Mixing the old with the new

This is by far my favorite way to walk in manhattan! Such a unique mix of history, art, and urban design. This place really is a gem of a park and a must see if visiting NY. Best part is being able to walk in interrupted from Pen Station to the Hudson yards, all the way down to Chelsea.

What a unique thing to see and do in the middle of a busy city. Loved walking through and seeing all the different kinds of architecture. This is a very busy and touristy thing to do and there aren't a lot of resting spots to stop and look around. Some of the highline is pretty narrow, so passing slow pokes is an issue. All in all though, take in this creation and the beautiful walk above the streets of New York. It's pretty amazing.

My husband and I decided to take a walk down the highline last Saturday during our trip to New York City. We had originally been before, but never actually visited this attraction. We hopped down at the Hudson yards, which was surrounded by shopping and the vessel, which was really cool to see. Because of the weather, the high line was bustling and busy. Had a good summer, the greenery would've been flowing, so it's definitely a nice way for New Yorkers to get a little outdoor effect. The murals and the buildings surrounding the high line were amazing and the architecture was something that was the highlight of my walk. It was so cool to see local artist structures on the highline and how they repurposed it as well.

    Pigeon on the bridge

Yelp Review 2025 #263: I visited High Line upon seeing a giant pigeon on top of a bridge. You go up the stairs in order to see it up close. This pigeon has two names: "Paloma" and "Dinosaur" by artist, Ivan Argote. Installed in 2024 and will be up until Spring 2026. They've already revealed what the replacement will be. It's free to visit since it's a public park. You can see buildings and watch cars passing under the bridge. If you keep walking, you'll see signs to The Vessel - it's only a short walk away from here. There are restaurants, cafes and shops in the area. Sometimes, there are events. It's free to see the art installation.

    Dinosaur's feet that look realistic

The High Line has art works as one promenades on it. Currently the celebrated pigeon, Dinosaur, is on the High Line. Located on 30th Street, it is a stone's throw from Hudson Yards. Yesterday, I took a walk to see it. The lifelike pigeon was majestic and towered over everyone. Iván Argote, the artist, created this ordinary bird which was mounted in October 2024. On Saturday, a farewell party was held to honor this artwork but now many people want it to be permanent. So do I.

Simply stunning. Beautiful walkable part of New York read this modern and very peaceful. The vibe is very good and the ambience is very positive. Walkable distance from the Chelsea Market. Five stars!

A few years ago we walked a portion of the High Line and we were not overly impressed by what we saw. This time, with our local friends from the Bronx we had a chance to walk a lot more of this attraction and to enjoy the green spaces, benches, flowers, artwork and serenity of it. The High Line is built on a 1.45-mile-long elevated rail structure running from Gansevoort St. to 34th St. on Manhattan's West Side. The High Line's hours vary by season: December 1 - March 31: 7am to 8pm April 1 - November 30: 7am to 10pm There are several sections of the High Line that have food choices as well as elevators. Also, check out their website for calendar of events...there's a lot going on up there on the green spaces.... Worth the visit.

    Art along the line.

This is a NYC attraction that is very much worth doing and is also completely free. Plus, you are guaranteed to easily burn a few calories. Quite simply, the High Line used to be a normal train on the ground (a "Low Line," if you will) that then became an elevated train, primarily because the train on the ground kept killing people, which the people whom it had not yet killed found objectionable for some reason. Then, it became an elevated and safer train until it ceased operations. After it stopped operating, some truly forward thinking and terrific people turned it into an urban walkway with outstanding views, art pieces, and lush landscaping. It is really something. You can start on either the south end, near Chelsea Market, or the north end near the Hudson Yards train depot. It makes no difference where you start. There are large art pieces every so often along the trail. I liked some of the art but not all of it but that is ok. That is how art goes. The entire hike is a little over a mile and it is perfectly flat and very easy. There are benches everywhere if you need a break or just want to sit and enjoy the views. Many of the views are very nice. Highly recommended.

An update 10 years in the making! I'm happy to report that the High Line is indeed aging gracefully, with the plants and trees filled in and a LOT more public art. The weather was very different on this last visit--we were wading through the full heat and humidity of a NY summer. Thank goodness for the grown-in trees and tunnels that provided some shade. This time I was able to walk its entirety, as we were staying close to the starting point. It was midweek so it wasn't super-crowded, and consequently a lot of the small food and drink vendors dotted along the way weren't open. Toward the end a section was closed so we had to get off and get back on a couple blocks away, but not a big deal. BTW, the bathroom at the end of the line was one of the cleanest public restrooms I've ever been in. Once it ended, it was the perfect segue into Little Island park and the new Whitney. I love this park so much--another must-visit whenever I'm in town.

Finally got the chance to stroll the high line on my recent trip to NYC! This is such a cool concept and a great way to explore the city. I love the greenery along the path -- there are even some shady spots which make the walk that much more doable on a extra sunny day. I was also surprised to see some vendors along the way selling coffee, sweet treats, and more! There are benches to sit and take in sights as well as some look out points that are great for photo-ops. I was seriously impressed with how clean it was! We walked to the Chelsea Market and it was the perfect way to take in the city sights from up above.

Love the architecture; a nautical feel

Wonderful city walk with views, photo ops, and leisurely fun! If I worked around the high line, it would be my #1 spot for a lunch break! Along the walk they have built it nooks with benches and shaded areas for you to enjoy the breeze or people watch. I loved the many views of the Empire State Building. The art and greenery/gardens all along were so enjoyable. 10/10 recommend the High Line if you're visiting the city for a day without a plan !

The High Line is such a beautiful repurposing of an old elevated train track. I love that they decided to turn it in to a long urban park instead of tearing it down. It really shows that New York does a great job of honoring their past while also modernizing and looking to the future. The mile long walk goes by quickly as there seems to always be something new to look at and you're able too see something down the road to motivate you to move on. Before you know it, you've walked the entire route. If I lived here, I would absolutely love to use it as a run route (as we saw many people doing). My only complaint is that it can get crowded with large groups of people. I'm glad that people are checking the space out, but I wish they were courteous enough to understand that if they're a large group and maybe not walking as fast as everyone else, that they stay to the side instead of blocking the entire length of the path. I know that's an issue that's not just isolated to High Line, but it's something to keep in mind. Especially if you are going for a run. You might need to either stop temporarily or constantly alert people that you are coming up fast. As someone who does not live in New York, I felt like High Line isn't talked about. We had never heard of it until we were in the area. To me, it kinda feels like a hidden gem for non locals. I think that's a shame because I really think it's a great little escape from the rest of the city.

Many amazing experiences walking this converted rail bed thru Chelsea. It's a magical reprieve from the chaos of NYC when it's not overrun with tourists. lol Evenings are my preferred time, the lights and decreased crowds make it really enjoyable. Day time on a Sunday afternoon is definitely not a stroll. It's hectic and congested with tourists and locals trying to get out and enjoy what feels like a walk in the park but becomes a very crowded space I love how the path weaves through all of the interesting buildings in the neighborhood and showcases the creative repurposing of established infrastructure. At night it is well lit and offers you a totally different experience than during the day. This is one of my favorite things in New York City. You can jump off from this highline trail multiple times to experience the harbor Little Island, the Chelsea market the vessel. It does have open and closed hours.

MSP is not large - the center of it is a large green space with paths on the perimeter that contain walking paths and benches. In addition to the Shake Shack, there's also a small seating area nearby where you can sit and eat, or just hang out. The park is ideal of people watching, eating your lunch, or just walking around a space that contrasts the hustle and bustle of the surrounding areas. We were on our 4th game of 5 on 5 on this slanted, slippery court with double rims as the Midtown skyline looked over us. We had gone 3-0 and already on wobbly legs but wanted one more to really push ourselves to exhaustion and be WHOOPED. A group of 5 17 year olds showed up and I was lowkey like damn I don't wanna play these little kids for our last game but whatever, they got next. We were going back and forth, and to be fair they were actually pretty good but just too frail to give us any problems. At 5'10 174 lbs, I'm a BIG guard. I'm left handed, but shot a right handed floater fading to my right as I'm trying to get better. If you can hit a weak hand floater on the run you will be tough to stop. I bricked it and this little 17 year old kid goes "that's a TERRIBLE shot" looking at me dead in the eyes. Like bro y'all are losing and you suck why you talking? He woke me up and I started actually trying really hard and lowkey busting their ass... but tbh normally I'm not even that good. It was just one of those days where everything was falling. I hit a 3 and yelled out "THAT'S A LAYUP." I drove hard left, euro stepped and hit a tough finish through 2 and yelled "I"M TOO BIG," while flexing. I switched onto little homie and he took a terrible stepback shot after I turned him 3 times and bricked it. I just whispered to him "I don't even gotta say nothing after that one it speaks for itself" which really pissed him off. Then I hit the game winning 3 and did the Dame wave to him as he walked off the court PISSED as hell. I sat down and then he got the courage to say "STOP TALKING SO MUCH" while he put his hand together to mimic me YAPPING. I almost stood up and said "HOW BOUT U GET WIN?" But then I realized I'm a grown ass man and there is absolutely no reason to be jawing at this little kid on a beautiful Friday in New York City. I just kind of laughed at myself and asked what is wrong with me lol. All in all, these runs were kind of weak and this court is in horrendous condition. The court on the westside highway is still my favorite in the city. IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov_reviews
