I'm so glad we stayed in the Dorsoduro district in Venice, it's more peaceful than touristy San Marco area.
You can actually view local life while walking around this part of town, Campo Santa Margarita is the place to hang out. Quirky shops, a farmers market in the morning, bars and restaurants abound. We stumbled upon this place while passing through.
It's a casual space with an open kitchen along with small wooden tables and chairs (not the most comfy!) We looked at the menu and when in Venice, you can't go wrong with anything seafood. The swordfish carpaccio was absolutely fresh! the accoutrements couldn't be more simple: caperberries, olives, sundried tomatoes and drizzled with olive oil. Why does this taste so amazing? well, it was probably bought from the market that same day! Pair this with a refreshing Venetian spritz made with aperol and club soda and you're set.
The pasta of the day was lasanga. While it was delicious, it was a bit pricier than usual for a small serving at €8. Plus, we saw them heat it up in the microwave! Oh my. Microwaves in Italy?! If I had an Italian nonna, she'd have a heart attack! ;) read more
