My uncle had a graduation party for my cousin and he ordered a grad cake from the Milford baking. The decorations looked on point and looked really good. The frosting looked ever so sugary and sweet and it was too, couldn't handle more than a small taste of it. The cake itself looked spongey enough that I thought it was angel food cake, but it was not, it was just the usual white cake. It wasn't bad tasting and was very fluffy. I can only speak for the cookies I bought, which were sugar cookies,chocolate chip and peanut butter chocolate chip. Really was disappointed, peanut butterDID NOT taste like peanut butter, was surprisingly flavorless... Tasted the choco chips but not peanut butter, the chocolate chip cookies tasted boarder-line like there sugar cookies with chips. So for the cookies I really wouldn't bother make your own or just get cheaper Pepperidge farm. No variety... Over priced, Undersized .... Inedible Gross Food now focused on expensive 'trophy cakes' for the affluent. $2.50 "lemon" bars. Lemon bars is an easy standard to judge... if you can't make a lemon bar, then hang it up. So what I got was revolting what I can only describe as a stale yellow gummy worm filling with no flavor (see picture).. that string just hung there like a rubber band.... So TINY portions, Overpriced, GROSS Inedible food. OUtside of custom cakes, their product choice is incredibly limited now. It does not resemble any type of Bakery you would expect. Their donuts and muffins are small and overpriced. At any given time, the selection of baked goods is very small. Service at Milford Bakery is slow. With a focus on intricate specialty cakes, the wait times have increased considerably. While the staff remains friendly, the slow service can be off-putting for many. Another downside is their cash-only policy for purchases under $10. As a bakery that once catered to all, it's disheartening to see it fall so short. There are a ton of better places if you just want baked goods besides specialty cakes. Kroger, Proving Grounds Coffee etc. Or just go up to Colasanti's Market and which has an amazing bakery with much more variety. read more

So disappointed! Was hoping to find a new go-to bakery now that we are new to the area but this will not be it. Ordered a variety of sweets on a Friday morning while in town for some sweets. 5 small items was $15. The pecan roll was the only thing my husband said was even good with little flavor. The piece of vanilla cake was dry and more like angel food. The frosting was not sugary, which is actually our preference, but was tasteless. I splurged to get the "fresh" snowman sugar cookies rather than purchase a day old cookies. When I got home, they were so hard and crunchy. Not the cookies we were expecting. It's hard to find a good bakery, but will continue to visit Maria's in Novi which is by far the freshest and reasonably priced bakery. read more

I really really love the cookies and cupcakes here. I grew up in Milford and would go here all the time. Now I'll make the trek up from Canton just to get the cookies once in a while. I would say they have the best frosting I've ever had in my life! That being said... Be aware that they have limited hours. They are not open Sundays. Also on 4th of July I specifically called to see how late they were open. The girl on the phone said 1pm. It was 15 minutes until noon so I hurried there, got there at 12:30 and they were closed!!! If I could rate my experience differently, I would rate it a zero. I had a huge order, left them with simple color swatches & sent picture examples & more specifics in an email. If there was any confusion, or even any doubt that my specific color choices could not be achieved, I should have been notified immediately as I allowed plenty of time prior to my event to make adjustments. The large cupcake was handed over to my friend, who was gracious enough to pick it up for me, in a wide short-sided box and as a result tipped over in transport. It wasn't horrible, we could have fixed it. However, the color was a rich purple instead of a softer steel blue. I called the bakery to see what could be done as the 75 mini cupcakes were done in the wrong color too. When speaking to to staff, I got the run around and the blame. First it was the designer didn't have enough time to play with the color. Then the excuse was we (me) picked it up too late and the color gets darker as time goes on. We were not late in picking up our order and I placed my order nearly two weeks in advance. I originally set the time for 3:00 then moved it up to 12:00 pm, 3 days before that incase we ran into issues.....as it turned out, we DID have issues. We returned to the bakery to have them fix the color. On the way there the cupcakes tipped again, now my sister as the driver. This time the huge cupcake's frosting was really a mess. The owner knew we were coming and did not deal with us once we arrived. She went to the backroom. She had a young lady attempt to help us. She however basically said we "destroyed" the cupcake, in her words, and "There's was no way it could tip over". I also showed them the original color swatches that I had left with them to see the difference in colors. She even had the nerve to ask me if I understood the difference in frosting between the cookies & cupcakes. Um, really? I'm an owner of a small business and would never have one of my team members knowingly deal with an unhappy customer when I am present. The owner did not make herself known until she dropped off the cake to the party venue. Even then, I had to ask if she was the owner having seen her back at the bakery earlier. Her husband drove her. When I asked how did they accomplish the task without it tipping over again. Her response was, "Well, you have to drive like you have a cake in the car"! Really? I guess it was her way of saying both my friend and my sister are terrible drivers. Here's a Newsflash, it tipped over when my husband drove it home after the party. She insisted it couldn't tip over, with dowels inserted in the bottom half of the cake. I cut the cake open... it doesn't take a genius or an engineer to figure out the dowels should not have been inserted so closely together but rather equal distance apart so as to balance the top heavy structure of the cake. Too, the dowels were not inserted at the same length leaving 2 shorter, two longer. There was no balance and therefore it tipped easily. So here's a thought, treat customers like we're are not idiots and I, for one, speak the truth! I didn't get mean or nasty or make a snarky retort when the owner said "You have to drive like there's a cake in the car". I say, Own your mistakes, make it right, learn from it and move on. I never once heard a sorry, we could have done this better, gotten the color right, made the goods easier to transport or even a discount. I only heard what we did wrong! The owner should have dealt with us from the start!!! It was clear she didn't even want to discuss it with me when she delivered the corrected goods to us later. By the way, my friend who originally picked up the goods didn't realize the colors were wrong. She would have notified me instantly. She did however say after the whole fiasco went down that she was glad she held back the fact that there was a hair on the cake that her son had to picked off. She even suggested I stop payment on the card charged. I could never do that but it sure was a good option. My sister drove all the way from Indiana with baked goods that were packaged correctly and did not suffer the same fate as the goods from this local bakery. How about coming up with better processes rather than better excuses! Big fail by the owner, on this one. The venue knows of our experience, about 50 of my customers (all women, btw) know about it already. We all are aware how influential customer feedback can impact future business! read more

As this is a little trendy town, that's where the bakery needs to step up the quality. The sugar cookies were cute shapes--turtles, horses, baseballs--but they were so thin & no flavor to them whatsoever. We didn't try the cupcakes but as another review stated, you can tell real frosting from fake--this was definitely fake. The reason we skipped them. We had some of the butter cookies & they were okay, not great. Just again, a lack of flavor. They had an assortment of bagels-we had two. Okay, but not great. Bad quality ingredients will never lead to high quality baked goods. I tried the crumbed apple fritter and my wife had a cookie shaped like a cupcake. The frosting was terrible...I couldn't identify a natural ingredient in it -- fake vanilla, fake sugar, fake butter...yuck. My wife didn't take more than a few bites. My apple fritter didn't have apple in it, and tasted stale. Some of their cookies were well decorated, and their prices were good. But I just couldn't imagine coming back here. read more

Ordered a cake the had the wrong flavors. Decorated wrong and that had to refrost it because it looked like a third grade class did it. After they reforst it which I did look better but nothing what I wanted. Anyway the owner didn't care that the cake was the wrong flavors. Very disappointed . I drove from Howell to Milford to pick up a birthday cake for my moms 75th birthday. I was looking for a good, high quality cake that you cant buy at a grocery store. I did not mind paying $25 for the 8 inch round cake because I thought it would be worth it. Wrong. Honestly a cake from the grocery store, or costco would have been better. We have not even cut into the cake, so I have no idea what the "cake" tastes like. The frosting is so sickning sweet, and has the flavor of grease cooked doughnuts. Whether or not the Baking Co. will "wow" you is going to depend entirely on what you're looking for. If it's unpretentious "normal" bakery fare, you're in luck. Cookies, donuts, bread, all there in reasonable quantity and variety, and (at least, in my experience) same-day fresh. This isn't Pink Lady Cupcakery, where you're going to find acai and kale cupcakes with maple-bacon frosting. It's a bakery, where there are normal-person cupcakes. Chocolate, or not-chocolate? There are a couple of areas where the really shine, though. Pasty day being at the top of my list. It happens but once a week, and I'd advise you to get there before lunchtime, if you want to have your pick of turkey or beef. They sell out quick, and for good reason... they're probably the best I've had south of Cadillac. Not to mention, they're cheap! For nearly a decade now, I've tried to get paczki from the Baking Co., and have never been successful. They sell out that fast. Maybe next year, I'll finally wise up and pre-order. Finally, the staff is always extremely friendly and accommodating. The place totally blends with the Mayberry feel downtown Milford sometimes elicits. Ordered 3 doz VW. Bug cars for my granddaughters 16th birthday party .. I sent a picture of what I was looking for . Cute shaped vw bug cars .. I knew those were fondant ones but they said they could do them in cake icing and buttercream .. they assured me they had the cookie cutter for it . They were to be shaped cream cars with white buttercream windows and white daisy hubcaps . I spent 100 dollars on these . The shapes were blobs that obviously did not work so they drew the car on . Badly sprayed black on for tires on and a yellow spray oddly on them then did yellow Daisy's without checking with me , I wanted white .. since i picked up the day of my event I was kinda stuck . I have been going here since I was a child .. it was an embarrassment taking them to the party .. i emailed them .. though .. no response until I emailed again saying I was waiting on their response before leaving a review .. I basically got .. sorry can't fix it now hope you come back.. I will NOT be back .since the original owner has past .. the new owner has no regard for customer satisfaction. I think they feel since they have been in Milford so long they can rest on their past reputation .. one by one folks will see they need to find a new bakery .. as am I . I am absolutely wowed by the customer service and kindness of the employees. My family has came here for the past three graduation cakes that we have ordered and never once have been disappointed. This particular year a picture on the cake was a little out of sorts and Milford bakery was extremely apologetic offered us a discount on the cake and offered to fix the cake. When I arrived with th cake they were very apologetic and more than happy to make sure the cake was perfect knowing that today was a special day! The cake is always good and my kids enjoy the cookies. But, was recently disappointed when my (not very cheap) cake had cake crumbs showing through the icing. It was the first thing I noticed and was surprised that the decorator didn't catch it and FIX IT. Even debated giving 3 stars but this wasn't a typical issue, for me anyway. I have been going to this bakery for over 30 years and it is not the same. I have been told there has been a change in family members handling the bakery and you can see the difference. For example, NO MUFFINS on a Saturday morning. It is disappointing on the limited choices they have on the goodies. However, the coffee is good, good, good.
