My Wife's Favorite sushi spot why not take her for Valentines . Great food that's not the issue. Called days in advance and they don't take reservations for 2. Get their @ 730pm on Valentines and 2 hr wait. Waited 30 min and still no movement. Bad for businesses when you don't take reservations on Valentines and cause customers to go elsewhere all due to greed! All you're saying is you don't care about customers . It's about quality not quantity and that is where you failed tonight. Now it's 8pm and restaurants that do take reservations are full. Looks like it's a fast food Valentines. Btw drove from Fairfield . Would like to know how management feels about this review. My first time trying Mikuni in Davis! Ambiance was good, a lot of tables, and parking was great. We walked in, didn't need a reservation, took us to our table. You have the option of looking at the menu digital, or a real menu. (I prefer the real menu). We ordered from the Negiri menu- Saba, and Scallops. The Rolls- DMC roll (our fav- the Lobster roll- it had Tempura lobster, avocado, crab mix, white tuna, soy wrap, with a sauce, torched, and tempura bits sprinkled all over). We ordered two orders of this! So good! James Dean roll- Crab mix, Panko Shrimp, Eel, Scallop, avocado, sauce, masago, green onion. Soft shell crab spider roll- Also a good one. Highly recommend these rolls- our waiter also recommended the lunch specials (they're till 4pm-7days a week), and there's Happy Hour- but it's Monday-Friday only 2-5pm Dine in only- some of the rolls prices range from $5-$11 only! I invited my lab here for a final meal and goodbye gathering before I leave Davis. On their website it says they don't offer reservations, but I called and was able to make a reservation for 11, and my party actually ended up being 12! The service was rapid and solicitous! The appetizers came out quite quickly, but the actual main course was a lot slower to come out, which is reasonable since we had 12 orders. Came here on a Thursday night to meet up with a college friend who I hadn't seen since 2020. It was a busy night. Holy cow. It's Thursday night! The food is pretty pricey here. You can definitely understand why when you walk in. It's a little up-scale than a normal Japanese restaurant. I got Tonkatsu with rice. Man I got 2 big ones and they are all the same size as my face lol. It's decent, not dry. Is it authentic? I'm not so sure about that, but I do think you'll find more authentic dishes in a more Japanese looking restaurant. This one is just not. Be prepared to spend quite a bit of money if you decide to come here. On average you'll probably spend over $20-30, but considered it's in Davis where there are not very many options, it's good enough :) read more

Whenever I'm in Davis visiting my sister, we would come here for dinner because we love sushi! Haha.. It's a bit pricey, but it's alright. The decor is modern and interesting. The staff are attentive and friendly. We've been there about a handful of times so far. Here's the list of things we've tried so far: Freaky Edamame - yummy! Karaage - pretty delish, but I wish there was some kind of dipping sauce Musolino Pasta - Must have! So delicious, and it's our fave out of everything! DMC Roll - yummy, kind of spicy Japanese Mafia Roll - yummy too Hang Loose Roll - yummy also Train Wreck Roll - yum, I think I can't really remember this one as much as I had it during our very first visit. Lol The restrooms our well kept which is a plus. There's plentiful of parking. The last time we were there, they said that it would be like a 35-45min wait, but I ended up getting the text at like 25mins which is awesome. Sooner is always better! Haha my sister and I killed time by walking around downtown Davis which was good because got some walks in and got to look around. My only gripe is that they have this outdoor seating, but if you bring a dog.. the dog must be kept outside of the outdoor seating area, which is not cool. So the very first time we went there, I ordered take out since I called to ask about what's their policy with dogs. We ended up having the sushi takeout at the park nearby. Then the second time we were there, my dad stayed in the car with our dog since he had eaten prior while my mom, sis, and I dine at Mikuni. Been here a few times now and it's definitely one of the better spots around; especially if you're looking to get sushi. They have other menu items too, like bento boxes, but have yet to try. Had the chirashi a couple times (about $30)...very fresh, and very good. I typically don't pay that much for chirashi if I can avoid it, but I don't mind it so much here. I've also had the karaage and edamame; decent and good to share with the table, the portions for the entrees are decently sized, so you don't wanna fill up on pre-dinner food...well at least I don't. Ooooh, had the Yuzu margarita...I don't typically do margaritas either...I'm actually more of a whiskey and beer (not together) person, but I DO do (=p) anything yuzu flavored. It was damn good, and i definitely paid a premium for it. It's more or less a bar/restaurant, so you're getting what you pay for. It tastes more delicious than it looks :) The few times I've been, it's been for dinner. I know they have lunch specials, which are seemingly half of what you would expect to pay for dinner. Happy hour from 2-5 so if you can make a super late lunch or super early dinner, then by all means go for the discount! Place can get crowded; so might be better to come towards the latter part of happy hour even if you wanna have dinner at a decent time. Service - very friendly and were good with suggestions for our business group; esp the folks that didn't wanna do the raw stuff. Parking - parking lot is shared with the other spots, but you can find close street parking. It can get crowded imagine when the hustle and bustle is high prob during weekends and stuff. Mikuni is a solid brand and is always consistent. This location was no different. Good service and good food. It can get pretty busy but you put your name down and they will text you when your table is ready. Downtown Davis is steps away so you can go exploring while if there is a wait. read more

I enjoyed all the food. I ordered the Karaage, green salad and iron chef sushi combo. It was all good. The problem is that I requested the chicken first, then the green salad then the sushi. They brought all of the food at once. I was sitting at the sushi bar and it was kind of ridiculous. I'm not sure why it was so difficult to sequence the food as requested. read more

I have been here several times and I want to say this establishment always delivers. They have multiple locations which is great I usually go to the one in Arden because of the parking. I'm always pleased with their service and the quality of sushi rolls. But my absolute favorite reason why I love this place other than their sushi would have to be for a drink called lychee martini. They serve the drink with some sort of plant. The purpose is to bite into the plant (which numbs your tongue) then you have the drink. I cant explain how refreshing the drink taste is something to experience. If you find yourself here and feel adventurous I recommend to order the drink it will not disappoint. read more

I stopped by this restaurant coincidentally a couple of days ago, on a late Thursday afternoon.The restaurant is modern, clean, and spacious, with a friendly and professional team. The service was attentive but not overbearing, which made me feel comfortable and well taken care of. I ordered two hand rolls--one with lobster, the other with eel. Both were delicious but a bit pricey at over $11 each, especially because the presentation was extremely simple: just the rolls on a plate - that's it! That said, the great atmosphere and service made up for it. I chose to see it as a "less is more" approach. Overall, I'd definitely recommend this spot! I had to hold in and wait for them to find my order for 10 minutes(this was after 30+ minutes of waiting time) and finally when they found it, they had one roll wrong in it which I found out later when I reached home. Went for my birthday and loved the Sake Aburi Salmon. I could order unlimited plates of that if i'm being honest lol. The ambiance is modern, super cute for date night or a night out with the girls. Service was also great, they made sure we were well taken care of and reminded us the time they were taking last calls. But let's get to the REAL experience. They have a wheel that you can spin if u dine in two days, the day of or two days after your birthday so i gave that a spin. You also have to show your ID (for proof of your birthday of course) at the time i didn't carry my wallet with me so the manager at the time told me i don't have to worry about it unless i spin exactly on the $100 gift card....and what did i do? i won the $100 gift card!! read more

This review will be very similar to my review of Mikuni's in Fair Oaks. Mikuni's is one of the best sushi restaurants I've ever been to. No matter the location, they always have the highest quality ingredients I've ever seen at a sushi restaurant. No matter how simple or complicated my order is, all of the food melts in your mouth with stunning flavors. Mikuni is one of the most expensive sushi restaurants in Sacramento, but for good reason. I've been to nearly 50 different sushi restaurants and Mikuni stays in the #1 spot for highest quality. It isn't a place I quickly will stop for food at, but more so for special occasions. I typically order a roll with eel/unagi from the menu, and I'll have the chef surprise me with another that has unagi in it, then I'll get a 3rd roll of something on the menu without unagi. The chef special surprise is always such a treat, I get it every place I go because they seem to have fun making some really crazy rolls, and they always turn out amazing in flavor. Fair Oaks is my favorite location. It's the original Mikuni's and is right down the street from my house. It feels very humbled when compared to the one in Sacramento's midtown which is very pretentious feeling. I recently had the opportunity to try the Davis location and it has become my 2nd favorite location. The staff here is so friendly, and each time I've gotten a chef special they've come out with something so incredibly crazy and delicious. The picture I'm attaching is of the surprise unagi chef special they made. The waitress said they had a lot of fun making mine which is the main reason I do a chef special in the first place. If you have never heard of Mikuni's then I highly recommend you go check them out. During my visit in Davis, my good friend decided to take me to this sushi spot. We made it before the lunch rush and wow did it get busy. They have a huge selection of sushi rolls and other items to pick from, kind of overwhelming at first but it's nice to have variety. The rolls that we ordered were all exceptional and had a good fish to rice ratio. We order the Kaiser roll, Marilyn Monroll, and my favorite the Tommy Roll. The $25 price tag seemed a bit steep at first but it was worth it since it was jam packed with flavor and I enjoyed it. It's not often I get sushi anyway so I treated myself. Fun & tasty rolls! I had the Marilyn Monroll and the DMC (named after a basketball player, not old school hip-hop). Both were excellent, but the DMC was surprisingly delicious. Smoky, rich, crunchy, big, savory and pink skinned?!? Pricey, but Wow! The Marilyn was more slender and sophisticated, smooth and silky. My daughter had two other rolls, both fresh, one a little spicy and the UC Davis a bit more traditional, like a super California roll. I can be a sushi snob, but let's be real: Americans enjoy creative rolls like these, stuffed with lots of great ingredients. This may be the first time in years we had a few pieces left over, because most of the rolls were real mouthfuls. Worth it! read more

So many things to love about this place! Went to visit on a very busy Thursday night. All of the tables were full, but we were able to secure seating outdoors (ambiance is lovely outside). Service was good, staff were friendly, quick and attentive. Food was 10/10. Super delicious and fresh! We also got appetizers (not pictured) and the portions were great for those (shareable). Additionally we had the Lava cake for dessert and it was so yum! Also, very easy parking situation (which was a plus since it's a heavy trafficked and busy area.) We went there when we were visiting a friend in UC Davis. It's very close to the campus. We went there on a Friday night and the place is open till 10. The wait time was 1 hour! Coming to the food part. We're vegetarians and we've heard that they have vegetarians sushi available as well but little did we know that half of the items in the vegetarian section either has fish oil or is prepared using items which are not considered vegetarian. So we were left with only two options. Avocado cucumber sushi and one customised version of Vegi ten roll which tasted very similar to Avocado cucumber roll. Not your typical Cali-Roll here baby! These guys have some very cool rolls, they're larger than most and a bit pricier too, but overall, I enjoyed my dining experience. Service-our server was very good, friendly, and made good recommendations. Decor-your typical sushi feel and decor, their kitchen and bar were pretty big, but nothing really special. Outdoor area looked cool, but since it was raining, we stayed inside. Food-different rolls with unique flavors and ingredients. I've never had a sushi roll with walnuts, and I had two here. Their DMC was my favorite. It had a good amount of lobster and had a very good sauce as well. None of the rolls we tried were typical, so I appreciated their ingenuity in flavors. read more

I really only come here for special occasions. This place is well worth the price, great quality fish, hence the higher price. Special occasions include birthdays, celebrations, good-byes, and hosting faculty. When I've hosted out-of-town faculty for seminar talks, I've suggested mikunis and they are always super impressed by the quality of the food (even the NYC faculty). You don't really expect fresh fish in the central valley, but Mikuni brings it! Everything is fresh and delicious, the ambiance is nice, and the service is great. They've since moved next door into the old GAP storefront. Mikuni has outlasted all other businesses in this little plaza, including the grocery giant Whole Foods. I've had a variety of dishes here. The iron chef combo, chirashi, edamame (freaky and non-freaky), gyoza, etc, etc. Everything I've had has tasted great. Due to COVID, I haven't dined in anywhere. It looks like they've opened indoor and outdoor dining (per the county's regulations). I got my order to go, and it was ready in 10 minutes during the lunch rush! I called in my order and they texted me a status update. This time, I got the tried and true iron chef combo. It came with five pieces of nigiri and an iron chef roll. Would definitely recommend! Also, I got to spin the birthday wheel. You can spin it two days before and two days after your birthday. My husband and I took our daughter, son, and future daughter-in-law out to lunch to celebrate their recent engagement. My husband knows the owner, so it was a no-brainer to come here for lunch to support his friend as well. So... even though his friend wasn't there, the service and food were excellent. One person in the group of five has an egg allergy, while another one is a vegan, and yet a third person has an allergy to shellfish.
