When we came here last night, the doggy waste bags were fully stocked! Last Saturday must have been…read morea busy day for dog poop! We brought a bottle of water for Ham, but it would be nice if they had water fountains here like they do at the other doggy parks. One thing I did notice this time though: the fence. Along one side of the fence, the bottom of the bars stick out and face in towards the dog run area. Just eye level for my little guy. It makes me nervous when the dogs are playing and run along it. I don't think they'd intentionally run right into it, but accidents happen. All fun and games, till someone loses an eye!

Access is for Shipyard residents only...there is not a key fob system to get in and nobody asks what your doing there. This run is definately a plus for the residents but may not be worth the trip since parking is a pain. Add water and a separate dog run for small dogs and this is a solid 4 star run. Add some shade and this could be a 5 star run. Dog runs/parks I have been to so far: http://www.yelp.com/list/nyc-area-dog-parks-runs-queens-4

This is my pups favorite dog park. It's the largest that I know of in the area and allows plenty of…read morespace for my dog to run as fast as she can. The dogs are usually friendly, and it's nice that the water is turned on promptly, in time for the warmer days. There's a small and large dog partition, although we enjoy the large side better. I especially love the obstacles laid out for the dogs to enjoy: It shows effort was put into constructing this dog park. Parking is usually no problem and there are a few benches to sit down inside the park.

Not my favorite dog park, but it's the closest one to where I live in Jersey City Heights. In terms…read moreof amenities, there's a nice water fountain in the park for the dogs, and a few benches for humans to sit on. The ground is mostly loose rocks and dirt - no grass unfortunately - so there's potential for dirty dogs when it's a bit wet around the water fountain. This dog park is in the medium size, with a decent amount of space for the dogs to run around. However, it's important to note that the dog park itself is split in two for large dogs and small dogs, however the small-dog dog park is almost never used, so the large-dog dog park has become a mixed dog park. This is fine for me since I have a medium-sized dog, but it's something I'd think people should be aware of, seeing large dogs running around and playing with small dogs. This is just something to consider if you have a smaller dog or even a senior/geriatric dog. It's not the best dog park in my opinion, but it's the best we've got in the area.
