Cute store, tucked away off the main road. It's very tiny with a few displays of very fancy and pretty looking chocolate. It's pricey so I was unsure about spending so much on chocolate I've never heard reviews about. I'd like to go back and try some of the signature sweets though. I did get an 88% chocolate bar hoping it was like the high percentage bars I used to get in Japan, it was not. The chocolate melts very slowly, you almost have to force it with pressure since the heat in your mouth doesn't seem to trigger it. It has a nice faint sweetness at the front of your tongue but once it hits the back all you sense it overwhelming bitter and an almost sour feeling. The aftertaste is pleasant though. Yes, I know it's supposed to be bitter but I've had others that were distinct but not overpowering in bitterness. I'll continue my search for the elusive high percentage chocolate bars like I've had in the past. read more

This isn't your reject cacao beans turned into Hershey chocolate kind of chocolate... this is sophisticated chocolate to savory when you eat it and admire when you look at it. I believe I have made four purchases of delicious chocolate from Xchocol'Art. Each has been worth every penny. My most recent purchase was at the Broad Ripple Farmer's Market this past Saturday. I purchased the Mother's Day box (for myself) with delicious flavors such as Earl Grey, Passion Fruit Caramel, bourbon honey and rose raspberry. So hard to pick a favorite from the four, but I admit the passion fruit caramel was surprisingly very flavorful. I had expected to like Earl Grey the best because I love tea. The box was $30 and worth the price. This chocolate is indeed art. A few Easter's ago I purchased the cutest chocolate bunny for my mother-in-law. It made a cute table decoration in addition to tasting delicious. Will continue to be a patron of the (chocolate) arts for my special life moment needs... or when I am having a chocolate craving. ;) read more

How have I not reviewed Xchocol'Art yet?! Owner Joann is one of the sweetest and most passionate people you'll meet. She sustainably sources her chocolate and visits the female-run farm where the cacao beans grow in South America. She truly curates the entire process of her chocolate making, down to the delicate decorations she artfully paints on top of each truffle. You can pick up chocolates galore at her downtown Carmel shop or by ordering on her website or Etsy page. You can also visit her at the Carmel or Broad Ripple farmers markets. I personally love the peach caramels, dark chocolate truffles, chocolate bars, and hot chocolate bombs (they just made a Valentine's Day version!). Joann has won awards for her chocolate all over the world, including placing at the London Academy of Chocolate award for her whiskey and honey truffle. Joann is such a sweet and passionate person. She does a wonderful job integrating her art into her confection skills, and shares it with those around her. So my friend's neighbor runs this store (and more popularly, stall at the Farmer's Market). As a fruit tart fan and a passionfruit junkie, I decided to give it a try. She packed her tartlets nicely but as any chocolate delicacy, they suffered a sunny Carmel day and melted QUITE a bit. However, part of my review is for the owner Joann, her passion, and her artwork. Chocolate making is tedious and precise, and her attention to detail comes through. The filling, unfortunately too tart for my liking (I prefer traditional custard), perfect for a hot summer day. I loved the freshness of the berries and the simple craftsmanship (better evidenced at The Farmer's Market when the tartlets were fresh and not tampered with). I'd go back to take a closer look: I'm really only a white chocolate eater so the fact that I LIKED these and ate two makes these a win in my books. read more

Although a bit hard to find (It doesn't face the street, but is set back and faces west), this small new business is worth the hunt! Just a short distance west of where the Monon Trail crosses Main, take the sidewalk on the side of the building that has KURR and Main Street Treats to find the entrance. Inside this elegantly decorated shop are glass display cases of shop made chocolates that come in a variety of shapes and flavors. The rest of the shop has packaged options and even a mural painted by one of the co-owners. The idea of the shop grew out of a passion for art that led to an interest in creating chocolate designs. After living in Austria where there was an apprentice like arrangement, the couple came to the US to sell chocolates while perfecting their own. After years of selling at local farmer's markets, the time was right to open their own shop. I chose a variety when I visited. Some were dark chocolate shapes made from molds that look like little robots or building blocks. Others are simple squares that are washed in an edible 'paint' that looks like an impressionist painting when you see them all together. Although they do have some milk chocolate options, there seemed to be a larger selection of dark chocolates, many of which were enhanced by flavored centers. I particularly liked the Chai flavored pieces. Note: They are Yelp fans, so if you check in before you order, you get a discount on your first purchase! Be aware that this isn't mass produced candy. It requires quality ingredients and is made in small batches by humans. So, it won't be cheap. But if you want to taste some divine tasting chocolates that are locally made, give this place a try. So excited to see an actual store front for Xchocol'Art! I have seen them at the Farmer's Market and I am glad that they now have a place to shop right on Main Street in Carmel! You can find them just across the street from Anthony's Chophouse. They are a little hidden, just between the buildings and there were some small trees. Please take the time to seek them out and go! You will be glad that you did! It's not a huge shop, but there was so many yummy looking chocolates. We got a cup of the fabulous hot chocolate and since it was opening day they had a few samples. We also bought some treats to take home! It was cool to see the Yelp check-in coupon when we checked-in. We ended up with a nice small box of chocolate treats. Dark Chocolate Bee Pollen, passion fruit hearts, champagne truffles, and one with some dried fruit on top. I love the spoon with chocolate that you use in hot chocolates. It is everything you would hope for in a small chocolate shop... it's off the beaten path just a little, which makes it a better find. It has the feel of a cheerful European shop. The artisanal chocolates are carefully crafted, delightful to the sight, and delicious to the taste. My daughters loved it, and I can't wait to bring my wife during a date night.
