It's that time of the year when the motorcycles climb out of the garage and decide to head to Lake George to be let loose and set free. This time instead of getting a hotel room costing me an arm and a leg I decided to go to the state hearth stone campground. For just a mere 20 bucks a night I was able to secure a nice wooded space for myself and my awesome ride. Only about 2 miles from the village it is an easy commute to where all the action is happening. Have to say it was a beautiful evening of relaxing pleasure while at the campground. read more

The manager named "Ed" was extremely difficult. I would not recommend to camp here until he leaves, especially while Covid is going on. We had a particularly bad interaction with him in the swimming area. He came up to us, well within 6ft with no mask on, immediately yelling that this area was a "no swim zone." We politely asked him to put a mask on or please back up. We tried to explain we didn't feel safe at the beach area due to the large crowd. We walked to the front to ask the staff where we should swim to socially distance. They suggested the picnic area to us. His response to us was "well I'm in charge, I don't care about a mask and will evict you if I see any of you in the water." It was pretty harsh. We weren't the only group that had an issue with Ed. It was a known joke among several different groups in the camping/beach area we overheard/spoke to that you had to "watch out for him." We have some friends who recommended Hearthstone since they had been camping there for over 20 years and they mentioned that it's never been like that in the past. They said it was Ed's first year on the job and he was brutal towards all the campers and staff. We saw the rest of the weekend Ed consistently break the 6ft barrier, never having a mask on and talking/yelling at all different patrons. Even in the check in area where a mask is required, he was sitting in the 6 x 10 ft enclosed area with no mask on while campers checked in. The rest of the staff was great. Everyone was wearing masks from the front desk area, assistant manager, maintenance teams, campfire wood drop off team, etc. Ed was the only one who was difficult but was also the one closely interacting with the most people. We won't be returning as long as he is managing the campground. read more

All the reviews here are true. Let me start with a rude front desk (an old guy) who gaves us a rude attitude when we checked in. Restroom is disgusting and if you're planning to take a shower go early in the morning or late at night if you don't want to wait. Some of the campsite is near the road so you would really hear the noise from the cars and I'm not sure if they're following the quiet time since some of the campers are still loud past midnight. The only thing we like is the access to the lake. read more

This public campground was convenient in the fact that there are hot showers, real bathrooms, and faucets near tent areas. They also have picnic areas near the lake, however it's a pain to lug all your stuff their and then back to the campground. There is also a beach with life guards, however we preferred to swim away from all the kids near the picnic benches. It's a little Rocky so you may want to bring swim shoes and a floating device. The campground has a lot of space and we didn't feel like we were on top of other campgrounds. There also provided grills at each campsite. I have to say I'm happy we had showers and bathrooms but they were not always the cleanest, especially when it rained so bring flip flops! read more

I stayed here this past weekend (Sunday-Monday) (2 adults + 1 dog) and we had an amazing time. We stayed at site 67, right on the water. Everybody was super friendly, check in was a breeze. The sites were spacious (and many were unoccupied). A new fire pit, plus two picnic tables and plenty of places to hang a hammock. I didn't find the bathrooms to be anything less than average (bc some reviewers addressed this). Town is only 10 minutes away with boat tours, rentals, hiking (Buck was amazing), and food. Can't recommend this location enough - I can't wait to go back already! read more

We have stayed here a few times now and have to say that each time has been Great. The Staff are always nice and more than willing to help out in any way. The grounds are well maintained, each site has ample room for two - three tents or a nice size camper. It is about 1 1/4 miles north of Lake George Village and offers a Trolley Service that picks you up at the main gate. The trolley offers you many different stops along Route 9 and goes through Lake George and points south. For $1.00 a person, it is unique, Fun and for some, the preferred way to get around the Village because of the Parking hassles. Before I forget, down at the lake front, there are Picnic Tables and cookers provided for your use. Everything is spread out so you have enough room to enjoy yourself and have a little privacy. We go to this campground every other year and always pick the same campsite. Most of the campers are families which is great for our kids. The large bathroom and shower facilities are good, cleaned daily. Would be better if people were not such slobs. They are renovating some of the bathroom and shower facilities, they look good. Some of the remote restrooms could use a cleaning to get rid of the webs and bugs. There is a new campground supervisor who is great and addressed some unruly campers immediately. Family oriented beach. Very quiet at night. Highly recommend this campground. read more

Although Hearthstone was clean, beautiful, and many employees were helpful and friendly, I would never visit this campsite again in the future unless I was assured that Ranger Ed no longer works there. Ranger Ed is currently (as of 8/1/20) the head ranger at the park, and his authoritarian attitude and love of power (as well as his love of his position as "the boss") endangers the wellbeing of the camp ground's patrons during the current pandemic. Do no go there if you value your health! After seeing how packed the designated swim area was, my group consulted a camp employee and asked where we could swim safely while also social distancing (I hesitate to mention her name in case Ed retaliates against her. All employees asked us to please report Ed, as they receive complaints about him daily from guests). Our group had floats with us as well, which we knew were not allowed in the swimming area. The helpful employee who we spoke to marked "floats" on the map where she said that Ed had told the entire staff to direct campers if they wanted to float. We got there and prepared to launch the floats but Ed told us we couldn't swim in the picnic area. Although this area was marked "floats" on our map, we exited the picnic area and prepared to launch in a different spot, still within the "float" area on our map. This is when Ed accosted our group, WITHOUT a mask, screaming that it didn't matter if there were no signs about swimming "he was the sign". We asked him to please put a mask on while we spoke. He absolutely refused, saying he didn't need a mask, and screaming at us these exact words: "I don't care about the pandemic!". My interaction with Ed's reckless and callous behavior was the most unsafe I have felt 5 months into this pandemic. Ed threatened to evict us if we got in the water, and having no where else to go we agreed not to swim. This was my first visit to Lake George. I will never be back, as we had to spend the rest of the day watching people float, swim, and do exactly the same thing, in the same spot, that Ed threatened to evict us for. All we wanted to do was social distance during the pandemic and enjoy the lake. Maybe Ed is responding to other reviews about noise in the campsite, and he is trying to crack down, but he has to see that there is something wrong with his approach if he is having confrontations with ever camper he interacts with. Furthermore, we then observed Ed walking around the campsite and even sitting in the check-in booth for the rest of the weekend without wearing a mask. I do not understand how someone in charge could blatantly refuse to wear a mask, even when in the check-in area clearly marked with a sign that said "masks must be worn in this area at all times." Because of Ed and his completely unacceptable and disrespectful behavior, I am reporting this campsite to the state of New York for not abiding by Covid regulations. Ranger Ed is a disgrace to the many people making an effort to keep visitors safe during this difficult time. As a final note, I am a high school teacher, and if I ever spoke to students or conducted myself in the way that Ed does in his position of power, I would be fired without a single doubt in my mind. read more

I mentally filtered out some of the reviews as some of them seemed to be by people who loved to party and that's just not us at this stage in our lives (being in our early 30s and expecting our first baby in October). I'm glad I did. We just returned from two nights at Hearthstone Point last Thursday 6/20 - Saturday 6/22 and I didn't see any of the problems that some people mentioned. If you stay up past 11 partying and disturbing the other people who might be trying to sleep, then yes. You probably will be scolded. Duh. That's just common courtesy. If you want to party late, rent a house or cottage. But the nights we were there, we saw no issues at all. The rangers were really polite, friendly, and helpful. The sites were roomy enough and the restrooms were far better than I could have hoped. I was super psyched to have hot water for showers the next morning and there were even outlets in the bath houses if you needed to run a hair dryer. The only disappointment was that it is quite close to 9N. While I thought I'd booked a site far enough away (#34 - it looked about mid-park on the map), the map scale was smaller than I thought so, while we couldn't see 9N, it was certainly loud at night. If there had been anything else available, we would have booked further down by the lake - which is gorgeous and much quieter. Definitely will remember that in the future, though! I was glad to be close to Lake George Village, though - as we didn't really bring cooking supplies, being close to shops and restaurants was wonderful. I had almost booked at Roger's Rock but am glad I didn't - it's MUCH more remote! read more

My boyfriend and I wanted to get away from it all; No cell phone, no emails, no electricity....just us and nature. However, to be honest neither of us are very experienced campers. Hearthstone campground was our experiment with "tent living", and we were pleasantly surprised with the campground and the amenities. There is a lovely beach down by the lake. I would suggest getting there early for a morning swim. Not only will you have a small piece of the lake to yourself, but its a refreshing start to your day. Every camp site has a fire pit. We had a great BBQ night and enjoyed beers by the fire. It's hard to beat the starry nights and serenity at this campground. The staff is very sweet and helpful. They do have a noise policy after 11, but it's really only if you are super loud. My boyfriend and I just went out to the nearby Lake George Village by cab; had a great time, and no problems coming back to our campsite. The bathrooms were really clean for a campground, and I actually felt clean throughout our time camping. I highly recommend this campground if you are looking for something near the Lake George Village or Bolton Landing area. We will return. read more

My boyfriend and I just spent 3 nights tent camping here. We booked site 26 about a week in advance. We choose these grounds due to the unbeatable price! It was also about a 5-10 min drive to town. The few buildings on the campgrounds are very rustic. Bathrooms were decent, all though very old, as well as the hot showers. Very hot water in the showers, which I liked, but you can't control the temperature. Also the showers are run by a pull chain or a button, which only runs for a few minutes until you run out or push it again. I'm assuming they did this to conserve water. The plain bathrooms only have cold water, but during the summer it doesn't really matter. All the bathrooms were equipped with soap and lots of toilet paper. There was an outdoor sink near the bathrooms with soap and cold water to wash your dishes and what not. On our site (26) we had a stone fireplace and a picnic table. Most of the sites had lots a trees and shade. It was a decent size and pretty private for a camp site. Though it was close to the main highway and you can hear the cars drive by. It was very close to the showers and bathrooms with out being right next to them. The beach was a bit of a walk down a large hill but you could drive down and park in a large lot. There was plenty of charcoal grills and picnic benches near the beach. Also a cute gazebo type structure that looks down onto the beach. Beach was mostly sandy with some rocks. Life guards were also on duty and there was a designated buoy swim area. I brought my kayak and paddle board and we easily launched from the beach. Overall opinion: I think it was pretty decent for camping. And I'd go back again especially at $25 a night. read more

Stayed for 6 days total this past July 4th holiday. The grounds itself has mulch with soil, gravel and clay underneath to keep the rains from flooding the site. Our actual space 131 was very large. Every site has a picnic table and 2 grills/fire pits. Other campers are spaced apart sufficiently. Most campers are families or couples, no rowdiness. On the other side where you would cross the street, there is a beach area that you can frolic at. Proximity to Shepard Park and the Lake George village strip was approximately 5-10 min. We were close by to the restrooms. That was the biggest con- the restrooms and showers were dirty and Disgusting. The restrooms near shower were larger so the toilet paper would run our quicker, yet was not replenished in a timely manner. The smaller restroom was stocked, but were always dirty. For this reason, I give the site a 3 rating. read more

Came here with about 10+ people and spread out over 3 sites. The sites were in good shape but kind of close together. The fire pits, at least in the sites we stayed at we're in pretty bad shape. I didn't bother to go to other peoples sites to check out the rest of them so maybe we got the bad lot. The ranging staff was a mix of friendly and unfriendly. A few people were very friendly and helpful. Another set of them were unfriendly, unhelpful and one ranger was a complete jerk. The one night we were up we were drinking and having a good time and as usual when camping we lost track of time. So when the rangers came walking around they told us we were being too loud and that it was past quiet hours. So we apologized and started cleaning up to head to bed. He came back in about 5 minutes yelling at us that we promised him we would keep it down. When all that was happening was the few people who stay up after his first visit were just cleaning up the site... There was maybe the sound of bottles clinking as they were going in the garbage and some low conversation. He actually singled out one of the guys and started yelling at him, threatened to have the state police come and take him away. His volume level was probably twice as loud as we were before we quieted down, all and all I thought this was a little nuts and completely uncalled for. And there was another ranger with him that didn't say a thing, he either agreed or also thought this guy was as off his rocker as we did. This spot is easy on the wallet and is just a stone's throw away from all of the action taking place down in the village of Lake George. The staff here are very friendly and helpful as well. Where a few of the sites seem to be on top of each other, most are spacious and well-located. The shower area wasn't the greatest place I've ever hosed off in, but I am camping and am just fortunate to be able to rinse off at all. There is a nice, small beach and an area to picnic (or fish, in my case) down by the lake. I've visited here plenty of times before, and will continue to on subsequent trips to Lake George. read more

I stayed five nights at Hearthstone Point in August 2016. It has a few aspects going to it including affordable pricing, a nice swimming beach with life guard, and proximity to Lake George Village. You can see a lot of stars from the beach at night, although you can't see the Lake George Village fireworks. The sites themselves are very small, close together and poorly maintained. There was a lot of small trash on the ground at our site including bottle caps, cigarette butts and food wrappers. The sites are so close that you can clearly hear all of your neighbors conversations. I was up until 1 AM listening to drunk neighbors on two sides and a complaining kid on a third side until a park ranger came over and threatened to kick them all out of the campground. It's a pretty uncomfortable situation whether you are a quiet group, traveling with children or looking to party. The nail in the coffin for this campground is the bathroom and shower facilities. I understand that a campground bathroom is not going to be immaculate and there will be a few bugs but the facilities were disgusting, the worst I have seen. The bathrooms were packed with daddy long legs spiders and looked like they were rarely cleaned. The showers on the lake side of the campground looked like a scene from a horror movie and have probably never been cleaned. Avoid at all costs! The showers on the other side of the road are newer but still not regularly cleaned, use these if you must. The campground does not have a store but there is a nice general store just down the road on your right as you are driving toward Lake George Village. Look for the sign advertising firewood and fresh local produce. I would not stay here again. read more

Great campground, great location! The campground is split in two, definitely try and reserve early and get a site on the water side. The wooded side is good but sites are smaller, and walking to the lake is a plus. Either way be wary of the sites near 9N as it will be noisy. Showers are better on the wooded side. Would recommend this to anyone looking for easy camping who can deal with family campground noise. read more

All the other campgrounds in lake George were sold out so I did not have much of a choice. I read some of the negative reviews and I was nervous for our stay here. BUT I HAVE A TIP FOR YOU!!!! If you stay on the other side of the main road (not near the beach) security leaves you alone. It was nice and quiet and they even let us pick out a campsite! We picked a nice big site near a bathroom. No one ever got in trouble for being noisy, in fact we hardly saw security; THAT BEING SAID, when we drove to the other side of the campsite to go check out the beach a man on a golf cart stopped us within 30 seconds to ask if we had our camping pass. Which we did. The way he asked was rude, as if he was waiting for us to say no so he could yell at us. I could clearly tell that this side of the campground was more controlled it felt like being a kid and trying to go under the radar stay out of trouble. Truly ridiculous. Many of the sites near the beach were gorgeous, they said they were sold out; however many of them appeared to remain empty the entire weekend.??? If you plan on going here- pick out a site on the other side of the highway so you can have more fun and the workers wont bother you. ALSO the sites near the highway are noisy so dont be afraid to pick a site all the way up. read more

Been camping here with family for years, it has its pros and cons. I was recently there the first week of August. It was a wonderful 4 days the weather was great(little rain), showers had hot water, bathrooms were ok, but hey we are outdoors. Any and all staff I encountered during my stay was kind and courteous. So of course kids cant go any where without cell phones, they charged up in the car needless to say drained my battery. I called the office and they sent a crew within 20 minutes to jump start me and we were on our way !!! Thank you hearthstone staff, see you next year!! read more

5 Star: Hearthstone overall. I love the campground, have been coming here at least once a summer for over a decade. It's got a great location and we've always enjoyed it's proximity to the town (just a trolly ride away) but quietness and access to the lake. Bathrooms are better (cleaners/newer/ more private shower stall) on the non-lake side, just a quick car ride over. 1 Star: Unfortunately the last time we went we encountered very rude/disorganized staff. We miss Fred Parker- the park ranger that ran this place for the last 40 years. He was always accommodating, polite and the place never had problems- people respected the rules and the grounds. The current staff seems to think letting anything slide (even rules they have made up) will result in chaos. Our particular issue involved checking in just before 9pm and then instead of setting up, we ran to get a few last minute supplies. When we came back around 10pm we quietly set up and were confronted by a ranger who was not happy we had not initially set up when we checked in (not a posted rule anywhere we could find). Apparently there was a credit card issue (we found out in the AM they had messed up by giving someone else's site-not ours- the receipt that was the 'store copy' and needed record of the signature). He was extremely abrasive and made a scene about why we hadn't retained the paperwork we were given, why our parking pass was on the wrong side of the windshield and that it was quiet hours (fairly certain he made more noise than we had been making with our tent rustling). We felt like criminals- not customers. Got to do better to keep our business. read more

We stayed here for the 4th of July, but really as a place to sleep after Dave Matthews concert in Saratoga. I was immediately disappointed that the campground is up against a main road and the traffic noise was very loud. It also seemed that locals beep as they go by every time. Anyways, the campsites were very small and very open. No separation between sites at all. The bathrooms were gross... none of the doors lock, so that was odd and many toilets were only covered by a curtain. In the women's room, the lack of trash cans in the stalls led to some pretty gross disposal of hygiene items. I'll leave that to your imagination and spare you the details, but it was every bit as disturbing as you're picturing. The beach was fine, but the swimming area is very small and don't think about relaxing. The lifeguards will be sure to scream into megaphones in 30 second intervals. The staff was inconsistent. Some people were very helpful but others were rude and we had a run in with one ranger who I think was having a mental break or is just the world's rudest human. There is a 12:00 curfew to be in the park. We arrived late because the concert traffic, but I don't think we deserved the screaming that ensued. He checked to see who was in the car and when he realized one of our friends hadn't been registered he completely lost it. He was YELLING at her for smiling and then continued to yell at our friend who made the booking. He accused us of all being rude and said that he was tempted to call the police and refuse our entry. What a way to talk to paying customers.... I will not be returning. read more

Camped here last weekend (8/16-8/18) with 8 of my friends. We went to the lake, partied well after 11pm on Friday and Saturday nights with no problems, and a good time was definitely had by all. So why not 5 stars? The shower situation was not good. 1. They were filthy (at least the one I was in was) and 2. they shut themselves off after 30 seconds and had to constantly be turned back on, AND the lights kept going off because there are no light switches in the stalls, just motion sensors. I actually had to keep getting in and out so that the lights would come back on. Other than that, we'd probably come back. read more

I stayed here this past weekend with family and wasn't very impressed. There's a ton of noise from the road and the bathroom facilities were disgusting. If a campground has bathrooms and showers, they should be cleaned, these were not. The state of Vermont does a much better job with its campgrounds... The beach was also only open from 10am - 5pm, which was fairly annoying given that it's July. The concrete fire pits on the campsites were also quite beaten up and broken. read more

We had site 163 and the bathroom right next to us was DISGUSTING to say the least. The toilets must not have been cleaned in years and were always so backed up with waste that using them was impossible. The outside was a cleaner place to do your business then the facility that you pay for. The showers stunk of urine and I wouldn't have bathed my dog in them. Just came back from 5 days/4 nights at Hearthstone Point Campground on Lake George with my family. It was wonderful. The campground provides sites beneath magnificent mature trees, so you're protected from the sun. I thought I knew what a white pine was until I took in the ones at Lake George - some are over 3' in diameter and over 100' tall. Truly awe inspiring. The bathrooms and showers are decent and meet the need. Fresh water faucets are readily available. The campground is right on the lake and has a swim and picnic areas. We brought our boat and were able to moor it right off the campground for free. The local marina's wanted to charge me $60 a night (?!?) for my 16' boat. Bring a good anchor and plenty of anchor line and you'll have your boat close by at zero cost. We paid $117 for 4 nights/5 days of camping. A ridiculously great bargain; bad rooms in local hotels cost more for one night. The commercial camp grounds, which aren't even on the lake, want $45+ per night. The campground IS right off Lake Shore Drive (Rt 9N). If car noise gets under your skin, get one of the sites further from the road. As for convenience, the town of Lake George is 5 minutes down the road, a Super Walmart is 20 minutes away and a bag of ice ($2) is two minutes up the road at the local deli (where they also make a nice egg n ham on a kaiser roll). Nothing you need is far away, yet you're camping in beautiful, mature woods. The lake itself is magnificent. Crystal clear, clean, cool, huge, with many islands and bays to explore. The fishing is extraordinary - bass, lake trout, salmon, pike, perch... If you live in an urban area, you need to check out the stars on a clear night. It'll blow you away - there's little light pollution so the stars rule the night sky. I see some people trashing the place because the State employees who run it insist on quiet after 10pm. This is a family campground. If your looking for some place to party and howl the night away, this isn't the place. If you're looking for an awesome family camping experience for very little money, this is the place. read more

1 star for the staff, 1 star for the "beach", 1 star for the actual place. All three were good. The bathroom situation was disgusting!!! The toilets had a shower curtain that was way too small for the doorway and the other had saloon style doors that had a 4 inch gap in between each other and both doors to the door frame. So everyone walking through to see if any toilets are available can see you in the pooper. That can really constipate a person. Lol read more

This is a great campground with amazing beach access. Some of the best views in Lake George. This is not a partying campground there is more of a family feel. The staff has always been friendly and we go up every year. Campsites are a good size with beautiful views and scenery. My only complaint is that this year the bathrooms were dirtier than usual. So many spiders! I do suggest the showers on the non- lakeside as they are newer and cleaner. This is a great place to stay when you come to lake George. read more

Just stayed here this past weekend (7/10-7/12) with a few friends and wanted to write a review to share how unfairly I feel my friends and I were treated by one of their staff members IMMEDIATELY UPON ARRIVAL. After first speaking to a kind woman at the front desk about changing our site number (it was directly behind the check in booth, too out in the open for us) she nicely told us the sites available and to go drive past them to see which ones we liked and come back to confirm. When we came back we were helped by a new lady by the name of Catherine who immediately caught an attitude with me out of nowhere, scolding me and my friends for allegedly saying we were "partiers" when we were at the booth before(which we never said) and that she would make sure we were evicted off the premesis by park rangers if we made any loud noise during the night. Now, I understand those are the rules and I would have been fine with her pointing them out to me if she hadnt done it in such a nasty way and made false assumptions about my friends and I simply because we were a group of young college aged students. We had no intentions of "partying" and we were a small group of 5. What really ticked me off, however, was that she SENT A PARK RANGER TO CHECK ON OUR SITE that night. How do i know it was her that sent him you ask? Because the first thing he said upon arrival was "Is this the campsite of partiers?" We were of course being very quiet and not partying in any way shape or form so we had no problem with the ranger but I am truly disgusted with Catherines behavior and for that reason alone will not be attending this campsite ever again. If you are a younger group of people looking for a relaxing weekend filled with nature, look elsewhere because clearly Hearthstone Point (or at least Catherine) does not welcome you. read more

The campground itself was pleasant however the staff was a different story. The moment we pulled up to register our names and cars, we felt very uncomfortable with the woman at the sign in hut using fowl language and sexual comments that were extremely inappropriate. We were also not given one complaint the first night we were there, however it took until 7 PM the next night for the park ranger to come over and belittle us and would not give us a reason for the complaint. The second night we had others complain about sipping a few cocktails by our fire while enjoying each other's company. We were approached multiple times between 7-10 pm. Meanwhile there were screaming children all hours of the day/night but got away with it... As well as people letting off fireworks all throughout the night. These so called "rangers" or park police were absolutely rude and quite frankly the most miserable human beings on the planet. If you're trying to have a good time in any way i would never recommend this place, ever. If your willing to zip your mouths through all hours of the night, this is the perfect place for you. read more

I came here last weekend with a group of 12 adults and 18 children, for a weekend camping trip for my birthday. I was a little apprehensive about spending the weekend here due to previous reviews, but the price was right and it had a beach on the Lake so we made a reservation for 5 sites. This campground should rename itself the Lake George State Prison because we honestly felt like we were being micro-managed the entire time. We tried to change a campsite from 185 to 181, and we were told 181 was booked for both nights. Lo and behold, no one checked into that site the entire weekend. There was a severe rainstorm most of the day on Saturday, which left us with not much to do. We kept the kids entertained, and took a few walks in the evening when it finally cleared up. Around 8:30pm, part of our group went down to the beach with a few adults and children. The Park Ranger came by our site saying this group was rowdy and loud, however, quiet time does not start until 10pm. We were doing our best to keep 18 bored kids entertained, and some loudness is to be expected with a large group in the evening. This group had consisted of two adults supervising about 4 children, so it wasn't like we were letting our kids run around buckwild. He mentioned they were dealing with a missing person, however, that doesn't mean our kids had to have their weekend ruined by an uptight Park Ranger. We then had the Police stop by our site around midnight, when only 4 of us were awake and quietly making food. He told us they were called because of bad language. Last time I checked, profanity is not illegal and is used amongst adults with no children present. It just seemed like this campsite was going out of their way to ruin our weekend. The bathrooms here are completely inexcusable. The one closest to our site was filled with over 20 large spiders, to the point where all of our little girls refused to use the restroom. I understand we are camping, and near a lake, so some spiders are to be expected. However, I don't think it's too much to ask for them to be cleaned out regularly so they are more kid friendly. The showers seemed to be recently updated, but they were also not clean. I went there Sunday morning around 8am to shower, and the stalls were literally covered in dirt, and one had a used tampon on the floor! Absolutely disgusting. Overall, we will not be returning to this campsite and do not recommend it for anyone looking to have a fun weekend. read more

I have been going to Hearthstone Campground at least once a year for about 6 years. Unfortunately, this past weekend was my last time there. My friends and I have never had a problem before but this year was different. Ranger Steven Morrissey made our (shortened, mind you) stay a living hell. He is the most rude human being I've ever had to deal with in my entire life. I wouldn't talk to a cockroach the same way he talked to my friends and I. He humiliated and belittled us. The night before we left the campgrounds he had the cops show up to our site. The officers were very nice and said that we were being quiet and that if we continued like that we wouldn't have any problems. However, if you are whispering or even breathing Ranger Morrissey will show up and talk to you like you're nothing and order you to go into your tent. He kept showing up to our site saying he was getting noise complaints even though we could clearly hear our neighbors snoring in their tents. "Quiet hours" at this place should be called "silent hours". My friends and I in no way shape or form disrespected him and would just say "Okay" to whatever he said but he would not change his tone and would be rude 100% of the time. We heard from one of the other rangers that work there that there have been multiple complaints about Ranger Morrissey and we also read some Yelp reviews about other people's bad experiences with him. It makes me wonder why in the world he's still there treating people so horribly. I'm never returning to this place again unless this ranger is no longer there and they replace him with someone who knows how to talk to people in a respectful manner!! read more

Very unhappy with this campground, no private sites. It's like one big commune campsite. Kids running and screaming around early in the am and late in the pm. Did I mention NO PRIVACY. All the trees, wooded areas have been destroyed and feels like you're in tents city. Sits in the middle of Route 9, lots of traffic and too many people, guess that's NY. Pain to get your boat in the water. The worst experience camping ever! And had to pay a huge penalty fee on top of it all because of their lack off real camping atmosphere. I've been camping at Hearthstone Campgrounds for many years and this time will be the last! Ranger Steven Morrissey is the reason. I felt discriminated against due to my race. He kept going to our site and harrassing us even though we weren't doing anything wrong. He also kept falsely accusing us of many things that other campers from other sites were doing. People on some neighboring sites were doing fireworks and he showed up and said we were the ones doing it. One of the times he showed up, he said he was receiving noise complaints even though we could hear our neighbors snoring. He disrespected my wife by being extremely rude to her and a lot of our friends. This ranger needs to go through a special training program in order for him to learn how to deal with people. He was rude to my group 100% of the time. He needs to learn how to respectfully speak to people. He needs someone to help him because apparently the stress is getting to his head. This campground needs more rangers who know how to treat patrons the way they deserve to be treated. He felt entitled to ordering my friends and I around because we are Latinos. We didn't disrespect him in any way but still ended up getting kicked out of the campgorunds for unfair reasons. We had 3 little kids in our group who were extremely upset by the whole situation and blamed themselves. They are now traumatized to go camping again;scared they will "make too much" noise playing. Another ranger was giving us information for other campgrounds and Ranger Morrissey told her not to because we wouldn't be allowed there either. I am a law-abiding, tax-paying citizen and have every right to use that campground. I am only 1 of 18 of the group of people who were kicked out. RACISM is NOT the answer! read more

Two working showers for hundreds of women....not good. I was told that the mens showers was the same thing. Site not cleaned when we arrived--ended up raking the whole thing. Staff was friendly at check-in--the younger staff that is. Bathrooms very far away--map on website is very deceiving when trying to select a site online. Very much a an "adult party" type campground. Very disappointed that the partiers have no respect for families that are trying to camp---they party well into the night and were not "shut down" by the staff patrols even though they went by the party folks many times. If you are headed out for a g-rated camping trip and showers that work--don't pick Hearthstone. read more

My family and I have been going to Hearthstone point for years now and have always loved it until this year. The campground is clean, with very tight camping spots, a small bathing area/beach, and with hot showers and fulling functioning bathrooms. Since the sites are so small, you will hear a sneeze in the site next to you. Having said that, quiet time starts at 10pm sharp. We have never really had a problem with it- maybe here and there a ranger has come by to say kindly keep it down which of course was never a problem. This year, we got carried away with a game of beer pong so the cheering got a bit louder than we hoped. At 10:20pm, the ranger "Stephen" came by to which we immediately quieted down and apologized. We are a group in our mid-late thirties so it was not like we we intoxicated and belligerent. The Ranger Stephen began scolding us as if we were his children, forbid anyone to SPEAK or apologize, and ordered us to our tents to sleep. I was taking this lightly until one girl perked up and said we're really sorry we lost track of time to which he yelled- "I DON"T F*&$$NG CARE!" Listen, I understand we were being a little loud; however, we were not breaking anything, we weren't being rude (other than being a little loud), we were celebrating a birthday, it was 20 minutes past 10pm, and it could have been handled in a much more mature, respectful manner. Ranger Stephen looked to be about 60-70 years old and we were all adults. NO ONE should speaking to us that way. I am a paying customer and a faithful one at that up until this year. Other friends of ours also had a similar altercation with Ranger Stephen when they pulled up in their car into the site with 2 other campers from another site in their car. He again spoke extremely disrespectful to one of the ladies in the car. In both of these situations Ranger Stephen was interrupted by the husbands because he was being very rude to their wives to which he became even louder. After 2 days of reviewing this experience in my head, I was still shocked of how we were spoken to. I went to the office to make a formal complaint. We were told that they receive many complaints about Stephen and there was probably nothing to be done. I still asked for his supervisor. I spoke to the groundskeeper, Cherie, who let us know from the log that he reported we were being loud and playing beer pong. I don't know why beer pong had anything to do with the complaint. I didn't think that was forbidden. Cherie listened to our story and responded with "well, you've been here before so you should know the rules [of the 10pm quite time]"" Cherie said she would "talk to [Stephen] about it." That is all we got. I expected an apology or even a shocked face form Cherie from our story of the way he spoke to us. Nothing. I don't know how businesses stay open with this sense of entitlement and horrible, unprofessional customer interaction. Perhaps the campground should designate quiet areas for those who want a silent vacation? Regardless, they really need to learn how to treat people. I ended up leaving a day early just because I was so disgusted of how I was spoken to and how it did not seem to bother the grounds keeper one bit. If one of my employees were to speak to one of my customers that way they would be immediately terminated. That is how you run a business. There would be no pardon for their age or excuse for that behavior, especially toward the women. I was raised to speak to all people- young, old, black, white, male and female- with respect in all situations. I was horribly disappointed with Hearthstone Point this year and I will be sure to share my experience and the lack of concern in the deplorable behavior of their employees. read more
