It's peaceful, scenic, and perfect for a quiet walk, a photo session, or just relaxing with a coffee while enjoying the view. There's public parking, and depending on the day, you might even find an ice cream truck. A few blocks away, you'll find restaurants and cafes, making it a great stop before or after a meal. You can even walk or bike the entire stretch from Weehawken to West New York along the waterfront. Whenever I'm in the area, I make it a point to stop here even just for a few minutes. It never disappoints.

Losen Slote Creek Park is a small nature park located in Little Ferry. The following was copied…read morefrom njwildlifetrails.org: SITE DESCRIPTION: Located in Little Ferry, this 28-acre lowland forest and meadow habitat was protected in 1990 by an agreement between the Borough of Little Ferry and the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission. Losen Slote Creek Park is adjacent to Mehrhof Pond and centers on the impounded Losen Slote Creek, a former tidal tributary of the Hackensack River. It offers a nature trail and seating areas. Mehrhof Pond is fenced in for safety reasons by the Bergen County Utilities Authority, but you can walk along the road and peer though the fence to scan the pond for waterfowl. The Pond was named after the Mehrhof family, who owned a brick-making operation in the late 19th century. Huge clay deposits were found throughout the Meadowlands, so brick-making was an attractive business. A large clay deposit on the eastern side of the site was mined and the remaining pit is now a viable freshwater pond. The area is a botanical treasure trove, including damp and wet woodlands, thickets, ephemeral streams and several distinct meadow types. The park has a few flat, dirt trails that snake through forest and meadows. The trails I ran on were about 1 mile. I am not into birding, but the area is popular for bird lovers. Unfortunately the pond area is fenced off. To get here take Mehrhof road to the gravel lot at the end of Crescent street. The entrance is near the street hockey rink. The park is a nice little oasis tucked away in the meadowlands.

Basically... visiting this spot for the first time in August probably wasn't ideal. Complaining aside - as mentioned in other reviews... the address is correct. You can't see it or believe it but push past the town's recycling center and the recreation park's parking lot and head into the dense forest and you'll finally see the "LOSEN SLOTE" sign. The entire tract of land is surprisingly large. Very little of it is 'paved' (minus maybe two sections of 'duckboard') - although you'll see plenty of yellow and blue markers, I guess to help guide you as to where to walk and explore. (Which might come in handy since some of the 'park' seems to bleed into the backyards of some of the homes in the area.) I went around dusk, the entire scene felt like the beginning of a horror movie... eerily silence except once in a blue a random 'thing' seemed to fall from a tree, a handful of deer showing off how nimble they were by jumping over felled trees and streams (all the while eyeing me suspiciously) and of course... I was slowly being devoured by all of God's hungry arthropods. One and done, but happy to have explored a part of Jersey I'd never been to.

Along the riverfront it's paved and there is an amphitheater-style seating area, where you can sit and gaze at the Manhattan (and Jersey City) skyline. The park's path connects directly to the 18.5 mile long Hudson River Waterfront Walkway that runs from the Bayonne Bridge to the George Washington Bridge. The parking lot is small and there is not much other public parking within walking distance, so finding a spot on a nice day can be difficult.

10/4/25 Visit: We came to visit the large crane in the park…read more The Crane is a magnificent structure "not to be missed". The crane was manufactured by the Electric Launch Company (ELCO). It was used to lift the PT boats used in WWII. In the park, there's a plaque dedicated to the people who worked at the Elco Co. along with the service people who served on the PT boats. The park has other highlights: - Stunning marsh birds. - Enclosed viewing areas of the waters. - Lovely wooden bridge. - Benches. Looks like fishing is good here, as we saw several men fishing. During our visit, we did see law enforcement patrolling the area. Unfortunately, the restrooms needed attention. Other than the restrooms, The Richard A. Rutkowski Park is a "must see". There's ample parking along the water.

Plenty of benches scattered throughout, along with basketball court, gazebo, play structures, & swing set. We arrived just as the school nearby let out so we were in the company of parents watching their littles run off pent-up energy. We got a kick out of an older kid placing his scooter next to us & asking, "No one's gonna touch this right?!" Spent a chill hour at this park near downtown Hoboken.

This review is specifically for the dog park as I've come here twice in the past two months just…read morefor that. I had to meet some family halfway to drop a few items and this park ended up being the halfway for me. It's pretty convenient off of Route 3, and only minutes away from the Garden State Parkway. Additionally, it's only 15 mins or so away from the American Dream mall. The park is huge, most of which I've yet to explore (including the views of the NYC skyline). The dog park is just past the first parking lot (I believe the main lot) you see. You can park on the street (there are two huge spots) right in front of the dog parks or you can park in the parking lot and walk right down the hill towards the dog park. There are two dog parks - one for small dogs and the other for larger dogs. Both look equivalent, except one is obviously bigger. My dog was mostly sniffing the leaves that fell in the fall and perhaps has gotten to the age where he's uninterested in anything outside of sniffing things. For younger, more active dogs, this is a fun place to just play. You can definitely give your dog some good exercise going up and down ladders and such. The people also are pretty nice and the dog park is largely clean. People do pick up their poop, which is very important. This is a pretty good place to let your dog loose for a bit.
