This is one of the better food options at the airport. And it's probably the best bar. The bartender was on the ball, taking care of a bar full of patrons as well as doing food orders.

    Burrito especial

On a long travel day wherein I had already been awake 6 hours, my body was ready for lunch, and the thought of anything sweet or "breakfasty" disgusted me. But at 8:30 AM in Minnesota, my options were beyond limited. So, when I stumbled upon Zona Cocina, I was thrilled to see that while, they too only served breakfast at this hour, there were several savory and filling options. I ordered the Burrito Especial, which, despite the eggs and bacon inside, could easily pass for lunch food. It was warm, it was huge, it was flavorful, and both the tortilla outside and the potatoes inside were somehow crisp despite the presence of other wet fillings. It was served with a "fire-roasted red salsa," which, much to my delight, was very spicy and had a nice depth of umami. If they sold jars of this, I would have brought one home with me. It also came with a side of fruit, which I actually wasn't expecting (it says so on the menu, I just missed that part I suppose), but was excited to eat. Pretty good fruit cup -- not overly loaded down with cheap fillers like cantaloupe. -1 star from the review only because there was mold on several pieces of fruit, although I unfortunately didn't notice this until the end. Restaurant was clean and servers were attentive but not overbearing.

This restaurant in Terminal 1 concourse F was pretty delicious. I opted for mahi mahi and shrimp taco combo with the esquitas(corn). Carrie was friendly and attentive. It was fairly busy and the drinks were flowing for the drinkers.

I had the chicken fajitas. Huge plates with average amount of food on them. Included small portion of chicken with onions and bell peppers plus 3 tortillas and rice and beans. Plus all the Tex Mex fixing like tomatoes, sour cream and guacamole. $16.

Kept walking by this spot bc the chips and queso was calling out to me. The queso was a bit salty in comparison to other dips I've had. The taco was MESSY. I was wondering why I got utensils with my meal. It would have tasted better in a hard shell I think. Server was okay. Took a while to take my order but she came back to check on me after I got my meal.

Best food I've ever had at an airport. The chicken tinga enchiladas were amazing. Mary was decent. 10 out of 10 would come back.

Really nice place I stopped in to have some breakfast during my layover. The hostess/server was just the nicest person. She made it feel like a neighborhood place instead of an airport diner. I got the full breakfast and it came out in no time. You can pay using the QR code on the receipt, so it's easy to get in and out to catch your flight.

For airport food and drinks - I was pleasantly surprised! I ordered a couple margaritas during my layover ($12 each I believe) and the steak fajitas ($21). Margaritas were delicious and the fajitas were super flavorful, with very fresh toppings. Overall, comparable to a Mexican restaurant I wouldn't expect to see at an airport. Definitely higher quality than typical airport food, and reasonable prices.

    a plate of breakfast food

Restaurant was clean, food was served quickly. My husband was happy w his breakfast: scrambled eggs, sausage, toast, and potatoes. I was less impressed with my breakfast burrito (it's meat [ham, sausage, or bacon], scrambled eggs, cheese, and sour cream in a tortilla w salsa on the side. The burrito was not great for a few reasons: even though the tortilla is browned on the outside it was cold, that paired w the sour cream and cheese inside, made the eggs and meat barely above room temperature. It almost seemed like the burrito was made before and reheated. If we ever pass through this airport again, and ate here, I'd pass on the burrito and get a generic breakfast.

We sat at the bar for a meal as we waited for our flight. The barman was very personable and ran the whole bar quite efficiently. The drink choices are fairly standard. They do have an acceptable variety of beers. The food is really quite tasty for an airport bar. I had the pork tacos. The tacos could have used a little more spiciness. My wife had a cup of chili. It was the smallest cup I've ever seen. But I'm sure it was a cup, just not filled to the top. Overall a good place to waste some time at the airport.

Chimichanga with the only chips we could get

We ate dinner here during our short layover in Minneapolis, and while there were a few disappointments, it was overall a pretty solid spot for TexMex airport food. They are located in the F gate area and have a long bar with two seating areas on either side. Lots of the seating was closed off and not being used, and they were very understaffed. Our server got to us as soon as she could, and despite her situation, she was pretty pleasant with us. We couldn't order chips at all because they didn't have enough to get through the night, which is a little wild for a Mexican restaurant. They did have margaritas, tho so we enjoyed their strawberry margarita. Their menu has gf designations for gluten-free, which was great, and our server was additionally savvy of cross contamination and warned us against the crispy taco shells. My celiac sister and I enjoyed the soft corn tacos with a yummy spicy ground beef and a burrito bowl. The hangry husband of mine was satisfied with his chimichanga. Overall, it wasn't a bad place to spend some time. If you can find seating, and if they have chips to go with your margaritas.

In terms of taste, the birria ramen was very salty, to the point that I had to water it down a bit to finish it. I appreciated the idea of having this option but I seriously think more meat and more noodles are needed for the consomé to not have an overpowering taste. The tacos tasted good as usual and had a good amount of ingredients which I loved. Previously I came here to get lengua tacos and they had very little dry lengua meat. The torta was also good in the most conventional way, which grilled chicken, mayo, and more. Back in the days I used to order a tray of tacos, 25 of them, for about $75 which I believe is still the case for the same price. I know that people in general will appreciate this establishment for its affordability on comfort food that will feed lots.

Was very surprised with the Arabe Taco... had the asada and it was great, especially for the value!! Beats anything Taco Bell can come up with plus fresh ingredients. As far as the burrito... it's just as packed and heavy as a Chipotle burrito but with REAL MEXICAN flavors... the Al Pastor is the crowd favorite and I can see why... not very traditional but very tasty! The skirt steak enchiladas were a standout and easily my favorite dish of the meal. The steak was tender, the portions were generous, and everything came together really well. It's a bit whitewashed and leans more Cal-Mex than anything you'd find in Mexico, but I'm not complaining. I love a good California burrito and asada fries, so this style has its place (especially in Minnesota). Service can be slow. It took us about an hour to get two burritos yesterday and the restaurant didn't look busy. Maybe they were just short staffed. My main issue is the salsa. They limit you to one packet per person, and it's not the slightest bit spicy. And where are the limes? This place desperately needs a salsa bar with real options and some heat. Bump up the salsa selection and stop rationing it, and this would be a solid spot. For now, I'll keep getting this to go and buying my own salsa and limes.

To begin with, our table and the menus given to us were very dirty and had lots of visible food tidbits, which made us have to clean things up a bit ourselves. That was okay, though, because I have experienced worse and wouldn't choose to let it impact my judgment to such an extent. I thought the only item that was solid was my lengua torta, which had a good amount of stuff inside ranging from meat to lettuce to mayo, and made me full in a very satisfactory way. A lot of the tacos were dry and reliant on the lime for a little bit of juice, including the birria tacos. My partner ordered the chicken, shrimp, and fish tacos, and thought they all tasted mediocre. Personally I enjoyed having some radishes because they cleansed my palate when needed. Another unfortunate event was that later that night, I experienced a severe stomachache and had to throw up. Granted, I have not tried their birria with consomé yet, which per my understanding was what made them famous since the beginning of time, at least according to a piece of newspaper I had seen next to the bathroom. The whole free dip with 5 Birria tacos was confusing as no one really knew which tacos qualified. As for the food, the horchata was okay. It wasn't super flavorful and seemed poorly mixed. I had to take the top off to try and mix it better, but the straw didn't work well. The goat Birria was very bland to me. I added all the hot sauce, but still couldn't even really taste it. I'm fancy, so I wanted something a bit more upscale. I did a little bit of research and wouldn't you know it... Colita came up. So here's how it went! Atmosphere/Appearance: Set south of downtown and a bit west of The Mall of America on Penn Avenue is this gem. There is no private parking lot, but plenty of street parking to leave your fly ride. But once you walk up to the restaurant you can immediately understand the message they're trying to send. Everything looks so modern, straightforward with straight lines, grey colors and light woods. There is a small outdoor section where you can dine if you get lucky enough to land a spot there. Inside carries a very similar style with a little nod to the pueblos and architecture of the southwest. The decor is minimalistic and the "loudest" thing in the room is the live plant wall seated directly behind the bar, which was super cool. Service: I can't remember who took care of us, but we had no issues whatsoever. Food/Drink: I was able to try so many different dishes and drinks here and the list is below... : Xochitl In Love : La Clandestina : Tuna Tostada : Chicken Tinga Tostada : Seared Scallops : Tlayuda : Colita Old Fashioned : Lamb Barbacoa Tacos : Duck Tamal However, my favorite things were the Lamb Barbacoa Tacos, Duck Tamal and Seared Scallops, in that order. The food here is phenomenal, the drinks are excellently crafted and things are served tapas style so you don't get too full off of just one thing! Order a whole bunch of stuff and share with the table! Value: As I mentioned earlier, I wanted upscale and the priced dddooo reflect that. Lol. This is a nice place so be prepared to spend...
