The seating and ordering process is confusing unless you've been here before which is why this gets 4/5 stars; it's all "scan the barcode and pay ahead." Food is delivered right to you along with any beverage selections. The morning staff are on shift EARLY (4:30 am) and could have easily let their attitudes slip, but they were wonderful and attentive on June 1st, 2023. For the airport, this area was not too loud or too quiet. The lighting was great for reading if you were to be eating solo! My partner and I enjoyed the breakfast food very much - clean plate club - and it held us over for an entire 8 hour, long travel day. I went to this restaurant because it was right next to the gate for my flight and because I had eaten there previously and the food was pretty good. However, the experience I had was horrible, To order, you have to use the QR code on the table. Fine. I do that a lot at various restaurants. The total, including tax and tip, was sent to my credit card company instantaneously. However, what I ordered was no longer available. The server came over to inform me of that and so I ordered something else. But instead of cancelling my previous order, he added the new item which upped the overall total (including the higher tax and tip based on two main dishes) and then at the bottom of the bill cancelled the main course. So even though he cancelled the unavailable item, he was keeping a tip based on not only the unavailable item but also the newly ordered replacement dish. When I complained, I was told there was no way to correct this. So then I asked for the manager. The manager was clearly not happy to be asked to correct this and also said she had no way to correct it. She could only cancel the tip in its entirety. I asked her to do so and said I would tip the server by cash. Which I did. I left $8 cash which was a 25% tip because I wanted to make clear I wasn't trying to get out of appropriately tipping a server. But, the amounts refunded still showed an $11.25 tip on what was now a less expensive main course of $24.99 plus $4.49 iced tea or a nearly 40% tip in addition to the $8 I left in cash. The business should have cancelled my order in its entirety and started over. It was not my fault they were out of what I ordered and no one told me until after the order had been processed. A full refund and then starting over would have been the easiest and right thing to do. I've disputed the excessive charged on my credit card but I would never, ever eat at this restaurant again - even if it was the only one open in the entire airport. read more

I came here after waiting for my connecting flight. I ordered the baby kale and grain salad to-go and was pleasantly surprised with the salad. It took about 10-15 minutes for my order and when I received it, it was placed in a pretty big bag, which I thought was unnecessary and should only given if someone asks for one. But the salad itself had a good amount of variety, including strawberries and walnuts, and the dressing was mixed in. The ranch was very subtle and light by default. When you travel it's so easy to just settle for fast food or something quick and easy. Mill City was a refreshing change of pace. Arrived early to the airport and had time for breakfast. I was pleasantly surprised. I've ordered the veggie omelet, and added bacon (I know, the irony...) and the veggies were perfectly cooked, had a bite to them, but were also soft, the amount of goat cheese was perfect and the bacon, ah, the bacon... it was perfectly crispy!!! I like my toast on the darker side, so that was also perfect. The staff is amazing, super warm, kept checking on me even in a place where you order everything from an iPad. My friend and I were in this area of the airport and needed some dinner during a long layover. We ended up at Mill City Tavern because we wanted a place to sit down and relax a bit. Each seat has an ipad to order from, but we also had a couple servers come by with water and to check on us. I'm a pretty tech-savvy millennial but I found the ipad ordering clunky and not very user-friendly. Plus there are tons of ads on the screen which is distracting and confusing. They also offer lots of "add-ons" including chapstick, which I thought was weird. Definitely be careful not to order anything you don't want! The menu is very limited and prices are super high - of course this is an airport, but I was a little surprised at the prices even then. I was hoping for some healthier options but none of the salads interested me, so I ended up getting a burger. My friend got the veggie burger that was mostly just mashed roasted beets, kind of strange and not what we were expecting. My burger was cooked to the right temp but was dry and not very flavorful. The fries were good, but nothing special. The tomato on the burger was really terrible - super mealy and zero flavor. Unfortunately, I paid $22 for a pretty bad burger. I should've been more wary due to the low Yelp ratings, but I generally have had pretty good experiences with airport food even despite dismally low scores at most airport restaurants. Not so at Mill City Tavern, unfortunately. During my layover in MSP, I decided to stop and get some lunch. After a quick glance at yelp, I settled on Mill City Tavern. I actually sat in the gate area by Mill City Tavern as they have tablets at the tables where you can order directly, and they will bring the food to you. The whole process was efficient and easy. In terms of the food, I was not disappointed! I ordered the wild mushroom poutine, and it was yummy! Was it the best poutine I've ever had? No, but it was definitely tasty! I will admit that they were a bit heavy handed with the salt. Aside from that, there was plenty of melty cheese curds, and the sauce had a nice complexity of flavor. What really made the experience for me was the awesome service! The servers were warm and friendly. For example, when bringing my food, they automatically brought a glass of ice water too. Granted they also gave a plastic straw, so perhaps we'll need to have a discussion about saving sea turtles, but it is the Midwest after all, so this probably hasn't made it to them yet. Also, after I asked for a box to keep the leftovers, they brought an eco-friendly box with utensils and extraneous napkins. Win! They also gave me a colorful plastic bag to put everything in (again, need to have a discussion about plastic waste). All-in-all, I had a wonderful experience. I also ordered a cheese plate. There are four selections of cheese to choose from, $4 each. I chose the smoked goat cheese which was very good and the triple cream milk cheese. Very eyecatching first impression upon entering the terminal after arrival, had a long layover while connecting to SMF. Tables and tables of iPads...I snagged a single table and tried the iPad/wifi for checking flight status, and looked at the food menus while charging my iPhone and laptop. The burger that caught my eye was the "Jucy Lucy" Minneapolis tradition. It's essentially a cheeseburger that has the cheese inside the meat patty in addition to on top. A piece of cheese is surrounded by raw meat and cooked until it melts, resulting in a molten core of cheese within the patty. Ordering was simple, I had the cheeseburger and a lemonade, paid with card with the reader/swipe on the side, and the order/waiter came promptly. The server warned me to let the burger cool for a minute or cut it open with my knife first since the scalding hot cheese tends to gush out at the first bite, ha. The fries tided me over until the burger was ready to go. As I wandered through the terminal to my connecting gate, I noticed other airport restaurants with the iPad systems, but different menu offerings, of course. I have stopped at this restaurant twice in my latest travels and primarily because the food is good and it's so quick and easy to order here! This restaurant is located in the G Terminal at MSP. This terminal is fantastic for having electronic tablets everywhere for you. Both of my visits were at breakfast. You can seat yourself at a booth, table, or the bar. There is a lot of seating, so it was no problem to find a place. There are tablets at each seat. On the tablet you can check your flight connection (gate, how much time you have) which is a fantastic feature. The menu is located on the tablet, so you can scroll through all of the items, customize them (i.e. add flavoring to your coffee), add them to your cart and then submit your order. It's so easy! Once you swipe your credit card, your order is submitted and the tablet will keep you updated - being prepared, being delivered, etc. The first time I was here, the table had been swapped, so the card reader I needed was actually the one on the other side of the table, but I just pressed the button for assistance, and a server was there immediately. I had french toast on my last visit and though the portion size was just right. The coffee is good too. The servers here are very friendly - they always greet you with water soon after you are seated and are very willing to explain the ordering process if it unfamiliar to you. I love the tables because there are USB ports and electrical plugs at each table which makes it great for the business traveler or anyone who needs to charge a phone. read more

You'll find them here. The plates are pretty tasty, and the service is generally good, but the system they're employing is ridiculous. Loved the walleye sandwich. The burger was good. Airport pricing, what can you do. But the iPad? Bad, bad call. We ended up straightening up our order and bill with a real live person, about four times, because the iPad was totally wonky. Until the technology improves, here's why the setup sucks: don't like onions? No tomato on that burger? Worse, want a vegan-friendly meal? Guess what: the iPad won't notate this. Real human servers, utilizing the ancient art of listening, are the right people for the job. It's weird, but the system, here (ordering from a robot) is somewhat offensive, especially for those who've worked in the service industry. Just don't do it. A lot of pluses here - a tasty sandwich, fast service, and a really friendly server that genuinely seemed to care that I was having a good experience. I got the turkey club sandwich and the turkey had a tasty roasted flavor, the bacon was crisp and meaty, and the cheese appeared to be real. There were two minor bummers: they forgot the tomato (which I love) and included a hefty chunk of turkey skin in my sandwich (that was easy to pick off, at least). The server asked if I needed anything and I had no doubt she'd have brought me out a tomato slice for the second half of my sandwich if I'd have requested it. She was also kind enough to offer me a glass of water - something I didn't see on the menu (probably since they're trying to sell $7 bottles of fancy water). It is a little pricey, but compared to other sit-down restaurants I stopped by it's actually not too bad (my sandwich and fries was $13.50). I had no choice but to fly last week and had a 4 hour layover in Minneapolis. Fortunately, although almost everything was closed due to COVID-19, the Mill City Tavern was open. I was pretty much the only one dining and waitress Hope treated me like royalty. It had been a tough couple of weeks and she seriously lifted my spirits. I will never forget her kindness. I enjoyed the rib eye steak, medium rare; it was cooked to perfection and was delicious. I also had a large salad of fresh mixed greens, dried cranberries, candied walnuts and a sweet oil and vinegar dressing ... excellent. And my vegetable was steamed asparagus with hollandaise sauce ... also excellent. Mill City Tavern was far more than I could have expected in an airport restaurant.
