Flies
Jolene M.

Dined on a Tuesday at noon with my 2 year old nephew. What went well: service was friendly and they were kid friendly. Why the low rating? We ordered a kids pot pie which the menu states comes with a side and beverage (chose mashed potatoes and milk) and a half sandwich and soup with a diet coke and a small black and white cookie to go. Food did come out promptly but we were overwhelmed with flies that it was unpleasant to eat in the dining room. Despite having fans on the table to try and keep them away, they were so plentiful and landed on us constantly that my 2 year old nephew was able to kill one just trying to shoo them away with a napkin! If this is what the dining room is like I can't imagine the kitchen situation. It was so unpleasant that we asked for boxes shortly after getting the food and just ate the soup in the restaurant. The food runner commented that my nephew was served an adult pot pie instead of a kids pot pie so I didn't say anything about his missing side (and he had decided he only wanted my soup anyways). When we got the bill I noticed that I had been charged for the kids milk (3.50 for a kids drink and then another 2.25 for milk so 5.75 total). When pointed out that it said drinks were ncluded in the kids menu she told me that actually weren't but did take it off my bill this time. Our total with tax and tip was over 50 dollars for a kids meal, half a chicken salad sandwich, soup, a cookie, and a single diet coke (no refill was offered and priced at 5.25 by itself). The high prices and unpleasant fly situation make me unlikely to return to Milton's in the future which is a shame since AI have enjoyed it in the past

Kids pancake

We came here for brunch to meet some friends. We sat outside. Inside dining looks great. Outside dining is small and lower than the parking lot, but doesn't feel cramped. Service was wonderful. Staff was attentive and made sure we were taken care of despite being only table outside. Food was good, my breakfast sandwich was great. We also had pancakes! Didn't try the deli but I know the kids got a free cookie. It's a good place to have brunch.

Massive corned beef on rye! DELISH!

Driving up I-5 in Southern California from San Diego to Carlsbad happened upon Milton's deli. What a gem first time to eat here and pure coincidence but what a treat. The hostess sat sat us promptly and our server was right there. He was not overbearing but took care of all our needs even anticipating the to go boxes without us having to ask for them. Our food came out quickly and was fabulous the Uber stuffed corned beef on fresh rye and the bigger than life Rueben were fantastic. The corned beef just melted in your month. It is great to see an old school deli doing it right with great food and service ! The place had a stored area in the front, super clean and right out of the deli era ambiance.

Challah toast, good but a little burnt
Alyssa S.

New owners. I'm on the fence between three and four stars for this review. Greek omelette was good. I would give it four stars. Challah was pretty good but it was on the burnt side a little. I really ordered from here because I wanted breakfast for dinner, and that included hashbrowns. And the hashbrowns are pretty sad looking! They look like someone sliced a potato instead of grating it, and they were soggy rather than crisp. I wouldn't say they were awful, but this is what's keeping me from giving four stars. When people order hashbrowns they want crispy deliciousness. And this was some chopped potatoes that also needed some more salt. I won't give up on the new Milton's but the hashbrowns were certainly disappointing!

Pastrami sandwich with potato salad
David N.

The pastrami sandwich was good, but the meat was too fatty and the bread not very fresh. The potato salad was very good, and the house-made pickles the star of the show. If you want fries, the $24.50 sandwich becomes $27.50. I'm not cheap, but for the quantity and quality it's just not a good value. Service was excellent and the ambience and decor very nice old time New York deli-restaurant style. I prefer the leaner, just as tasty pastrami and corned beef sandwiches at DZ Akins, on fresher toasted bread. Great pickles too!

Well established restaurant with friendly service. Large parking lot but it's tight and busy. Sunday around lunch was a steady stream of customers. Matzo ball soup was well seasoned and delicious if that's your jam. Chicago beef needed mayo for personally and a little more salt but was enjoyed by three people who shared. Fries were double fried and crunchy but not greasy. I enjoyed the potato salad. Pastrami tasted fresh and so much better than store bought deli pastrami. Rye bread was good and not dry! Prices are a little high but they pile on the meats. Lots of baked goodies! Tried the snickerdoodle which was nice and soft, and the rugalah, good taste but a little dry. Lava cake was a hit. Rye bread was the best my husband has had in California.

Unfortunately went 0 for 2 on experiences here. I'll explain below, but honestly the location is nice and the menu is attractive but just falls flat on delivery and service. Food (1/5) - First, my wife stopped by a week ago while nearby shopping and thought the french dip was good enough to bring another home to-go for me. They forgot the dip in the order, the key core component of the french dip. The plain sandwich was decent enough that we happened to be nearby again today - gave them a second try only to yet again have issues with service/orders and most importantly taste. Was recommended the pastrami "cheesesteak" but it just didn't have much flavor and was pretty dry - the Chicago dog we got wasn't much better. Sides are fine, crispy chips/fries, coleslaw was really liquid-y, but the potato salad was pretty great after i was finally served it, needing to ask 3 or 4 times. Another key point is we paid $50 for a cheesesteak and a single hotdog and some sides, just not worth the steep cost i think. Maybe I need to order just the things labeled FAMOUS. Service (2/5) - Host lady was really nice/funny, but the service was just alright. wasn't really sure if we had 1 set server as we had like 4 different people bring us or order us different things, all just to have them forget an item for a while anyway and then not get extra water or napkins until the end of the meal. Personal gripe but i think it's insane to have the suggested tip START AT 20% / 22% / 25% when the server is STANDING THERE HOLDING THE MACHINE sure i can scramble to leave a custom lower tip but thats such an awkward encounter as a customer especially if im already having a relatively not great experience to begin with. Ambiance (3/5) the only good thing. cute old school diner decor / atmosphere but it loses its charm when it feels like the whole restaurant is behind, not just the theme. seating was pretty comfortable and this place is pretty big, parking can be a bit rough in the busy plaza though. End of the day seems like they gotta realign with some values or they're gonna keep slipping on quality control.

The service was so friendly and efficient. We got served pretty quickly even though the place was completely full on Saturday at lunch time. It was a cute old school place and I liked the old photos on the wall. I had the mish mash soup, which was very large and couldn't finish. Took the rest home. Very delicious and fresh. Mish mash is like the matzo ball soup but with a giant beef dumpling added.

A promotional discount to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of this Jewish bakery/deli/restaurant in North County was what brought me to Milton's. It's likely one of the OG tenants at the Flower Hill Promenade in Del Mar. From the outside, the architecture of the building was unusual, almost resembling an art gallery. The shared parking lot had ample spaces to park close enough to the business. You did have to descend a set of steps or use the external lift to reach the main entrance that was below ground level. The bakery and deli were to the left when you walked in while the dining room was to the right. The menu was a booklet that spanned six pages. Breakfast and beverages were on the first two pages; appetizers, salads, sandwiches, and soups were listed on the middle two pages; and the final two pages displayed the dinners, entrees, hot sandwiches, and desserts. As part of my coupon, I had to order a drink so I chose a lemonade. The Roasted Turkey Dinner was the choice for my meal. Several slices of turkey breast were served on top of a bed of stuffing with creamy mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables on the side. A cup of brown gravy and a cup of cranberry sauce were also provided. The white meat was a bit dry which was not unusual when restaurants serve this cut of turkey. The rest of the plate was classic comfort food. The potatoes had chunks in them to give texture. The veggies were cooked to the right degree. The portion size was decent for the price. Initially, the service was a bit choppy as there seemed to be only one worker to cover the entire dining room. As the number of customers dwindled, then the waitress was more on point. I gave a 3.5 star rating for my dinner at Milton's.

Matzo Ball soup

Went today (Saturday) at 11:00 am with our party of 7. It's located right off the 5 freeway at the (very busy) Flower Hill Mall. Parking was challenging. So I'm glad I was wearing my sneakers. Walking in, the bakery at the entrance was busy but thankfully we were able to get seated right away. The hostess was super friendly and helpful. The menu was vast. So many options for breakfast/lunch/dinner that's served all day! Most of us chose the 1/2 sandwich & soup which we ALL thoroughly enjoyed. I had the pastrami on rye with the turkey chili. The pastrami was meaty & moist, the turkey chili tasted homemade and full-flavored, and the potato salad was creamy. Unfortunately, by the time we left, the bakery was even more packed so we didn't take any baked goods home. Overall, it was a good experience and will be returning. Already planning to get the whole pastrami sandwich next time!

Craving your deli favs? Milton's has been around since 1995. This deli offers all traditional deli and kosher foods from piled high pastrami's, matzo ball soups and a bakery of goodies. Located in the Via De La Valle center, with free parking. The building has the stair lift to help the physically impaired. Outdoor and indoor seating. The interior is light filled with the surrounding hugh arched windows, and some comfy booth seatings. The menus were newish, looked very clean, not a tear, stain...each page easy to navigate. Ordered my deli fav usuals: bowl of matzo ball soup, only broth, carrots and matzo ball it was hearty, the hot chicken broth was soothing and the matzo ball was delish. The half sandwich of pastrami on rye, pickle spear and Cole slaw after I added a bit of french mustard was scrumptious and was filling I couldn't finish my half sando, boxed it Togo. The next day, ordered the Super Reuben sky high sandwich which is the top seller and onion rings, both were excellent. Service by the hostess, waiter and servers was attentive, nice and expedient. During Rosh Hashanah this deli, like all others gets crowded and sometimes there's a wait. I visited after the rush crowd and service and the ambiance was pleasant. This deli does offer catering and the bakery offers lots of goodies for those with a sweet tooth. I had to get their Black and White cookie, which was just freshly baked and frosted, not too sugary sweet just yummy! Milton's is among the best delis, Recommend.

My order took over an hour to be delivered. Then once arrived it was completely wrong. I called in to discuss the wrong sandwiches when the line was transferred to Jessie the Shift Leader. I explained my order was an hour late and he quickly interrupted me to say " I dont know what you expect when you have people who dont know English like Asian and Russians delivering your items". I explained that what does that have to do with my sandwich that was made wrong. He continued to argue with me and state he could do nothing but the owner Ryan know. As the call was ended he decided to bring up his racist thoughts again about grubhub and Uber delivery drivers and continued to repeat how these people cant understand anything and all it is is African, Asians and Russians. I told him his comments were out of line and completely racist. He still attempted to spill out hateful speech over hearing what a customer had to say and I finally hung up. He called me back 30 min later and said rhe owner Ryan was refunding my money and he was sorry for his racist comments. Absolutely way to late!!! I DO NOT RECOMMENDED ANYONE goes to this board and brew. Also corporate should consider who they allow to run these establishments becuase it sets a bad reputation for other locations!
