They lost several customers yesterday, and we will not be returning after this experience. After talking to a lawyer, they believe this is predatory enforcement, and we will file a complaint with the North Carolina Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division and with the Better Business Bureau. Two Scoops Creamery on Central Avenue went from being one of our favorite spots to somewhere we will never return in less than a minute. We met up with a group of friends there today. Before grabbing ice cream, we briefly stopped into Sin City next door. As one of our friends was walking in, he noticed cars in the shared parking lot were actively being booted. We had been there maybe 15 minutes. Apparently, if you step into the neighboring business at all -- even if you're planning to purchase from Two Scoops immediately after -- they will boot your car and demand $275 to remove it. We spoke directly with the staff at Two Scoops and explained that we were simply meeting up and didn't realize stepping next door wasn't allowed. The response was essentially, "Too bad." There was no grace, no warning, no attempt at understanding -- just an immediate $275 penalty. It feels like an incredibly predatory and unethical practice, especially for loyal customers who intended to support the business. We didn't even stay for ice cream, and we won't be back.

Don't get me wrong; this store can get mighty busy on a weekend in summer, but either way it's worth the wait. My husband and I discovered Jeni's in Columbus before it became a national brand, and I am delighted to say the quality has not diminished. If you like rich ice cream with both traditional and of left-of-traditional flavors (like goat cheese and red cherries or wildberry lavender), Jeni's is for you. They have dairy-free choices too. The staff at Jeni's is always patient, helping guests determine what they would like and offering up samples with their advice. While you're selecting, the scent of fresh-made waffle cones is assaulting your olfactory senses with a silent demand to choose cone over cup. Even if you select a cup, you get a wedge of crispy waffle cone to indulge with your ice cream. When I stopped by this weekend for a small cup (kiddy sized with no judgment from the staff), I was delighted to see they'd added caramel and fudge sauces; my one complaint with Jeni's has been a lack of sundaes. As a result, I had the honey vanilla ice cream rather the more robust flavors so I could sample the caramel sauce. It was very good.
