I figured as much that this would be the best place to get these items than going to the national chain. At the time of my visit they were milling the parking lot in preparation of repaving it. That was not fun to drive over and it was not fun to figure out a parking space. Walking across it was just as bad, worse for the employees tasked with retrieving the carts and returning them to the store. Inside I just kind of wondered around. I wasn't looking for anything in particular. I just came to browse and grab whatever I wanted. I knew I wasn't going to do a full grocery order, but I was going to buy what I needed to survive a week in a hotel room. It was easy to shop in here when I had no set list. I wasn't in a hurry. I was just browsing and picking items I wanted to snack on. Selection was plentiful, and the options were great. Making my way around the store, killing time, and then to the checkouts. The only thing I was upset about was that there were no anvils for purchase. My expectations were shattered.

But Safeway's are great for some things. And both the Acme & Safeway-branded store are great grocers, with Acme making the grade for their late hours, great staff & deli counter. The staff jokes around with me or at least chuckle at my dumb jokes. Lol Well done! & thank you

While there, my friends and I walked along the beach, marveled at the horseshoe crabs, and enjoyed the cactus gardens and sweet honeysuckle-lined road. During our walks, we would stop by the Broadkill Store for coffee, soda, facial wipes, and to satisfy my Necco candy wafers "fix." While it's a typical combined bait/tackle and convenience store (i.e. it's got an eclectic mix of emergency household items, snacks, beach toys, Broadkill Beach branded merch, etc.), it also has a kitchen and griddle where delicious breakfast foods, sandwiches and fries are served up. They open early - perfect for the early riser and angler setting off for high tide. The staff are friendly and conversational. They were excited about the busy Memorial Day weekend they experienced and the forthcoming summer season where customers from nationwide come to Broadkill Beach. Love the small neighborhood store vibe with the variety of merch for many needs!

What a shame, considering it is very convenient to my home in Bayside - but I will simply drive the extra 2 min down the road to the next grocery store where the customer service is always top notch. I approached the sub counter and waited to be acknowledged by one of the employees behind the counter. Neither bothered to greet me. Or to tell me that the line, apparently, usually snakes to the right. Despite my standing and waiting patiently, Deja took the order of a woman who arrived at the counter after me. Still not a word of acknowledgment from anyone behind the counter. Eventually, the gentleman begin the counter asked me if I was picking up an order. I responded that I was not picking up; rather, I had been standing at the counter to place an order. That's when Deja said "the line usually forms that way". What Deja should have said was, "my apologies - I didn't see you, please let Me take your order now". This displayed a lack of customer service skills, which can be corrected through intensive training. However, most disturbingly, Deja also exposed herself to be unprofessional, immature and rude by responding to me by screwing up her face, making faces, rolling her eyes, smirking and giggling. Deja is beyond correction. What she needs is to seek a job in another field as she is clearly incapable of any job on the service industry.
