Fish sandwich
Mikey A.

The weather was cloudy but the Painted Turtle's fish sandwich sure brightened up my day! The fish and fries were cooked fresh and perfectly :) there is a large patio area to enjoy the views of the lake and plenty of space for a picnic in the sand or grass. I saw an update that they will be able to serve beer next week too! Great spot to enjoy a day outside and get food and ice cream :) will definitely be back again to try the rest of the menu. There is street parking close to the paid parking lot if you want to skip the $2 parking fees!

We went for a nice late lunch with our almost two year old boy. When we arrived, we ordered at the windowthe gals working were very friendly, and kept the line moving fairly quickly. They give you a number beeper when your order is ready. There are only a couple high chairs and had to have help procuring one, and when we got our food I had to ask for sauce for his tenders and my beer which they forgot, but they were on top of it and very helpful. There's plenty of seating along the lake, nice view, and some seating with cover sort of inside between the bar and counter also. I ordered the mahi mahi tacos with chips and salsa. Everything was really good, the fish was nicely grilled how I like, and the corn salsa and slaw went nicely. Even the chicken tenders and waffle fries I stole some bites of were pretty tasty.

Ice cream is fairly average but good prices for the stunning view and vibes. Love the golden Oreo flavor

You can't beat lakeside views. Good menu selection for vegetarians too! The veggie Chicago dog was very good. We'll be back.

Firehouse Subs

Stopped at the Firehouse Subs in MSP Airport during a layover because, hey, who doesn't want a hot…read moresandwich before their next flight? Unfortunately, this Firehouse felt more like a fire drill -- lots of motion, not much coordination. The staff looked like and acted like they didn't want to be there and then someone had just yelled "everybody make sandwiches!" and then left the room. Service was slower than boarding Group 9, and by the time my sub arrived, I was halfway through my emotional support chips. As for the sandwich -- let's just say it didn't quite live up to the usual Firehouse standard. More like Smoke Detector Subs -- something was missing, and it definitely wasn't flavor from being too fresh. Two stars because I did eventually get food, and it was edible. But next time I might just grab a granola bar and call it a win. If you're hungry and have time to burn, give it a shot. If you're in a hurry... you might want to bring your own siren.

Misleading... on two parts…read more 1)Also, they charge a mandatory (non-tip) service charge but don't tell you. Why not just include that into the cost? 2) The menu is misleading. They actually use the smaller bottles of juice than the small bottles. Until now I didn't even know... to be fair, it does appear all the other vendors have similarly small versions and drinks are more expensive here than other airports. Also made my order after another couple. It should be first-in-first-out at the airport. I wouldn't mind the delay normally but at an airport, time -can- be precious.

Old school all the way. There's a restaurant in the back, and a full-scale deli counter in the front. It is such a good stop. They have their own private parking lot too. Wood paneling, and a bunch of local reviews all over the walls. Clean, normal sound. Simple, with excellent customer service, and a huge menu that will have something that you like. Packed the midweek afternoon we visited, and we did not wait for a table. Loved my bowl of Matzo Soup, superb broth and the Matzo was delicious. Enjoyed my BLT on whole wheat and the homemade potato salad was amazing! Had a cherry cobbler for dessert that was incredible. Restaurant has been open for over 70 years, and I met the owner/manager, Cecil, afterward, and he just oozes customer service being a priority. It's a must-visit place.

The line for baked goods was also busy but moved quick and wow - I regret not getting any of the baked goods. They looked phenomenal. I had the Leonard Da Vinci which was outstanding. The gardiniera was the perfect level of spice and the sandwich was jam packed with salami and turkey. The Cole slaw was also delicious. The vibe inside is very Eastern European deli authentic which is so fun. They had tons of to go items for sale as well and a huge grab and go beverage selection. The seating area was spacious and packed on a warm spring day.

Clancy's has great sandwiches and supports the community with big hearts and concern. At lunch,…read morethere can be a mad rush for their classic roast beef sandwich, but the staff handles the crowd with efficiency and detail. I was on the street in front of Clancy's when one of their customers was mis-identified as an officer of an organization that was terrorizing Minneapolis. It had nothing to do with Clancy's! As I tried to get to my car, people yelled the most obscene and disgusting epitaphs at the couple in front of me. I was just walking down Grand Avenue. They were even spitting at this innocent individual. As a liberal who marched for civil rights and against the war in Vietnam during the 1960s and 1970s, I was horrified. Blaming Clancy's is ignorant, and an integral part of how this country is dismantling. Clancy's Meats & Fish is important to our neighborhood, and represents the kindness and empathy that has been representative of Minnesota for decades. Give them your support.

On one side is a meat market with a variety of cuts of steaks, lamb, and other meats, which all looked fresh and quite nice. They also have a variety of items such as canned goods, pasta, eggs, etc. on the shelves opposite the meat counter. The entire place is quite sunny, pleasant, and cozy. On the other side is the eat-in, take-out deli sandwiches, that are made to order. The quality of the ingredients is excellent. The bread is freshly made (crispy baguette type) and you have a choice of Roast Beef, Roast Turkey, Tuna Salad, Smoked Ham, or Corned Beef. All sandwiches are $16.50 each (including tax) and come with a choice of mayonnaise, spicy stone ground mustard, red leaf lettuce, thin sliced red onion, salt, pepper, oil, vinegar, raw grated horseradish, pickled jalapeno, and roasted bell pepper. The default includes all toppings so if you don't want everything, be sure to specify what you do NOT want. Surprisingly, they do not carry any diet soda, nor do they stock any national brands (only local pop). There is a large menu on the wall, and you order at the counter and pick up the order (no table service). The food was attractively presented, and very, very good. My only gripe (besides the lack of diet pop) is that it's on the expensive side for lunch. Two sandwiches, a couple of bags of chips, and a couple of cans of pop will easily top $40, although I'd say the quality is top-notch.

Parking is easy, as there is a free public lot about 50 feet away, and street parking is also available. The workers are always friendly, and often will give you cheese samples (yum). I have never had a bad sandwich here. Some favorites are the chicken salad, the prosciutto-fig-ricotta, and the sweet chorizo. Today, I ordered the Turkey club and the Sandwich of the Week, the La Tur, which had a cow, goat and sheep milk cheese with blueberry honey jam, greens and bacon. It was good, but don't get this sandwich unless you like cheeses that REALLY have that sheep flavor! There are a few small tables for 2 tucked inside by the register, and a couple of small tables outside in nice weather, but this is really more of a grab'n go place. We took these on the plane with us the next day, as we were traveling. Pro Tip: You can earn France 44 rewards at this location, just tell them you are a member when you get to the register!

It was the perfect consistency, seasoned really well, and can still taste the freshness of the tomatoes. For the melt, I got the truffle that came with double cream brie, gruyere, mushrooms, honey and black truffle. Everything was melted to perfection and the truffle was delicious without being overwhelming. The bread had a really good crunch to give some texture with the melty gooey cheese. Despite having so much cheese, it wasn't a super heavy meal. More of a take out place. There's a couple tables outside to eat but it was also really windy and hot the day I went so I ate pretty quickly.
