We stopped in here after a day at the mall. This was my first time at a Chevy's but my friends are fans. They love the fajitas. I opted for a quesadilla which was very good and huge and then we got a table guacamole to share. They had a decent happy hour deal. I wasn't a fan of their queso and also that chips and salsa were not complimentary. We had to pay per basket of chips. The prices were a little higher than I felt they should be. The thing I remember most was how friendly, attentive, and accurate our server Viviana was. They have a larger menu to choose from with some weekly specials. I went for lunch and ordered the combo meal - a steak quesadilla paired with tortilla soup which ran for about $17. The soup was okay, but I've had more flavorful versions elsewhere. The steak quesadilla was filled nicely and tasted great. I haven't been here in over 10 years and actually avoided it because of a bad memory of it in the past, but it seems to have changed for the better. We have been going to Chevs for many years and have always enjoyed the food. We had not been t/here for awhile so decided to go for lunch. first we were surprised that the chips and salsa, which had always been included in your meal now had to be paid for. A basket of chips and a small salsa was $3.99. if you wanted extra salsa it was $1.99 for each additional small serving. The place was not very busy but our server was missuing in action for the most part. No drink refills. We will be going to Cantina Laredo at the MOA instead from now on. read more

Came here fora Mom's happy hour gathering and the happy menu was very limited for food and drinks with service being spotty. I didn't like it that when I wanted to start a food order, the server didn't seem like she wanted to take my order and told me that I should wait for the rest of the group to order food. I didn't have lunch and need to have some food in my tummy prior to partaking in any alcoholic beverages. The rest of our group wasn't going to be there until 45 minutes later. We had to ask for extra straws more than four times. I haven't been back to Chevys for long time because of the service not being great. I've been here maybe 1-2 other times before. Food is more so Tex-mex than authentic tasting. Also don't believe the quality and taste match the prices. It's a bit expensive. The most recent visit was a Friday night during happy hour. The waiter talked us into ordering the bigger drinks and my friend could barely drink hers (which isn't his fault). We ordered a variety of food but I'll only comment on things I tried which were the mango habanero wings (special limited time menu) and the nachos grande w/ chicken and chopped jalapeños (which were an extra $3). The wings were good and flavorful. The nachos were pretty soggy under the top layer and were kind of bland. Luckily the nachos were part of the happy hour special. The waiter seemed super busy the whole time but the restaurant wasn't that busy, especially for a Friday night. I don't know that I'd go back since the food was bland and the prices are high. Chevys is located across the mall of America and close to hotels in the area. They happened to be one of the only places opened around the mall on New Years Eve evening. We were in a time crunch to eat before an escape room scheduled at 10:00pm back in the mall. Mexican food, love their chips and salsa, it was happy hour so half off on appetizers and I love their flautas and their sweet sauce. Our server was super friendly and nice and got us in and out in our time frame. They had TVs by the bar and they were showing football instead of basketball. But they were like 15 minutes apart, which maybe would have been fine if 3 adults, but my 3 year old was just losing his sh*t watching everyone else eat their ice cream/dessert. His was the simplest- just vanilla ice cream! So it felt unnecessary and kind of cruel, lol. Also they came and sang happy birthday at the tail end of my nephew finishing his brownie sundae. Water was brought out quickly and server was attentive and helpful. We ordered some drinks. I had the pina colada which was tasty and smooth like slush. I ordered the chipotle chicken enchiladas. Salsa chicken, jack cheese, fresh corn and chipotle-sherry cream sauce. It was delicious. I ordered the crème brûlée and that was a good portion and yummy. Service was fast and friendly. I lived in Sacramento for a number of years and Chevys were everywhere. They were a consistent go-to for good, if not great, Mexican food. Based on only one happy hour, the one in Bloomington doesn't measure up. Both the margarita and the nachos tasted soapy -- as though things hadn't been rinsed thoroughly. The nachos were hot and the cheese was melty, but still kinda Midwest in flavor, which is to say, "ZERO heat." Thank goodness a bottle of Cholula was nearby. I may try it again but I'll look to the more traditional offerings on the main menu, not the happy hour nibbles. All that said, if you know and love Mexican food... well, don't set your expectations too high. read more

It's nice that this place is attached to the hotel so I didn't even have to leave the hotel to grab a quick lunch. It wasn't very crowded so I just sat at the bar to grab a quick soup and salad combo. The soup was tortilla and was good. The chopped salad was overflowing with blue cheese bacon and other goodies. It was very good but I could have used a little more salad dressing but otherwise pretty tasty. Prices seem high for lunch but it could be the location which is across the street from the mall. Great food, my tastebuds exploded with flavor, you know it's good when the complimentary salsa is something you could drink. We had the farmer's market quesadilla, which made me feel like I was back home sampling all the variety of vegetables in my local farmer's market. We also tried the chipotle chicken enchilada, it was really spicy but it burned so good, the blush and the sinus rinse was so worth it. Another highlight, surprisingly, was that this establishment contained the cleanest public bathrooms my friend and I had experienced in forever. Absolutely the worst Guac I've ever had. $16 for an avocado, tiny amount of tomato, and jalapeño...ole! Followed that up with a cup of velveeta cheese melted like a brick with nearly no poblanos, etc in it for $12+. The chicken enchiladas were good but definitely not worth the $20. Top that off with a couple of crappy margaritas for $12 each and you get the privilege of paying $100 for a meal I wouldn't feed my x-wives family. Hosted book club at Chevys this week. They were able to accommodate our large group with short notice. I ordered the fajita burrito; which I would get again. The smoked salsa offered was a big hit and when a friend asked for a small to go container to take home the rest our server brought her a full new container! It was great service. Always love the Mexican restaurants that give chips and salsa while you wait. The atmosphere was nice. Not overly crowded as expected on a Fridsy night, which helped with being able to walk right in and get a seat. I was in town for the Chiefs game on Sunday and needed a bite to eat. I will say this location is conveniently located by the Mall of America, the airport, and our hotel. I have mixed feelings in the service received for several reasons, one being that it stated off good. The waiter was very attentive and made recommendations based on his personal experience with the items. So that's where things went a bit downhill for me. He recommended the shrimp and crab enchiladas. I immediately asked what the spice level was as I saw habanero in the description, but his response was that it was not overly spice. That the meal had a little kick but nothing more. To my surprise, I could barely eat it because it was beyond spicy. It's the kind of spicy where you'd have to water with each bite. So I tell the waiter and he gives me a look like what do you want me to do about it. Strike One !! The sauce that is poured over the enchiladas is where the spice is, so I ask the server to bring me some flour tortillas in an attempt to salvage the filling. BOTTOM LINE.... don't get the shrimp and crab enchiladas if you don't like Spicy food. Horrible experience. So then i got the ticket and see a charge for tortillas that should have been offered and comped when I was unable to enjoy my meal. My friend's experience was much better with the grilled tacos with chicken. She said they were very filling to day the least. Over all the food quality was ok for a chain. Service started good but ended bla. My 3 stars are for how things were handled or not the moment I told the server I couldn't eat my meal. There was a basketball game being played out on the speaker system, a crossing signal dinging as the metro slowly crossed a nearby intersection and jet airplanes zoomed overhead taking off for parts unknown. We stayed at the Homewood suites and this restaurant is attached to the hotel and was recommended by the hotel clerk. You get 10% off of your bill if you show your room key. Service was great and so was the food. I got the combination plate with enchilada and chimichanga. Portion size was perfect and tasted great. It came with rice and refried beans. I also got a large margarita on the rocks and enjoyed it alot. My husband got a large frozen and had no complaints. I prefer my chips warm and they were cold but that's fine. My daughter had a quesadilla and she really liked it which is saying alot because she is extremely picky. My other daughter had the shrimp enchilada which she said she loved. She didn't care for the rice. I thought the rice was fine though. Overall I would recommend eating here. Price was reasonable. read more

After walking 9 miles at the Mall of America the previous day, I did not want to venture out far from my hotel on my last night. This restaurant is located right outside of the Homewood Suites, which was very convenient. I settled on fish tacos, with the fish of the day being salmon that day. It may not look like much in the pictures because I ordered the sauce and pico de gallo on the side so I could control how much of each to put on the tacos. The server was awesome. She made sure to include everything I asked for and was super friendly. I asked for extra limes or lemon to put on my tacos and she gave me a container of both. They will give you free chips and salsa even if you are ordering to go. It was a huge bag of chips and at least 8 ounces of salsa. The tacos came with a small tasty sweet corn cake, rice and beans. You can choose from 3 different types of beans. I selected black beans. The salmon was ok, a little dry, but I added the chipotle sauce, pico and lime juice so it was just fine. I would've preferred a different fish like cod or something but I knew what I was getting before I ordered. The salsa had a smoky taste to it so I thought it gave it a good flavor that worked well with the chips. Service was prompt and courteous. Food was tasty and reasonably priced. The second star is only because the waitress was kind and sweet but setup to fail from start so we still tipped 20% because she did not deserve to be dinged for a deceiving decision her higher ups have made. 2. Don't promise me fresh then bring me store bought please. LOOK THERE right on the wrapping they put the store bought tortillas in it says fresh every 53 seconds flat. The waitress said the tortilla press "just" broke. I get that things happen sometimes, but when the manager came by she let it slip that the machine has been broken for over a month- it's twenty years old - and a new one is 10,000 dollars! Okay I hear you, BUT if FRESH is your thing.. to bring store bought to the table and then act like we are unreasonable to tell you we are disappointed about it is not okay. Equally disappointing was the attitude about it from the manager who when we told her we noticed and that it effected the quality of our experience essentially shrugged her shoulders and said, "sorry can't do nothing!" Without the fresh tortillas this place is little more than a sit down version of a drive-thru taco place (THINK Taco Johns or Bell) IMHO - so until they get their mind made up about whether to fix or replace the tortilla machine, I recommend finding somewhere else to dine. This place has so much potential! The restaurant is attached to the hotel. Additionally, if you show your room card you get 15% off your bill. The food was really good. Probably the best Flautas we have ever had. They were filled with plenty of filling and the sauces that came with them were amazing. The crab and shrimp quesadillas were exceptional and had plenty of flavor. The steak tacos were filled and the meat was tender. I would recommend getting the appetizer version of the chicken flautas versus the dinner as you get two more flautas, unless you really want the rice and beans. Now here comes the reason that the restaurant only has three stars. First off it took forever to get a waiter over to our table and they were not busy in the seating area, as you can see when I took the dining room photo. When the waiter came, he smelled of alcohol and had the demeanor or someone intoxicated with slow slurred speech and reactions. When he took our order he messed up on everything. The server came over to our table to deliver our food and it was nothing that we had order. There then appeared to be some confrontation with our waiter and the food server. The food was then taken back and the waiter came over to re-take our order. By now two other tables were seated and they were getting there food. We never received a refill on our water or was asked how anything was after we got her food. We also happened overhear two other tables around us stating that their bills were wrong and they had to get a manager to correct it. A female manager was walking around collecting all the errors our waiter was doing this evening. The unfortunate part was the female manager never apologized to any of the tables or us for any of the inconvenience and or stress caused by such confusion. The waiter never apologized and actually came over and had the audacity to ask if we wanted some dessert. When we received our bill, of course it was incorrect. We advised that we were occupants of the hotel and was advised to show our card for a discount. This was done initially but due to the intoxication of the waiter, I am sure he forgot. The female manager brought the bill over and it had been corrected. It is unfortunate that this was our first and last experience with this place. The place has some really good food, so if you are willing to roll the dice on service and a proper bill, it might be worth a shot. I am trying to be fair, thus the 3 star, but the complete lack of acknowledgment of the very unprofessional service has left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

I'm a little disappointed with Chevy's. It's not as good as it used to be. I remember they used to make the tortillas fresh in house. Not so much anymore. I can't into this location and was greeted and seated promptly. I sat in the bar area since it was just myself. The manager quickly brought my drink and chips and salsa. The chips were ok. A little stale. And the salsa wasn't as good as I remember. I ordered the combo two cheese enchiladas. It just wasn't good. The red sauce they used was flavorless. And the cheese for the enchilada was just bad. The black beans had no flavor and the rice was dry. When I was asked for my Id for my card I handed it to the bartender and kept my hand out to have it handed back to me. It was placed on the table in front of me. When he came back with the check I had my hand out again and higher this time and he still placed it on the table. I called him out on it. If someone had their hand out they want it handed to them. Please remind your employees to be aware of little things like this. It can come off as rude when ignored.
