the ingredients. And the eel tasted great. Again, the teriyaki sauce gave the dish a sweeter taste. The Hawaiian poke bowl was presented really nicely, and had a spicy kick to it. It included tuna, egg, onions, ponzu, poke sauce, bonito flakes, sesame seeds, and green onions topped over rice. The fish was quite fresh and I loved the shape of the egg omelette. I think the ponzu and poke sauce also made the dish on the sweeter end, maybe slightly different from traditional Hawaiian poke bowls but nevertheless still tasty. Mimi's Kitchen seems to lean towards a sweeter taste palate, but is nonetheless delicious! It has a large menu, and a mix of Japanese, Korean, and Chinese dishes -- definitely a great place for variety or if you're indecisive on what to eat. I work in South San Jose where it is flooded with American chain restaurants. So finding this legit Asian establishment is a gem. I was excited to lunch by myself here. Mimi's is a quiet little hole in the wall with quite the bang for your buck in the form of homey Japanese-esque meals. Especially these days with inflation it's even harder to beat the price point they're operating at without sacrificing too much on quality. I'd place them at a 4.5, but it's a very nice locally owned joint and a lot of heart in its space/operation so I handily round up. Efficient experience with QR code ordering system, but frequently checked in on by polite staff. Food came out pretty fast too (within 10min). Also cute little mint for finishing the meal! Menu spans a host of Japanese items like takoyaki, teppayaki/sizzling rice, udon/ramen. A few could be argued to be Asian fusion (poke, Korean style stuff), but they're not the majority by any means. Cheese corn - 4/5 Tastes more like a baked corn with cheese on top than cheesy corn, but I'm a fan of both so I have no hard complaints. The distinction being that that corn underneath, while being perfectly cooked and fine tasting didn't really mesh with the cheese at all...so a bit more mixing of the cheese+corn would help on that front. Some light seasonings would help accentuate the corn better, though they do have plenty of table-available condiments. Takoyaki - 4.5/5 Flavor is on point with a lightly crispy exterior and a nice fluffy interior. It's not quite on the liquidy soft style I'm more fond of, but it's a pretty good iteration. Stir fried beef udon - 4/5 Perfect on the seasoning front and has a pretty good balance of veggies, meat, and noodles. Udon noodles are on the soft side for a stir fry and not much in the way of wokhei, so there's certainly room for improvement, but it's more than sufficiently serviceable for $13. Sizzling rice pork belly - 4.5/5 They do wonderfully on the flavor front and everything is pretty solid as far as the sizzling rice dish goes (from the copious amounts of butter and garlic to the soy seasoning in the rice and buttery pork belly). Temperature control could be better though, since although it comes out with a sizzle (and is relatively still pretty hot), it's not hot enough for any of the food on the skillet to really cook through with a crisp that's characteristic for teppanyaki. Still, flavor here is better than some places have even with a crisp so it's a tossup. read more
