Regarding the people only: it seems most people who come here are regulars, and know each other decently well. For me, the most important part of a dog park is the people. The best are responsible for their dogs: they know their personalities, what constitutes are good and bad play, and how to properly address bad behavior. And thus far, everyone has been great. I highly recommend this park for an intro dog park. Because of the size, it's not so overwhelming for new dogs, and it keeps the dogs from getting too crazy. Heck, I still have a decent stretch to walk and I still bring my dogs here.

It is 20 feet or more above the esplanade situated at the corner where the walk turns away from the Hudson towards Brookfield mall. .You can access the dog run from setback steps off the river walk or once you turn away from the river, there is a ramp. At the entrance to the dog run there are two gates.The second gate is a bit rusty and difficult to slide. Sirius run is for any size dog . Big and little dogs are all together. Since my dog Mickie is small, I was a bit concerned. All was fine and Mickie relaxed. The owners kept an eye on their dogs. The Park has a nice view of the Hudson and its arrangement next to a kids playground is nice.

This dog run is named after PAPD K-9 Sirius #17. He was a bomb sniffing yellow lab who served in the World Trade Center. He died during the 9/11 attacks when Tower Two collapsed. His body was recovered and he was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross. There used to be a plaque that explained all this, but I'm not sure where it went. It's not the largest dog run I've been to, but it's a decent size for most dogs. There's no partition so small and large dogs play together. It's paved, which I prefer to using gravel for the ground. There are two hills and one crater that fills up with water and becomes a pool. It automatically drains itself as well. There's a two-level water fountain off to the side. One level for dogs and one for people. I have often seen someone spray the pavement down with a hose at night, so I know this dog run is definitely cared for. There are nice benches all along one side. Overall it's a very nice-looking dog park. The park itself is elevated a bit so you can look out on to the plaza and the North Cove Marina. There's nothing like spending an hour or so enjoying the afternoon with your dog overlooking the water and people watching. I think what really makes this an enjoyable experience though, is the people. The other dog owners are courteous and friendly. There's a sense of community among the regulars. If you live downtown, this is the place to bring your dog!

I have been digging this park since it opened; there's so much to do here:…read more - Play ground with big kids and small kids sections - Dope sprinkler park - 2 tennis courts - 4 basketball courts - Baseball field - Bike and jogging path - Football/soccer turf field (with bleachers too!) - Dog run (with water fountain) - Fitness Circuit (9 stations) On most weekends there is usually an ice cream truck or two parked near the playground, but I have yet to see any other vendors. Throughout the park there are a couple different areas for bike parking and car parking is currently pretty easy on Garfield Ave, I hope that doesn't change! There are other parts of the park that are not open yet which I think will be the skate park and a lawn. There are benches throughout the park and picnic tables at the south end by the dog run. Jersey city has Liberty State Park and Lincoln park, which are good for jogging, biking, or chilling out on a blanket. Berry Lane Park is more activity orientated, kind of like a modernized Pershing Field. Berry park is a great addition to the neighborhood and Jersey City overall.

Both sides have water available for the dogs and a number of different obstacles for them to run around on off-leash and areas to drink, but also some random puddles. Owners have to keep an eye on their dogs, so even if they are social sometimes they can fight. Almost all the dogs I've met here have been pretty nice though. Lot of bugs at the edges, though, especially in the muddy areas, and I killed a tick I saw, too, so you have to be careful. Parking can get quite busy at peak times.

It was pretty crowded on a Sunday afternoon but still space for the doggos to run around. It has a small hill where dogs can go up and down on. Only downfall is that owners don't pay attention to their pups, so when they go poop, they don't realize and it just sits there. Luckily, we help each other out so it does get picked up eventually since no one wants their dog to step on it or eat it. Definitely will be back with my pup since she had a great time there!
