Although short at only two miles from…read moretrailhead to summit, you'll need proper shoes for this hike and you will warm up due to the steep grade and moderate rock scrambling. We took the red trail all the way to the top and we took the blue trail on the way down (it merges with the red trail). I'm giving four stars because the trail marking are really good, except where they aren't and just disappear for a while or entirely. The red trail is mostly well marked, though there were still times when we just had to keep heading up the mountain because we couldn't find the next marker. On our way down, the blue trail was really, really well marked until it just stopped and we could not find another marker. I'm not a fan of going off trail because I know it can be dangerous and it can be damaging to local ecosystems, but without a clear trail to follow and nearly a mile into the woods, we did the best we could (kept heading downhill and to the right hoping to find the red trail, but eventually finding the road anyway). If you start at the trailhead, you will walk up metal stairs and onto a walkway over the highway. From there, you'll follow the trail about a mile up where you will find a road. Beware of traffic, cross the road, and you'll have another mile to go to reach the summit (you can take red or blue trail) where there is a parking lot and great viewing.

First time camping in New York, and I must say we couldn't have picked a better spot to begin at…read more NOTE: If you must have access to wifi at your site or in most part of the campground or the general vicinity, (un)fortunately, you won't find it here. But miraculously our older teens actually said it was nice because we could actually talk and spend time with each other. Our 2-night camping at Northampton Beach campground (NY state parks) offered us what we really needed - a peaceful camping experience surrounded by pines and hardwood with clear waters of Sacandaga lake just a few min walk away. I would have certainly given 5 stars had the park offered a trail system for hiking. In the absence of it, the campground receives a strong "4". I always look for information on particular sites and feel like I hit a jackpot every time a camper posts a picture or comment about a particular site. So, for that reason, we stayed at site 10 with the campsite backing into an inlet (is that what it is called) of the lake. The site offered adequate spacing from neighboring sites and was 2 sites (or about 1/2 min) walk to the bathroom and water spigot. Oh, the sites are no hookups which we didn't mind at all. Oh, regarding negative comments posted about this park...we had absolutely no issue with any staff during our stay. they were extremely pleasant and helpful. Other campers were pleasant as well. Only complaint I have is that on the morning of our departure, someone a few sites away started chopping wood before 7am. Yes it was really loud and really obnoxious. Few highlights: 1. Bugs - when we checked in on Saturday in late July, there were few bugs around in the afternoon. A light spray of deep woods type of bug repellent did the trick. Also, even though the site is by water, this did not result in extra buggy atmosphere. All in all, considering we were in "their" environment, I would call this a pleasant campground with hardly any nuisance from the "natives". 2. Bathroom/Showers - clean and generally well-kept. Showers were bit of a walk from site 10, but since you go there only once, and at most two times a day, no big deal. Plenty of bathrooms with flush toilets throughout the campground and the beach. Wish they kept the soap dispenses filled though. 3. Sites - a mix of level, large sites with plenty of trees to smaller, unlevel sites. Site 10 was large and level. 4. Things to do - THE LAKE and the picnic groves. You can definitely spend the whole day with a picnic/grilling by the lakeside in the sun or in the shade. Most lakes/waterside camping hardly offer shade, so I loved this about this park. Tall pine tree picnic groves with plenty of access to grills, bathrooms, water spigots. Water is clean and there is lifeguard presence. You can rent kayaks too. All in all, perfect spot regardless of whether you are a beach type or just sit in the shade and read a book type (me). Can't wait to go back for at least 3 nights next time.

The bathrooms are a hot mess and dark (at least by campsites 1-30) and the showers are beat as well. Beach is nice, water is great, but the rules posted are not the rules they go by. Case in point, the paperwork said you can have two cars but check in says one, and charged our second car $10. I probably wouldn't return. Also the grate over the grill was too spaced and we couldn't put anything smallish on it and had to buy disposable grates.

Honesty' Well, I will give Lake George a 4 rating for ambiance... clearly for its recreational warmth and a very tasteful (3) on the culinary apprise for all venue date-night seekers. That's if you're hungry for anything else, other than fresh "fish". I've experience a beautiful channel of water ways. Pilot channel with scenic sidewalks and remote bayside channel of restaurants and family oriented activities. But' My choice was the fish and I did not experience that. Hook line and sinker? "Nemo" he's my favorite! My opinion is this Lake George "Reservoir needs-a fish revival.‍ That's it'... where are the damn fish. Stock this channel with a variety of choice -like fish. And, this reservoir monument will be a historic go-to-place....forever. You've been informed.

Although we didn't make the tour (sold out), we drove up anyway to see if we could rent snowshoes to hike the trails on our own. Fortunately, there were plenty of snowshoes to go around - including kids/toddler sizes! - despite the tour group before us which I was afraid would clear out the snowshoe racks. But that was not at all the case! Rick and Linda at the Center could not have been lovelier or more helpful. Rick walked us through the trail map, pointing out where the tour group had gone (who would've broken in the snow for us), and being mindful of the fact that we were hiking with a small child who may or may not have a meltdown somewhere along the way, and how far into the hike it is likely to happen, from experience. I pulled out AllTrails to help with navigation, and Rick told us he actually created the GPS tracks for the property in the app! There are 3 miles of hiking trails across the 73-acre property, well marked with blazes and easy to follow. The woods were so beautiful and serene in the fresh snow. My child enjoyed the StoryWalk on the Sugar Trail and had me read the story to him. In addition to the educational exhibits in the farmhouse welcome center & museum (including some cute turtles!), the Center offers a variety of environmental education programs throughout the year (birds, butterflies, wildlife, night sky, hikes, field guides, crafting, seasonal events, etc.). It is now maple sugaring season so you can learn about the process and visit the sugarhouse when it's open. In the summer, you can see the butterfly garden, picnic by the pond, and explore the grounds with vistas of Lake George. We loved our visit to Up Yonda Farm, and the snowshoe hike turned out to be the highlight of our weekend. What a magical experience for all seasons!

I recently visited Up Yonda Farm Environmental Education Center for their maple-making tour and…read moreabsolutely loved it! This was my first time visiting and it was such a fun experience. The snowy setting made it even more special. We walked along a path through the woods while learning about how maple syrup is made. It was really interesting to hear about the history of maple sugaring and see the progression of tools that have been used over time. One of my favorite parts was the tasting. At the very beginning we got to try raw maple sap, and later we tasted the syrup fresh after it had been made. It honestly changed my mind about maple syrup -- I used to not like it, but tasting it fresh made me appreciate it so much more. There is plenty of parking, and the bathrooms are right next to the parking lot. After parking, you walk up to the main house to check in. The tour starts off to the side of the house near a fire pit, which was a nice gathering spot. At the end of the tour they served French toast sticks with different maple syrups to try, which was delicious and a perfect way to finish the experience. Overall, this was such a fun family-friendly event. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique outdoor activity and a great way to learn about maple syrup!

Limited to no cell service. Bathrooms are nice which is great especially if you are tenting, though they are only cleaned on a semi-regular basis. Laundry room only has one washer and dryer but are in good condition. There's also a handy small convenience store. Management unfortunately is another story. The son is good, however the mother is not. Seemed evident she made a passive-aggressive effort to make the stay less than pleasurable which was apparent from reservation through checkout, and jumps to all kinds of conclusions. Like she was somehow inconvenienced or put out and also doesn't listen well as a result. She's certainly glad when you leave. She repeatedly does a very poor job of even the most basic accounting and dates, but somehow you're the one at fault. She also gets way too wound up and in your business should you dare have a visitor (like holy smokes, lady, chill out), and nosy in general. She's the only thing that brings the place down, otherwise they'd easily be 4-5 stars. :(

This is a great public beach lake in Bolton Landing. It's not huge, but there is plenty of space…read morefor the kids to run around and play. They keep a large area of the lake roped off and it's perfect for small kids to splash around and play. There is also a large dock area that my kids had fun jumping off of. Other things to note - there's a lifeguard on duty, parking is cash only (or you can find street parking) and there's a public bathroom with a changing area. If you don't bring food on the beach you are just steps away from downtown Bolton dining options. We'll typically stay at a hotel that has a lakefront area, but before check-in this was a wonderful option. Get hot in the lake and walk over to the brewery across the street for a cold brew!
