Still Love the Donuts, But the Birthday Reward Experience Has Been Disappointing (Second Year in a Row) This is my second review--and more specifically, the second time I've had an issue with Hello Sugar's birthday coupon. Let me be clear: I absolutely love Hello Sugar. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Their donuts are amazing, GLUTEN FREE the shop is adorable, and I've been a loyal customer for three years.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I truly have a passion for this place. That's why it's hard to even write this, but I feel like I need to be honest about my experience. The first year I got the birthday coupon, it was great--no problems. But last year and now again this year, things just didn't sit right. This year, my birthday fell on a Wednesday. I was busy all day and couldn't make it in, but I was really excited to stop by the next day and use my birthday coupon. I'd even told my friends about it and planned to share the donuts with them. When I got to the counter, I mentioned I was there for the birthday coupon, showed the code, and was told it had already expired--on my actual birthday, June 18th That was shocking. Most places give you a few days after--or even a full month--to use a birthday reward. I wasn't asking for something unreasonable. I just missed it by one day due to a busy weekday, and I genuinely didn't even know it expired on the birthday itself. What made it worse was the way it was handled: no "happy birthday," no kindness, no flexibility--just a flat, "It's expired." It really put a damper on something that was supposed to feel special. And to be honest, this is the second year in a row that I've walked away from a birthday visit here feeling disappointed and a little embarrassed. Any time I come in with a coupon or reward, it feels like I'm being treated differently--like I'm doing something wrong by trying to redeem what they offered me. I'm not asking for free stuff all the time--I happily support Hello Sugar all year long. But if you're going to offer birthday rewards, they should feel celebratory, not frustrating or awkward. And a little grace and kindness can go a long way in those moments. I still love their donuts, and I want to keep coming back. But honestly, this experience left a bad taste in my mouth--and not because of the donuts.

Came here before our flight and got a box of 12 with 4 flavors - coconut, beer butter, strawberry jam, and smore. I wasn't too fond of the butterbeer. It sort of tasted like nail polish. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Overall, the donuts were fresh, atmosphere was inviting, workers were helpful, and service was fast.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

    Burned cocollala

I have been coming here for a few years. My family likes the donuts for a treat. Lately, it has been terrible service and quality. I came in a week ago at 4:40 when they close at 5. I was told they are sold out of donuts for the day. This was frustrating for me and kids but I get it.. She proceeded to continue and say we stop making early them and we close in 20 minutes rudely and unapologetically. I promised the kids donuts so we came back again but I ordered ahead online. They had to have been a few hours old and the cocollala were inedible. The coconut was so burned it ruined the donut. Sad that my second attempt to support this small business wasnt good either. For a dollar for a small donut, I expect the quality to be better and service not to be rude. I will not be coming back.

    glittery donuts

Stumbled upon this cute spot across from the Olmstead Park playground. Lots of donut flavors, and lots of donut rules: You have to buy a dozen and that dozen must be comprised of 3 each of 4 flavors. Service was slow (at 3:30 on a Thursday) as there was only one employee making coffees and cooking the donuts! It took about 20 minutes to get our order and the shop was pretty much empty. We ordered Chocolate, strawberry shortcake, cookie butter, and cinnamon sugar. They were DELICIOUS!!! Coffee drinks/tea, etc come with a bonus donut hole :) [[HIGHLIGHT]]Spacious patio was a quiet spot to enjoy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

    Harry Potter menu (special occasion)

I tried the Harry Potter mini-donut series a while back. It was 12 different flavored mini donuts, such as Unicorn Blood, Nagini, Butterbeer, and the four different houses. It cost $10.25. Definitely, quantity-wise, the price is not justified. However, if just to try the flavors, I think it is reasonable. I really liked how they described all of the donuts on their screen. It gave you something to expect because the physical box of donuts doesn't have any descriptions. Besides the Harry Potter Donuts, they also had a more classic mini-donut series that included lilac lavender, s'mores, sugar maple, and cranberry spiced pear. It was the same price. I did not get it but it seemed delicious as well. Service was quite fast. Taste-wise, it was very hit-or-miss. The ones with the houses (Gryffindor. Hufflepuff Ravenclaw, Slytherin) were all sour which complemented the sweetness of donuts, kind of like sour patch kids. The donuts itself or more of that cakey kind instead of the fluffy kind which helped hold donuts that had a lot of toppings, like the chocolate frog. The packaging and the placement of each donut seemed very intentional as well which I loved. For example, the houses were all put together and no two of the same colors were next to each other, making it look randomly placed. For the shop itself, there was some seating inside. However, it was super busy when I went so I decided to just eat my car. They have a little free parking lot next door or street parking if needed.

    Dozen package.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Super cute donut spot with baby donuts![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Lots of flavors and great service. Even my big group of guys was impressed and loved them.

    Donuts

Delicious donuts, young staff lacks customer service skills. Old school I know, long for the days of customer service not just bodies taking my money & handing me objects. Donuts+, coffee will skip next time. Mocha did not taste like coffee or mocha. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Paper towel dispenser was broken and did not notice until after washing my hands. Alerted staff upon my departure and they replied with "yes we know, the battery is dead" in towel dispenser. I mentioned there was no sign on it.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Always disappointing having to dry your hands on your pants.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

The coffee is surprisingly strong here and it comes with a mini donut! Super cute. The donuts come out hot, which is super nice to have them fresh. They have a good variety of flavors. The donuts are mini and bite size. Plenty of parking. I would definitely suggest checking this place out!

The dining room was almost empty when I walked in, and no one greeted me. They were playing some Kanye west music behind the counter so I thought there'd be some livelihood but... there wasn't. One of the younger employees who took my order was fine but you could tell he didn't want to be there and the person at the register seemed like they didn't really want to be there either. They weren't outright rude, but the interaction definitely wasn't welcoming and both of them mumbled and spoke so low, I had to ask them both multiple times what they were saying. I ordered two donuts and a cup of coffee, which came to $7.35. For what was a Keurig coffee with basic shelf-stable creamer, it felt overpriced. On the positive side, the donuts were good. You can tell they're handmade, and they had a nice taste. They were definitely the highlight of the visit. Maybe my expectations were too high because of all the recommendations I'd heard, but I expected a Saturday morning at such a well-known donut shop to have more energy and atmosphere. Instead, it felt surprisingly underwhelming and lacked the welcoming vibe I was hoping for. Overall, the donuts were solid, but nothing about the experience made me eager to come back. I don't regret trying it, but I also don't really understand the hype.

The custard filled donuts tasted like they were made in old oil and were not filled all the way. All of the old fashioned were under cooked with raw dough in the middle of the donut. The apple fritters were also under cooked in the middle, the edges were good but the middle was gross. We were told that their best baker had made the donuts which is unfortunate because they must have been having a really bad night. Would not recommend unfortunately.

Unfortunately, the experience was just as bad if not worse. The employee helping customers was clearly unhappy to be there and was openly rude to the people in front of us. When it was our turn, he treated us the same way. Many of the product tags were incorrect, which caused confusion while ordering. Each time we asked for clarification, he rolled his eyes or responded with obvious annoyance. When we politely mentioned that the labels were wrong, he simply stared at us and said, "What else?" I work in customer service myself, so I understand that tough days happen but this level of attitude was shocking. To make matters worse, after ringing us up he picked/scratched his nose and immediately began helping the next customer without washing his hands. Customer service may not be the right fit for him. Sadly, this visit confirmed why we stopped coming in the first place. (Tall, brown hair in a ponytail).
