I'm allergic to eggs so fining a good brunch is hard. Traveling out of town to Charlotte, I found Oh My Soul on yelp. It is a vegan South African restaurant and just my luck, they had breakfast that day. I chose the Big Bro which was a giant plate with different goodies around it. Baked beans for breakfast? Why not! Vegan sausage that tastes better than regular sausage... yea that was gone first. Next time I'll ask for double the "feggs" but I had so much left over I used the rest of the mixture and more "feggs" and had another full breakfast. The owners were extremely nice and generous. Also get the peri-peri sauce if you're a spicy sauce lover!

This place is a little on the small side but it really filled up quickly. My daughter enjoyed the cauliflower bites. The dining room was filled with families with older kids and little ones. Really enjoyed the atmosphere.

As someone who's usually hesitant about vegan food, Oh My Soul completely changed my mind. This place has the best vegan food I've ever had. Everything I've tried has been SO full of flavor and delicious. My go to is "The Gatsby" - their signature dish and it never disappoints. The staff is always friendly, and the service is pretty quick. The South African-inspired menu is so unique, and the whole vibe here is amazing. The patio is adorable and they always have some type of live music. I always bring anyone visiting me in Charlotte here, and it never disappoints!

It's been a while since I checked out Oh My Soul, so this was a really nice return. I met up with my coworker for a lunch meeting and we had a good time! We got there right when they opened on a weekday so we were literally the only customers there. It was hot so we sat inside and enjoyed. I love a place where you order first then they bring the food out. It just such an easier, seamless dining experience. I believe it's better for guests and staff. I ordered the mother bowl, I believe is the name. It was so light and delicious!!! I had enough to take home and finished it later that day. It's a good portion size. I also tried a Lenny Boy kombucha and LOVED it. They can do no wrong though lol. I also got the lava cake dessert and that was pretty good too. I wasn't able to eat it all, but it was tasty.

Pleasantly surprised by this place! This is a vegan restaurant, and truthfully, that's not much of a pull for me. I eat most things, so I generally don't go out of my way to avoid anything. We stopped in after wandering around a pottery sale next door. I had a coffee and tasted my friends meals, and everything was delicious! Doesn't taste like you're just eating grass (my main concern, so silly!) and much of it is made to taste like regular dishes. Coffee was also great, and they have a full bar! The house is older, and there is some seating in the back. Additionally, there's outdoor space, and a little area for a band to set up. It was a nice day, and so most people were out back. Dog friendly, some kids running around. This place is nothing fancy and very welcoming. Staff were very friendly, with very nice accents as well. Parking is a bit of a challenge, though you're just a nice walk away from the light rail. I'd definitely stop back in!

Place is run by a group of folks from South Africa and they were the nicest people to chat with. Went there and got the cauliflower "wings" and their spring rolls. Absolutly delicious. We also got some mixed drinks which were all fantastic. They have a great outdoor space and a stage for live music- we didn't get to experience the music but apparently it's quite the event. We'll be back in the summer.

Food is delicious and it doesn't even taste vegan. I love spicy foods and this place had a good variety of spicy and non spicy foods. We had a table of 6. Order at counter and go sit outside. Outside seating was perfect for the warm summer night. Bring food to the table. Outside bar. Mixed drinks starting at $15. If your kids aren't vegetarian/vegan, they may not like this spot and it's too pricy ($20/meal) to have kids wasting this good food. Great date night. They brought out a slice of cake for the birthday girl. My only complaint is that onions rings were too crispy.

OMG - vegan food paradise! What a wonderful place for breakfast, lunch or dinner! We had dinner here, delicious food, and came back for breakfast which didn't disappoint. Soooo delicious!! The owners are very friendly, they are from South Africa and brought vegan South African dishes and flavors to Charlotte. You order at the counter from a menu that offers quite some options. The food and drinks are then served to your table. We didn't sit outside as it was too cold but there is a large patio. Inside it's cozy and decorated with a lot of interesting information on animals and how humans interact with them.

My favorite vegan restaurant in charlotte! I've literally had the entire menu. Anything w the house made sausage go for it or sub it to whatever you order. Very large portions and bar none service, I have genuine love for this establishment from the owners Rich & T down to the employees all around great place. Indoor and outdoor seating. Must try vegan or not!!

The backyard at this spot is fab for hanging out. The food is good but note the portions are massive. Consider sharing or to go boxes. They seem busy so keep that in mind for the amount of time you allot for ordering and waiting here.

    Mother Earth Bowl - GF
    Carol R.

The Mother Earth bowl was filled with so much goodness that I couldn't finish it all! Every single veggie in that bowl was seasoned to perfection. I mean they even made cauliflower taste good! Deducting one star because my bowl came with falafel instead of tofu. Not sure if that was a substitution or if the description on Grubhub should be updated, but I would have preferred it without either at a lesser price point.

My friend took me straight to Oh my soul after picking me up from the airport because she loved it so much! I think to take advantage of the flavors this restaurant has to offer, you have to know what to order. I thought my dish with the chicken burger tasted like something I make at home when I eat those frozen Chik'n patties. However my friend got the Great Gatsby which had a unique AMAZING ethnic flavor. It was quite spicy with jalapeño pieces in it so would let them know if that's an issue. The soursop juice was unique and pretty good as well! I thought the sweet potato fries were overcooked and probably should have listened to the waitress who told me to get the famous tots. The ambience is 10/10 and love that this vegan place has so many options and alternatives!

Ask the Community - Oh My Soul

What kind of oil is used in the fryer?

Is the seating area wheelchair accessible?

Not the back area. It's deep loose gravel. The front porch is, however.

Is their any inside dining option? If outside only is there any portable heating provided?

There is only outside sitting available in a huge tent but they have heating lamps all over it so it's pretty warm

Are dogs allowed on the outside patio?

well behaved doggies are generally preferred over children ;-)

Do they require or take reservations? If not, are there long wait times for dinner on the weekends?

I know they don't require reservations but I'm not sure whether they even take them. I've eaten at OMS about 15 times over the past few months. Love it but never thought to make reservations.

Does anyone know if the burgers and other proteins options are soy free?

Yes! They have black bean and seitan based patties(protein), not just soy based.

I tried it but it was just ok. Highly recommend giving out bigger straws b/c it was a headache sucking that shake through lol. I also would recommend using coconut milk instead of oat milk. It just has an aftertaste whereas coconut not so much. The best thing and the shocker for me and my non vegan friend, was the Carolina Hot dog. It left me screaming and then speechless. My friend even did a happy dance lol. We are contemplating taking another drive tonight before they close b/c I shared it with her as she was too nervous to get it, we want more lol. We both love hotdogs and I can't say that I've ever had a really good vegan one. This was it!!! And honestly can't tell it was vegan from the texture, to the chili, the special sauces, ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! And the Philly cheesesteak came a very close second runner up. The bread stood up to the sauces. And they are saucey but I don't mind it at all. Sautéed peppers, onions, the protein...this was just good clean food and not too much processed. As a vegan chef (Mama Nicca's Homemade Things) and someone who loves to be creative in this vegan world of cooking, this truly was OUTSTANDING. I will probably return every time I'm in Charlotte. I looked at the menu previously and knew i wanted to try the ribs. I also ordered the mac and cheese and black eyed peas as sides. The meal comes with rice and their vegetable of the day which happened to be collard greens that day. To finish the meal I ordered the housemade hibiscus tea. It took about 10-15 minutes or so for everything to be ready and it was brought out by one of the lovely owners (forgot to grab her name). She was so sweet and came back out to check on me mid meal. Everything was so good. I haven't had ribs in over a decade so that was such a nostalgic taste to me. It had the chargrill taste and everything and that sauce was so good! The "rib" meat had a great taste as well and I enjoyed the meaty texture. The fixins were all really good. The macaroni was nice and seasoned so were black eyed peas, collard greens, and rice. Truly tasted like a plate from an auntie's house. I'm already plotting my next trip to Charlotte so I can make my way back over here. They recently received a Michelin recommendation and it's totally deserved. It's a buffet, but most of the hot food is actually served by a person which is something that I particularly appreciate. (I really don't like touching the handles of spoons that hundreds of people have touched.) Some of the stuff is self serve but not any of the hot dishes. Absolutely everything I tried was outstanding. Like everything. There are a few things that they consider "pass around" which means that they are brought over to you by a server at random intervals. For everything else, you just help yourself. I went with a friend of mine who has a deep appreciation for a southern food. He was absolutely amazed. We managed to grab a larger enough table and everyone circled until we made our individual choices and then returned to our central meeting spot to break bread and indulge in all of our finds. We enjoyed several of the eateries we experienced and I was particularly intrigued by the plant store (albeit kinda pricey). Return is a no brainer especially for the places that were most memorable. Just A Note: Parking is not free, payment is required. Please not depending on the time of day it can be crowded so securing a spot will require patience.

I had seen multiple social media ads about Romeo's Vegan Burgers so last night, Saturday around dusk and on my way home, I decided to stop in. There were about 3 diners inside and the only visible attendant was serving a drive-thru customer. The attendant didn't acknowledge me standing at the counter with any distinct greeting. Not expecting any immediate service, I stepped away to go wash my hands at the restroom. Restroom cleanliness sometimes is an indicator and I'd give this one a C minus. Dirty toilet, lukewarm faucet water, odor. Perhaps this made me wary however I decided to try the food. The attendant was unoccupied when I returned to the counter and did apologize for me having to wait earlier at my arrival. I ordered a simple black bean burger, tater tops and a lemonade. I noticed on the menu board that there was an additional fee to "upgrade" to an "all plant patty" that just seems odd at a vegan restaurant. The meal took about 15 minutes or so to prepare. Honestly, at the end of this meal there wasn't a stand-out moment for a vegan burger meal at the price of $21.00. I've prepared the same meal at my home for less. The lemonade is basic and perhaps processed, noticeably not "fresh". I read the other reviews before submitting mine. I suppose time of day, staff on hand and other factors influence the experience. My visit fell short of satisfying my expectations. Best of luck to this restaurateur and happy holidays.
