I was visiting from CA taking care of my friends three daughters. It was a bit of a drive from where we live but the reviews made it too good to pass up. We got there around 8 o'clock and I didn't have any hopes of having an apple fritter since I read you had to get there really early in the morning. However they did have some and they were delicious. The donuts were delicious and still warm. One of the girls got the last donut with sprinkles and her sister was so sad because that was the one she wanted. The lady who helped us was the friendliest person and offered to make one just for her. What great customer service. I noticed they had a group of regulars sitting at the counter. Mike's Old Fashioned are great donuts. Very good selection. I recently began coming here and have liked it every time. The first time I came, it was close to closing and they gave me 2 for 1. That scored some big points. I have come a couple more times after that and always enjoyed the donuts. One thing to note: certain donuts come out at certain times. I forgot to take a picture of the schedule, otherwise I would add it as a photo. The next time I go I will get a picture and add it. From what I remember, bars and cake donuts are in the morning, Persians around 8:45, and other donuts following. Persians I remember because that is what I wanted but I was too early. Grr. But I will be coming back! NOTE: they had a specialty donut one of the times that I was there. Called a French Kruller. The simplicity of this place is what brings me back. I am all about supporting small businesses, and a sucker for a good donut. The outside is a little deceiving because when you drive by here on Sprague, it just says Donuts above, and it's attached to a gas station, so it makes it look like this is just a gas station that has donuts available inside. But this is it's own separate store with an amazing production going on inside. Every time I've been here, 3 or more people are constantly cranking out fresh batches of donuts to keep the case stocked. And they go quickly, so come in the morning! The donuts are priced pretty well too, around $1 per donut. And there's nothing frozen or artificial about it. These donuts are great! We stopped here on Friday, and picked up a couple of donuts, they were out of fritters when we got there. The star donut is they maple bacon bar, it's massive, and the flavors hit all the right notes. We also got a glazed donut, and 2 crullers, one with chocolate, and one glazed, but we haven't tried them yet. I called and spoke with someone from the Spokane Valley store, and she gave some good advice, if you fritters, as they are one of the most popular, stop in and place an order for the next day, so we did so. We went in and ordered 3 apple fritters, 2 cherry, and 1 blueberry. Today 8/16, we picked them up. We just tried an apple fritter, it was good, definitely a 3.5/5. After heading great things about Mike's donuts, we finally decided to try it out and were not disappointed! I knew beforehand that the fritters go quick, so I showed up when they opened at 6AM. Unfortunately they didn't have any made yet, and only had a small selection of donuts around this time. The staff politely told me about the various times donuts are made (posted a picture of the times to Yelp) and told me that Apple Fritters are made around 8AM. Once I came back at 8AM, the case was filled with different donuts and a fresh tray of the Fritters. If you decide to try this place out, I suggest going around 8AM to get a wide range of different donuts! The donuts were fresh and delicious, and my dad and I both agreed that these Apple Fritters were the best we ever had. Wow! That's about all I can say. I have driven by many times and I just thought the donuts sign meant the Hico station sold donuts. I didn't realize it was an awesome donut shop until I did some searching. Fresh, awesome donuts is what you will find here. All unique and not just the same donut layered in different toppings. There are specials each day. Some are only made a few times a month. Donuts are not greasy, nor are they sickly sweet. Service is awesome. They asked if I was going to get any maple bars so they knew what size box to use. They don't stack donuts here. You won't find all the different varieties in the case at once since they are made fresh. There is a schedule of when they are made. I need to come back when the apple fritters are being made as I hear they are fantastic. There were plenty of regulars in the store at 6:30. Many seemed to know Mike personally. Prices are very reasonable as well. I think I paid $15 for a 20oz coffee and 13 donuts. (Yea. I had to get an extra donut for myself) Truly awesome. I have finally found the perfect spot for my occasional donut fix. Just wish I had found it sooner! read more

The ONLY ones I will buy on cheat day from now on! My hubby and I got a maple bacon bar filled with Bavarian cream as a special request and ate them in the car. Five minutes later, we went back in and got another special request of a Bavarian cream filled bar for my hubby and a blueberry filled bar with powdered sugar for me. The doughnuts have a light crisp on the outside, and are fluffy and soft on the inside. The fillings and frostings aren't so sweet you feel like your teeth are going to fall out. I honestly love Mike's Old Fashioned Donuts! The apple fritters are the best I have had, and usually are still warm. Sweet on the outside and cinnamon and real apples throughout. The maple bars are another must for me. It's not a frilly shop, and feels like the real deal when it comes to the old school donut vibe. We have a lot of experience when it comes to donuts, being from Los Angeles originally- these remind me of back home. And the slightly secret spot where they are located makes it feel super legit. I try to bring donuts in to the office when I visit our Spokane office. I wasn't thrilled with the choice of the last donut shop I went to the last time I was in Spokane, so I decided on Mike's this time. I'm glad I did, the donuts are so much better, so is the selection. Though apple fritters were not out yet, I'm guessing they're pretty good, since they have a schedule posted on when certain donuts are ready, and people were in line 30 minutes before they were ready. And there is a sign posted that you can only order 6 apple fritters at a time, unless you special order. I wished they weren't ready so late in the morning. However, if the donuts I got are any indication how good the apple fritters are...maybe I'll wait until 8am to get an apple fritter the next time I'm in Spokane.
