We had a tremendous time visiting this beach daily. The beach is spotless and clean, and you can see straight to the bottom of the crystal clear water. The view of the mountains, trees, and entire lake from the beach is absolutely breathtaking. Lifeguards were attentive and ensured everyone remained safe. Patrons were polite and considerate. Sand was nice quality. Restrooms are clean and well-kept. Parking is ample and for $10, you can leave and return multiple times in a given day. Recommended! read more

Would be a great place if you're taking toddlers... is not great for anyone older than that because the rope does not allow you to go into water more than two feet deep. This beach should be named "toddler beach". If you have children over the age of 2, don't bother going. The beach is free but you have to pay $10 for parking! Nothing is allowed at the beach- no toys, no floaters. The water is cordoned off and is not even waist deep. Our 12 year olds were playing catch with a FOAM football away from everyone. It landed in the sand and when they went to the waters edge to rinse it off they were SCOLDED by the lifeguard and told they were endangering people's lives. We live in a community surrounded by water and beaches and have never experienced anything like this. There are plenty of other truly free beaches around Lake George- visit one of them!! read more

Gorgeous, easily accessible beach with well-maintained sparkling-clean facilities, and plenty of room on the sand even when you're competing with summer weekend crowds. The missing star is because if you're taller than the average toddler the "swimming" area is comically tiny and shallow -- the very small roped-off area (that you're not allowed to leave without being whistled at by a lifeguard) barely reached the top of my thigh at the deepest point, and I'm 5'3". Still a great place just for hanging out, enjoying the scenery and splashing around a little in the very clear water, and all of the kids present were clearly having a blast. read more

Lake George's "Beach" was an amazing family experience. The beach area was clean and family friendly. The view was breathtaking. The kids will definitely enjoy the lake water which was not to deep but swimmable and enjoyable for my 12 year old, 9 year old and 4 year old niece. There are many good spots to take advantage after. The changing rooms were clean and entry fee was $8. Have fun! read more

This is a quaint public beach with swimming, picnicking, plus showers, a bath house, and restrooms, though the restrooms were closed when I went. The beach is small and closes at 7pm. It's not clean at all, and the sand is very rocky, so there's a lot left to be desired, but if you want to go for a short walk or sit and watch the sunset, it's pretty. There's parking for $10 a car, but you can just walk on for free. There's free parking, but farther away, and it's so hard to find. There's no grilling here, but it's very dog-friendly, so dogs will be running around without leashes. The concession stand has chair rentals for $5 each. Most importantly, bring bug spray, especially if you're planning to picnic! read more

Do not waste your time. I read the reviews and thought people were being dramatic about the lifeguards so I gave it a try. Bad idea. WAY too many rules. I get the need for safety, and I appreciate that; however, it's like they're looking for a reason to scold you. Whistle blown every 3-7 minutes. Makes for a very unenjoyable visit. Plenty of other beaches on the lake where the lifeguards don't have whistle blowing competitions such as this one. The changing room area is nice - but I'd rather change naked in front of prison before coming back here. The reviews are real on this one, don't be naive like me. read more

As many have mentioned previously, the best beach at Lake George and a great place to bring your family. The sand quality is solid and relatively clean. No notable garbage pile-ups or dead weeds floating in the water when I went. Water was actually pretty clear for such a busy lake. Sand is very popular with the kids! Do avoid the central area as it tends to be the narrowest part of the beach and easily gets overcrowded. The beach is pretty long and the view is quite scenic. Lovely Adirondack mountains and forests! Beach employs lifeguards and they're very passionate and attentive to the beach goers! Lots of young kids and teens here not following rules so you'll hear that whistle regularly. My only issue was to only see 2 life guards on duty on a busy beach day and sections of the water closed off due to a lack of staff. Swim sections are relatively small and narrow with the deepest section allowed barely made it to my hips. Facilities are available nearby such as washrooms, locker rooms and even a snack bar! Large parking area a short walking distance away is available for only $10 a day. Definitely not perfect but I do recommend to visit with children, they'll have a great time. read more

Nice beach. Had to pay to park but beach entrance was free. Bathrooms! Lots and lots of rules...very hard for kids to goof around in the water. Also only had part of the beach open cause not enough lifeguards. And they wouldn't even let u sit on the beach in the unopened area. The beach and spot are very nice - huge parking lot and space on the beach. Very clear water. But definite letdown when it comes to the swimming area - it is a tiny encircled area that is allowed for going into the water and very shallow - like a kiddie pool. Plus some people don't clean up when they leave. $10 parking fee. Closes promptly at 6pm which is way too early. All can be passable, but the swimming are is a huge disappointment and soooo tiny, you can't even call it a beach for that. read more

Living on the coast in Florida, it's tough to get me excited about a fresh-water beach in upstate New York, in the mountains, where the water is cold. But...... this is a great place for locals to stick their toes in the fresh, clear water and enjoy a day on a sandy beach in Lake George, NY. This beach sits on the southern end of Lake George, up in the Adirondack Mountains in upstate NY. Some would describe the water temperature as 'refreshing' or 'brisk'. I would describe it as 'challenging', and encourage my fellow Floridians to smile and wave while walking through the muddy sand. I suppose if you are from the land-locked areas, or from out of the big city (NYC), then a trip to the mountains and a dip in the refreshing lake waters would seem like paradise. Especially after summer days in the concrete jungle. I've been to this beach several times while visiting family in the area, and always enjoy taking a stroll and looking at the incredible mansions sitting on the hillsides around this lake (Hence the naming of this "Million Dollar Beach" park). The view of the homes is absolutely spectacular, and well worth a visit to this little park. The homes were built by old aristocracy money from the early 1900s, and served as summer retreats to these incredibly wealthy families. This park is also the launching point for the paddle wheel steamboats (Minnie Ha-Ha and Mohawk), and these incredibly popular boat rides are loaded up with tourists during the warmer months. The park has some very basic facilities where you can park your car for $10 a day, rent a locker for your clothes, and find plenty of toilets and showers. Nothing fancy, but it does the trick. read more

A perfect place to spend the day. This man made beach has 5 sections to swim in. However a lifeguard will open each additional section as it gets more crowded. It can get a little rocky by the shoreline, but past that, it's clean sand with no seaweed/plants/etc. The water is shallow and kid friendly, probably only ever reaching about 3-4 feet all the way to the ropes. There is also a food stand, which I would probably avoid. Although they have the usual hotdogs and hamburgers, it doesn't exactly have the aromatic BBQ smell, making me think otherwise. The entrance fee is $8 per car. If you don't want to pay the $8, you can park on Beach Rd. by the Around the US/World minigolf and do the 10 minute walk. read more

One good tip if you're going to be around the area for the day. Parking is $10 at the beach. That allows you to leave and come back in all day long (just KEEP YOUR TICKET!!). This is especially great on Thursday nights for the fireworks. We went to the beach during the day. Came back at night and parked in the lot, walked a short distance, sat on the breakwall and had a beautiful view of the show. I grew up by The Ocean. I now live in Central New York, and every summer, my heart yearns for the shore. As a true beach is a good three hour drive, I finally caved and told myself to go experience the upstate NY "beach." If you are comparing Million Dollar Beach to a beach on an ocean, a bay, or a sound, you'll surely be disappointed. But if you're comparing this beach to one of those beaches, you're also being a silly goose (or nuts, or ridiculous, you can fill in your adjective of choice). This is a lake. The beach is man made. The sand is not the sand you'll find at the ocean. It's rougher and seems to be mixed with mud (you are at a lake). There are no crashing waves at the shore line, but if you sit close to the water, the noise of the water lapping at the sand is still pleasant. The lake gives you a nice view of the mountains and you can watch (and listen to) the Minnie Ha-Ha and Mohawk steamboats pull out of the docks for their hourly tours. This is a lake, but for a lake beach, it's quite nice. The facility is not fancy, but for a beach/park, it is impressive. There are large locker rooms, with plenty of toilets and showers. Little lockers can be rented for .75 cents (bring quarters if you need it). Parking is $10/car but free if you walk in. The left side of the beach is open for dogs, and is narrower than the main (right) portion of the beach that you access by walking through the main facility building. The dog part and the non-dog part is separated, so no intermixing of dog people and dog-free people. The dog portion is also a lot narrower. Not sure why you'd choose that side unless you have your pet with you. The beach isn't pristine, we did need to toss a couple of bottle caps out of the way when setting out our towels, but it is overall pretty clean. There is a snack bar, and sharing an Italian ice was a nice treat when we got a little too hot. Some people complained about the strict rules. The sign on the way in says "no athletic activities." What this seemed to mean is they don't let you play with balls or frisbees in the water, but if you take it on to the beach and away from the sunbathers, you're allowed. The lifeguards enforce the rules well, so follow suit or else you'll be whistled at. Similarly, you'll be whistled at if you go into the water in a section of the beach that doesn't have a lifeguard at the post. If you feel like swimming, set up your stuff near the lifeguards. Ultimately, for a lake and for central New York, Million Dollar Beach fills the immediate need for a day of sun and water. If you are expecting fine sand and waves, hop in your car and drive to Long Island or the Jersey shore. read more

Went for a day at the beach. First parking is $10. A little pricey. We got there early so had a good spot on the beach. There was only one lifeguard so everyone had to swim in one small area. As the day went on it got really busy. The water was refreshing and not too cold but the bottom had a section that felt like wood mulch under your feet. Not too pleasant. The shore could have been raked and the seaweed removed. Next time I would move further down where there was a beach without a lifeguard but more room to move and swim freely. It was cool watching hawks dive in water to grab fish. We also shared the water with some ducks. Gotta love nature! read more

So I stopped into the beauty Million dollar beach located in the heart of Lake George having always wanted to visit I never got around to it until about a mos ago... I was so bored amid cov19 and really feeling down but still wanting to enjoy my summer despite this pandemic, and my fathers poor situation he has some health related issues which ultimately landed him in a Nursing home and unfortunately due to our New York state governor for some reason he kept Nursing homes restricted of all places so people can't visit in person just only window visit. Apparently Nursing homes are more rampade with covid 19 than hospitals, casinos, and resturants. So anyways I decided to check out this beach mask, hand sanitizer and all and I wasn't disappointed I paid a small parking fee for a beautiful day it was gorgeous, sandy beach, blue skies, segals who can complain I definitely will come back here again... read more

Very nice beach to take your family, we loved having lockers available to lock up our belongings, the snack bar was a nice option too, soda refills are $1.50 I think which was great,you can rent beach chairs for $5.00 for the day at the snack bar with a $10.00 deposit, they're bathrooms right at the beach and showers to rinse off, it's $10.00 to park your car and it's very convenient, hopefully in the future they'll open the whole beach not just a small area as it can get busy. read more

Maybe I'm just not a lake girl but I seriously hated this beach. With a name like Million Dollar Beach, I expected it to be the toast of Lake George, especially after so many recommendations from others to go here, but it just wasn't for us. They banned everything from tubes and boogie boards to coolers, sucking the life out of the experience. The sand was rocky and hard to anchor umbrellas in. There was a large cement wall that sat behind us which was unsightly; it just didn't make us feel like we were on a beach. The water was roped off and you could only swim in a small, designated area; though the water did seem clean and was warm. The entry provided decent bathrooms and changing rooms which was helpful. Parking was $10 - better than paying to get on the beach I suppose. But all in all, it just didn't feel like I was experiencing some great lake. If we were to return to Lake George, I'd pick another "beach" to hit. read more

I generally hate "a day at the beach" because I don't like the heat, burn in the sun unless I am dripping with sunblock, and don't really enjoy swimming. However we were up for the day and part of it was to enjoy the beach. As lame as it sounds, I really enjoyed walking around with my shoes off, watching other people (and their dogs) swim around, and in generally just partake in the whole ritual that is walking in the sand holding hands with your loved one. I almost wish I had brought my swim trunks so that I could have gone out farther into the water. The beach was really well maintained and the water was nice and clear. This is the best beach in Lake George. You can park your car all day for $10 in the lot, but the beach itself is free if you want to park elsewhere. The price ensures that the beach doesn't get overcrowded. The beach is well maintained with lifeguards on duty. There is also locker rooms/bathrooms and a snack bar with reasonably priced food. I wish beaches in NJ would take the hint and be as inviting, with low parking rates and no beach tags. This place was easy to access, parking was $10 for the day (and you can leave and return). On premises are a full changing area for men and women. I didn't see any food facilities nearby, but they had no hassle with DIY picnics. Breath taking views of the lake and Adirondacks, and a preview of the attractions offered (steamboat, parasailing). Clear water, no gunk or junk. And the Sandy bottom is smooth, not rocky or sharp. This is a beautiful beach for relaxing. The view up Lake George is stunning, especially if you make sure to arrive at the beach promptly at 10am and beat the rush. The water doesn't get very deep, but it's a nice place for sunbathing and wading. The facilities have dressing stalls, showers, and ample restroom space. Cleanliness is usually on the high side of average. It seems to depend on the lifeguards of the day, but sometimes they restrict beachgoers to certain sections of sand and sometimes they don't. Sections of the water are always opened up (or closed) according to demand. Throwing objects is strictly not allowed in the water (which has always seemed silly to me), but so far playing catch, frisbee, or volleyball does seem to be allowed on the sand, as long as you (or your kids) aren't being jerks with it. Coolers are allowed but glass and alcohol is not. We've always picnicked, but there is a snack stand on site. Pop-ups and lawn chairs also allowed. read more

The beach is fantastic!!! As a local to the adirondack region- living a mere 9 miles south, I may come across a little bias, but I have experienced many state parks and camp grounds, and am very fortunate to say that the LG Million Dollar beach is one of the best maintained public beaches around. Back in 2011 hurricane Irene came through and really damage the water front along the LG village, and since then, the entire village and water front has gone over a much needed make over- and as a result... the beach, the parking, and overall village experience has truley improved. Dont get me wrong, its sad to think that such a horrific tragedy may have catapulted such improvements, but honestly, they were in dire need, well accepted, and made an already great place to visit even better!!! Lake George was recently rated as the best lake in the country by a leading travel guide, followed by the close second Lake Placid- which was home the the 1980 winter olympics. Gotta love it! So when you come out to experience the million dollar beach, travel 90 minutes north and touch down in Lake Placid too! No I am not affiliated with LG, other than being a father of four who loves getting outdoors! So take it from me, and come on out and experience the beach (and village) for yourself! This was our second year taking a trip to million dollar beach. Both times they limited the swimming area to about 1/4 of the beach due to lack of life guards. Lots of people crammed into that area, not pleasant at all. Beautiful views and clean facilities though. Will be looking for another beach in the lake due to the swimming restrictions. read more

Did not use the the beach but rather the boat ramp. While having the boat inspected before launching into the lake, chatted with the DEC boat inspection staff, they are great, very friendly and helpful. Use your Empire Pass for free entry. There are only about 30 parking spaces for trailers so on holiday's, like this years 4th of July, the spots were all taken by 8:00am. We launched our boat and then took the trailer back to the campsite, so not too inconvenient for us as we had an alternate option. read more

This is the beach I usually visit whenever I go to Lake George. If you walk here there is no entry fee is you drive it is $10 to park your car. This is a man made beach but it does the job. There are roped off sections of the lake you can go in with lifeguards on duty, the deepest part you can go in is only about 4 feet or so but it is still nice. The beach and the lake are very clean and the bathroom facilities are huge and clean as well! The view of the whole lake is beautiful from here, it is a nice place to spend a relaxing afternoon! read more
