We liked Milkstand so much we came here twice for breakfast on a weekend visit to Ithaca. One day my husband had the chorizo skillet scramble and I had the veggie omelet, the other day I had the chorizo skillet scramble and he had the piglet skillet scramble. All breakfasts were delicious, the coffee was good and served in generously sized mugs. The service was impeccable and the restaurant was bright, clean and inviting with a contemporary decor. We love going out to breakfast while on vacation and Milkstand did not disappoint. Please note that their parking lot is a bit small. We were there on Monday and a Tuesday in July and did not have to wait for a table but I expect that is not the case during the rest of the year or on weekends as this place is quite good. read more

If we went twice in one weekend there's something worth writing about right? The answer is yes! Milkstand offered a perfect spot for a brunch date with my husband. We loved the date so much we recommended it to friends when we wanted a breakfast spot to catch up before long journeys home from a weekend in Ithaca. The things that stuck out were general food quality was good. We somehow enjoyed and finished our meals with no leftovers and without feeling super stuffed. The stars were the mini hash browns. They were seasoned perfectly and I'm still thinking about them. We appreciated the staff told us we could get a side of the buttermilk pancake, which allowed us to get both our savory and sweet without over ordering. The Benedict was definitely my favorite and I wish I ordered it again. The second time in the same weekend I ended up getting sweet garlic chicken and waffles. The chicken was delicious and the waffle was good, but not as good as the buttermilk pancakes. My husband ordered the chorizo skillet and gobbled the whole thing down, which he normally doesn't do. We got lucky both times and had no wait. We did notice the line was out the door and barely any parking remaining. But we get why, it's a cozy modern spot with really good food. Had I not just woken up and rolled out of bed going here both times, would love to try the lunch and those milkshakes on the dessert menu. A Great Idea, Poorly Executed I've been to Milkstand 3 times now and I'm sad to say it's been disappointing every time. I live an hour away and my son and I occasionally decide to take a day trip to Ithaca, and so we've given Milkstand 3 chances. The ambiance is great, it's full of these sort of steampunk lightbulb lamps that give off a perfect glow and there's a '50's soda fountain aesthetic. It's a fun place to be. We come on Sundays when there's a long wait, be we haven't minded because it's just a fun place to stand around. The service has been exceptionally good every time, super friendly and attentive. The problem has been the food. Today I got a plate of eggs, sausage, grits and sausage gravy - and it was like a bowl of salty mush that honestly upset my stomach. The time before I got a chorizo scramble that tasted overly fried and not fresh, and was small for the price. Actually everything is small for the price. Today I got a side of toast (to mop up my salty, gross mush) and it was A SINGLE piece of toast cut in half. They seem to be known for their milkshakes (served with the metal mixing canister on the side, the old fashioned way (which is great) but it's an incredibly average shake. Totally forgettable, like you blended cheap ice cream and milk at home. It looks like a restaurant that is bound to have really well made food but in my experience, the quality was slightly beneath a Friendly's or other assembly line chain. I will say that my 11 year old did mostly enjoy his meals, all sweet breakfasts, and he liked the crispy, deep fried home fries. Was visiting friends in town and they had gotten the suggestion to go here for breakfast. When we got here we were told it was a 35min wait, not problem. As 55 mins had gone by one member of our party had gone in to check and they had us down as sitting, when we've been outside the restaurant the whole time. The atmosphere is great and the booths are really, really nice to sit in. The restaurant is a good space and nice place to be. It was our family, a party of six, this morning, our first time trying Milkstand. As longtime lovers of Ithaca and the food scene here we hoped and expected this new establishment to fall right into place as one of our new favorites because the place looks so great inside and the menu seemed so promising. Two of us ordered burgers and they were both simply mediocre and were brought to us a full 10 or more minutes before the other four people were fed. We were really surprised. Places that survive in Ithaca just don't serve food as basic as this at these prices. The rest of the dishes were OK but really nothing special. Our English muffin came out almost completely untoasted, and when I asked the server to bring us out a toasted English muffin, she seemed completely unsurprised and happy to help, but she brought it out when we were totally done with our meal. Hopefully this restaurant thrives with many people that find their own reasons to love Milkstand, but we will eat elsewhere.
