Neat playground equipment!
Bruno N.

I wanted to give this park and playground five stars upon first setting foot on its mulch-covered grounds soon after moving here from Brooklyn, but over the past few weeks, I've been disappointed by certain occurrences. First, a playground for children without a proper restroom for the to use seems like a cruel joke. On our first visit, parents directed us to the little cabin beside the tennis courts; unfortunately, it was locked and the YMCA staffer leading a class there said he couldn't unlock it for us. On we trudged across the soccer fields to the portables on the other side -- quite a haul for little toddler's legs -- where on a subsequent visit was filthy with human excrement and discarded briefs. Hardly family-friendly! Most recently, on a weekday, there was a strong stench of weed smoke just past the otherwise idyllic footbridge en route to Maplewood Station. Is this why they (or Realtors and the New York Times, at least) call the town "Brooklyn West" -- because of its growing urban ills? I sure hope not!

A nice park to take a stroll in. Its right outside Maplewood village so before or after coming here you can grab a bite. There are various places to play sports in the park including a basket ball court, baseball field, tennis, playground and open field for soccer or other sports. There is also a community pool and country club and library nearby. The scenery is nice with paths, nice trees and a little brook/canal. There are the usual water birds - ducks and geese which is expected at these parks. Plenty of benches for sitting and an ice cream truck that comes around frequently. Its a nice park that has the benefit of being right near the village and the train station. Lots of other things surrounding the park to make it livelier.

Duck just ignoring me.

Great little venue for events that you can reserve out - we had a school semi-formal here - parking…read morewas a bit tough given the snow and ice cut down on spaces. It's a good venue for a smaller wedding, but for the middle school kids, they didn't appreciate it as much (they complained it was their parents' style, not cool!). So much for appreciating the work that the PTO does. They do have some outdoor seating (couldn't use with the snow), a back area with seats/tables, a check-in area and coats were too many - they ended up on racks in the hallway. Probably better to do a spring/summer/fall event here when there are less heavy jackets. Food was good, though simple, per the kids - pasta was good, the sliders a bit off, and the cheese & charcuterie was not bad. DJ in the party was definitely loud enough (good acoustics for pop music, at least). Supposed to be the second oldest tennis club in NJ, and after a change in leadership in 2018, has revitalized itself into a family and event space along with tennis.

The party spanned throughout several rooms, each offering a bar and either hors d'oeuvres or the buffet dinner. The food quality was mixed, as I had bites of heavily under-cooked pasta, but the make-your-own taco bar was the fresh and delicious highlight. My friends were able to hire a live band, and the four members had plenty of room, as did the dancing guests. We did not stay long, so I cannot comment on many of the other items, but, overall, we thought it was a fantastic venue.

A year ago, I walked into Emily's studio--M Pilates and Yoga--with unbearable sciatic, low back, and burning compensatory pain across my glutes. No joke, at times, I felt like giving up. Today--a year later--I walked into the studio with some improper form that needed tweaking. Emily and her team address use a holistic approach, incorporating yoga, resistance training, classical and reformer Pilates to not only relieve your symptoms but to identity and repair the root cause(s) of your pain. Emily seems to be on a mission to help you as if your body were her own. The empathy she has for her individual clients and their individual needs is unmatched. The work I put in at M Pilates and Yoga with Emily changed my life. I stopped physical therapy because I had so much success at her studio. This outrageous outpouring of cliches is deservedly and genuinely outrageous due to the transformation that my body has undergone. If you have sciatica, low back and/or piriformis syndrome as a result of chronic disk disease and after countless surgeries and procedures you may feel where I'm coming from. Try three sessions at M Pilates and Yoga and prove me wrong. Otherwise, thank you, Emily!

She was very nice and introduced me to other clients as they arrived. It felt very warm and welcoming. She shared a lot with me before scheduling and that was impress. Most places just see clients and dollar signs. The Studio is diverse with various rooms where they do different things. The class I took was small and the instructor (Lauren) was knowledgeable and paid close attention to ensure everyone was doing the movements safely and getting the benefit expected out of each movement. I have severe lower back issues and I walked out of there feeling great! I look forward to my next session and think I've found an acceptable method to help me help myself naturally and keeps me off of the operating table for now. Thanks again MOXIE! Double thumbs up!!
