Rack of ribs
Andrea U.

This is a Canadian chain restaurant that started in Vancouver in 1989. The Stevens Avenue restaurant is connected to our Marriott hotel. The outdoor tables are on the Avenue & are great for people watching. The menu looked appealing & the Yelp reviews were promising. There were no shady seats outside so we opted for a table by a window indoors. We were seated at a high top near the bar. There were no specials and no happy hour because of the stampede. It was very warm inside. We started with cold Molson's. For dinner we shared a large & delicious wedge salad and a whole rack of baby back ribs with fries. Our ribs, fries & slaw came out on two plates. The ribs were falling off the bone, they were lean and very tasty. Cordell, our waiter was on point, he checked on us several times. Our casual dinner was abundant & reasonably priced.

So I won't give less stars for this but the lettuce wraps didn't make sense. They were basically boneless wings, in my opinion, and were hard to eat with the lettuce. Not sure if it's an American thing but usually the chicken is in smaller pieces and then put in the lettuce. The reason I still give 5 stars is because the chicken was SOOO good and crunch. Salad was great as well. Other people at my table said they could've ate here every night. Which is impressive for a place that is supposedly a chain. Very nice place with fires to eat outside.

Black & Blue Burger with Truffle Parmesan fries

Ordered a simple black and blue burger with Truffle Parmesan fries and it was just ok. I expected more flavor and it was just bland. Service was good and kept my water refilled by dropping off a carafe of water.

Came here since it was next to the Marriott. We were looking for a quick bite and drinks. It was close to their 9pm Happy hour so we came at the right time. We had the place to ourselves on a Tuesday night. We order the Tempura Cauliflower, the wings, and the nachos. They were all not bad. The drinks during Happy hour were pretty good. We will definitely be back fo more next time we are town. The

Coconut Calamari

Bottom line: delicious food, service okay. I had the coconut calamari which was crispy and not chewy. Also, the chimichurri sea bass, which wasn't exactly what I expected but no less flavorful. Lastly, for dessert the Belgian chocolate torte, which was heavenly; smooth, sweet and sinful goodness in every bite. The service was okay, the restaurant wasn't busy or full and yet it seemed like it took the server forever to get back to me or follow up for a water refill. Granted it was late, 2 hrs before closing so perhaps that's the reason. Still mediocre service would not deter me from coming back, perhaps it will get a little better. Ultimately, it's about the food and it was delicious.

This is one of my favorite places to come for weekend brunch. Great staff, amazing food, ambiance is perfect. Highly recommend :)

Food was just alright.....but the service was good. We did have to sit on an outdoor couch and it was a bit hard to eat because of the fireplace in the middle and the seat being very awkward....

Fish Tacos, Side Caesar Salad

I'd give a 3.5 rating if possible. This is a good location -- very close to plenty of bars and theatres if you're wanting to be out and about after dinner, and the view of Stephen Ave. is lovely. The food is of expected quality and the happy hour menu is decent (our party especially appreciated the $6 Stella Artois). Service once seated was middle-of-the-road, though I have to commend the hostess for a very welcoming and positive attitude to start out the experience. My order of fish tacos had an even split of delicious and disappointing elements. I LOVED the fish itself; perfect fall-apart-in-your-mouth texture and breading with the right amount of crisp and softness equally. The toppings were lacking in flavour other than spiciness. The avocado crema was the next best thing on the plate but only present for a bite or two of each taco. For sides, I'd have liked more options -- the only salad choice was Caesar, which was good but not my preferred pick of greens in general. The portion was great, especially being on the discounted happy hour menu. Unfortunately we came on a cold day and happened to be seated right by the window, which would've been appreciated in the summer (with the aforementioned beautiful view of the neighbourhood) but ended up being uncomfortably chilly. I'd return for the food if I were in the area again but either try out a different choice entirely or modify the taco toppings more to my own liking.

Vintage Chophouse and Tavern - French onion soup - split in 2. Excellent

We started with the appetizers, the beef carpaccio and Caesar salad, both were excellent and really set a good tone for the evening. The carpaccio was well-seasoned and fresh, and the salad had a nice balance of creamy and crisp. For our main, we went with the Canada Prime bone-in porterhouse, which came with two sides. The jalapeño creamed corn tasted more like jalapeño grits than corn, which threw me off a bit, it wasn't really my thing. The twice-cooked fingerlings with bacon, chives, and sour cream, on the other hand, were delicious, crispy, flavorful, and well-balanced. Unfortunately, the steak itself missed the mark for me. It arrived lukewarm, not hot like you'd expect from a high-end steakhouse, which was disappointing. For a cut that's supposed to be the star of the show, the temperature really detracted from the experience. To finish off, we kept it light with two scoops of gelato, one cherry vanilla and the other a lemon sorbet. Both were refreshing and hit the spot for a light, sweet ending. Service was definitely a strong point, our server was friendly, attentive, and professional throughout the night. Overall, it was a mixed experience: great apps, strong service, but the main event which was the steak it just didn't deliver like I'd hoped. I'd give it another try, but probably order something different next time.

I am not a huge fan of steaks, so I got a few sides. The scallops were cooked to perfection. They melted in my mouth and I would easily order this again. The truffle fries and broccolini were both really good. They would make a great side with a steak. The lobster mac and cheese was my least favourite, it wasn't bad more like average, not a lot of lobster pieces.

The "baked" potato was microwaved vs actually baked And it was so cool that the butter I put on it didn't melt. Ordered a side of garlic prawns and got 3 small unflavored shrimp instead that were maybe an inch long if you stretched it out. my sons fries were undercooked (some weren't even golden, they were still potato white) And said some of them were kinda crunchy/stiff. I had the owners cut of prime rib and it was smaller than the last two times I had been to smugglers where I ordered a smaller cut (first mate) And it was cold, even the au jus was barely warm. Also probably the smallest Yorkshire pudding I've ever had there. Maybe 1/3 the size you use to get. We ordered desert and it took newly 30 mins for it to be brought out - my son's "warm" apple krisp was cold he said. i have been smugglers at least A dozen times in the last 3 years and more so in the last decade and this was by far the worst experience I have ever had. In both service and quality. As it stands I would not recommend - where as before I always raved about the smugglers inn. For a $400+ bill for myself and my 3 kids, I def expected way better quality, actual warm food and not have to wait a combined time of over an hour for service. It was also my son's birthday, and he found the experience very disappointing and said he never wants to go back. When we booked we said it was a birthday, we mentioned it was his birthday and the server didnt even say happy birthday to him. Oh and it wasn't even that busy when we got there... there was maybe 10 costumers when we arrived. I might try it again due to past visits being great. But another experience like tonight and I'll probably take my prime rib expeditions else where. I doubt my kids will ever go back as the complained how horrible it was the entire drive home. I usually don't give a lot of reviews but it was such a sub-par experience I had to report it.

Parking was pretty full but we managed to snag a spot. The place was busy but not too loud. While the server did ask us if we were celebrating anything, there wasn't really anything done that made out time there special. We started with the Marrow and Escargot and shared a 12oz Prime Rib with lobster tail and Creme Brulee for dessert. The food was okay, not sure if it was worth the price of admission. Server was fine, but not memorable. We were disappointed in the experience as this used to be our go to (bi-monthly) dinner place before the ownership change.

The duck & waffles was a confit duck leg, vanilla liege waffles, foie gras gravy with a bistro salad that had a yuzu vanilla vinaigrette. Duck was delicious. I liked the salad, but honestly felt that the vanilla in the vinaigrette would be best removed. However, that's my personal opinion. The waffles were... ok. It was like eating cake and bits of sugar. I mentioned to the server that the waffles had chunks of sugar in them, but she said that they were sugar coated. To be honest, I'm not convinced. there was chunks of white sugar, not a glaze...In the waffle itself. And the batter was very heavy, thick and cake like. Not the best waffles. French toast was great, very filling and delicious. It has a foie gras caramel, maple pecans, maple caramelized apples, whipped cream cheese and back bacon. This can easily be your new favourite. My mimosa was amazing, best mimosa I've honestly ever had. Americano wasn't really anything special, especially for $6. While it was a decent breakfast, I don't think I would order waffles again from here unless they change their recipe. I was also a little disappointed they didn't have more than 2 flavours of latte. I don't think I would return with the competition that's out there, but it wasn't bad.
