    Dark chocolate

How have I not reviewed Xchocol'Art yet?! Owner Joann is one of the sweetest and most passionate people you'll meet. She sustainably sources her chocolate and visits the female-run farm where the cacao beans grow in South America. She truly curates the entire process of her chocolate making, down to the delicate decorations she artfully paints on top of each truffle. You can pick up chocolates galore at her downtown Carmel shop or by ordering on her website or Etsy page. You can also visit her at the Carmel or Broad Ripple farmers markets. I personally love the peach caramels, dark chocolate truffles, chocolate bars, and hot chocolate bombs (they just made a Valentine's Day version!). Joann has won awards for her chocolate all over the world, including placing at the London Academy of Chocolate award for her whiskey and honey truffle. The chili and chocolate truffle has also gained a ton of love. Such unique combinations! Now go try them!

Really great chocolates! Got the "world tour" 18 piece pack and every type was amazing! Good to know the owners handmake these and they're dealt kind. Located in the arts district of Carmel, the place is really pretty! All around great service.

Sea foam candy in dark chocolate is my favorite and this one is SO Good!!! First, this candy is very temperamental and thus, not easy to make. (Some call it Sponge candy) And.. three small packages arrived in the cutest paper with announcement card. I appreciate that the candy is packaged in three smaller bags vs one that crowds the candy, etc. The quality of the chocolate is unmatched as well! So good!

There's chocolate, and then there are Joann's chocolates... Xchocol'Art chocolates are a literal work of art. Joann is so talented at making decadent and meticulously detailed chocolates that are pleasing to look at and eat. She's been a farmers' market vendor for years and finally opened up a store front in the Carmel Arts & Design District. She can do custom orders, too! Stay tuned for yoga, chocolate making classes and more fun in her upstairs space.

Let me tell you about some ridiculously tasty truffles... Particularly those that feature spirit and tea infusions or a stamping of the outline of Indiana. What's tastier than a little Hoosier pride to top off high quality ingredients and the work of chocolate artisan, Joann H.? Nada. My go-to X'Chocolart routine includes a book, dry glass of red wine and one truffle to cap off the evening. You can find these delicious truffles throughout town at gourmet food shops like Goose the Market and Wildwood Market. In other exciting news, they plan to open a stand alone chocolate shop in Q1 of 2019 in Carmel (yeah!). My persona favorites are the truffles infused with spirits as well as the caramels with a hint of sea salt. If you're looking for a beautiful and local gift for a friend or coworker, look no further!

How did I not know this cute little chocolate shop existed? It's nestled in a cute little alley right off of Main Street in Carmel. The owner is a delight and so sweet. I love the aesthetic of her shop and her chocolates. We were gifted the "around the world" flavors and they were so fun to try. Not to mention, look how cute they are!

Most recently ordered a sampling from the online store for the yelp event and was pleased with the timely arrival as well as the adorable packaging which included a coffee bean pattern tissue paper. Joann is such a sweet and passionate person. She does a wonderful job integrating her art into her confection skills, and shares it with those around her. The chocolate is delicious and sourced from Ecuador and Colombia. If you're looking for a sweet treat I recommend stopping by her shop in Carmel when the stores and businesses reopen or order something online. Since I have yet to get my mother something, I think I'll be ordering her some lovely truffles to be sent to her door this weekend. You won't be disappointed, nor will your tasting buds!

Passionfruit tartlets - melted and a little worse for the wear, but tasty nonetheless!

So my friend's neighbor runs this store (and more popularly, stall at the Farmer's Market). As a fruit tart fan and a passionfruit junkie, I decided to give it a try. She packed her tartlets nicely but as any chocolate delicacy, they suffered a sunny Carmel day and melted QUITE a bit. However, part of my review is for the owner Joann, her passion, and her artwork. Chocolate making is tedious and precise, and her attention to detail comes through. The filling, unfortunately too tart for my liking (I prefer traditional custard), perfect for a hot summer day. I loved the freshness of the berries and the simple craftsmanship (better evidenced at The Farmer's Market when the tartlets were fresh and not tampered with). I'd go back to take a closer look: I'm really only a white chocolate eater so the fact that I LIKED these and ate two makes these a win in my books.

entrance not visible from the street...located on the west side of the building

Although a bit hard to find (It doesn't face the street, but is set back and faces west), this small new business is worth the hunt! Just a short distance west of where the Monon Trail crosses Main, take the sidewalk on the side of the building that has KURR and Main Street Treats to find the entrance. Inside this elegantly decorated shop are glass display cases of shop made chocolates that come in a variety of shapes and flavors. The rest of the shop has packaged options and even a mural painted by one of the co-owners. The idea of the shop grew out of a passion for art that led to an interest in creating chocolate designs. After living in Austria where there was an apprentice like arrangement, the couple came to the US to sell chocolates while perfecting their own. After years of selling at local farmer's markets, the time was right to open their own shop. I chose a variety when I visited. Some were dark chocolate shapes made from molds that look like little robots or building blocks. Others are simple squares that are washed in an edible 'paint' that looks like an impressionist painting when you see them all together. Although they do have some milk chocolate options, there seemed to be a larger selection of dark chocolates, many of which were enhanced by flavored centers. I particularly liked the Chai flavored pieces. Note: They are Yelp fans, so if you check in before you order, you get a discount on your first purchase! Be aware that this isn't mass produced candy. It requires quality ingredients and is made in small batches by humans. So, it won't be cheap. But if you want to taste some divine tasting chocolates that are locally made, give this place a try. Superlative! Charming! Delicious! Beautiful! Artistic! Unique! I stopped in for thank you gifts and found the selection, decor and service to be exemplary. Spent time learning about the passion for creating each handmade piece, and dedication to procuring quality ingredients. If you are searching for a unique Indy gift highly recommend using the Etsy option if not in Carmel. A nice variety of ready made options if in a hurry. I hope you are able to chat with owners. It is a pleasant bonus to hear the stories behind local shops and know supporting them allows them to bring joy to others doing what they love.

I can't sing enough of the praises for the applesauce and pumpkin donut holes. They both are so moist and delicious. I can't say that I'm not one to frequently run to cake donuts but these were exceptional. They also sell a variety of other fun fall treats like popcorn balls, whipped maple syrup cream, frozen pies, apple cider and bundles of fresh apples. You can enter the store without having to pay admission for Conner Prairie. Note that the store is only open seasonally. I was treated to a caramel apple as part of a Yelp event and this was honestly one of the best caramel apples I've had! Fresh, crispy apple with rich delicious caramel that was just the right texture. Even the nuts were fresh and tasty! I bought a cider slushie and doughnut to enjoy at the picnic tables outside. This really is a lovely seating area, but be warned; the yellow jackets are in their usual fall frenzy and they looooooove doughnuts and cider. Ahhh...fall in Indiana...anyway...there is a lot of room to walk around the property without going into the paid section of Conner Prairie, and the yellow jackets thin out a bit away from the picnic area. The slushie was refreshing and delicious and doughnut was fresh and tasty! I also bought an apple fritter which was excellent even after sitting in its bag on my counter until after dinner; it was still crispy on the outside with just the right amount of glaze and the flavor was excellent. All of the chocolate items looked great as well; I must sample some of these on a future trip! The volunteers who run the Apple Store are friendly and incredibly efficient! Even though it was hopping at 12:30 on a Sunday, they moved people through very quickly.
