Went here to watch the game last night and even though the game was bad the brewery was wonderful. Ordered the Vietnamese coffee stout and it had strong coffee notes but was not as bitter and went down smooth. Saw people come in with outside food. Workers were nice and friendly. Conveniently located at The Orchards, I stopped by here on a weekday around 1pm. Nice cold beers, perfect weather. I don't recall who helped us, but she was friendly and allowed me to get a few tasters to see what I liked. Wanted to wait until another visit here on a busier night would be before writing a review. I'm a Huge fan of this spot! Their outdoor patio is super cozy and plenty of room and shade for our fur kids. I'm pretty impressed with their tap rotation (both times I've gone I got a flight to try different beers). I think it's so cool they gift you with a souvenir cup when you turn your poker chip back in My favorites so far are the Mexican lager and the pineapple cider. So yummy and refreshing! Love that this tasting room is next to a handful of restaurants too so you can grab food to go and bring it here while enjoying your beer. I plan on coming here regularly! "Consistently Good Experience. Kudos to Woody and Andrew." I often come here after a run on Saturday. First, I get food from Jack's Urban eats, which they deliver right to the tap room. Then I settle down for a nice light beer. Hess has a good selection of beers and I usually get the Kolsch. But the thing that really makes this tap room are the bartenders, Woody and Andrew. Consistently friendly and helpful. They recently expanded the outdoor seating area. It's large now, with tons of picnic tables, high tables, stools, and a big screen TV. Well done! I always drive by Mike Hess Brewing company and my husband and I finally decided to go in. It was a Friday afternoon so it was busy but the patio and indoor area is spacious so we were able to find good seats outside. You walk up to the counter to order your drinks. I ordered the sangria seltzer and of course my husband had a beer (can't remember which one but he really enjoyed it). I was pleasantly surprised by the sangria seltzer. I really enjoyed it. They do not serve food but a few of the nearby restaurants will deliver food if you call your order in and pay with a credit card over the phone. I decided to order food online at the Mexican restaurant next door and quickly picked it up and brought it back. It was a perfect pair with our drinks. I really love that they are dog friendly and there quite a few babies and toddlers as well. It is a fun atmosphere on a warm day. I am looking forward to coming back in the near future. We've had their beer down in San Diego and so it's so cool that they have a nice beer garden and beer shop right here in Walnut Creek! The staff were super friendly and helpful, there was quite a bit of seating inside (with nice A/C) and outside (with heat lamps...not needed today!). We both got flights on Friyay which were 5 4oz pours plus a free glass that we can bring back to get discounted pours. Most of their IPAs were only OK, but they had a couple tasty ones. All their non-IPA styles (brown, kolsh, pineapple cider, honey blonde, Mexican lager) we tried were great! Definitely gonna make this one of my regular hangouts!! read more

The setting is comfortable and beautiful, complete with indoor and outdoor seating options. The tree-covered patio is tough to beat! Kids, dogs, and outside food are all welcome. I enjoy the weekly community events like Taco Tuesday, Trivia Wednesday, etc. Variety - My husband loves IPAs and I love sours and ciders. Thankfully, they have both and more! Great hangout spot that I finally got a chance to try. Ample outdoor seating and it seems to get pretty full, even on a weekday eve. There are heaters sprinkled throughout, one tv, and lighting is good even after sunset. Beer selection is good. Not sure if it's limited during COVID or what the rotation looks like, but it seemed there could be something for everyone. I'm glad they had a West Coast IPA on tap for me. I'm not huge on Hazy. Only reason for 4 stars: While the staff was diligently wearing masks, they were unable to enforce the same of patrons. I watched one woman walk from her table to the bathroom inside without her mask, and no employee stopped her. They also served people who weren't wearing their masks properly. So if this is a concern for you, abstain from coming here until you're comfortable. Moreover, lots of people were commingling at other tables (not shocking at a beer bar/garden but everyone should still be cautious during COVID) and entering through the exit door and vice versa. Seems pointless to mark doors as enter and exit only when they don't enforce it. TL;DR this is a nice place to grab a beer and I recommend giving it a try. But if you're being extra cautious, do not come until it's safer. read more

Totally digging this spot! Mike Hess has become the local watering hole within the Orchards. This is the kick it spot for many of the locals in this part of town. Really chill vibes, good beer, and they're surrounded by so many wonderful eateries. I feel like I'm forever building my beer palate. I know what I like, but I'm always trying new beers because I don't experiment enough with beer the same way that I do with wine. Often times, I find that many breweries around these parts tend to have a ton of IPA's on deck but not much of anything else. Welp, Mike Hess is the total opposite. Beer variety is on POINT! Normally you'd be able to actually sample the beer before deciding if it's something that you want, but they aren't doing this right now due to COVID (respectfully). However, you can still purchase a beer flight if you're coming here for the first time and wanting to get a nice sampling of what they offer. You can either create your own flight or have one of their beertender's tailor one for you based on your preferences. Of course, I left it up to my good folks at the bar to choose my flight and they did not disappoint. I pretty much enjoyed every single beer that was chosen for me, and that's honestly a rarity for me. If you do choose to do a sampler, they'll give you a free beer mug that you can bring back to refill for discounted beer whenever you're there. Many of the local eateries will deliver food right to your table. They have menus from all of the eateries in the shopping center there. You can also bring your own food in, but they do require you to purchase at least one food item from there during COVID (since one of the requirements of them being able to stay open is to also serve food). They had sandwiches and salads from Jack's Urban eats the day that I was there, and it was scrumptious. I love that they're also supporting their fellow restaurant neighbors. Besides the beer, their beautiful outside patio is also what makes this place thrive. It's just a nice place to relax with a beer outside on a warm day. This is a really cool spot to come with family or friends for a drink. They have both indoor and outdoor seating and plenty of it. We came on a Friday at about 5 pm, it did get pretty crowded. I'm sure because people are stopping in for a drink after work to get their weekend started. This spot does sit in a shopping center that has a ton of other businesses, they don't offer a food menu themselves but there are plenty of restaurants close by and you can bring in outside food to enjoy with your drink. I also saw on their menu that all the drinks they had on tap were gluten friendly. For those that don't enjoy beer they also had a few seltzer's and ciders as well as a craft root beer for non drinkers or the younger ones that may be joining you. On the covered patio outside they do have a TV that would be great for catching a game, and your furry friends are also welcome! Parking was a little though to find as this parking lot is shared with many other businesses. It was not impossible but there may be a little bit of a walk! read more

They had a decent range of beer options, we tried the Rising Hope with white peach flavor and proceeds benefitting kids with cancer, and the Manmosa, semi-hazy hybrid with orange. We thought both were really good, and even better while sitting in the dog-friendly outdoor patio enjoying live music with the Chronic Padres. They performed covers like Free Fallin' by Tom Petty and Poker Face by Lady Gaga, in their own unique style. There's a lot of space and seating both inside and outside, and the customer service is excellent, allowing outside food (since they don't serve any here), and extremely friendly, which just added to the inviting atmosphere all around. read more

There are also a number of different restaurants in this shopping center and you can bring takeout orders from these restaurants into the brewery. You can bring any food you want from outside as they don't offer anything other then pretzel type snacks . Service is a brewery , you go to the counter an order , no table service . Their outdoor dining area is super spacious with different sections and they offer a covered and heated area. And it's dog-friendly! It really is a great spot to kick back with some delicious beers under the Walnut Creek sun. On our most recent visit, we discovered that they have a special pitcher of the day for just $15! The fact that they even have pitchers is a pretty rare find for breweries around here. I love a good pitcher to share with a few friends. Service has always been attentive and efficient, and there's plenty of parking in the shared lot out front. read more

What a great find! I am not a beer aficionado, but friends wanted to go. Chris, the friendly and knowledgeable "beertender" saw my confusion at the wide-ranging (and neatly organized, if you know what the beer terms mean!) menu, asked what I normally would enjoy, and made a perfect choice for me. They are open on New Year's Day, which I know, because I went on New Year's Day! We arrived in the early afternoon and there were maybe a couple of other people there but by the time it was evening, the place was full. At the time, the state was chipping in to support the wildfire effort so I ordered that beer (proceeds from it went toward the cause). I liked it and appreciated it that they were helping out by having it. The high tables have seating so you don't have to stand. They don't have food but there is food nearby and you can even get on the house-provided phone and directly order the food to come to Mike Hess. Like this place every time. I'm not a regular but I feel welcome every time I've been in. Always a wide selection of beers and I've never had a bad one. I keep coming back to their Claritas Kölsch, and their IPAs play well too.
