The soaked in butter bread is a bit off putting for me. It's like oily wet bread. All of that butter upset my stomach. I only ate 1/3 of it...and had to toss it. Yeah, that's very disappointing. Other options are to sit at one of about half a dozen picnic tables, or there is seating inside the restaurant. Frankly, Wagners was getting a bit run-down, but they have spruced up the place in the last couple of year, with a well-deserved paint job, new speakers, and new picnic tables. They even have hand held credit card readers, which saves the waitstaff from making extra trips to process your card. The menu has all of the classics you would want, from a variety of tasty, juicy hamburgers, hot and cold sandwiches, meals that include fries, coleslaw, and toast. Their French fries are crinkle cut and excellent: crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The onion rings are good and you can have Chile in a bowl or on your hamburger or hotdog. There are milkshakes, desserts, kids' meals and smoothies. I've eaten here for years and the food is always reliably great, the service is always friendly and the prices are very reasonable. I also like the layout, where you can order at one window, pickup at another (there is a board where you can keep track and even see how many minutes until your order is ready!), and yet another window for pop refills and dessert orders. Very well thought out. I thought the hamburger was very high quality: juicy, tasty, and a good char flavor. The fries were good too: shoestring, but well cooked: not greasy and not overcooked, which is easy to do with thin fries. The portion is huge and seems like it is made to split with another person, or even two. I did also get their soft serve ice cream and that was yummy too. A few quibbles: It's tricky to get to because you can SEE it off of Highway 7, but its off a frontage road. I recommend using a GPS the first time you go there, so you don't keep waiving to it from Highway 7. The second quibble is this: Why do they ask for a tip when it's self-service at the counter window (or even at a self-service kiosk, or online, you pick up the order from the window and you bus your own table. Exactly who is the tip for because there is no waitstaff? If it's for the people who cook the food, isn't that by definition what they are paid for? This tip thing in the US is way out of whack. Also, there is an upcharge if you use a credit card which is actually a third quibble. Those three quibbles equal a subtraction of one star.
