Unaware of the fact that we must call ahead to make reservations, we showed up at the front step. After a giving us somewhat of a hard time for not calling and our sincerest apologies, the owner, Issa, has refused to let us go away hungry and showed us in. Turns out that we arrived right after a huge wedding party and more apologies from our side, Issa served us some wine and drinks and disappeared into the kitchen to begin preparations. I won't go into too the details of each dish (not to ruin the surprise for you ;) ) but we were presented with course after course of Jordanian delicacies including various mezze (small plates such as baba ghanoush) and several main dishes. We shared: breaded white asparagus with grilled green asparagus, green asparagus sauce beurre blanc, and grated egg yolk; stuffed squid with potatoes, green beans, calamari ragout, pistachio pesto, spring caponata, calamari sauce, and pistachio crumble; paccheri with shrimp ragout, seared shrimp, fava beans, and pea sauce; lasagna with rabbit ragout, pepper sauce, jalapeno sauce, yellow bell peppers, and Parmesan bechamel; and apricot tiramisu. We enjoyed a great bottle of wine and a couple of espressos with dessert as well. Every dish was great, but that stuffed squid is one I'm going to be thinking about for a long time. The tasting menu consists of 5 seafood courses and 5 glasses of wine. If you didn't have a reservation, you didn't get in. They had eight tables. No written menu, four choices of starters, firsts and seconds. Everything we ordered was delicious. Everyone else was local which seemed strange for a restaurant listed on a tourist map. Seemed like you were eating in someone's home, great atmosphere. Gave it 4 rather than 5 due to service that was somewhat lacking in friendliness.

This place was amazing…read more I got into Trieste late, and all the restaurants were closing up and only serving drinks. Le Vele allowed me to order a sandwich. I ordered their Supremo burger. It came out fantastic. It was one of the best burgers I've had in my life. Also, their Aperol Spritz was super delicious. Service was top-notch. And, the atmosphere sitting next to the canal is super laid back.
