The neighbors and their well behaved pups make this park great. Clean, well maintained facilities and friendly community.

Nice park, small dog and big dog sections. Agility course and toys to play but bring your own in…read morecase they aren't any since it seemed like most of the toys were just left behind. Not sure if it's because it's winter time but no water so bring a bowl and some water for your furbaby. They have waste station and garbage, over all the park was cleaner than average. It's close to the water so it can get a little chilly but worth the visit to exercise the furbabies. Will be visiting soon..

Ok its been a year and not much has changed with this park. I had even contacted the public works…read morerep for this particular field and other then taking down the rusty old dog bag dispenser, nothing has happened. Let me begin by stating that due to lazy residents who frequent this place, there are piles of dog feces that are never picked up. By lazy residents I mean those of you who do not care to pick up after your dog, yourselves or those annoying cigarette butts that magically dont make it to the trash can area. Why anyone allows smoking with in the gates, is beyond me.... . When I contacted the city it was to ask 1) why the 3 emails I had sent were never answered and 2) to discuss issues that needed looking after. The main issue was the water fountain that has become more of an art form (bad art) vs. somthing of use. Granted Hurrican sandy happened but this was an issue LOOOOOONG before that happened. Infact, I had finally gotten the rep for the parks to come speak with me and did not get the feeling he actually cared. His excuse was to blame the residents (the lazy ones) and to tell me that he only had 25 workers to help with the many parks under his authority. Well, you know what they say about excuses, right? So nothing was done to this park other then the rusty dog bag dispenser and the mowing of the grass which was a plus, but not enough. I had left for the summer and came back in late Sept. to find that nothing had changed. However, I had now been going to the Lincoln dog park and it is 10x's nicer. They even were smart to use sand, vs grass to keep down the flea and tick issues. It also makes cleaning dog poo up easier. Its not great on my gas tank but I'll do anything for my pets. Along with the fountain that is still there and still not working, there are now issues with aggressive dogs. My dog was attacked on 4 different occasions at the Bayonne park and once at Lincoln. There is no promise that a dog park visit will be nice, however, thanks to irresponsible dog owners, this has become an issue at the Bayonne park more and more lately. Let me help those of you understand what aggressive means. It means your dog goes after other dogs for no reason, goes after a dog for a toy (this is toy aggression) or cannot share toys with out going crazy, same with water. There should be no guarding when it comes to toys or water if its in an aggressive manor. NOTE: humping is NORMAL in a dog park!! It is a way they show dominance. If your dog is humping another and that other dog turns quickly and growls/snaps but lets up immediately, THIS IS NOT AGGRESSION. It is the way they solve this dominance behavior on their own and teachers your dog not to do it again. If they continue to go after your dog and do not let up after a few secconds, then this is aggression issues. Pitt bulls are looked down upon but that is because 95% of their owners do not train their dogs correctly!!!! However they are a great breed if you TRAIN THEM!!!. Labs are #3 on the list of dogs that bite the most, so stop focusing on just the breed rather the owners ability to train their dogs. IE. Your dog goes after mine aggessively for a toy or no reason at all more then once, YOU need to TAKE THEM OUT OF THE PARK! Point being people, if your dog is not pleasant (no matter how good they are at home with YOU) , you need to be responsible and take them out of the park. Otherwise expect a hefty vet bill one day or even a lawsuit can happen. Learn to be responsible so those of us with well behaved dogs can enjoy the park. If this info upsets you then you are more than likely one of those people who believe that your dog is an angel and more then likely not one at the park. As for the city, please either put up a note explaining the fountain issue or actually fix the things! In all dog parks! A pipe and spicket are all that are needed. Humans can bring their own water, but our dogs need it no matter what. Especially on these hot days. I am tired of trying to email the city over this and I dont care to hear excuses anymore. If your boys cannot get to it Im sure a lot our dog owning community would love to help out granted you give us the correct instruments to do so. Thats pretty much it, to sum it up, Oh and small dog people, we big dog owners welcome you if you can hang with out issue, however, if you have a big dog, bring it to the big dog park. Not the small one. That is too small a space to have that many big dogs in one area. It creates and tense and aggressive atomosphere.

Came here with the family after receiving the township news that fireworks for Independence Day…read morewould be held here. It's a small park and has some parking but it's small. The waterfront brings cool breeze on hot summer days which is a plus. There's also restrooms which is a plus. The only problem is the restroom has no air condition so imagine the funky oder! Phew...! There is also no soap so I'm glad I had my hand sanitizer right after washing my hands with only water. There's also a stage performance of live band which was awesome for entertaining everyone while we wait for fireworks in the dusk. Because many others were here with their pets and also seeing the fireworks, there's so much traffic and road closures with cops detouring all traffic. The firework show above the waterfront was up front and very beautiful. I will definitely come back again next year but definitely earlier to get better parking. After certain time, you can't drive your vehicle into the park. The cops make people find parking elsewhere and the walk into the park gets pretty lengthy.

Both had gazebos for my humans to sit in and a few benches scattered about. The best part of the park was the giant dog ramp that I could run up and down. Pros: Lots of space - Dog ramp - Grass - Poop bags available - Fountains for me and my humans Cons: - In the middle of no where - Little Shade - Porta Potty on site (wouldve liked a real bathroom) I might go back for a second chance if Im in the area! ~L

DiMattina Dog Park - DiMattina dog park. This is the original run, now the "large-dog" side but used by all. Hicks St & entrance are to the left.

DiMattina Dog Park is a dog park actually as one of the pictures show. It is south of the…read morechildren's playground, and the entrance is on Hick's Street. Although the park was renovated and reopened last year the community members involved agree that it could have been better. Pros- Small dog run now available, good amount of benches for seating, lovely trees to provide shade, some nice landscaping attempted, two locations for hoses with working water, majority of owners are responsible and there are many regulars, lighted at night although treed areas still dark of course, parents may find it convenient to bring dog to play while watching baseball or softball game going on in adjacent field (although should pay more attention to their dog if staying in the run). Cons - Dog walkers and irresponsible people let/put their dogs into the tree and landscaping enclosures and some areas have been destroyed, the stone chosen is very dusty and dissolved into dust in many spots so dogs get very dusty/dirty which is worsened in warm months by the hose areas which some people leave running after use creating giant mud puddles, trees near entrance drop berries in late Spring/early Summer and many dogs spend the whole time eating the berries and get stained with berry juice when playing, small dogs beware the benches as they are made with a wide gap between the first two slats and legs often get stuck with potential to injure, digging has created multiple areas with holes that have been filled in or not, creating tripping hazards, under benches is not concrete so dogs have taken to digging holes that never get filled in and thus invite more dogs to dig, doggy pool with drain hole which may be a pro if you like to let your dog cool off in water but it tends to stay very dirty and dogs will always drink from it-it's very heavy material even empty so difficult to clean out regularly and many dogs regularly jump in during games of chase and jump out soaking wet so soon all dogs at play are soaking wet and muddy even if they didn't go near the pool. We'll keep going here because it really is fairly nice for the options in the area and the regulars are nice people. I just wanted to be detailed for the sake of the review. FYI- although there is now a "small dog side" most people still use the original (large dog) side for all sizes. It's more of an unspoken rule that if someone has a dog that should not be around other dogs, they go into the empty small-dog side and toss a ball or otherwise exercise their dog. Unfortunately, some people do not bother to do this and our own dog has been attacked by a ball aggressive dog.
