I had high hopes for this new boutique donut shop based on other reviews, the emphasis on natural ingredients, and the handcrafted approach. This locally owned shop on Sherman in downtown Coeur d'Alene has a very minimalist concept: a small storefront, a limited selection of donuts and coffee on display, and no seating. The proprietor was friendly, informative, and clearly passionate about the product. The donuts come with the premium pricing one would expect from a small artisan bakery, but unfortunately they did not live up to expectations. The flavours themselves were good, but the donuts were noticeably drier than expected even when fresh, and by the next day they were virtually inedible despite being stored properly. Usually small artisan shops justify the higher price point with a clearly superior product and experience. Unfortunately, Lantern Donuts did not quite achieve that for me and, regrettably, I found the mass-produced chain-store donuts more enjoyable overall. On a personal "worth it" scale, I'd place it around a 3/10. Regrettably, not somewhere I would return to. read more

Super-friendly service and person behind the counter fully explained their process with both the coffee and the donuts Eveything looked amazing and even got to try a couple of small samples. Finally settled on the Huckleberry donut and damn it's divine! Not overly sweet and very well balanced. Very chefy, but in the best way possible and NO SEED oils and using all natural ingredients. It's not cheap, however, it's definitely worth a visit if you are ever in CDA!! The coffee is awesome as well! read more

The donuts were good. Like $7 each good. HOWEVER there are no prices posted and it was $65 for FIVE donuts. The whole place is under construction so if you want to enjoy your shockingly expensive donut you get to sit outside. For me the price gouging ruined the whole thing. read more

This little shop is an absolute downtown gem with delicious donuts, phenomenal in-house roasted coffee, and friendly staff, it's well worth it to stop in! Their seasonal flavors and rotating chef's specials are out of this world, with the top-tier ingredients and expert flavor pairings shining through in every bite. Of course the donuts look and taste too good to try just one, so I had to get a few to experience all that Lantern has to offer! The donuts were a premium price which would have been fine if they were edible. The chocolate raspberry looked decadent, however upon biting into it the taste of baking ingredients, salt, baking soda and powder, was the first taste, then the muted chocolate flavor which hardly tasted like chocolate. I threw it away after having others taste it to determine if it was the donut or me. It was the donut. Next was the Carmel cake, equally as disatisfying and discarded. I haven't tasted the strawberry white cake yet but I'm not expecting anything worthy of eating. It's funny because I saw a teenager with her family form a sour look on her face after tasting one of her mother's donut picks. Each donut is so creative, and hand made with care. These are small batch donuts, so you need to get in early to snag them, or pre-order online. The coffee is great too. Right now they only roast single origin coffees in house, which really brings out the unique flavors in each coffee. I've had the Ethiopian Guji and it was delicious. Walked into the shop where we were met by the friendly staff at the front who shared with us the menu for the week. The Cold Joe donut was in high demand even at 9am but was able to snag one, while we also picked up a Delicata Delight. The Cold Joe was fantastic with the cocoa meringue and cold brew glaze. Can honestly say I've never had anything like it and would 100% get it again. The Delicata Delight was a unique blend of flavors that paired perfectly together. We were in Coeur d'Alene for a wedding and got several boxes of these high end donuts to share with the wedding party. Everyone loved them! They were easily the best donuts I've ever had!! The flavors were amazing ...everyone cut them into fourths so we could all try the different flavors. I got home from the trip wishing we still had some (and wishing Coeur d'Alene wasn't so far away.) We also bought a few bags of the coffee sold at this shop which was truly exceptional!!
