I decided to take my son there this morning knowing he would be so excited. we showed up and it seemed there was only one worker on with a group of 8 ahead of us. the server said she would be right with us, No problem i said we can wait. she then came back and said let me catch up and this order then I can help you. so I decided to take my 5 year old son to sit down and read him a book while we waited. during this time new customers walked in and had cut us in line. I have been coming here for a few years. My family likes the donuts for a treat. Lately, it has been terrible service and quality. I came in a week ago at 4:40 when they close at 5. I was told they are sold out of donuts for the day. This was frustrating for me and kids but I get it.. I tried the Harry Potter mini-donut series a while back. It was 12 different flavored mini donuts, such as Unicorn Blood, Nagini, Butterbeer, and the four different houses. It cost $10.25. Definitely, quantity-wise, the price is not justified. However, if just to try the flavors, I think it is reasonable. I really liked how they described all of the donuts on their screen. It gave you something to expect because the physical box of donuts doesn't have any descriptions. Besides the Harry Potter Donuts, they also had a more classic mini-donut series that included lilac lavender, s'mores, sugar maple, and cranberry spiced pear. It was the same price. I did not get it but it seemed delicious as well. Service was quite fast. Taste-wise, it was very hit-or-miss. The ones with the houses (Gryffindor. Hufflepuff Ravenclaw, Slytherin) were all sour which complemented the sweetness of donuts, kind of like sour patch kids. The donuts itself or more of that cakey kind instead of the fluffy kind which helped hold donuts that had a lot of toppings, like the chocolate frog. The packaging and the placement of each donut seemed very intentional as well which I loved. For example, the houses were all put together and no two of the same colors were next to each other, making it look randomly placed. For the shop itself, there was some seating inside. I personally am a huge fan of donuts and so I had to take a chance to come try Hello Sugar. After all, they were selling mini donuts! I've only ever had mini donuts from the store, or ones I've made in my oven. But from an actual donut shop? Never. First impressions, It's a very cute little spot and If I were a local then I could definitely see myself bringing my laptop and studying here. The staff is very friendly, and they even serve coffee! An extra bonus, there are lots of cute stickers by the front counter that are available for purchase as well. We ordered the carousel variety which consisted of 1 of each of the 12 different flavors. It's extremely hard to elevate a donut and make it stand out from the competition, so imagine my surprise when the actual flavors were nothing like what I was used to. They're all so carefully crafted and made with such a good level of flavor complexity and cohesiveness. The flavors were strong yes meshed so nicely. Whoever created the recipes for these knows what they are doing. Plus the fact it was only 10$ for a dozen of these was even better. I've fallen in love with Hello Sugar and am very eager to come back here whenever I'm up in Spokane. I decided since I have never been there I decided to try their carousel. All of the donuts are made fresh to order. Which is a really nice touch because they are hot and fresh when you get them. Plus the smell of fresh hot donuts is really hard to resist. The donuts themselves are light and fluffy and well flavored. Not greasy or overpowered with flavoring. The lavender one was really good, it was light with a hint of floral and of course sugar. This is just a really cool little place. The donuts are really good and the service is awesome. It does take a little bit once you order them to receive the donuts, but they are made to order so it makes sense. Stopped here on our morning walk the other day, and bought a dozen of their mini donuts-- we didn't try coffees or any of their other foods. We each ate 3 donuts, and were satisfied enough for breakfast. We sat on the patio, but it was incredibly busy, so we had to wait over 30 minutes for our order. I didn't get a chance to go inside for long, but it seemed clean, and the patio was very nice. I think they need more seating outside, especially with the summer months approaching, people had to move chairs from inside. The donut selection was nice, but I feel like it's really if you are into mini donuts, or the novelty of them.
