I've been to the location in Davidson with my family and everything was pretty darn good, especially (and most notable) the glazed donuts. When we found out a new location was opening, closer to where we live, we were excited! We went with online ordering for pickup and go around 8 pm a Friday night. Oddly enough, I only saw an option for the seasonal donuts...no plain glazed. I was surprised and not sure if they weren't offering them or just sold out. I must also caveat that it was a weird eventful day where I had yet to eat anything at all in 36 hours and went a bit nuts with the ordering. I got 1/2 dozen of the seasonal cranberry sour cream donuts, the mini cinnamon rolls, a large order of the chicken bites, 2 chicken sandwiches (1 hot dip, 1 original), 2 cherry, almond, chocolate lattes. This order was for my me, my husband, and two 4 yr olds. What was I thinking? HUNGER. Well, I tried the donut and initially regretted ordering so many. They were more filling than anticipated and were an interesting flavor. It was a flavor that my brain needed to adjust to because I never quite had a donut like that. It's bold. BUT once I knew what I was dealing with...OMG I kept wanting more. None went to waste...over the weekend I had them with black coffee and they were phenomenal! I really love these. The cinnamon rolls were pretty good and I actually preferred them the next day. The chicken sandwiches were good, but I find myself comparing them to my favorite spot, which isn't fair at all; this is different. I don't think the hot dip was my thing, but that's more a matter of preference vs. quality. The lattes were something! I don't like cherry flavored most things, but I am into stepping out of my comfort zone and trying new things. You don't know until you know.... I drank the whole thing by the way. The chocolate almond element was good, but yeah still didn't love the cherry. They seemed to use very nice quality espresso. Milkbread café opened in the iconic former Dairy Queen spot in the Plaza Midwood neighborhood by the Kindred restaurant folks. It's absolutely adorable! Think of a more fast casual version of the original Milkbread. This walk-up café has everything you love from the Davidson Milkbread location like the Original Chicken Sandwich, Milkbread doughnuts, etc. There is a nice little bit of parking surrounding the building, but pulling out can be tricky, so be careful of what time you go, so that you don't get stuck in traffic. Finally got to try Milkbread at their Plaza Midwood location and I am a fan! First off, I came for the donuts - I got the Original Glaze which was delicious - it was a little denser than I expected but I loved the buttery notes and cinnamon. It's def the most buttery donut I've ever had if that makes sense. I didn't have it warm but man I can only imagine how much better it is when it's fresh out of the fryer and glazed! We also got an Espresso shot - Hex coffee collab) cause Sunday was not pictured)! It was solid! I was surprised to see they had alcohol on the menu too so if you're craving a PBR (or wine) with your donut - have at it! Anyway, the real breakout star of my Milkbread experience was this Original Chicken Sandwich: 1. It's on a potato bun 2. Crispy, juicy chicken breast 3. Chicken breast to bun ratio was 100 4. Very good restaurant! I was very excited about trying out the food based on eating at Kindred's in Davidson. It did not disappoint. I did also order the original glazed doughnut and it was good, spongy but lots of flavor. I anticipate this restaurant will be around for years and be a staple in the Plaza Midwood community. This was my first visit to Milkbread... a place I have been wanting to try for quite some time! The first thing I noticed was five minute parking ... so I am thinking must have fast service... not the case but no worries my hubs is in the drivers seat if needed to move the care. It is a beautiful day in Charlotte and there was horrible glare on the lighted menu board that I had to struggle to see. After struggling the young lady handed me a laminated menu. In my visit I placed an order for an original chicken sandwich, a hot dip chicken sandwich, fries and beignets... I originally asked for Mac n cheese but I was advised that it was not baked and more an Alfredo... thank you from saving me from that. The beignets the were out of at 3:30 in the afternoon?!?! Maybe they serve them as a breakfast option but the definitely didn't have them available for my late lunch! So after I was warned about the Mac n cheese I opted for the fries. On the paper menu it clearly said $4 but was wrong up at $5, no I know it is only a dollar, but it is my dollar... the cashier ringing me up didn't even know there was a price difference from the menu to the register and when she asked the other girl was like oh yeah we need to change that... yes and you need to change my bill... she refused... usually I would cancel my order on principle alone but I did want to try it... so.... They won! Now ... to the actual food. Fries served hot, lacked salt and or seasoning thank goodness I grabbed plenty of ketchup! Hot dipped was just that hot, no flavor just heat... slaw was too wet, causing the bread to be soggy. The chicken itself was good and maintained the crispiness in spite of being dipped.. Old G chicken sandwich was as good as it got. Solid chicken sandwich. And for dessert, the beignets...oops I forget they were out of those. Glad I got a chance to try this place out after going to Kindred for the first time. Try Kindred or the other Milkbread in the Davidson area when you get a chance. This place replaced the old old old Dairy Queen that used to be there. Rest in peace. But I do like what they have done with the place. FYI parking is tight. Like maybe 7-8 cars or so can fit in their lot. You might as well try to find parking across the street (not the CVS tho if you want your car towed. Lol) Nothing but outdoor seating just so you are aware. Ordering is simple: at the window and wait for your name to be called. It's called through a speaker system so no need to listen for a person to yell for your name. Now for food & drinks: our drinks came relatively fast. I ordered a cappuccino and chai tea latte. The cappuccino was good; ordered with whole milk and the flavor was relatively a strong coffee flavor. Medium-dark roast from what it tasted like. The chai tea latte was about average. Came out really hot; best for a cold/cool day. Ordered the original chicken sandwich; solid, but for $9? Too much for my taste. I think the breading was fried a little too long so it felt like I was chewing on rocks but the actually chicken was quite nice with good overall flavor. The cinny roll was quite nice as well. Asked for it to be heated up and came with a side of butter to go with it. Overall, it was a good experience with its ups and downs. The menu includes salads, grain bowls, fried and grilled chicken sandwiches, chicken nuggets and tenders, Mac and cheese, fries, roasted cauliflower, wine and beer, toasts and biscuits, donuts, cinnamon rolls, ice cream, a ton of coffee, soda, tea, and lemonade. I have visited the Central location twice and both times have been really good. Between both visits, we tried the original, the hot dip, the little G, the grilled chicken sandwich, tenders, French fries, grandfather's pickles, and chocolate glazed donuts. I'm not a fan of the pickles - a little too sweet for me. And I didn't like the spicy Mayo on the grilled sandwich, but I'm not sure exactly why. The hot dip was a hit and the crinkle cut fries served hot and fresh with lots of coarse salt are super good! And the donuts - YES. YEEESSSSSS. I did feel like the chocolate glaze gave it sweetness overload, but the donut itself is actual perfection. EDIT to include breakfast items: super underwhelming. we got an avocado toast, a chicken biscuit, and two coffees. The avocado toast came out super burnt, like really burnt. We asked for another and it came out the same way. The cut of chicken on the biscuit was pretty good, but the biscuit just completely deteriorated into a dry, crumbly mess. The coffee was very average. I know of at least two other places within walking distance for better coffee. It's a small location that will likely stay busy but it's super cute and the staff have all been SO nice and accommodating. It is very expensive, especially if you're getting a drink and sides. I have been waiting until things calmed down just a bit before trying. Let me say, they have the best glazed doughnuts and chicken sandwiches! My first visit I ordered the little g, the smaller version of the regular chicken sandwich. This was truly mouthwatering! Also perfect in size. I really wanted a small lunch and this was it. Everything was perfect about this chicken sandwich. Especially the pickle! I also had to try something sweet and opted for the original glazed doughnut. I can be a little bit of a doughnut snob but there was nothing snobby about this glazed doughnut. I was truly surprised at how amazing and melt in your mouth this doughnut was! I went back again two weeks later and ordered another glazed doughnut and regular sized chicken sand! They have many other options though. Have had a few trips to Milkbread and would usually stick around 3 stars. This last trip, had to take it down to 1. We got a few items but the biggest let down was the cinnamon roll. I believe it's 8 dollars and i was shocked at the size. I have included a picture for reference. The roll was the same size as the cream cheese topping container. It also tasted like it had been sitting around for a couple days. I am partly to blame. I should have looked at the order before I left and said something. Not sure why it took so long if they weren't planning to freshly fry the chicken. It had clearly been sitting there for awhile. The seasoning was decent so there's potential for it to be good if it was served hot and crispy like fried chicken is supposed to be served. We went on a Monday when it wasn't busy at all so not sure what happened. We also ordered two lattes ($5 each) that were lukewarm. The donut was good but not worth $3. First time I went here it was in the evening for a dinner bite. It was great. We had the chicken sandwiches. Very nice. We liked it so much we decided the next time we were traveling through Charlotte (we are from out of state) we would stop there. This next time was for breakfast. It was about 8:00 am. I am SHOCKED to see such a low, average review! I live in PM and frequent Milkbread regularly. Their drinks are solid. Their donuts, cinnamon rolls, and beignets are great. I will say that I am vegetarian and really have only tried the crunchy rice bowl with the jammy egg and the fried cauliflower (both of which are phenomenal). i've had 4 kinds of donuts for both of the times i've had milkbread, so i can only speak for the sweets! replacing the old dairy queen, their small & cute location provides outdoor seating only. their donuts are quite dense and packed with sweetness. the first one i had was their seasonal cranberry orange sour cream donut (dec 2022) and i could barely finish it! i appreciated the tangy flavor since i was curious how it would taste. because it was pretty dense & sweet, i ended up saving half of it for the next day. i decided to heat it up for a few seconds in the microwave - having it warmed up definitely made it so much better! when i first visited in december 2022, i was pretty grateful for their overhead heaters as my friend and i waited for our order. when i got to order some assorted original, chocolate & new seasonal flavor for set one day, i couldn't wait to try out the og's on the menu. the chocolate was by far my favorite out of the 3. while i enjoyed their donuts, the only reason i'd go back is to try a seasonal donut. i definitely appreciate their uniqueness of flavors! read more

Loved the iced latte and the chocolate donut, best donut I have had in Charlotte by far. The iced latte was really good and it's my favorite coffee drink. The ice in the latte is the key ingredient sooo good. Drinks and donuts came out quick. Almost instantly. Had to wait maybe 15-20 minutes for my Lil G (their classic chicken sandwich but just a mini version which I LOVE!!!) but it was super busy. The fact they had a small little snack size sandwich was my absolute favorite thing, I love when establishments offer this as an option. I loved it very tasty. Great place for an easy going bite in the morning. We were told to come here by a local business owner, who told us the history behind what the location used to be. (I believe he said a walk up Dairy Queen). The menu is short and sweet and to the point, has a great variety for breakfast/brunch/lunch/light supper. We met frequent flyer customer (also a friend to he chef) in line, they gave some suggestions about the mushroom toast, and the hot dip sandwich. We also chose to order the chicken and biscuit, which the awesome employee behind the counter suggested making it "hot" and adding pimento cheese. WIN! Great v biscuit too! We finished it up with an order of beignets, which were not too shabby! We are from New Orleans, they were not what we are used to, but they hit the spot when wanting something sweet! Really not one negative thing to say, I guess if it were raining it would make it not as great of an experience... but it was a gorgeous cool day, and we most definitely did not regret our decision to visit here. Today would have been my first patronage of Milkbread. I drove by a few weeks ago and vowed to go because it looked interesting. At 11am on Sunday morning all the vacant tables were very dirty. I asked someone to come clean the table my guest an I wanted to sit at. The staff came out quickly to not only clean our table but one of the others close by that was dirty also. Once we decided what we wanted to eat we got in line. The line moved very quickly. When we told the cashier that we wanted a sausage biscuit. She stated they were out of biscuits. Then we chose a croissant sandwich and was told they were out of croissants also. We asked what biscuit or croissant sandwiches did they have. She said none. So at 11 am on a Sunday morning they were completely out of all biscuit and croissant meals. Wow! So my party and I made another selection. I ordered the kale Caesar salad and asked to add avocado, grilled chicken nuggets and red onion. She then proceeded to tell me that they COULD NOT add red onion to my salad. I then asked if she could charge me for it and put it on the side. She said no, they could not do that. Not because they didn't have it, because it was available on other salads but COULD NOT add it to my salad. At that point I told her to cancel my order. What a disappointment! The parking area is not the easiest to get to from Main Street. I ordered the green goddess Cobb salad. It was very salty. There was alot of dressing, which can be good or bad. I personally wasn't a fan. I feel the order took too long. My friend purchased a grain bowl with chicken. It was lackluster and very salty. The parking is limited, but there is parking around, especially if you are popping in to catch up with friends over coffee and a pastry. The area surrounding the establishment is clean and free of litter along with the establishment itself. The patio is the only place to sit, but it has umbrellas and heaters. The menu is simple, well explained, and has a variety of things for all diets. This was my first visit here, so I got a latte made with oat milk, a milkbread cinny roll and a BFC (big freaking cookie). It wasn't super busy but definitely steady for a 4-5pm on a Friday. The cinny roll is a little smaller than expected for the price, but it is very worth it as a great treat. I had it warmed and paired it with my latte and it was so delicious and a perfect treat your self for a Friday afternoon. The counter service was prompt and helpful. The pickup window has a speaker in case it got too loud, so you can definitely hear your order being called. I can finally write my review now that we've been here twice. I must say, my partner and I have been excited for this to open right in our backyard. It is such a cute atmosphere and the perfect walking location for anyone in Plaza. We went a few weekends ago and it was crazy. Not only did our food take a long time, but it was messed up. We had their Original Chicken Sandwich which was sub-par at most. Very small and expensive for what it was. The cob salad (don't remember the menu name) was average as well. Was missing ingredients. Didn't like the cubed ham on it- made it taste like a grab and go salad you buy at a gas station or something. The dressing lacked flavor. The buttermilk chicken tenders were PHENOMENAL- crispy, juicy, and delicious! We had them at both visits and they were consistently delicious. $9 for 6...I guess you pay a premium for "homemade" tenders. French fried are extra- $4 for a small side. Nothing special. And deff from frozen. Coffee was good. Although for some reason, the coffee took the longest to make- we waiting over 30 minutes. Price on the coffee was actually less than Starbucks and they don't charge extra for milk substitutes. Overall we have enjoyed our experience at Milkbread thus far. I would give them 3.5 stars if I could but bumped them to 4. Has lots of potential, but has lots of room for improvement. We will be back! read more

Milkbread did not disappoint. I got the classic chicken sandwich and my fiancé got the spicy one. He couldn't say enough good things about the sauce, specifically. It wasn't overwhelmingly spicy, but instead very flavorful and dimensional. We also loved the French fries- they were crinkle cut and the perfect balance of salty and crunchy. This might sound crazy, but my favorite part was the soft serve icecream. I love orange/vanilla flavors together, and was excited to see they were offering that.
