This passion for writing slowly trickled to a passion for making videos. So, at the beginning of this year, I made an agreement with myself that I would shoot, edit, and post between 150-200 videos no matter what. I don't care what thoughts were inevitably going to creep in to try and talk me out of it, I'm doing this. Kobe Bryant, my childhood hero, put it best when he said "I'm not negotiating with myself. The deal has already been made. I signed that contract with myself. I'm doing it." All this to say, I've been on an absolute SPRINT this year. I'm exhausted and drained, but it's been worth it. I started the year with 5,101 followers, and today (Aug 6th) I have 75.5k. I hate judging things off of follower counts, but it is the best metric to depict what success looks like doing this. This past Sunday I was damn near bed ridden sick, but I heard Kobe's voice in my head so I dragged myself out of bed to Hoboken to go do another video. I got off the Path train and started walking, when I turned my head to the right and saw one of the most beautiful views I've seen this year at Pier A Park. A huge grassy plain, with a full view of the New York City Skyline from nose to tail across the Hudson River. It felt like a green screen. It made me pause and be present for the first time in awhile. I've been running so fast at this goal that I haven't really appreciated the journey at all, but this view forced me to stop and smell the roses. I just sat here for 30 minutes thinking "damn life is so beautiful and human beings are amazing." It reminds me of that allegory in the Alchemist when the wise man tells a boy to go explore all the marvels of a magnificent palace, but instructs him to carry a spoon with two drops of oil without spilling any. The first time he comes back with all the oil but misses all the beauty of the palace. The 2nd time he comes back having seen everything there is to see, but has no oil in the spoon. The wiseman concludes by saying "The secret of happiness is to see all the marvels of the world, and never forget the drops of oil on the spoon." You're probably like wtf is wrong with this guy hijacking this review of Pier A park to trauma dump, and that's fair. I'm a little crazy for sure. Shoutout to Pier A park though. I walked onto a park built on a series of tulip shaped concrete columns rising from the river, and the structure itself was striking enough that the architecture became part of the experience rather than just the platform for it. The design is compact and the island is smaller than most first time visitors expect, but the thoughtfulness of the landscaping made the space feel fuller than its footprint suggests. I followed walking paths that wound through planted gardens, with seating areas distributed throughout. Two elevated hills at either end of the island offered different vantage points looking back at the skyline and out over the river. The Hudson River views were wide and unobstructed, and the perspective on the surrounding city from the water level was one I do not get from the street. Sunset is the most popular time to visit and draws the largest crowds. I came on a weekday morning, which gave me a more relaxed version of the park with better access to seating and a quieter atmosphere. Food trucks were present, and the proximity to Chelsea Market makes the surrounding area practical for extending the visit into a meal nearby. Admission is free and the park is accessible via ramps throughout. The small amphitheater hosts performances during the warmer months, which adds another reason to check what is scheduled before going. The High Line Park...what can I say? I mean, I've loved you for years…read more I think I was in my 20s when I first laid eyes on you, and after doing this walk so many times, I can confidently say my favorite direction is starting at Gansevoort Street and walking toward 34th Street. Unless you want to stop at the shops and restaurants at the end, then I would do the opposite. For me, this direction is perfect because I can end near Penn Station and hop back on the LIRR home. But regardless of which direction you walk, it's perfection. I made a few pit stops along the way this time. I hopped off to explore Little Island, realized the Whitney Museum was right there, and decided to explore that too. Then I went back to the High Line and continued my walk, ending at The Vessel; another one of my favorites. I love the greenery, the flowers, the art,the Hudson River views, and the fact that there is always something to see along the way. Grab an ice cream as a little treat on a sunny day, and you have the perfect NYC outing. The High Line will definitely always be one of my favorite things to do in the city.

The High Line is one of those places where you almost forget you're in NYC…read more Last night, after dinner with about 20 coworkers, we wandered up a staircase and found ourselves on this beautiful elevated walkway winding through the city. Gardens, benches, public art, apartment windows close enough that you're practically making eye contact with the people inside... and somehow, despite being in Manhattan, it all feels surprisingly peaceful. At night, it's especially beautiful. Couples cozy up on patches of lawn and stare out at the city lights. Others are taking photos, selfies, or just people-watching. I found myself doing a little of everything while wandering farther and farther south. Before you know it, you've walked 20 blocks and suddenly realize... well... I guess I have to turn around now. Along the way, you might notice remnants of old railroad tracks running through the gardens and think, "What the heck are those doing up here?" That's when the curiosity really starts. The High Line wasn't originally built as a park. It was an elevated freight railroad completed in the 1930s as part of the West Side Improvement Project. Before that, freight trains ran at street level along Tenth Avenue, so dangerously that the road became known as "Death Avenue." Yeah, who knew?? Cowboys on horseback (apparently nicknamed the West Side Cowboys) would ride ahead of trains waving flags to warn pedestrians. The tracks were elevated, which spared pedestrians, while also transforming the neighborhood. Decades later, after the railroad was abandoned, New Yorkers saved it from demolition and turned it into one of the city's most unique public parks. It's free, beautifully landscaped, and one of those attractions that's just as much about wandering as it is about reaching a destination. Don't rush it. Stop, look around, enjoy the history beneath your feet... and for a little while, forget you're in New York.

Its a solid option for a chill walk or picnic on a beautiful day. The playground attracts families from all around. Although the spaces is relatively small when compared to alternatives found in places like Liberty State Park, it is packed with multiple play areas and jungle gyms for different age groups. It even has a merry-go-round and old school London-style phone booth - totally random but welcome additions. During the summers the splash pad is a hit with the little ones. Finally, the artificial beach right near the edge of the river is a perfect spot to chill at and enjoy a glamours view of the city skyline. Best of all, beach chairs are already provided! The tradeoff: there are no public bathrooms. Whether you are on a date, with family, or just walking the dog, Park at Newport Green is a must-see spot in Hudson County NJ.
