Let's start off by saying how amazing the lady behind the counter was. She was so nice and patient with us. It took me a while to figure out which one I wanted because they all sounded so good. Well, I decided on the campfire s'mores you can't go wrong with that one. It had a chocolate and marshmallow ring around the glass. I first spotted the pending arrival of MilkShake Factory at its Avon location while on the way out to my parents' home. When I noticed that Nora, much closer to my house, was getting one I knew that a stop was to be near in the future. Okay, so the basics. Yes, this is a chain. It started in Pittsburgh in 1914, or at least what would become this chain started then. If you think about it, that was a time when even the idea of refrigeration was fairly new and definitely considered a luxury. So, getting a milkshake was a definite treat. Multiple generations of a family moved from soda fountains to chocolatiers to milkshakes. It was in the mid-90s that MilkShake Factory was actually born - the fourth generation of the family to actually have this tradition. These days, milkshakes are front-and-center while chocolates are definitely still a strong presence. The product is still premium. MilkShake Factory carries classic shakes (the usual flavors), signature shakes, gourmet shakes, limited time shakes, dairy-free shakes, chocolates, a handful of non-shake items, and a decor that brings to mind those old days of soda fountains. Shake prices start around $7 or so and go higher. Again, I'd consider this a more premium but not outrageous experience. This location is ideally located right along the Monon Trail at 82nd Street. It's a great spot with a handful of indoor tables, a row of lawn-type chairs (nicer, wood) along the backside, and easy carry-out. Accessible parking is located almost directly in front of it. The glass door is pretty easy to open. The floor plan is pretty open, though I did have to move one item to gain true wheelchair access. There were a handful of employees working - I'll admit I find this refreshing. I know that money can be tight, but I always like seeing more than 1-2 employees in a shop. I ordered a fairly basic chocolate shake. It's one of the "classic" shakes and one of the least expensive. It came with whipped cream in a modestly sized plastic classic (nicely done, attractive but definitely different than the glasses shown in photos). Employees were friendly. My impression? I think this is likely going to be a bigger deal for those who embrace the gourmet and specialty shakes. The chocolate shake wasn't quite as thick as I'd expected, however, the gourmet and specialty shakes seem to be truly a lot more special. When I return (and I will), I'll likely move out of the classic shakes and into something a bit more extravagant. At this point, I'm feeling more of a 4-star than a 5-star. However, I don't consider it out of the question that I'll fork over that 5th star upon my return and once I start trying other flavors. I may have gone too basic this time around. I'm also wanting to try their chocolates. I look forward to returning and to also trying out the Avon location the next time I'm out that way. read more

You're not gonna find no five-dollar shakes here. Sorry, honey bunny. But you will find classic milkshakes (vanilla, chocolate, strawberry) for under $7, and specialty milkshakes (fancier shakes with stuff in them) for around $10. Not too bad, considering. One thing you need to know, though: The consistency of the milkshakes at the MilkShake Factory in Nora are a little thinner than you'd expect, or maybe thinner than you'd like. They're more like a smoothie consistency. These are not the kind of milkshakes where you'll need a spoon handy. A straw will do. This detail was told to me by my children, who got milkshakes: the Chocolate Cake Shake and the Confetti Frosted Cupcake Shake. Apparently, the Chocolate Cake Shake tastes just like chocolate cake! I'll be danged. I didn't get a milkshake, because my milkshake and ice cream days are kind of over. I just don't have a taste for ice cream like I used to -- it's all just sweet mucus to me. But I did want to join in on the family fun, so I got a root beer float. A root beet float is more like a beverage, so less like mucus. My root beer float was super refreshing! They use Hank's root beer, which I had never tasted before, but it was very good. There are some tables inside MilkShake Factory, so you can enjoy your sweet treats indoors. There's also a water bottle refill station inside, which is nice because MilkShake Factory is located off of the Monon Trail, and I'm sure they see lots of walking and biking traffic. When the weather is nice, you will probably want to take your milkshake outside, where there are plenty of Adirondack chairs at which to sit. read more

I honestly didn't expect it to taste that good, but it surprised me! It was really enjoyable, just a little sweeter than I prefer. We also got the Cookies & Cream bark and the Toasted Coconut bark. The Cookies & Cream was my favorite, so good. What really stood out was the service. The Milkshake Factory did not disappoint! We visited this location after having dinner as a family for our youngest son's 25th birthday! My 5 year old twin grandsons loved it! They have a lot of different variety of flavors and cool creation's! They appeared to be a little short staffed that evening, but the service was great and the atmosphere was bright and inviting. The chocolate cake shake is a limited time special--so, my 13-year-old companion choose it. At $11, you may think--that's pricey. I was able to sample the bananas foster milkshake (thank you, Erin!) and decided to get the Peanut Butter Meltaway Cookie Sundae and took the Vegan Chocolate Shake (add peanut butter sauce) home for the hubs. Sometimes, it is important for me to remember that when you go "out", you are paying for the experience and memories just as much as you are paying for the actual items being purchased. This was an important reminder as I visited the Milkshake Factory with my family of five. Let me start by saying the desserts at the Milkshake Factory are top notch. If you are craving a perfectly crafted dessert consisting of premium ice cream, milk and various toppings and mix-ins, Milkshake Factory is THE place. Some of the best milkshakes I've had since Kelis was bringing me to the yard. ;) After much deliberation from my children, we decided on two Choclatiers, a Cookie Brownie Fudge, the surprising delicious Campfire S'mores and a classic strawberry shake. (Fun fact: Sometimes I just crave a strawberry shake. Not usually ice cream, but an actual shake. If I am ordering a milkshake and can't decide ... strawberry for the win. It's also interesting that a strawberry milkshake will let you know if the ice cream establishment is actually any good. Anyone can throw more chocolate or brownie pieces into a cup and make it taste good. You want to know if a place really knows what they are doing? Order the strawberry. You heard it here, first.) The milkshakes were incredible. Based on taste alone, 5 stars and more! My strawberry shake had bits of strawberries all throuhout and was simply refreshing. The various chocolate shakes were perfect. But let me tell you about that Campfire S'mores! True confession: I don't like s'mores. A Hoosier who loves to camp who doesn't like s'mores. I feel like a disgrace to the Midwest (Not really! You can keep your crappy dessert). However, I'll pay respect where respect is due. And this freaking Campfire S'mores milkshake deserves ALL the r-e-s-p-e-c-t! It cost a little more because it also includes a s'more topper, a marshmallow dipped in chocolate and then coated in crushed golden graham cereal. Even that was good! But that milkshake had something special. Maybe the marshmallow cream? I don't know, but I had SEVERAL tastes of my daughter's shake, to her dismay. Haha. And the people behind the counter were very patient with my indecisive family. So far, everything has been a 5-star rating. So, why the 4 stars? Simply put, as a 48-year-old dad, spending $55 on ice cream that will vanish into bellies in the next 30 minutes is a little hard to, well, stomach. Each milkshake we purchased was between $7 for the classic all the way to almost $12 for the s'mores. For me, the Milkshake Factory would be the perfect end to a 1:1 date. That's $20 to sit across from each other and stare into each others eyes as you gently, yet firmly suck ... your delicious ice cream through a straw. (Yes, this dad also has some pretty good date tips. The milkshake ends well for you, I promise.) In all fairness to Milkshake Factory, we had also gone to dinner so it was hard for this dad not to think: "Oh, I wasn't really planning on dropping $200 on food today" Haha. So, $50 for delicious ice cream and a fun family memory is not out of the question every once in a while, but if they had some sort of kid's menu (they do not), this would have been 5 stars. read more

I came in on a Sunday afternoon and it was packed! I looked at the hours on their website it stated that they opened at 2p but it looked like they had been open far earlier. I got the Bananas Foster milkshake, it was good, however, it was a bit more soupy and not as frozen of a milkshake, by the time I got home, it was fairly melted down. The chocolate piece topping the milkshake is a nice touch .. it was a good chunk. The chocolate piece was a really good milk chocolate flavor. In addition to milkshakes they do offer chocolate confectionery items. I also purchased the chocolate almond bark and that was delicious! When I walked in, I saw a nice display of chocolate bark that looked amazing and the menu of milkshakes on the wall. They have a unique selection of milkshakes to choose from, as well as chocolate cups which is ice cream with chocolate and toppings. The ambiance is very nice and definitely resembles a ice cream shop, except it is milkshakes. I walked up to the counter and the nice girl greeted me with a big smile and asked for my order. I just went with a classic mint chip Shake. I waited a few minutes because the place was packed, but within five minutes, my mint chip Shake was ready for pick up. The gentleman who made my shake greeted me with a smile and told me to have a nice day. I took a sip of the mint chip shake and it was heaven!! It definitely tasted like mint chocolate chip, and it was smooth and cold just like a milkshake should be. I would definitely like to try one of the gourmet milkshakes the next time I come back, because the banana cream pie milkshake looked incredible. I have been wanting to try this place out since I first seen that they had opened. So on Sunday I finally gave in and made the stop since I was in the Nora area shopping. Let me just it was the best decision I made. I went at the perfect time because it wasn't a crowd in there maybe like two other customers besides me. After I was in there for 5 min it had got a crowd. The cashier had answered any questions I had about different items on the menu. I love how they have a non diary milkshake which is really great. The prices were your typical prices for a milkshake store of this caliber. Even though there were a lot of great options I opted to stick with my favorite cookies n cream milkshake. My first experience at The Milkshake Factory was disappointing. I ordered a peanut butter ice cream dessert, not a milkshake but one of their other ice cream options, and it just wasn't good. The ice cream tasted low quality and had icy crystals throughout, like it hadn't been stored properly. The flavor combination was fine, but for the price, the quality wasn't worth it.
